Migrating from NCS 1.1.2 to Prime 1.2? Possible?

According to this:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/1.2/quickstart/guide/cpi_qsg.html#wp73107 it mentions that migrating from NCS 1.1.2 to CPI 1.2 isn't possible.
How can I get around this?

TAC has a patch to upgrade off of 1.1.2.12.
I don't recall but kinda' think it is to get to 1.3.0.20 and not to 1.2.1.12
Basically you take a backup from the 1.1.2.12 server then restore it into a newly build 1.3 server that has had the patch applied.
I've 3 or 4 and it works just fine...

  • Migrating from NCS 1.0 to Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    Hi friends
I know i had short discussion about this before but here it comes again and this time in detail.
I have NCS 1.0 with 100 devices support license installed. Now knowing it has reached end of sale, and also for the fact that Prime does cover devices like routers, i went ahead to the upgrade path via PUT (Product Upgrade Tool).
Finally I received an email (OBA) advising my order is ready. This email included two items in the shipment,
    L-N-PI12-100-M=
NCS 1.0 to Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Minor Upg 100 Device
    L-PILMS42-100-M
Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 - 100 Device Upgrade Lic
When i click to the link in the same email to download the license, it only shows me one file which is
    L-PILMS42-100-M
I tried using this file and installing on the NCS1.0 but it gives me error that this file is not a license file. The license name suggests me that it is not the license to be installed on the NCS. The file should be L-N-PI12-100-M=
Thanks for reading this all and would appreciate all your inputs here.
    Regards,
    Mohit

Marvin Rhoads wrote:Your PI 1.2 also includes the right to install and use LMS 4.2 - a separately installed and licensed server. If you want Assurance (or Compliance) licenses for PI, they will have to be ordered separately. The license files delivedred when you buy those product SKUs will allow you to use those features. The starting point (base) in PI 1.2 is Lifecycle.
when i followed the inpath upgrade,  i receved an email from the licensing that the license file is ready for download. the order said,
      Product Name          : L-PILMS42-100-M
         Product Description      : L-PILMS42-100-M : Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 - 100 Device Upgrade Lic
and the attached lic file "LMS2013021XXXXXXX.lic" came along from them.
but when i installed that lic file, i got the error message from the upgarded the PI 1.2 that the file is not a license file.
The trouble is i cannot generate another lic file (if the exsting generated file was corrupt) cos the PAK is already been used once.
Now i am wondering i can avail that LMS file that would be good, but when i spoke to the TAC, i was told that this file name doesnt seem correct as this is PI and it wont understand LMS file. It was only useful if you were upgraing from LMS to PI and because my case was NCS to PI, this will not work.
    Any suggestions?

  • Data length problem migrating from sql server 7 to oracle 8i

I just migrated SQL Server 7 database to Oracle 8i db and everything seemed to have ran ok except that in my newly created oracle database, the field size is doubled. For instance a field with nvarchar(4) in sql server would convert to varchar2(8). Has anyone ran into this problem and also does anyone know how to fix it? Thank you so much.

    Hi Roberto,
You cannot use Workbench 1.2.2 to migrate from SQL Server 7 to

However, the good news is that we have a new verion of the
workbench that will have a plugin that can migrate from SQL

A beta version will be downloadable from this web-site in approx

  • Migration from Documentum to OCM

    Hi
Anyone has some document or guide, can be overall document or especific, regarding migration from Documentum platform to OCM?
There is this possibility in a huge client.
    Best Regards

It's probably worth contacting Oracle Consulting and asking about the internal Content DB migration toolkit.
This toolkit is currently available only internally (due to support requirements) - and is driven by pushing data from source systems in to a documented schema/structure contained in the Oracle database.
We have a tool which in-turn will process the data found in the various tables of the schema, and will respond by creating the necessary objects in the Content DB instance.
    cheers
    Matt.

    Hello,
The latest update of ADMT supports AD 2012 (and R2), and I succeed the following migration with ADMT 3.2 :
    2003 -> 2008 R2
    then
    2008 R2 -> 2012 R2
I would like to know if the migration from an AD 2003 to AD 2012 R2 is possible in one step and if someone did that (that means without the 2008 R2 transition's step).

Here everything stops. I have waited for 5 hours now is this normal?

It looks like you may be able to restore the data as it says here but you may need to simply export the database, install PI and restore.

    Upgrading Cisco Prime Infrastructure
You can upgrade the following Cisco Prime Network Control System products to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2:
    •Cisco Prime Network Control System 1.0.0 (NCS 1.0 MR2, 1.0.2.29)
•Cisco Prime Network Control System 1.1.0 (NCS 1.1 FCS, 1.1.0.58)
    •Cisco Prime Network Control System 1.1.1 (NCS 1.1 K MR1, 1.1.1.24)
•Cisco Prime Network Control System (WAN) 1.1.0 and Cisco Prime Assurance Manager 1.1.0 (NCS-WAN/PA 1.1 FCS, 1.1.0.1114)
•Cisco Prime Network Control System (WAN) 1.1.1 and Cisco Prime Assurance Manager 1.1.1 (NCS-WAN/PA 1.1.1 MR1 FCS, 1.1.0.1116)
You can upgrade using either of the following methods:
    1. Standard—Upgrades your existing system to version 1.2. All existing data is retained and you will be using the same size OVA at the end. The existing product will not be operational until the upgrade is complete. This is the normal option for most users. For details, see Performing a Standard Upgrade.
    2. Migration—Allows you to back up the data from your existing system, install Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 as a new system, and restore the existing system's data to the new system. You can then decommission the old system. This option is preferred if you want to migrate to a larger OVA, cannot disturb your production system, or have a large network. For details, see Performing a Migration Upgrade.

