Migrating from Sup2GE to Sup720 Native IOS

We are planning to migrate a 6509 chassis from a single Sup2GE & SFM to a Sup720-3B.
Can this be done without a service interruption? If so, what is the recommended procedure for this?
If anyone has done this, I would love to hear your story.
Thanks in advance.
John

John,
Definitely this asks for downtime. I hope you are familiar with the fact that there are two trains of OSes (CATOS and IOS) for the 6509 Sups. IF you are running CATOS now (hybrid) and migrate to SUP 720 which also run's hyrbid then you are OK with not having to convert Operating systems. If you want to use IOS (router like) features on the 6509 after you migrate to Sup 720, you may need to install IOS on the Sup 720. You will also need to convert your existing configs from CATOS to IOS so that your new Sup retains all the configurations that your old switch had.
I would recommend that you keep the OS same on both Sup's so that the migration goes smoother and later on if you want to conver OSes you can do it at a later time. Remember there is a lot of difference in syntax between the commands used in both OSes. Here are a few links that may help understand the diff.

If you are converting OSes you will need to refer to this link.

THe conversion process takes about 30 mins to an hour depending upon how familiar you are with the conversion process. Remember not to miss any step specified in the above links while conversion.I would definitely recommend, to test this procedure in lab before you are comfortable with doing this in production.
In addition to all this, here is a tool that will convert your current CATOS configs to IOS syntax.

You will need your CCO login and password.

  • How to open Adobe Reader file from another native IOS application?

    There is an existing thread, but I want to re-open it because I think this is an important feature that we need badly.  I was wondering if there is any plan to add this feature so we can open PDFs directly into Adobe from the web / other apps.
    How to open Adobe Reader file from another native IOS application?
    Basically, we just want to use a custom URL scheme to open a specific document in the App.  Currently, this only opens the app but does not load the file.
    APB

    Not to hijack the conversation but I can explain why this would be useful for both the above case and another.
    What I believe Pavel is talking about is setting up a "URL Scheme" for the Adobe Acrobat iOS application so that you can easily open a PDF specifically in Adobe Acrobat iOS from other native applications and even from web applications opened within Safari. This is particularly useful if your application requires some of the specific features in Adobe Reader iOS to grant them the best experience possible and you want to encourage this.
    Another case: If you're using Adobe Livecycle's document security modules (that encrypts PDF files so that Adobe Acrobat must "phone home" to decrypt and view the document), these PDF's can only be viewed inside the Adobe Acrobat application and appear as blank in most other PDF readers. Having a URL scheme allows your application utilising this functionality to have a 1 click step to view the PDF rather than the current non-user friendly process:
    - Within Safari, touch the PDF link (appears as blank in the default Safari PDF reader, which in itself is confusing)
      - Touch "Open in..."
      - Touch "Adobe Acrobat"
    We have an immediate need for this functionality for the example above. I can resubmit it in a separate post if necessary.

  • How to add photos taken in iOS 8 to albums migrated from iPhoto

    Does anyone know how to add photos taken in iOS 8 to albums migrated from iPhoto, or do I have to set up another set of albums?

    Albums that you synced from a computer can't be amended in the Photos app, the only way to add (or remove) photos to those albums is to do it on your Mac and resync.

  • How to convert a Hybrid Sup3 to a Native IOS Sup3

    I have redundant 6509's with currently 1 sup 3 board in each. The Sup3's are running Native mode. The Sups are not running redundant to themselves. If I lose a switch, I have to physically move cables from one switch to the other. I have just received 2 new Sup3 boards that are configured for Hybrid. How can I incorporate the new Hybrid boards into the NAtive system and convert the new boards to NAtive and get the MSFC's and Sups to back each other up? Is there a simple document or URL that anyone can direct me to? Or has anyone experienced this for themselves???

    There is no "Sup3" for 6500. Did you mean to say a Sup720? Here are the conversion process.

    If you have a Sup32, we do not have Native IOS for it at this time.

