Migrating iDS 5.1 to iDS 5.2 with iMS 5.2 on Solaris 8

Hi,
Have been trying to upgrade our iDS 5.1 directory server to
iDS 5.2 with the iMS 5.2 messaging server. Have been able to migrate all the user email accounts from iDS 5.1 to iDS 5.2 successfully but can't seem to move the iMS messaging server configs from iDS 5.1 to iDS 5.2.
When I start up the iDS 5.2 slapd daemon while the iMS messaging server daemons are running, one can login and use the email user accounts. So this tells me that the user accounts have been migrated successfully. But when I shutdown the iMS messaging server daemons and try to restart, it aborts with an error message about not finding it's config in the iDS 5.2 directory.
To get the iMS 5.2 messaging server running again, I take down the iDS 5.2 daemon and run the iDS 5.1 daemon then the messaging server restarts. I can then take down iDS 5.1 and start up iDS 5.2. As long as I don't restart the messaging server daemons everything works fine with the iDS 5.2.
Seems to me the messaging server config is missing in the new iDS 5.2 directory. How does one migrate it from the iDS 5.1 to the new iDS 5.2 server?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Jeff,
I just did a similar upgrade on Sol 9. I was about to try your method until I realized that I'd have to figure out the "o=NetscapeRoot" tree. That is where the config data is stored. What I did was this:
Assuming DS5.1, DS5.2 and ims5.2 are runnging on the same box
Shutdown iMS
1. Backup your LDAP, db2bak and ldif formats. Back-up your
iMS config directories.
3. Unmount your message store partitions, you put your mailstore on a different partition, right? It can be in the default path but a different disk partition.
4. Uninstall iDA, iws (for iDA), and iMS. In that order.
5. change the DS5.1 port to something other than 389.
6. Install iDS5.2 and run the ims_dssetup.pl script.
7. Install iMS, iWS (for IDA) and iDA.
8. Start iMS. Run configutil to add your non-default mail partitions.
9. Add user ldif and o=pab ldif from an ldif dump
10. Shutdown iMS and remove anything under your store directory.
11. Remount your mailstore partitions.
12. Restart iMS. Reconfigure iMS and the MTA using info from
step 1. Don't bllindly copy everything over. That could cause problems. I did a diff -w -r old_config new_config and went line-by-line.
13. Do an imsmta cnbuild and restart iMS.
14 All is well. :-)
BTW, if you're running Sun Cluster 3.1. You'll need the HA packages from package install distrobution of iDS5.2. Those HA packages are not shipped with the tarball distrobution.

I have two Apple IDs - one associated with iPad and iPhone and the other associated with iMac and MacAir. I am going to lose the former e-mail address imminently and would like to associate all devices with just one ID. How do I do this? Thanks

Thanks - I guess it is like there were two of me!
I bought the iPhone first and it seemed natural to link it to the (work) e-mail address which was in constant use. The iMac for home use came next and it seemed natural to use my home e-mail address, particularly as I knew by then that I would lose the work address after my imminent retirement. The same logic went for the recent puchase of the MacAir. I am not sure what happened with the iPad (also a recent purchase) - iTunes seemed to puch me towards the same ID as the iPhone.
It is not a huge problem - just makes my persona look schizoid! Otherwise very happy with everything Apple.

How can I migrate an Aperture library from an external HDD with Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted) format?
I used to store my pictures on an external hard drive using the latest version of Aperture. Now I tried migrating my Aperture library to Photos. However, after a short moment an error message popped up telling me that "Photos was unable to make a copy of your library before preparing it. Photos does not have the necessary permissions...".
My external HDD doesn't need any permission repairs nor is the system prohibited to read from or write to it.

My guess is that the encryption is the problem for the new app.

  • Migrate from server core 2008 r2 hyper-v with failover cluster volumes to server core 2012 r2 hyper-v with failover cluster volumes on new san hardware

We are getting ready to migrate from server core 2008 r2 hyper-v with failover cluster volumes on an iscsi san to server core 2012 r2 hyper-v with failover cluster volumes on a new iscsi san.
I've been searching for a "best practices" article for this but have been coming up short.  The information I have found either pertains to migrating from 2008 r2 to 2012 r2 with failover cluster volumes on the same hardware, or migrating
to different hardware without failover cluster volumes.
If there is anyone out there that has completed a similar migration, it would be great to hear any feedback you may have on your experiences.
Currently, my approach is as follows:
    1. Configure new hyper-v with failover cluster volumes on new SAN with new 2012 r2 hostnodes and 2012 r2 management server
    2. Turn off the virtual machines on old 2008 r2 hyper-v hostnodes
    3. Stop the VMMS service on the 2008 r2 hostnodes
    4. copy the virtual machine files and folders over to the new failover cluster volumes
    5. Import vm's into server 2012 r2 hyper-v.
Any feedback on the opertain I have in mind would be helpful.
    Thank you,
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
Yes , I agree with that "file copy " can achieve migration.
Also you can try "copy cluster wizard " :

