Migrating iCal

I'm moving from a 10.5.8 machine (now dead, but Library was backed up) to a 10.6.1 machine by drag-and-drop, but cannot get iCal to recognize the files I have brought over. A July 14, 2009 post from Ferd II describes how to Import corestorage.ics files, but when I try to do this, I get the message "iCal can't read this calendar file. No events have been added to your iCal calendar." Any ideas? Thanks.

Apple Store's Genius was no help, but I later discovered a folder named "Calendars" (not with Application Support>iCal); it needed to be dragged over as well.

  • Attempting to migrate iCal from 10.5.8 to 10.6.7

So I managed to migrate mail, ldap, & the wiki pretty easily ... but ical just isn't taking.
When I put the 10.5 ical data from /Library/Calendarserver/Documents on the new 10.6 server, I get tons of errors about: "No principal found for UID: xxxx". the support boards indicate this is a problem with ldap - specifically that the uuid's have changed. however, mine have not. the uuid's caldavd complains about do exist and are assigned to the same users they were in the 10.5.8 directory
Another problem I've had and have seen discussed on the boards is that 10.6 "changed" (reads broke) how group calendars used to work (when hacked). I don't think this will be a show-stopper for me since the hacky way group calendars worked in 10.5 I don't think worked for us so we just have 1 individual user & 1 individual group account each that we delegate access to their calendar and that becomes our shared calendar solution. I think the 1 group calendar we have (not sure how we created it - it predates me) will be a problem - since I can't find a way to make 10.6 recognize it under the same uuid for that group. But I suppose as long as I could manually create a user with the same uuid as the group I might be able to make it so my users don't have to change their client configurations to point to new urls.
Also, despite all the no principal for uid errors, when I try to access the old group shared calendar's URL I get this:
There was an unexpected error with the request (domain CalDAVErrorDomain / error 5 / description 'The server has not specified a calendar home for the account at "/principals/_uids_/83E1F1D4-9D2F-4515-BBA3-04BB39F3A8BB/ -- https://<servername>:8443/".'). Meanwhile the path does exist (albeit in 10.6's new directory hierarchy /_uids_/83/E1/83E1F1D4-9D2F-4515-BBA3-04BB39F3A8BB)

  • Migrating iCal and Address book data from Mac Pro G5  10.5 to new iMac10.6

I last week moved from my old Mac Pro G5 with OS 10.5 to a new iMac 2.8 GHz Intel core i7.
I succeeded pretty well to move my different files from one computer to the other not using the Migration assistant, which wouldn't work properly, but using my older Mac Pro as target disk.
Everything apparently works well with the exception of the transfer of data from iCal and my Address Book.
As suggested in a previous thread : kimaccdual: A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs, I tried to transfer the complete iCal and Address Book folders from : Home/Library/Application Support from the old to the new computer. This gave no result at all. Not any of the older data : appointments from iCal; names, addresses, phone numbers, etc (in actual fact : nothing) from the Address book application appears on the new iMac.
Can any one make a suggestion as to what specific files with their exact location contain this information so that I could try to transfer these to my new computer with more success than so far.
    Thanks for your assistance
Just for your information I succeeded to transfer Bookmarks from Safari, mails from Mail, iPhoto and iTunes data.
What could be wring with iCal and Address Book ???

    Kappy,
    Thanks for your quick reply.
I tried this for the iCal application, however without any success. In actual fact in Home/Library/Preferences I only found following references to iCal :
    com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
    com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
    com.apple.iCal.plist
which i copied from the old to the new computer as well as the iCal folder in Application Support as suggested.
As already said without any success.
As far as Address Book is concerned only the same type of files, but related to AB, are located on both computers.
Am I missing something or should I look for other files elsewhere f.i. in the "Contents" folder of the application itself ???
    Thanks for anybody's further assistance

  • How do I migrate iCal database from 10.5.8 server to Lion server?

    Hi,

But i do not find a way to migrate the iCal Server Database from 10.5.8 to 10.7 manually. Any hints ?

  • Backup/Migrate iCal Server

    Hi everybody,
How would one migrate the iCal Server from one Lion Server to a new Lion Server?
And related to this question: how do you export the iCal Server data for backup purposes?
    Greetings,
    Martin

Well, the postgres does a data dump daily ... but Apple does not provide an easy restore.
Contact Apple.  I think I'd like to start a petition on this.

  • CalDav Issues: migrating iCal server (10.6) to Calendar (10.9)

We just migrated our 10.6 Server using the migration tool assistant to Mavericks Server. Most of the data migrated smoothly except for the user calendars...
We have all our users running their account as mobile accounts and using the iCal Server service to store their calendars. On our 10.6 server the calendars were store to a specific volume (example: /Volumes/Drobo/iCalServer ). After the migration to Mavericks Server, we activated the Calendar service and then all the calendars for all the users went blank with a default calendar called "calendar"... so it seems we lost all the calendars and events for all the users :-(
How can I restore them? Is there a way to export the calendars from the old server to the new one?
    Thank you.

