What is best Practice for Migrating Hyperion Financial Reports Studio Reports from a Production Environment to a test Environment?

    Hi everybody.
    We have to migrate the Hyperion Financial Reportings reports from Dev to PROD, we tried copying the database from DEV and placing it onto PROD but that doesn't work as I believe there are several tables pointing to the DEV environment.
    Would any of you know to migrate the reports from Financial Reportings? Either moving database or a simple way just to extract and import the reports .

    If you are using Version 11 you could use LCM.
    The easiest way is just to log into workspace and export all the reports in one go, it creates a zip file of all the reports.
    You can then import them into your target env via workspace.

  • VBA to pull from Financial Reporting Studio/Reporting and Analysis Framework

    Hi all,
    I just started using Financial Reporting Studio, and I did a lot of research online to try to answer the questions I have below but to no avail, so I'm hoping I can get answers from the experts here.
    1. I was wondering if it's possible to use SmartView VBA to pull a report from the "Reporting and Analysis Framework" onto Excel? If yes, how?
    2. When I tried to pull lots of data from "Reporting and Analysis Framework" onto Excel using SmartView, it keeps getting the error message "New report failed to insert properly". Is there a way around this? Essentially, what I'm trying to do is pull the Expense data (Actuals, Budget, Forecast) from year 2011 to 2015 (by month) for every department (with each department being on its own worksheet using the split feature). If I reduce the number of departments or columns, it'll work, but when I try to keep everything, it fails.

    There is VBA manual for smartiview application however I am not sure that you will be able to automate the retrieve of a report.

  • Row numbers in Financial reporting Studio report

    Hey I am designing reports in FR Studio that require row numbers next to the line item (Account) description. The problem is that these rows can be dynamically suppressed if they are 0/missing/error. So the question is: how do I get row #s, skipping hidden rows?

    Yes I completely agree, a few extra 'Excel' type functions could make a huge difference!
    Thinking outside the box, one ugly workaround might be ranking??! Could you somehow use ranking on the report to return a row number?
    I'm thinking on the Essbase side you might need to create a member in a dimension other than Accounts that you can store a static value against, incrementing it for each account in your hierarchy, e.g 10, 20, 30 etc. Then in your reports you have a hidden column to return that value and a formual column to rank it in ascending order.
    Like I say not pretty but if you could do it in a dense dim e.g. Period then it shouldn't significantly add to block size / db size as it is only one member, store it against a static member in your other dimensions, e.g. No Year, No Entity assuming you have something similar. You would also need to be careful of your numbering if your row numbers needed to include subtotals so that those values were ranked correctly.
    Its amazing what you can come up with when you have to find a way to do things.

    In the development server reports are running properly with there security.But when we move from the development server to the production server how do we have the reports security backup ?
    Is there any way to take the security backup of reports or we have to follow the same process for giving the security in the production server?

    Vikram,
    I think you need to use LCM to migrate your artifacts from dev to production server.
    Like here you can migrate Reporting and Analysis artifacts
    Like here you can migrate security options.
    You need to use these migrations simultaneously (in one batch) directly between applications on different servers.

  • Financial Reporting Studio - Suppress Shared Members During Entity Prompt

    I am trying to create a Financial Reporting Studio report where the entity members that are displayed as a prompt only reflect the entities the user has access to with only one occurrence in the list. I have tried the following scenarios with no luck.
    In Workspace, the Financial Reporting Preference, the Setup User POV option "Member Selection Displays" is set to "Only Members I Can Access" and not "All Members Regardless of Access".
    The Financial Report is set up so that the user is prompted for the Entity so they can select multiple entities to run the report.
    This works fine, except this is also displaying the shared members in the alternate hierarchies when responding to the Entity prompt.
    As part of Defining the prompt, I have included the main entity structure in the "Choices List" in hopes that the shared members wouldn't display as an option to select, but this ends up displaying all of the entities in the hierarchy overriding what is the Financial Reporting Preference (acts like "All Members Regardless of Access"). I have also tried the Union of "Suppress shared members" and "Same level as" a level zero entity, but I'm still seeing all of the members of the main entity hierarchy, rather than a list of entities the user has access to.
    Is there a way to display all of the entities only once that a user has access to during a prompt for a report? I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!!

    I don't think there's a native way to do this in HFR. How could it be done other than through creating a custom selection list? Okay, I guess that is one way but it hurts my brain to think about maintaining it unless it could maybe be done through IDESCENDANTS of 1 and 2.
    Here are two other thoughts:
    1) Write a report against the Planning (I could be wrong about you using Planning as you specify Essbase, but the question is in the Planning board) tables to get this information. I don't know how to do it, but I'm guessing with some SQL gyrations it should be possible.
    2) Stick an attribute against hierarchies 1 & 2 and report on them that way. You the designer already know that they are related. More maintenance on the front end, but a surefire way to get the member list out.

  • Hyperion financial reporting studio not responding

    hi all,
    I have Hyperion financial reporting studio "client" (Hyperion 9.3.1) installed in my local machine - windows 32 bit machine.
    The machine configuration is:
    P4 3.0 GHz and 1 GB RAM.
    When I launch Hyperion financial reporting studio with username , password and report server information the System performance parameter ( As found in task manager) goes following change:
    CPU usage:fluctuates between 45 - 100% which was initially 1%
    PF usage:jumps to 1.32GB which was initially 362MB
    Physical memory available : drops down from 762188(K) to 1728(K)
    application status: Not responding
    AND ULTIMATELY THE WINDOW OF FINANCIAL REPORTING STUDIO VANISHES .There is no error log created ??
    I cannot proceed further. Please help me out...

  • Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio - usage log and exporting criteria

    Hello, is there a way to run a usage log for the reports that we have in Financial Reporting Studio?
    In addition, can I export the report criterias? I'm looking at potentially archiving some reports we have out on the server that is not currently being used. Thanks much!!!

    The FRReportSrv log file under Hyperion\logs\BIPlus gives you the report usage tracking. I am not the developer of our process and I am not techie at all, but we have a process that scans the log files, parses the log files and load it into Oracle. Then thru Oracle Apex, we develop reports to track FR usage.
    I am not sure what you mean by report criterias. Do you mean, for example, if the report is not used for over 5 months, you would like to archive it? If you can create a similar report like the one I described above, then yes, it would help you to determine the idle reports, but I am not sure if you can automatically archive the reports. I think it would have to be manual, where you would use the export function on Workspace to archive your report.

  • Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio "Failed to Connect to Server"

    One of my report developers recently got a new laptop. Since then, she hasn't been able to open an existing report or create a new one. She can log into Financial Reporting Studio, but when trying to open an existing report or create a new report, she gets the error message "Failed to Connect to Server".
    We've tested using her laptop and using mine. We are both fine on my laptop. We both have same issue on her laptop. Therefore, we don't think it's a security/credentials issue.
    We've searched help documentation and other threads in this forum but haven't been able to find what we need.
    We suspect that file(s) are missing or something wasn't configured properly during the new install. Maybe the Planning ADM Driver?? Our company's tech support hasn't been able to help. This is a new implementation, the consultants are gone, and our IT staff isn't up to speed yet.
    Can anyone offer help as to what file/configuration could be the cause and exactly how to correct?

    We had the same issue after installing the Financial Reporting Studio client.
    If you run the batch script HRRunAnt.cmd in the directory C:\Hyperion\products\biplus\install\bin after installation this fixes the problem.

  • POV in Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio and Workspace

    Hi!
    I have the following problem.
    I create a report in Hyperion FinReporting Studio, choose required members in POV. Save report.
    Then I open it in Workspace and sometimes my chosen POV crushed: sometimes there are no chosen members, sometimes there is a free space.
    How can I fix it? (It's not acceptable to choose POV as a prompt all time). Is it a bug?

    Hi Natallia,
    well first there are two type of POV in Hyperion financial reporting.
    1. User POV
    2. Grid POV
    If you are never getting the USER POV in workspace then it may be that "Preview User Point of View" is off.
    Just check it under FIle-->Preferences-->Financial Reporting in workspace.
    If you want some default selection in your reports all the time, you should use Grid POV instead of USer POV.

  • Hyperion Financial Reports Studio - Activex error 429

    Greetings Everyone,
    I have recently installed Hyperion Financial Reports Studio 11.1.2.1 on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine using the standalone installer (FinancialReportingStudio.exe)
    After the install, when attempting to launch the client we get the classic run-time error 429 for active x.
    I've had this problem before in previous engagements, and the solution was to run the config utility on the computer and the error would then go away.  The problem is that the standalone installer does not seem to setup/install the configuration utility on the client PC.
    Any suggestions on how to solve the problem?  Already tried running the HRrunant.bat and that didn't help.

    Good to hear the issue is resolved ...
    However the update you gave contradicts the first update you gave when you started the thread...that it was a 32 bit machine (client)

  • Issue with hyperion financial reporting studio

    hi friends,
    I am using hyperion 9.3.1 .I am able to open financial management studio as an admin user but when i drag and drop a grid in a report it gives an error stating it is unable to fetch the list of data sources from the database repository.I have configured 1 server as app and report server and another one as oracle database server using ip addresses.Checked everthing including host file but nothing works.Thanks in advance

    We were also facing this same issue. But i was able to solve it. Actually what happened was i remember registering Reporting and Analysis using the same database reusing the same old repository. And after that this issue/error came up.
    So i took the back up of repository database and also luckily still on testing environment and had not much to loose. So i reconfigured the relational database dropping all the databases. It resolved the issue.
    But why it happened and the real cause is not know even Oracle support was unable to answer this.

  • Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio: question re expansion across grids

    Hello all,
    I have built a report in Financial Reporting Studio that consists of 3 grids: 1 for working version, 1 for reconciliation version x and 1 grid for the variance between the two.
    My row dimension is entity, which has been set to "allow expansions".
    I have been asked to set it up so that if the user expands a row in the first grid, the same row is automatically expanded in the second and third grid, showing the user the same members across grids (and therefore across versions).
    Is this possible and if so, how do I set this up?

    Yes it is possible to have same row selected in grid 1 displayed in multiple grids.
    Below steps will also retrive same data, add a formula row (or column also) say in Grid 2 having formula :-
    Grid1.row[1] ,where you want to dispaly same data of Grid 1, row 1 across Grid 2 in some particular row say row 1.
    Then modify the heading for row 1 (in Grid 2) by adding text functions to retrieve the member names of grid 1.
    Select the heading for row 1, on the Heading Row Properties sheet, select Custom Heading. In box, enter the MemberName function to retrieve the member name from row 1 of Grid1.
    The function syntax is
    *<<MemberName("Grid1", 1, "DimensionName")>>*
    If you want only member name then adding text function to desired location heading properties will work.