  • Prodedures of converting CatOS to native IOS in production

    I'm converting a few 6509 Sup720 in hybrid mode to native IOS. Like to hear your suggestions of how to do it with least impact to production and minimum need of being on site physically.
    A few things I can think of:
    1. Convert the standby sup to native IOS first, including the code and config;
    2. Go to the site, physically swap the active sup with the standby sup, and do a reload;
    3. Convert the swapped sup to native IOS code;
    4. Go to the site again, insert the converted sup to standby slot and let it sync with the first sup for config.
    Questions:
    a. If I have two 6509 where hosts are dual homed, from your experience, should I do the convertion one 6509 at a time or both at the same time?
    b. Any way I can simplify the steps?
    Thanks a lot
    Gary

    1. Convert the standby sup to native IOS first, including the code and config;
    2. Go to the site, physically swap the active sup with the standby sup, and do a reload.
    >> If you are removing the current active sup with teh sup that you've converted in step 1. removing the only sup in the chassis will will reload the box already, no need to reload it again when you put in the native sup.
    3. Convert the swapped sup to native IOS code;
    4. Go to the site again, insert the converted sup to standby slot and let it sync with the first sup for config.
    >> This would be the ideal steps, but you will still need to schedule a downtime. Replacing sup during production hours and if nothing goes wrong everyting could be up and running in less than an hour. But scheduling a downtime is still recommended and be prepared for the worst and hope for the best.
    Questions:
    a. If I have two 6509 where hosts are dual homed, from your experience, should I do the convertion one 6509 at a time or both at the same time?
    >> I am infering that if you do both sups at the same time you will still be doing the conversion outline in steps 1 and 2 above. If that is the case then doing both will save you the most time.
    b. Any way I can simplify the steps?
    >> I think, what you have outline is the best way, since you have another chassis to test the conversion which would not put pressure on you to do it quickly.

  • Creation of domain issues - migration from weblogic 10.3.0 to 10.3.5 versio

    Hello,
    i would like to kindly ask for a help with following issue:
    Basically we are migrating from the 10.3.0 to the 10.3.5 version. We are building the domain using the template in "silent mode". And when i try to create the domain with new weblogic 10.3.5 im getting some errors.
    The command to run the creation of the domain is following:
    ${WL_HOME}/common/bin/config.sh -mode=silent -silent_script=${SILENT_SCRIPT} -log=${WLLOGFILE} >> ${LOGFILE} 2>&1
    returnCode=$?
    SILENT_SCRIPT contains following commands:
    read template from "/local/wg372/BM/appl/config/NEW_DOMAIN_CONFIGURED.jar";
    write domain to "/local/wg372/BM/appl/BmDomain";
    set OverwriteDomain "true";
    close template;
    When i setup new env(solaris) with weblogic 10.3.5 im getting following error when the silent_script command (*write domain to "/local/wg372/BM/appl/BmDomain";*) is executed:

    I tried to google for this issue, look into the weblogic documentation but with no luck.
    So i would like to kindly ask, if anyone of you perhaps could give me a hint/advise with this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    thanks for the reply but im not sure if we are talking about the same thing. What i need is to upgrade the weblogic "DOMAIN" not the weblogic installation itself.
    Anyway,
    after some googling and testing im again stucked with another issue:
    1. First i have created the old doman (10.3.0)
    2. Then i have tested the domain with the new weblogic version 10.3.5 - as it should be (and is) compatible within those 2 versions
    ---> worked fine
    3. Then via offline WLST(of weblogic 10.3.5) i have managed to create new template with command writeTemplate(nameOfTemplate.jar)
    4. But when i try to create the new domain with the new template via WLST(of weblogic 10.3.5) im again stucked (im able to read the template in wlst but not able to writeDomain ) - error:
    wls:/offline> readTemplate('/home/wg372/tmp/new_template.jar')
    wls:/offline/BmDomain>writeDomain('/home/wg372/tmp/new_domain')
    Error: writeDomain() failed. Do dumpStack() to see details.

    Furthemore when i try to do the same with old domain template, with old version of WLST (of weblogic 10.3.0), i have no problems with creating of the domain.
    Any ideas?
    Ill keep you updated :-)

  • I was migrating from a 3gs to the 4s. Big mistake. Have lost contacts and access to music and apps.

