Migrating iPhoto to Lightroom 3 on new lion osx

I am trying to open iphoto using lightroom 3 or bridge. I have found a suggestion from lightrooomsecrets but it was for the previous osx and does not work the same with lion.  Has anyone had success doing this?

Sorry can anyone else shed any further light on this?
As per Brett's advice i'm linked to HD/Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 9/Adobe Photoshop Elements
I now seem to be able to edit in PSE9 by exporting my image from LR as PSD and then dragging onto the PSE icon. But I can't get the app to open via Photo>Edit Photo>Edit photo in PSE.
would it have anything to do with me still having PSE catalog in use as well as LR catalog?

What iPhoto version is compatible with Lion OSX 10.7.5 and will it let me make photo calendars?
I have just upgraded from Leopard to Lion (via Snow Leopard) because I could no longer order photo calendars with iphoto 7.1.5.  However, I still have iphoto 7.1.5 and need to upgrade this.  From the App store it looks as though I cannot get iphoto 9.5.1 due to the incompatibility with Lion.  I was recemmended not to upgrade beyond Lion due to the age of my iMac computer (2008 version) by Stormfront staff.
What is the best iphoto to upgrade to and how do I do this e.g. iLife '09 or '11, or are there any other 'stand-alone' versions of iphoto that would be compatible?  How do I know whether my computer is capable of upgrading to Mountain Lion?  I definitely want to be able to make photo calendars, books and cards.
    Thanks

iPhoto '09 or '11 - purchase an iLife '09 or '11 DVD (amazon or eBay are potential sources) and install iPhoto and update to the latest version for your OS

Ah, you didn't read the fine print on installing Lion, did you? None of your old software will run in Lion.
    You have two choices:
    A) Buy all new or updated software
    B) Partition the hard drive and install an older version of OSX to run your older apps.
You did not give us any idea of what PowerPC apps you were running, so additional options:
    C)  Restore to Snow Leopard
    D)  Install Snow Leopard (and Rosetta which runs PowerPC apps) in Parallels 7 in Lion:

  • Question: I want to update to the new LION OSX, but it says that I need to at least have an Intel Core 2 Duo. When I click "about this Mac," it says that I have a 2.16 Intel Core Duo. Is there a difference between the "Core 2 Duo" and the "Core Duo"?

Well, my title basically asks the question that I am seeking an answer for. Im not sure what year my MB Pro is, and I cant exactly find it on the Apple site. Its a 2.16 Intel Core Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. All I see (dating back to 2007,) is Intel Core 2 Duo on the apple site. Im pretty sure (but not 100% positive,) that my MB Pro is a late 2008/early 2009. Just trying to figure out if I can install LION OSX or not, since it requires atleast intel core 2 duo, and mine says I only have the intel core duo. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Core Duo is 32 bit processor and Core 2 Duo is 64 bit processor
OS X Lion, will only on 64 bit Intel processor Mac's.
The following Mac's that have 32 bit Intel “Yonah” processorsthat won't run OS X Lion.
    iMac 4,1 Early (Jan-Sept) 2006 17"
    iMac 4,1 Early (Jan-Sept) 2006 20"
    iMac 4,2 Mid (July-Sept) 2006 17"

  • Manually migrate iPhoto 8 Library to iPhoto 9.5

Hi, I have a new MBP. Instead of using the Migration Wizard, and I want to manually move documents from my old MBP to the new one. I want a clean system, as there is a lot of cruft on the old machine from many prior migrations from machine to machine.
My first attempt at moving the iPhoto Library did not go well. I got the Unreadable Files error (1300 files) and iPhoto just hung thereafter. So, I want to try again. But, perhaps I'm not clear on the process of how to manually migrate the iPhoto Library. I did the following - is this correct, or should I have done something else?
Carbon Copy Cloner backup to external HD
Copied iPhoto Library from backup HD to /User/Pictures/ folder on new MBP
Opened iPhoto. It started importing and I went to sleep.
Awoke to review iPhoto import: Result was Unreadable Files error and a hung iPhoto
I had the following folders in /Users/Pictures: iPhoto Library_2 (this is what I copied from backup), iPhoto Library.photolibrary
    System details:
    Old MBP:
    OSX 10.6.8
    iPhoto 8.1.2
    New MBP:
    OSX 10.9.4
    iPhoto 9.5.1
Should I have followed a different process?
    Thanks in advance.

You screenshot does not display for me so I'm answering with the benefit of seeing it.
Opened iPhoto. It started importing and I went to sleep.
Did you try importing the iPhoto 8 library into a new library or just try to open the V8 library directly with iPhoto?
Get a fresh copy of the library from the EHD into the Pictures folder on your new Mac and do the following:
1 - copy the iPhoto 8.1.2 application from the EHD to the desktop, rename it iPhoto 8.1.2.app and place in your Applications folder.
2 - launch iPhoto 8.1.2  with the Option key held down, select the library and try to open.  If it opens OK close iPhoto 8.1.2.
3 - launch iPhoto 9.5.1 with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    3 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Synching IPAD 1 with new lion, warning it can't sync?

when syncing my ipad1 with the new lion osx I get a warning at the very end of the sync, when it syncs photos that my ipad cant be synced because it cant find the file. this however is after it synced various things, and backed up. anyone know what is goin on?

