Migrating from Solaris to AIX

Hi
We are planning to migrate from Solaris to AIX. What document will help me to follow?
If possible send me exact link.
Our current environment is R/3 4.6c, Oracle 9.2.3 and Solaris 5.9
Please let me know as quickly as possible.
Thank-you

Start with
http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration
--> FAQ
where you will see, that you need a certified migration consultant on-site to do that migration.
> Our current environment is R/3 4.6c, Oracle 9.2.3 and Solaris 5.9
since that version is out of support for a long time there are no more official migration guides available, that must be covered by consulting. Technically it will be done by R3SETUP with DBMIG.R3S as parameter file.

  • Migration from Solaris To AIX

    Options :-
    10.2.0.4
    1. Logical Standby - Speed / performance may be a factor along with datatypes.
Primary will be on Solaris logical standby will be on AIX, I am not sure of the sql apply speed here.
Does anyone have a practical experience to indicate if it is reliable to use Logical standby fro 3 Terrabyte database's?
    2. Streams - Implementaiton will take a lot of time along with perfromance issues.
    3. export / import -slow
    4. Transportable tablespace with rman convert feature, the issue is the space required for rman convert is two times the storage required. So if primary was 100 Gig you would actually require 200Gig of space to do the conversion.
Also how fast is the conversion I am not sure.
    5. Restore from tapes
Any thoughts from anyone on which would be the most successful solution.

    Hello,
About the solution 1) you should care of the Datatypes. All the Datatypes are not supported by
    Logical standby database.
About the solution 3) it's better to use DataPump (expdp/impdb) rather than classical export/import
utility. I could migrate quickly a 130 GB database in less than 2 hours and half in Standard Edition.
In Enterprise Edition you can use PARALLEL option and have even better performance.
Else in 10g, depends on your "endian" format of the source and target OS the datafiles can
be cross compatible. There's a compatibility matrix in Metalink. So in some case the restore solution
    can be used straightly.
Hope it can help, it's not easy to move 3 TB.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • Oracle migration from solaris to AIX

    Hi,
We have a activity of a migration of oracle 9i Solaris database (800G in size) to AIX oracle 10g database, we use RMAN and exp/imp as a backup method. What are the efficient and fastest methods to do this and i what way?
    Thanks
    Jaffy

    Hi
As your database is large so try transportable tablespace features for different platform migration. If endian format is same you don't need to use RMAN for datafile conversion. If endian format is different you need to convert datafile.
You will get information about supported platform from V$TRANSPORTABLE_PLATFORM .

  • Migration Oracle db from solaris to aix

    Hi,
I would like to ask you for a best way how to do..
We have a large international Oracle migration effort from Solaris to AIX. We have some challenges where a standard export/import will not work due to the extended distance between sites. As an example we are migrating from Japan to Texas.
What is the best tool to use?
I looked around and I found Oracle Golden Gate.
do you have any other idea?
    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Tom

I dont have more info about the project but there will databases (maybe 500) with different sizes (x MB - x TB) and there could be single and RAC.
I am looking for any tool/utility where I will be able to prepare migration document which could be used as baseline for migration all of them.I do not think it will be possible to use one approach for all DBs in your case. You should split DBs into groups you may use different approaches.
    Among 500 DBs will be:
    a) databases with "low availability" requirements where long downtime is possible. so you can stop app, take an export, import into remote db, re-target app to new db.
    b) databases where only short downtime is possible. then you can use DataGuard or some replication technologies (OGG, Shareplex, DataCurrents) to make "final sync".
    c) databases with "high availability" requirements where NO downtime is possible. Here you can use some replication technologies (i.e. DataCurrents and may be others can do it). First you copy data to remote DB and "remember" SCN you got the source dump, then you keep replicating all changes starting from this SCN. As soon as remote DB becomes in sync, you quickly switch the app to new DB.
But I never did migration accross states (more than 1000 miles).Distance does not matter. You should have good bandwidth network connection between sites.

  • Migrate form Solaris to AIX

    Hi all,
I'm currently performing a datawarehouse database migrating from Solaris 9, Oracle RAC 10g 10.2.0.3 (64 bit)
to a new server on IBM AIX 5.3. Can I use transportable tablespace feature to migrate form Solaris to AIX ? The database size about 4TB.