    I was migrating from a 3gs to the 4s. Having never upgraded the IOS before, I thought that I should do that before handed the phone down to my daughter to replace her broken 3g. Big mistake. Even using Google sync for my contacts, following instruction from the Google webpage (ambiguous: cancel or not when error message is displayed?) the contacts did not sync to gmail. iTunes says it will sync contacts, but doesn't from the phone, only from the few that were in my old Gmail account. The iCloud set up asks for email and a new password- not specifying that you should use your old email and password for your old iTunes account or your phone will be instantly locked out of those apps and tunes stored there. The web info says you can't merge accounts or passwords, so, I bet I have to cancel the new set up and start over with the old password if it will even let me. I've spent 8 hrs reading, syncing, et c., on this! It will be a long time before I casually buy a new phone from them! I wonder how much time it will take to switch from the 3GS to the 4S? I now have a 3GS without contacts, no way to get the data from those files back, and can't get the apps to it or the 4S until Apple support helps fix the double identity problem.
    Considering that I had verbal instructions from the Apple store prior to the IOS upgrade, reviewed all the details on line, I think this process is woefully lacking in clarity and transparency. The local ATT branch offered nothing except backing up to avoid loss of contacts if both phones were taken to the store, but not any help with the IOS or iTunes content. Cable internet for the 3GS backup and IOS 5 upgrade seemed to take about 2 hours. At least calender, notes, etc. were done correctly and 2500 picture and videos were not removed.

    After the last post,I went to the local ATT for some feedback. The manager there, Stephen, was helpful and spent a long time, even after i had gotten the abbreviated list of contacts I had constructed from the 3GS to the 4S by an iTunes sync with the correct options selected. This however, would not sync notes. I took screen pix of my many stock symbols for future reference, and got them to transfer with Bump (as photos, in case I want to refresh my memory on some of the symbols added previously). I emailed myself copies of 28 notes i did not want to lose, because the iCloud back up would not initially work. After what seemed like years, I finally was able to get it working, following repeated refusal to Merge because of "not enough space available" @5GB even though everything was turned off except contacts and calendar.
    My old phone is finally backed up to the cloud after I turned off location service on new phone, and a bunch of apps and photo data showed up for the first time, as icons to be turned off on the old phone in the  Manage Storage window. It said it was going to back up 8 GB of photos when the photo backup had been turned off on the prior screen. (The screws are loose, and the worm has turned on this software at Apple.)
    Backup for notes, a few contacts, and calendar, over high speed wifi, took 25 minutes to complete without photos.
    I have never seen anything this troublesome in the Apple OS!
    You will need to set your own Apple ID and a .me email ID if you want to use the cloud. My recommendation and that of the store manager for the first time is don't back up any photos, let it erase the photo stream if it wants to. The camera roll should be ok.
    Backing up to the iCloud removed all my stocks from the old phone! It wasn't supposed to. Be sure to select leave data on phone at every opportunity- even so, there they went. It did not remove contacts or calendar when backing up, though the IOS 5 upgrade had lost my years of contacts since I had not specified that they should be saved when I hit the simple sync in iTunes the first time and since Googlesync failed to connect properly for me over wifi as noted above.
    All in all it appears nothing is going to clone your phone or preserve all the data through a IOS 4.x to 5 migration, though I did not do it right the first time with iTunes, and complicated matters by starting with a new ID instead of my old iTunes account and password, living in a small town, away from any Apple store, though if you can't be there at an Apple store with both phones in hand, they probably can't help much unless they walk you through each option in iTunes and you are very attentive. The store genius I saw did not do this, though I had yet to order the phone at that point.
    Good Luck!

  • HT4889 Am I wrong or does Migration Assistant not work in Mountain Lion (10.8.2) when migrating from a PowerPC running Tiger (10.4.11)? Apple really needs to get on the ball or face losing people buying their new desktop products.