My impression is that the individual users' Calendars are stored in their individual User Directories on the Server.
    /Users/short-user_name/Library/Calendars/
The actual filenames are impenetrable -- they look like UUID strings.
I did not copy any calendar data around. But when I did my upgrade, I had to re-specify the calendar accounts
(inside Calendar > Preferences > Accounts for each user)
... before it would agree that there was any valid Calendar data anywhere.

  • Migrating iCal data from v2.0.5 to v3.0.5

I guess I was hoping I could Backup my iCal 2.0.5 data and Restore in my iCal 3.0.5 computer. Doesn't work. Error message
    "Restore Failed
iCal data has not been changed."
Since I have 15 calendars in my iCal 2.0.5, I was hoping I could just backup the whole thing a move it to my new computer. Anyone know of a quick way of doing this?
Moving data from an OS X 10.4.11 G4 Tower to an OS X 10.5.5 24" iMac.

    Bryan,
Try using iCal>File>Export... on the G4, and iCal>File>Import... on the iMac. That procedure will be complicated by the fact that you will have to repeat the steps 15 times, but if it works...
    ;~)

  • Migrate ical files to new mac

I created an ical on one mac and then published it. I now want to continue to edit the calendar on another mac. I can trash the original so I'm not running two icals but how can I move the ical calendar from one mac to another? Thanks.

  • Migrate iCal Calendars from 10.5 to 10.6

After reading another thread about this I copied the entire folder from the 10.5 server from the location /Library/CalendarServer/Documents/calendars and everything under that to the new 10.6 server. I was careful not to copy the actual 'Documents' folder but copied the 'calendars' folder and then chose Get Info for the 'Documents' folder and Apply Permissions to Enclosed folders option, so that all the files and folders underneath got the _calendar user permissions.
But now when I login to the server from iCal on a standard 10.6 laptop, I click the + button to add a new server and choose CalDAV and enter the username and password and server address it responds with:
The server has not specified a calendar home for the account at "/principals/_uids_/DE66 etc --" https://miniserver.papsda.co.nz/".
How would one specify this calendar home that it is asking for?
    Thanks,
    Stephen

@spraguga have you referred to the manual at all also? It says the calendar structure has changed and that it will upgrade the 10.5 structure to the new one automatically. Doesn't mention anything else.

  • Trying to copy Tiger's iCal data to a clean install of Leopard...

I have just clean-installed Leopard onto my MacBook, after having done a complete backup of my entire hard drive. I have not used Apple's own Backup software, but rather a 3rd-party backup application, which effectively has just cloned my Tiger drive onto an external hard-drive.
The problem I am having is that I am trying to migrate my Tiger calendars to Leopard's iCal, manually copying across all data, but I cannot figure out which data to copy across to make it work.
Leopard's iCal folders don't seem to match up with Tiger's iCal folders, so I can't just write over like-for-like.
I tried deleting the *User > Library > Calenders* folder from the MacBook, but there was no Calendars folder in the same location on the external drive's backup. All the iCal data seemed to be stored in a *User > Library > Application Support > iCal* folder.
I also copied this folder from the backup to my MacBook (even though there wasn't an iCal folder there on the MacBook) and when I re-launched iCal I got a message saying *"Upgrading iCal calendars"* and a progress bar, but then a second or so later, I get an error message saying *"Failed to migrate iCal calendars"*.
I guess there's more I need to be looking out for...
Does anyone know how to do this?

Did you read my post, and the article you pointed me to?
The solution in the article you pointed me to relies on having used Apple's own "Backup" software, and in my original post above, I clearly stated:
*I have not used Apple's own Backup software, but rather a 3rd-party backup application, which effectively has just cloned my Tiger drive onto an external hard-drive.*

  • Tips on migration?

We had some 10.5 mail problems where it stopped working and seems some files are corrupted. So here we are with a snow leopard install disk. I plan to start mail from scratch.
Are there any tips for migrating ical and collaboration services? I assume web is just a matter of moving the web folder.
And any issues to import the WGM user list?

Good luck with that (as I mumble Kerio under my breath)

In theory, you should be able to simply move the files into place. Watch you permissions so use sudo ditto to ensure you maintain uid and gid. You should watch for user IDs as well so everything matches up. Oh, and hostname probably should match for good measure.
As for web, remember, PHP is still not enabled by default so remember to enable it in the modules tab. WebObjects is no longer their but easily restored and setup. And also, I guess Apple is trying to overcome the performance issues of Leopard, but in my opinion, they set the min spare and max spare values way too high. You can easily cut them in a quarter and get good performance.
And any issues to import the WGM user list?
I've seen none. But, remember, if you are doing an export to standard record format from WGM, you will not get passwords. The only way to do that is to archive the ODM and then restore it on the new. For some reason, that give me chills. I would rather force a password reset on first login.
    Hope that helps.

