Migrating Interactive Unix system to Solaris 8
We are migrating a system developped using Interactive Unix 4.1 to Intel Solaris 8. Anyone has experienced that?
First difficulty is to read Interactive file system under Solaris, any tools for that?
Thanks!
If you'd like to send me private mail to [email protected] I may be able to offer some pointers.

MS-ACCESS from Unix system..
Hi,
I have a MS-Access database on Windows 2000 server. I need to write a java program running on a Unix system (AIX, Solaris or Linux) that accesses the database on the windows 2000 server. I can make it work on windows box using JDBC-ODBC bridge. How can I do that from a unix box? Thanks. The easiest way is to get a pure Java JDBC driver for
MS Access. I am rather certain that that does not exist. There are certainly systems that provide a java only driver which allows one to access MS Access. But they involve more than just java.
(Every time I searched the JDBC driver list for MS Access drivers all I found were proxy drivers.) -

Error: source context file ul01appapplmgrlasrxadminLASRX_fiapd4.xml does not exist.
Questions:

1. we still need to install jdk in the TARGET or copy the file system from source(HP) to target( Solaris) bring the JDK and how to check jdk on Solaris?
2. In clone autoconfig XML, contextfile=? Is the location of SOURCE or TARGER?
3. I think running above with root permission.
Please help somebody on this issue.
Thank You.Hi Hussein,
I need your help on the Application migration from HP-UNIX to SUN Solaris. As per the note 238276.1 we dont copy $806_ORACLE_HOME for cross platform migration, Copied all the filesystem from SOURCE to TARGET but rename it because it suppose to create while installing Middle tier.

Solaris 8 and SunSoft Interactive UNIX
Can Solaris 8 mount a SunSoft Interactive UNIX drive? Have Solaris 8 running from IDE drive. Have SCSI controller installed with Interactive UNIX SCSI drive. /dev/dsk/c2t0d0p0 is the first partition, and can be read via "dd" or "od". But mount won't touch it. fdisk reports "Unix" partition. Any way to mount? Thanks.
You need to have the SAN Foundation Software loaded and running. You can get it at http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs/Welcome.jsp?StoreId=8&PartDetailId=StoreEdgeSw-4.0-G-F&TransactionId=Try
If it's installed and running make sure to read the docs also available at the link above. -
OID and Solaris/Unix system authentication
Does anyone have any experiences with using OID as a SSO solution for unix system authentication/authorization. I'm looking at using pam_ldap, but didn't know if Oracle had an alternate suggested implementation? Any help/pointers are appreciated.
Thanks,
--MarkFigured out that you need to run the following to have the DB subscribe to a policy in OID:
sa_policy_admin.policy_subscribe('POLICY_NAME');
this adds the dn of the DB to the uniquemember attribute of the POLICY_NAME entry in OID. Once I did this, I could add the policy to DB objects.
I also discovered that when you create a profile in OID, the olsadmintool documentation is not corrrect. When you create the minimum write label, do NOT include any compartments or groups in the definition. The only valid item in this label is LEVEL. Once I recreated my profiles with a valid min write label, everything seems to work ok.
I am having issues with updating a Profile definition in OID and seeing the corresponding update reflected in the DB SA$PROFILES and SA$USER* tables. -
Print Module confusion - settings, templates, and migration to new system.
I'm a little confused by some aspects of the print module. First, I tried copying some of my print templates from Lr1.3 over to the print template folder in 2.3, and they didn't' seem to work right. The layout display in the upper left preview window did not match the layout of the main preview window, and many of the settings were not right, such as what printer was supposed to be used. Is there a problem with using 1.3 templates in 2.3?
Next, I can select a paper type in the printer driver AND in the Lr color management section. Do these each do different things?
Also, what does the Lr "Print Resolution" do -- i.e. how does it interact with the printer driver "quality" options, which sets the resolution? Does one setting override the other? If select the maximum quality (i.e. max resolution) in my printer driver settings, should I uncheck the Lr "Print Resolution" setting?
Finally, when I migrate from one system to another, am I supposed to manually copy over all my templates? I would have thought that these would be saved in the catalog, but apparently this is not the case.
Thanks for clarification on these issues,
LarryDoes anybody have any feedback on this? I could really use some help since even after numerous searches I still cannot find the answers to the question above.
Thanks,
Larry -