    The title alone speaks to my frustration about this issue.
    Used the process that was recommended by Apple to migrate from my "Lampshade" iMac (PPC running 10.4.11) to the new iMac (Intel running 10.8.2) and I got bupkiss...
    Just a spinning wheel (not beachball) and no drive recognized using Migration Assistant for both nor when using Target Mode on the iMac running 10.4.11 and Migration Assistant on the iMac running 10.8.2. Which is ironic, or more accurately oxymoronic, since the iMac in Target Mode (10.4.11) is recognized on the desktop of the iMac running 10.8.2 but not in the Migration Assistant. And before you can misdiagnose..it is not the Thunderbolt connection since I have the Apple recommended Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter and also used the Firewire 400 to 800 cable to expedite the transfer.
    On a personal note...
    I'm not bashing Apple for this...they are "head and shoulders" above the competition in what they do but I've been burned a few times so I feel I can share a small bit of loyal customer advice...I understand your iOS and mobile products hold huge sway in company focus and market-share but I find it a tad unwise to slack on the desktop applications. I don't recall any app for the iPhone/iPad family being made on the iPhone/iPad...only from desktop applications if I recall correctly. And how can I clearly "Move my Mac even further ahead"  as your marketing states when I can't even migrate my files from my old Mac to my new one in a simple fashion as per your instructions?
    I thank anyone in advance with an answer or even a workaround for this issue and please have a great day.

    Migration from Mac OS X v10.4 computers to OS X Lion over your Wi-Fi or a wired network is not supported. However, if both Macs are equipped with a FireWire port, you can use Target Disk Mode to transfer your data:
    Verify that both Macs are equipped with a FireWire port. Note that different model Macs may have different FireWire connectors, which will require an appropriate cable, such as FireWire 400 to FireWire 800.
    On the Mac you want to transfer data from, Restart, and immediately hold the T key.
    Wait for the FireWire logo to appear on the screen.  If it does not, restart and try again.
    Connect both Macs via the FireWire cable.
    On the Mac you want to transfer data to, Open the Migration Assistant application.
    Select the option "From another Mac, PC, Time Machine backup, or other disk" and click Continue.

  • Migration from PC to Mac without losing application data (savegames etc.)

    Hello everyone,
    I am migrating from from my old Windows PC onto a MacBook Pro, and I'm having difficulties with iTunes and my iOS devices (iPhone 4, iPad 1). Maybe someone here can help me out, I'd be ever so grateful.
    I set up iTunes on my MBP yesterday and logged in to my account. I replaced the empty iTunes Media folder with my old one (which contains all my music, videos and applications) via an external hard drive.
    First problem: it wouldn't import these files into my new library automatically. Just showed me an empty library I think I imported the entire iTunes Media folder manually yesterday via "Add to folder". The status right now (after some experimentation) is old iTunes Media folder copied, but nothing imported (that is, I have an empty library).
    When I connected my iPhone and tried to synch, I first had to authorize the MacBook for the iPhone. So far, so good. However when I tried to synch iTunes warned me that if I synch, all data on the iPhone will be removed and replaced by the data from my new local library (which is, of couse a copy of my old library, but doesn't store application data like savegames).
    I tried to do it via "transfer purchased items from iPhone", which took forever, but yielded the same result: a warning that all data on the iPhone would be erased.
    So the question is: How do I connect my iPhone and iPad to iTunes on my new Mac without losing application data like settings and savegames? And why is this so complicated and intransparent? I should be able to just copy my media, say "authorize this Computer, then add iPhone to the registered devices" and then proceed like nothing ever changed.
    I searched the net until three in the morning yesterday, but couldn't find anything that sounded safe enough to give it a try.
    Thanks in advance and best Regards,
    Nate
    PS: I do have the backup-folders from my old PC on a USB stick - are those going to help?