Try deleting the photo cache from your Mac and then re-sync - the location of the cache depends on whether you are syncing from iPhoto, Aperture, or just folders, and is listed in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • Logic Pro 8 won't install on my new Lion Mac! What can I do about it?!!?

Last week I bought a brand spanking new Macbook Pro that I was very chuffed with and runs OSX 10.7.2 (Lion). But now that I have got round to installing my music software, I have found that Logic Studio 8 will not work at all. My old Mac ran 10.5 (Leopard) and apparently the new Lion OSX "..no longer supports PowerPC based applications."
I had no intention of upgrading to Logic 9 but thought I probably would if it was reasonably priced, however, I can't find anywhere online that sells a Logic 8 to 9 upgrade (it appears to have been discontineud) and the full version is over £400! I can't speak to anyone from apple till next week as its Christmas.
    I want to know:
    A. if there is any way of getting Logic 8 to work on Lion (please don't say to get an OSX update as I have the latest 10.7.2 and it definitely doesn't work)
    B. if there is anyway to upgrade to the full Logic Pro 9 (including MainStage 2, Soundtrack Pro 3, 40 software instrument plug-ins, over 80 effect plug-ins,        WaveBurner 1.6, Compressor 3.5, Impulse Response Utility, Apple Loops Utility, QuickTime 7 Pro) for a fraction of the full price.
    C. if anyone else has had the same problem and how it was resolved (e.g. did Apple offer you Logic Pro 9 for free/significantly reduced cost?).
Advanced thanks to anyone who can shed some light (and hopefully good news) on this most distressing subject!!

The general consensus is that LP8 won't run on Lion - as you know. This has been discussed here so try a search.
Otherwise, Apple just released Logic in the app store for I think £129 or something so it's not that much to buy now. I'm not sure if they're offering an upgrade path which is cheaper, but check the app store.

  • MAC Pro Lion OSX 8

  • LION OSX - iLife11???

I just recenty upgraded to the LION OSX and I've been trying to see if the new i-life 11 (i-photo, garageband, etc etc) comes with it?
If someone can clarify it or me whether or not it's apart of the upgrading to the new LION OSX.

If you upgraded, that version of Lion does not include iLife.
If you purchase a Mac with Lion pre-installed, three of the original iLife apps should still be included:
If you want iDVD and/or iWeb, the retail iLife 11 disk is still available at online resellers as well as the apple online store.  I bought it because I use iDVD a lot and wanted to make sure that I can always reinstall it if necessary.

  • Does Migration Assistant copies all iTunes/iPhoto data to the new Mac?

I currently placed all my iphoto and itunes data on an external harddrive in my current setup. I have a MacMini 2010. Im planning to upgrade its HARDDRIVE with a smaller capacity but faster SSD.
So here goes my question... (the fact is, i haven't tried Migration Assistant ever, hence these troubling questions..)
I would keep my old harddrive intact as it used to be. I would install the SSD on the MacMini and do a clean install of OSX Lion which is also the current version of my OS in the old HARDDRIVE. I'm planning to attach the OLD HARDDRIVE using an HD enclosure and connect it using USB/Firewire externally. If i use, Migration Assistant to copy my settings and files in the OLD HARDDRIVE, will it also copy all my itunes/iphoto data into the new SSD? (music and photo data that are stored in an EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE right now) - meaning itunes and iphoto data folders are in an external hard drive.
I'm pretty sure it wouldn't fit. Im hoping itunes and iphoto would just LINK all those files as it used to be on my EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE and NOT COPY it to my small capacity SSD.
Do you get it? Please ask me if you don't. I just want to make sure a smooth transition to the new SSD if i push thru.

You can restore your iPod to "New" which will erase every thing and install fresh iOS software or you can restore to a particular backup that you have previously created. In this case, your iPod Apps & data will appear as per the backup. Note that some content is not in a backup and will need to be synced back to the iPad from the iTunes music library or from, for example, the iPhoto photo library.

  • Migrated iPhoto content to new MacBook Pro,  but can't get '11

    Hi there,
I migrated my iPhoto content from my old laptop to my new one, the new one has OSX 10.6.7, but somehow I seem to have migrated iPhoto v8.1.2 also. iPhoto '11 should be part of 10.6.7, right? iPhoto '11 cannot be found on my new computer, did one cancel the other?
My hubby did exactly the same thing, migrated his old iPhoto content to his new MacBook Pro and he has iPhoto '11. I have tried to download it but it seems that it's too big to download, it requires a physical disc. My computer came with the software already loaded.
If anyone can give me any pointers on how to fix this I'd be so grateful.
    Thanks,

How did you migrate the iPhoto content?
As to iPhoto version - iPhoto does not come with any OS - it comes on new computers and can be purchased as part of iLife or in the App store
reinstall iPhoto - go to your receipts folder ("Your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) and remove any iPhoto receipts and reinstall from the restore disks that came with your computer - do a custom install of bundled software only

  • Where do I send a long list of problems I have with non-functionality with the Lion OSX and new Safari for Lion.