Migration from AIX Oracle8i to Solaris Oracle8i?
Hi,
I wonder how to migrate Oracle 8i (8.1.7) on AIX to Oracle
8i (8.1.7) on Solaris?
The Oracle version is the same, but only the O.S platform is
different. I have found the migration information from Oracle
web site but it only talks about migration between different
database.
Thanks.> In our organisation, we are planning to migrate from AIX6.1 to Solaris x64. The processor which we'll be using is UltraSPARC+IV processor.
Well - I think you're mixing a few things up here.
Solaris x64 refers to Solaris on the Intel or the AMD processor (x64 == x86_64 == AMD64)
UltraSPARC IV+ refers to a CPU developed by Sun (now Oracle).
> 1. Which guide to refer for moving the SAP System from AIX6.1 to Solaris
There are no specific guides for OS migrations. You use the heterogeneous system copy approach. However, migrating a database and/or operating system requires a certified migration consultant on-site doing the migration. If you do it yourself you'll loose support from SAP for problems during the migration and for the target system (see http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration).
> 2. Is UltraSPARC+IV processor is supported for Oracle 10g
Yes. Solaris 10 on SPARC Is supported.

1. Which guide to refer for moving the SAP System from AIX6.1 to Solaris
2. Is UltraSPARC+IV processor is supported for Oracle 10g
Also, please let me know the steps to be followed for the activity mentioned above.

How to invoke VI function in LabView running on Windows from a unix process in Solaris
Labview is only installed on Windows and Process on Solaris is a standard unix process without any Labview installed.
I'm not sure this is possible. Really, the only way to call a VI are from VIServer or ActiveX. Since you don't have LabVIEW on the other machine, that won't work, and you can't use DCOM from a non Windows machine. There might be a 3rd party application like PCanywhere that will work between environments, but I doubt it. Your best chance might be to rig it so that LabVIEW works as a TCP/IP server and will respond to commands by using the TCP VI's. That should be easy enough to use from a UNIX system.

Yes, labview will run on HP-UX, as well as SunOS and Solaris, there is also
a version for Linux.
As far as porting the project from the PC, it should work fine with the
following caveats (there are always some !!)
1. DLLs - these are specific to the platform, if the Labview code uses them
you have a few choices.
A. Remove them and replace with "Pure G" labview code.
B. If you have the source code you could port that to the other platform
(maybe) and recompile.
2. CINs - these are also platform specific, but if you have the code you
should be able to recompile
for the new platform.
3. Active X, OLE, DDE, etc - The
se are all PC specific and can not be
ported, although there MAY
be some workarounds.
4. Hardware - if you have DAQ or other hardware on the PC it may or may not
be available on the other platform.
If the project is all labview and does not use the platform specific
functions (ActiveX, etc) there
should be little trouble porting it.
Good Luck

Data migration from legacy system to SAP
hi all,
could you please post some docs on migration from legacy system to SAP system., also the problems faced while migration and best practices in data migration
regards
sridharanHi ,
I require few details from you.
1. What ETL tool you are using, If Informatica, it already have PowerConnect to connect to SAP. So you can create source and Target Structure and also you can use RFC's to send data to R/3. Else, for other ETL tools, can you prepare RFC's or any other way to send data to R/3. let me know the tool.
2. Does R/3 contains the master data tables? If yes, then try to use LSMW for Mass upload of data to tables.
If your client don't want to use either of these options please elaborate, what is the case.

How to run a JAR file in Unix system?
hi there
ca anyone tell me how to run a JAR file in unix system or X window, thank youYou want to create an executable JAR file? You do it in the following way.
Create a manifest file such as manif.txt and the contents should contain
Main-Class: foo
assuming foo is the name of your main class. Then create the jar as follows
jar cvfm foo.jar manif.txt foo.class
I hope that helps you!

JDBC on Oracle 8.1.5 on Digital Unix System
In my Digital Unix system , Oracle is loaded on a file system different from the user file system . The necessary zip files are in a directory within the Oracle home directory .
When I do an import oracle.jdbc.driver.*;
from a program in my user file system
it says not found .Other programs not using jdbc however run without any problem from my default directory .
Does one need to define a classpath in one's '.profile' pointing to the dirctory where the zip files are located . I have done that already . The problem persists .
What else needs to be done ?
Does digital unix system read zip files ? or are tar files required ?
nullCurrently, Designer 6.0 is certified against Oracle 8.1.6 if you install Designer patch set 4.

ABAP to FTP connect to non SAP UNIX system
Greetings~
I'm looking for a way (via function modules and/or BAPI) to transfer data in flat files from an SAP UNIX system to a non-SAP UNIX system using an ABAP program. I see FM's FTP_CONNECT and FTP_COMMAND however these seem to only work with UNIX systems running SAP as they require RFC_DESTINATION information. Anybody know which (if any) FM's can be used without the necessity of the target system running SAP/RFC?
Thanks!Hi Joseph,