  • One eight core xserve, will it handle what I need it to do?

My new xserve specs are eight cores @ 2 ghz, 4 gig ram, 2 TB raid 5.
I will have 150 macbook clients, that will not be on netboot. I want to store user home folders, and authenticate. Will this server be able to handle ichat and ical servers for about 20 users? Do I need another server for just ichat and ical or will one handle authentication, home folder storage, ichat(20 users), and ical (20 users)? Apple salesman says that he suggests another just for ichat/ical, but I have been told that I can get away with just one.
I eventually want to get another for backup directory server and can migrate ical/ichat but would like to put it off until later.
    Thanks for help on this.

  • How can I migrate from Outlook 2011 to iCal and Apple Address Book in Mavericks now that synching is no longer possible?

Now that I am on Mavericks and no longer able to sync between my iPhone/iPad and Outlook 2011 on my MacBook Pro, I'm finally taking the leap (which I should have done long ago) and abandoning Outlook 2011 all together (doesn't help that Outlook now prompts me to rebuild by Identity multiple times per day). I am hoping to export from Outlook to iCal, Address Book, etc, but I would love it if someone could check my steps.
Delete iCal and Apple Address Book content -- Because I have old data in iCal and Address Book (that was synched before I upgraded to Mavericks), I planned to delete this data as follows:
Manually deleting my multiple calendars in the iCal app
Go to Go>Home>Library>Calendars and drag "Calendar Cache" to trash
Go to Go>Home>Library>Caches and drag "com.apple.iCal" and "com.apple.AddressBook" to the trash
Go to Go>Home>Library>Application Support and drag "Address Book" to the trash
Export Outlook 2011 Calendars to iCalIs there a file format that I can use to export from Outlook 2011 and then import into iCal? I will use this file format to individually export each of my calendars from Outlook 2011 and import them into iCal.
Export Outlook 2011 Contact List to Apple Address BookIs there a file format that I can use to export from Outlook 2011 and then import into Apple Address Book?
    Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi acs4055,
As per your query I found a relevant solution for resolving this,  actually I haven’t tried the steps you wrote here in your query.  But I found a solid key answer for exporting from Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9.1) Outlook 2011 to iCal for Apple mail. This is possible through Drag and Drop method via this you can undoubtedly migrate Outlook 2011 Calendar to ical format.
Hope it will assist you and you will be able to attain a desired solution.

  • Migration of iCal from PPC G5 10.4.11 to Intel iMac 10.6.6

Some calendars I tried to bring across from iCal in 10.4.11 on a G5 PPC iMac to 10.6.6 on an Intel iMac using Migration Assistant have disappeared ie they are not to be found on the Intel iMac. Where are they or where might they have gone?
One of the more important calendars that did not make it across in the migration was called Anniversaries&Holidays. This calendar, surprise surprise, contained items such as birthdays, public holidays etc that repeat on the same day each year, with a few variations such as Easter, which obviously changes date each year.
I have gone to the back-up of the iCal calendars I had on the PPC iMac in Users/MyName/Library/Application Support/iCal/Sources
and found 8 folders with names such as 9C19D09D-2AA6-455C-8CF7-7AF3C09C9D6A.calendar
This folder has three files in it, including one called corestorage.ics Is this the file I want/need?
Interestingly, I had 8 calendars, so I might expect each of the corestorage.ics files to correspond to each of the 8 calendars. However, when I open each of these corestorage.ics files, I get only a messsage saying this: Adding New Events This Calendar contains new events. Please select a destination calendar: Then follows the name of the calendar. All of the 8 corestorage.ics files appear to want me to save to the same calendar and therefore appear to be identical to each other. Where is the corestorage.ics file that corresponds to the original calendar called Anniversaries&Holidays? I don't have a clue what is going on here. Does anyone else and can s/he help? Many thanks.

This question was answered in another thread. The solution is here:

  • Need help migrating Mail/iCal/Address data from 10.3 to 10.7

Hi, I'm helping a relative migrate from an 8-year old iMac (10.3.9) to a new one running Lion. Mostly it's going to be a clean sweep app-wise, but we need to move iCal, Mail and Address Book data across. Of course, these apps have changed a fair bit in across the last 4 'full' versions of OS X, and the folder structures within the user library no longer match between machines. Can anyone advise me what to copy and what to junk? I appreciate this is a bit of a vague question, but that's the situation. Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

The webtogo was dropped in 11.x.    so the URL has changed.  This is one of those situations which needs to be handled by support.   Have you filed a request with support yet?