In the past two weeks I have been documenting my Lion problems.
First, Arrows gone from finder windows; makes it difficult in comparing long lists of files in folder, or compare documents when reviewing line by line. This is obviously a change by people who do not compare long lists in windows comparing files between versions of projects ... the click to next screen is NOT equal to arrows.
Second, Finder Redreaw - doesn't. Move files to a fold, if there are a lot of files, they image of the files being moved remains in finder (see attached screen capture) until Finder is restarted and if COPY function is running. last files in Copy queue are not copied.
Screen capture 5 minutes after moving files to a folder - the selected file images are still in Finder after the move was completed.
Third, it is SLOW, particularly going to an "Attach file" in email, drawing the content of a folder to select an attachment is long enough for me to go to the kitchen, get a drink and come back. Just like the old days of OS7.
Fourth, shifting/recentering screen away from where I am working. Several programs, browsers, Adobe Photoshop/inDesign, and dear old Pages re center my screen - not to the center, but if I choose 30 of 70 images in a folder, it will shift … somewhere else in the folder instead of where I just clicked. If I am working on a document in inDesign or PhotoShop it will do the same - the cursor and screen drift elsewhere to find something it has been amused by. Sometimes it is a word, or a file, but often it is off the pastboard and on the etherial pasteboard on which the pages sit. Or if I'm zoomed in on an image, it moves to somewhere else.
I use a mouse and keyboard, both Apple wireless. I do not use a trackpad, but have a tablet/stylus I am afraid to put into the mix until this crap is stopped.
Fifth, SAVE AS… is gone. You must unlock, duplicate and edit the duplicate … and must rename it in Finder, or use EXPORT to save as the same format under a new name. SAVE AS… worked. Not broke, why fix it?
Personal Comment: The problems seem to be the triumph of coked up software engineers ooohing and aaahing over "Wouldn't it be cool if..."   Cool, if they were Microsoft, and required everyone change how they have worked on Macs for the past (almost) three decades. Triumph of brainstorming over functionality.
Sixth, I can't use Cocoa Booklet, but that really started in OSX 10.6 "Snow Leopard". Most of my X11/Cocoa programs stopped worked about that time. Apple is no longer supporting "open source"?
    But Wait! There's More...
Seventh, Tonight, trying to download a 1.7 gig archive onto a disk where 280 Gigs were supposedly free, it would not download because, according to the wonderful new Safari and the wonderful new Lion, there is not enough disk space to download a 1.7 gig file in a mere 280 Gigs of free space.
I might be able to move Snow Leopard onto the iMac, but my deciding factor was that Apple, in its wisdom, decided to make iBook Author unable to run under Snow Leopard. So moving to Snow Leopard means I have lost the ONLY benefit I get from the new computer and the new system.
    This really stinks.

  • I have iphoto '08 version with an imac osx 10.5.8. It will not read my RAW files  from my Nikon D800 - a very new model. How can I get it to read my RAW files?

my somewhat old imac osx 10.5.8 with iphoto '08 will not read my RAW files from my new Nikon D800 camera - a new model on the market( 5 months or so). How can I get iphoto to read my RAW  files?

iPhoto 08 would not read RAW files from that new a camera. You need to upgrade so you can get more up-to-date version of OS X and iPhoto. Another possiblity is see if iPhoto 11 will run on 10.5.8, if so you should update. You can also attempt to run Software Update and see if it finds a newer release of iPhoto 08 that supports newer RAW formats.

  • I'm new to Lightroom.  Struggling with downloading from iPhoto to Lightroom.  Pls help??

I have installed Lightroom@ on my mac.  Trying to import photos which are saved in iPhoto.  Have found your link which says I need to create a master copy and copy to my desktop, which I'm in the process of doing, but: (1) it says it will take 11 hours!  (2) do I have to do this every time I want to access recently added photos to iPhoto??  Basically, I'm trying to find the quickest and most efficient way to transfer my photos from iPhoto to lightroom.  Pls advise.  Thanks. Heidi

No, you do this one time only
By the way, if you're going to use Lightroom, you wouldn't add new photos to iPhoto, you import them into Lightroom.

  • HT4889 Migration Assistant to update my new Mountain Lion iMac from an external USB hard disk drive, it is constantly saying that it is "looking for other computers". It doesn't find the external drive. Why is it looking for other computers?

I'm trying to use Migration Assistant to update my new Mountain Lion iMac from an external USB hard disk drive. I told it to look for a drive, yet it is constantly saying that it is "looking for other computers". It doesn't find the external drive ... it just endlessly looks for other computers. Why is it looking for other computers at all, when I told it not to?

Wow, the wording in Migration Assistant is misleading. I've never used it before, so I thought I would try to copy my files from the external drive ... my old iMac died, but I managed to get everything I need off it, using the 'cp' command in single-user mode. So I guess I'll just have to manually copy the files from the external drive to the new machine. I was hoping that Migration Assistant might help somehow, but obviously not.
    Thanks for the quick reply!