    I was fighting this battle the past few days myself; but actually it is REALLY easy now. See here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/146958/2010/03/moveitunes_windowsmac.html
    Then, once iTunes was on the Mac, I did this:
    1. On the Mac rename ...\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl as ...\iTunes\iTunes Library
    2. On the Mac delete ...\iTunes\iTunes Library Genius.itdb (Apparently the PC & Mac versions are not compatible - iTunes will just rebuild it later)
    3. Launch iTunes and immediately press & hold down the Option key until a dialog opens asking you to Choose a library. Navigate to the folder/drive you've copied from the PC and open ...\iTunes\iTunes Library.
    (thanks to turingtest2 for the above steps)
    That was it. Did it yesterday evening. All playlists, libraries, everything copied fine. No problems; no broken links. Perfect.

  • Migration from WLI2.0 to WLI2.1 - problems and solutions

    We have experienced a number of issues when migrating from WLI2.0 (no service packs)
    to WLI2.1 - We are only using the WLPI (BPM) part of WLI. We decided to publish
    these issues in case they can be of help to others.
    Problems:
    1. The documentation (http://edocs.bea.com/wlintegration/v2_1/migrate/4zubemig.htm#998197)
    says the migration process works from WLPI 1.2.1 and from WLI 2.0 (SP2, 3, 4).
    What about WLI2.0 with no service packs - I don't see why BEA should have left
    out migration from that platform. We decided to follow the process and see what
    happened.
    2. There is no indication in the documentation of how to run the GUI based migration
    tools on Unix, only for Windows so we had to follow the manual route.
    3. The Manual process refers (http://edocs.bea.com/wlintegration/v2_1/migrate/4zubemig.htm#999969)
    to the DB variable setting scripts. It then says to run "migratedb.sh". None of
    these files have extensions ".sh" - the files that were installed have no extension.
    Obviously that did not stop us running them but the documentation needs correcting.
    4. The migratedb scripts calls "WLI_HOME/setenv.sh" - it is confusing that there
    is a second copy of this file in the bin folder called "setenv". Why are there
    2 copies. Also I note that the one in bin is executable and the other is not.
    All very confusing!!
    5. The migratedb script fails to run because we have not previously run setDomain.
    This is not documented.
    6. Running setDomain on a domain moved from a WLI2.0 installaion fails since it
    does not contain the expected folders. That basically means you cannot migrate
    such a domain. We carried on with the process using the bpmdomain so that we could
    at least migrate our database automatically.
    7. Having run setDomain, we tried migratedb again but it failed because we had
    not run switchdb. Again, this is not documented. We ran switchdb successfully.
    8. Now running migratedb creates a file called "migrate.sh". Unfortunately the
    script migratedb then attempts to run a file called "migrate". This is evidence
    that no-one has ever tested this script at BEA and we are very disconcerted by
    this fact!! We renamed the script and ran migratedb again - this time it ran the
    migrate script.
    9. This still fails with the following errors (when calling migrateCommonRep)
         -v (No such file or directory)
         null
         java.lang.NullPointerException
         at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method)
         at java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:120)
         at com.bea.eci.migration.Migrate.getConnection(Migrate.java:207)
         at com.bea.eci.migration.Migrate.main(Migrate.java:73)
         java.lang.NullPointerException
         at com.bea.eci.migration.Migrate.main(Migrate.java:192)
    10. It also fails because it cannot find "sqlplus" - a fatal problem - we do not
    have sqlplus installed on the same machine as WLI and yet again this requirement
    is not documented. At this point we gave up trying to run the migrate script as
    there seemed to be no route forward.
    The process we took to move from WLI2.0 (WLPI only) was as follows:
    a. Since we had done no changes to filerealm.properties we simply copied the one
    fron bpmdomain into our own domain.
    b. We have been unable to run the step to migrate the common repository (see note
    9). If this is referring to the XML repository then that should not be a problem
    to us as we have not used it.
    c. We moved the "migrate/BPM_20SP3-21.sql" script to an NT machine and ran that
    script on our database. This seems to have successfully updated the database.
    Lastly, having completed the migration process we tried to run the server but
    it fails. This is because the startWeblogic script fails to call checkdomain properly.
    We modified the line to become:
         ". $WLI_HOME/bin/checkdomain"     # the '.' was missing
    Does anyone else have any experiences with this that would help us all?
    Pete

    Pete,
    Please post this to the weblogic.integration.interest and weblogic.integration.developer newsgroups?