  • Migrating from 2003 domain/forest level to 2008R2 with all DC's at 2008R2 and 2 other Domain External and Forest Trusts

Is there anything that needs to be done or considered when migrating from 2003 domain/forest level to 2008R2 with all DC's at 2008R2 with 2 other 2003 separate Domain incoming
and outgoing Trusts, one Trust that is a Forest Trust and the other is an External Trust? Is there any chance or risks that doing this upgrade will break either one of these Trust relationships? Some of the user accounts with SID history have been migrated
from both Domain Trusts to our domain. Any chance that this upgrade will break these relationships for users that are using SID history for access to folders and files in their old Domains? If so what can be done to protect these trusts and SID history, prior
to moving the Domain to 2008R2

    Hi,
    Based on my knowledge,
the Upgrade of the function level do not affect the trust relationship.
Besides, before you upgrade the Functional Level,
verify that all DCs in the domain are, at a minimum, at the OS version to which you will raise the functional level.
Once the Functional Level has been upgraded, new DCs on running on downlevel versions of Windows Server cannot be added to the domain or forest.
For more information about function level, we can refer to following links:

    Hi user475162,
The best method to migrate the AppsTier from windows to Solaris can be found in the following note:
Note:238276.1 - Migrating to Linux with Oracle Applications Release 11i
The above note can also be used for Solaris.
Also be sure the Solaris system have the prereqs installed as listed in :
Note:234781.1 - Oracle Applications 11.5.9 - Installation Update Notes for Solaris Operating System (SPARC) - B10847-01
Using this note you be sure the file version will be exactly the same as the windows machine.
The database needs to be moved using the export/import note as already suggested

  • Error:Package migration from version 8 to version 6 failed with error 0xC001700A

I was about to post a similar question where the package runs fine on VS2013 but errors when I run DTEXEC from the command prompt.
    Error:
     Code: 0xC0016020
     Source: Package
Description: Package migration from version 8 to version 6 failed with error 0xC001700A

    Hi TheDenver,
Based on the error message that “Package migration from version 8 to version 6 failed with error 0xC001700A ", we can infer that the underlying cause is that the current SSIS package is created in SSDT BI 2014 for Visual Studio 2013, while you are trying
to execute it with SQL Server 2012 DTEXEC. It seems that SQL Server 2014 Integration Services (SSIS) is installed on a machine that has SQL Server 2012 Integration Services (SSIS) installed, multiple versions of the dtexec utility are installed.
SSIS versions are not backwards compatible. SSDT BI for VS 2013 is used for SQL Server 2014, SSDT BI for VS 2012/SSDT 2010 is used for SQL Server 2012. Please notice that once a package is upgraded from SSIS 2012 package schema to SSIS 2014 package schema,
the package cannot be downgraded. So we cannot open or execute the SSIS 2014 packages with SSIS 2012 anymore.
To fix this, please ensure that you run the correct version of the utility, at the command prompt run the utility by entering the full path (<drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\120\DTS\Binn).

  • HT4913 1 computer, 2 users each with own apple IDs - iCloud problems with iTunes

We've both paid for iCloud/iTunes Match with our respective IDs, but only one of us can actually use the service at a time on our shared computer, and then the other is locked out for 90 days.  When I login the the machine with my login, my iTunes is linked to my apple ID, but I can't use iTunes Match anymore because my husband authorized the computer to his Apple ID/iTunes Match account.
Is there a way around this so my husband and I can each use iTunes match, since we both paid for a year of service?  Anyone know how I can get Apple to just cancel my service for the remainder of the service period and refund this amount since I can't actually use the service?

I spent nearly 2 hours on the phone with 3 Apple representatives trying to figure out how my husband and I could both use our new computer (MacBook Pro) to manage both of our iTunes accounts.  Like you, we both have separate apple ids / accounts.  I began by establishing my Match account, and it worked wonderfully!  I then tried to do the same for my husband's account.  This is what I found out: according to Apple reps., Match can only be used by one apple account user on the one computer.  This seems CRAZY to me!  My husband and I do not both need our own computers; he rarely uses a home computer.  I understand that Apple is trying to prevent the stealing of music, but we are not stealing anything.  I simply want my husband to be able to enjoy the benefits of Match.  This forum suggests using "Home Sharing," but it seems to me from what I've read, "Home Sharing" only works with the same Apple id as well, so that doesn't help me any either.  It has been a time consuming and frustrating situation.  Any suggestions from anyone???