Assuming you're talking about Solaris SPARC you can transport a complete database:

  • Moving an Oracle Database from Solaris to AIX

    Hi all,
I have been asked to move an SAP system using an Oracle database from
Solaris to AIX (on an IBM P590).
Most of the move is straightforward, except the Oracle database
transfer. It would make my life so much easier if I could simply
restore the Oracle datafiles from an off-line backup of the Solaris
system and then link it to a clean install of the Oracle binaries on
the AIX system, rather than have to do an export and import.
Is this possible, after all the AIX Oracle binaries would be the same
patch level as the Solaris binaries and the file systems would be the
same. Also as it would be an offline backup we would not have to do
any recovery, so the archive logs and the original redo logs would not
    be required.
Does anyone know if this is possible or has actually executed it
successfully, any hints and tips on the gotchas would be greatly
    appreciated.
    TIA
    Chris aka BoobBoo

    Hello Chris,
unfortunately you didn't write anything about your oracle version or your backup mechanism like RMAN,etc..
I think you will use Solaris on a SPARC architecture and not on x86? (same endian)
If you have RMAN and 10gR2 then you can use the "Database Transport Across Same Endian Platforms":
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/wnbradv.htm
    > RMAN now supports the CONVERT DATABASE command, which can prepare a whole database for transport to a new platform that uses the same endian format. Database transport across platforms provides a faster and easier way to move databases from one platform to another than previous solutions requiring the use of Data Pump.
Metalinknote #413586.1 has a FAQ and a step on step guide.
If you have created your tablespaces under Oracle 10g (no oracle upgrade from previous releases!!) you can use the "Transportable tablespace feature" and copy the database files. SAP has published note #1035051 for that.

    EBS version: 11.5.10.2
    DB version: 10.2.0.5
We have checked the certifications in Oracle support.
Oracle EBS 11.5.10.2 is not certified with Linux x86-64 RHEL 5.
Oracle EBS 11.5.10.2 is certified on Linux x86 RHEL 5.
So we require Database 10g (10.2.0.5) on Linux x86-64 RHEL 5 and Application EBS on Linux x86 RHEL 5.

  • OS Migration from Solaris 10 to Windows Server 2008 R2 or higher

    Hi experts,
We'd like to migrate the OS of our SAP systems to windows from Solaris 10. We're still wondering which version of Windows we'll use. (matter of money)
Could you give me some docs, tips or advice to do that ? (requirements, how to do it, packages to install)
I have checked berforehand that all the SAP solutions we're using are compatible with Windows Server 2008 R2 or higher.
I heard I'd need an OS Migration Expert to do it, but still, before that I need to check if it's possible and a roadmap could also be nice.
    Thank you in advance,
    Best Regards.
    Alexiel.

    Hi Alex,
From license perspective you need to procure license for Windows 2012 but for installation you can downgrade it to windows 2008 R2 as required.
From suggestion perspective, it is always good to go with Windows 2012 to gain benefits from mainstream support and new features as compared to windows 2008 r2.
As per SAP recommendation, it is good to have OS/DB certified consultant to perform the migration.

  • Db migration from Solaris 8i to windows 10g

There is requirement to move db from solaris8(dbversion8170 to window Server 2003 (10204 already installed)
DB is about 80gb big, what would be the best approach ?
I am thinking to create new db on windows, and export and import data.....any concerns/suggestion?

TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production

what are other options i can try ?I only mention this approach because you asked. I wouldn't recommend it as a general strategy. exp/imp is the most straight-forward.
We are in the process of migrating from 9.2.0.6 to 11.1.0.7 (11.2 is not an approved standard yet in our enterprise), moving from Solaris to Linux, and consolidating two related instances into one.
We had to handle some unique situations due to our consolidation, so we did a lot of the steps manually that exp/imp does for you. A side benefit of this extra work is the actual down time is can be less than exp/imp itself, and avoids the need to dump all the data to disk and read it all again. We have about 500GB to migrate. It is a lot more work than a simple exp/imp, and is probably not be worth the effort for a single 80GB instance.
Our steps (oversimplified, there are more details than this) :
Set up the new instance and configure storage
Create users and roles in new DB
export structure only (using 9i exp)
import structure only (using 11g imp), without indexes or constraints
copy data (insert /*+APPEND*/ into.. select * from ... over a database link)
    create indexes and constraints
Handling LONG data, materialized views, interdependencies between schemas each presented their own special circumstances I had to deal with.
The other path to get from 8i to 10g (mentioned only for academic reasons) is do a series of upgrades-in-place to get from 8i to 10.2.0.4 then use cross-platform transportable tablespaces to go from Solaris to Windows.