  • Installing cisco prime on vmware & migrating from wcs

    Hi,
We have been tasked to install prime on a vmware box then migrate from wcs, i have never done this before & was wondering if anyone has any experience in doing this way, how easy is it & if you have any docs etc?

    Hi,
A  direct upgrade from a WCS release to Prime Infrastructure 1.2 is not  supported. You must first upgrade to an NCS 1.1 release, and then  upgrade to Prime Infrastructure 1.2.
    Please check the links below:

WCS to NCS or Prime Infrastructure?

  • Migration from WCS to NCS

    Hello,
I've valid SAU service contract with WCS. Can I migrate from WCS (7.0.230..0) to latest version of NCS by downloading it from software center or I should purchase some SKU for upgrading to NCS?
    Any help welcome.

you'll probably be able to download the software, but to 'migrate' you need to by the migration SKU from your partner.
This allows you to take your current license count and get it 'rehosted' for the NCS.

  • Blocking users after migrating from WCS to NCS?

One of our people in our Helpdesk  blocked a user mac because of an alert that said they were using the WiFi in an unsafe manner.  Probably streaming or file sharing.  Anyway when they blocked the mac they noticed that in the older WCS it would ask if you want to block this on all controllers.  The new NCS he said did not have that option that he could find.  So the user just authenticated with the same machine to a new controller which then had to be manually blocked.
I could not find in NCS the option to block the offending mac on all controllers either.  This does not mean it isn’t there?  Can we get a ruling on this? Bug? it worked in WCS.

We have NCS 1.1.0.58 and I believe when we block the Mac from NCS it only blocks if on the controller that it is currently associated to.

  • Can I migrate from WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2. If so, what are the guidelines for migration?

Can I migrate from WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2. If so, what are the guidelines for migration? Do we have any Instructions/steps?

Migration from WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2 can be  performed. If the customer wants to migrate data you need to first upgrade to  NCS 1.1.1  You can download NCS 1.1.1 from Cisco.com if you have a valid service  contract.
For the migration step involving NCS an evaluation license is  sufficient.  You can obtain an NCS evaluation license from http://www.cisco.com/go/license >  Get Demo > Network Mgmt Products > Cisco Prime NCS Evaluation License.
Instructions for migrating data from WCS 7.0 to NCS 1.1.1 are available in  NCS 1.1.1 Release Notes.  Do not upgrade to NCS 1.1.2 as this release is not  upgradeable to Prime Infrastructure 1.2.  If you are ordering a Cisco Prime  physical appliance (PRIME-NCS-APL-K9) be sure to select the NCS 1.1 image which  you can later upgrade to Prime Infrastructure 1.2 after you have migrated your  WCS data.

  • Migrating from a Mini w/ Tiger to a Mac Pro w/ Leopard

Tomorrow FedEx should be delivering a Mac Pro that I got a sweet deal on via the Apple Refurbished Macs store online. I want to migrate the apps I have installed on a Mac Mini onto the Mac Pro so that I don't have to reinstall them, and I wouldn't mind having all my preferences and settings show up on the new Pro as well.
I went by the Apple store in Green Hills and they gave me a primer on using the Migration Assistant to get stuff from one machine to the other. I have a question from my notes:
I've written down that "the Pro will ask if I want to migrate from another computer - select the Mini" (which I'll have connected via Firewired).
Then it is going to ask something like "Files" or "Home Folder" -- and I neglected to note which is the proper choice.
Anybody familiar enough with this routine to be able to tell me which choice I'm supposed to make at that juncture?
    Thanks,
    --PS

Is your Mini an Intel or PPC model? If the latter I'd recommend against using Migration Assistant. See the following:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (pre 4.0 does not work, 4.1 required for Leopard), TechTool Pro (pre-4.5.1 versions do not work, 4.6.1 required for Leopard), SuperDuper (newest release), and Drive Genius work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries. Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.
Additional links that will be helpful to new Intel-Mac users:

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode or copying the critical contents to CD and DVD or an external hard drive will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.
Basically the instructions you should follow are:
    1. Backup your data first. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    2. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    3. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    4. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
    4. Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (* This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.)
/Home/Library/Preferences/ copy any preferences needed for third-party applications
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
Credit goes to another forum user for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.
Written by Kappy with additional contributions from a brody.
If you plan to migrate an entire user account, then you cannot be logged into a user account with the same name. You should create your first admin account using a different name from the one you will migrate. You can log into your old account after migration and delete the other account.

  • MSE 3310 unreachable from NCS PI

MSE3310 has been up and running almost a year now and talking to the NCS Prime Infrastructure server with no problem.  This morning arrived and checked the wireless via NCS Prime and now it shows the MSE as unreachable.  The MSE and the Prime servers are both virtual and on the same network.  I am able to ping to and from the MSE and Prime cli's with no problem.  I have tried reboots and restarting the MSE services with no luck.  Waiting on response from TAC, but was hoping somebody else had experienced this issue.  Thanks for any info.

As per Matrix these version are compatiable:
If the MSE is unreachable from NCS make sure the service is running using one or all of these:
    [root@MSE /]# /opt/mse/setup/msed status
    [root@MSE /]# /opt/mse/setup/msed start
    [root@MSE /]# /opt/mse/setup/msed restart

    Hello,