Part of the difficulty is that the iDS 5.0 server must deal with the
schemas in LDIF format. Though, I'm gradually finding that I prefer
this for bulk creation of servers. You can try the attached ldif.
(I apologize for the format--it's the only way I could see this
    stuff without going blind.)
The other thing you need to do is build the indexes and VLV for the
database containing your suffix, by default userRoot.

i'd be inclined to leave things as they are. Managing app updates over more than one account in the same library or device requires you to sign in and out of each account in turn. You cannot transfer content from one account to another.

Any way of getting the ID & GUID of the just inserted record out of the prcedure?
    Thanks
    Andrea

Why do you need this instead of trigger? Can't you simply insert into the view? Maybe enable WITH CHECK OPTION to prevent wrong values beeing entered via the view. Or simply insert into the table and not the view. As long as it is done in the procedure, you are safe that there is no priviledge confict.

  • Migration assistant stopped working and has left me with 100gb in 'other'? How do I delete 'other' and what is it exactly?

I recently invested $2000 (one week ago) in a Macbook Pro Retina 2014 2.8ghz 512gb. Dont get me wrong, I am in love with my product and am extremely satisfied but I have honestly encountered nothing but issues.
My first issue was the transferring of data from my 2010 white macbook 500gb. Both laptops have Yosemite installed and are 100% up to date but I have spent the last week getting them to talk to each other. I am not new to the workings of Apple but I have never endeavoured to use applications such as airdrop, migration assisstant or even bluetooth.
My first attempt was to transfer 200gb of files (Photos mainly, I'm a photographer) to my other laptop via a 64gb USB in segments. But after an hour and only 10gb getting copied across, I decided other alternatives may be of more help.
That is when I came to my first dilemma: AIRDROP. Airdrop is crazy. Yes I did click the option on my retina to search for older macs and yes they did connect. I can send files from my MBR to my white macbook 2010 immediately but my old macbook will not send files to my retina. Yes all of the necessary sharing settings are in place - both MacBooks have the same settings selected so I cannot figure out what to do. Information on this subject would also be helpful yet it is not the end of my troubles.
    Second Issue: Migration Assistant.
So yesterday I discovered this little 'gem'. I am a very impatient person so you can imagine i did not appreciate 20 hours of file transfers (via wifi as i do not have a thunderbolt to ethernet adaptor for MBR). Anyway that's all well and good if it actually worked. But of course it did not. I followed apples instructions and I was down to my final 4 hours this morning when my MBR told me the connection was lost and to reconnect. It was making the loudest whirring noise like air coming from inside the hard drive or something. I freaked out. My $2000 machine should not be doing this. It was only a little bit warm; not hot but it was incredibly loud, I'm not sure how to describe it. Keep in mind this computer is brand new so please tell me: WHAT WAS THE SOUND?!?!?!?! AND WHY? what was wrong? what could I have possibly done wrong? My wifi WAS working because my desktop PC was connected. So i waited and waited. Of course I couldn't actually do anything without quitting airdrop and in the end that's just what I had to do. A lot of time wasted for such an unsuccessful cause.
That brings me to my final issue:
So after migration had.... "completed" or crashed or whatever you want to call it, I at least assumed some of the files had maybe copied over and i could just resume from where I left off last time somehow. Oh how stupid that assumption was. My user account did in fact copy over but not a single file copied. And yes, I did log into that user account to check. ANYWAY, I went onto "about this mac" to see my storage info (still being optimistic about my wasted 20 hours). SURPRISE SURPRISE: Yet another problem. I now have 100gb in "other". This macbook is brand new. I should not have any GB in other. I am so incredibly annoyed. HOW DO I DELETE OTHER?! (preferably without downloading software) and is there anything else of importance in other that i should be careful not to delete that is contained within other?
I am only 15 years old  and this was a massive investment for me so I treat my Macbook like a baby. And no, I'm not spoilt by my parents. I had to work at Subway for a year to earn $2000 - without spending a single cent (My wage is only $9.00AUD an hour so i essentially worked some 222 hours for this macbook). And I'm not crazy, I needed it for school.
Anyway I'm not impressed with apple. I have Applecare but they aren't open on the weekends or whenever I try to call so that hasn't exactly been helpful. PLEASE HELP ME.

Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the page that opens.
In the keychain list, an item named "System" should be listed. If it isn't, select File ▹ Add Keychain from the menu bar and add the following:
    /Library/Keychains/System.keychain
Now search in Keychain Access for the name of the wireless network (not the name of the router.) Double-click one of the items and check the box labeled Show password in the inspector window. You'll be prompted for your keychain password to confirm. Make a note of the network password. Then delete every "AirPort Network Password" in the search results. Quit Keychain Access.
Go back to the Network preference pane and recreate the Wi-Fi connection with the same settings as before. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