  • Oracle migration from Solaris 64 sparc to Solaris x86-64

Now that Solaris x86-64 is supported in Netweaver 2004s SR1, I was wondering about the migration path.
Would this be a heterogeneous migration or a homogeneous migration.
or to put it another way Export/import to migrate
    or backup/restore????
No documents exist yet regarding this migration.

    Hello Guys
Just wanted to ask you whether Migration of SAP system from Solaris SPARC to Solaris x86_64 is possible using the
    backup/restore method.
I would be grateful if you could share your experience

  • Migration from Solaris Sparc server to Solaris  x86

    Hi ,
    I would like to know.
Migration from SAP ECC6 , Oracle , Solaris Sparc to Ecc6, Oracle, Solaris x86 , Is this consider Heterogeneous or Homogeneous system copy?
    Thanks.
    Best Regards,

Solaris on SPARC is a BIgEndian platform, Solaris on X86 is LittleEndian - so it's heterogeneous --> you need to use R3load to performa a migration - and you need to have a certified migration consultant on-site to do that migration (http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration --> FAQ).

  • Oracle migration from Solaris to Win

    Dear All,
I need to create a test database, so I have to migrate a 10.2.0.1 DB from Solaris (64 bit) to Windows 2003 Standrard Server (32 bit).
The problem is that I cannot see anything related to this Win version in the v$transportable_platform view, the only one near to this is "Microsoft Windows IA (32-bit)"... This is not an IA machine, so I assume that my only way to transport is exp/imp... There is 100GB of data, so any help would be highly appreciated related to the speed...
    Thanks,
    Franky

Windows Server 2003 32bit (based on x86) means Oracle generic software for Windows 32bit. You can use RMAN's crossplatform-feature, although a direct conversion doesn't work (because of different endianess), you need some extra steps. Refer to this document:

  • Migration from Solaris 9/GNOME 2.0 to Solaris 10/JDS 3

    Hi,
I am not sure whether this is an appropriate forum to post this question
but I first tried the "Sun Java Desktop System Support Forums" but was t
old that they do not cover the Sun supplied JDS .
We are in the process to migrate our workstations from Solaris 9/Gnome 2.0
to Solaris 10 with JDS 3. There are some migration issues which came
up after the first trial installations. So far I could not find any solutions to
    them.
Many of our users currently have a panel with various launchers on the
top of the screen. This panel disappears when a user logs in under
JDS 3. Is there a way to migrate these panels so that they appear
under JDS3 in the same way as under GNOME 2.0?
The workspace configuration is lost when moving from GNOME 2.0
to JDS 3.0. The number of workspaces is reset to 4 and the names
vanish. Can this configuration be copied over to JDS 3?
    Many thanks for any hints.
    Regards,
    Matthias Ernst

Personally I think JDS3 is a bit awkward and
certainly not as nice to use as Gnome2. I was
disappointed to see the CDE apps menu has disappeared
too, I had to figure out where certain apps are on
the HDD, something I never thought to do in the past.
Specifically I was looking for SMC, which I
    eventually found in /usr/sadm/bin/smc.
I was under the impression from Sun's own
documentation, that Gnome would be the replacement
for CDE, I figured they'd included it with latter
Solaris9 installs as a stop gap. I also noticed that
    when I installed Solaris10, I saw a message box
mention KDE a few times so I expected to see an
option for KDE as well. Dunno if it's hidden away
somewhere but I'd sure like to know what it was all
about.I wonder whether one can get rid of some of the JDS stuff and just use the GNOME part. I never understood why so many of the desktop environments try to immitate Windows even to the extent that there is a launch (aka start) button.
