Migrating iPhoto6 to iPhoto8

When I migrated my old Mac system to new, the iPhoto6 library did not transfer to iPhoto8 I expect because it was using a referenced library. I have backed up the old iPhoto6 library and want to know how to transfer that library so that it transfers not only the photos but also the associated folder and album information. If I do a simple import from iPhoto 8 will it do that?
I looked at iPhoto Library Manager 3.4.2 but no where in the release notes do they yet reference being compatible with iPhoto8.
I searched the threads here but surprisingly, nothing on this topic.

Perhaps I am not using the correct term for my iPhoto6 library. I had put it on an external hard drive and not on the boot drive with the iPhoto application (is this a "referenced library"?).
No a referenced library is one where you ahve unchecked the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" so you are manageing the original photos not iPhoto - if that preference is checked (the default and recommended setting) then you have a managed library
So I'm still not sure if a simple import command from iPhoto8 will transfer ALL my old library info?
No you do not ever want to import an old iPhoto library into a new one - doing so will create many duplicates and lose keywords, albums, projects etc
If you are going to use your External Hard drive with your new mac simply connect it and launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and use the select library option to point to your existing iPhoto Library on your EHD - iPhoto will convert it to the new iPhoto '08 format so you will not be able to use it on your old iPhoto 6 system - so you probably should make a copy of it beofre converting it.
If you are not going to use your EHD but want your iPhoto library on your boot drive, connect your EHD and drag the iPhoto library from the pictures folder on your boot drive to the desktop and then drag the iPhoto library from the EHD to your pictures folder and launch iPhoto - it will convert the copy on your boot drive and you are on your way - if there is nothing in the library on your desktop trash it - if t has photos in it yo want then use iPhoto library manager to move them or open it and open the originals folder and drag the folders there to the iPhoto icon in the dock

  • Need help migrating photos (and hopefully album books) from iphoto6 to iPhoto '11

hello all and thanks in advance for your help !
Just purchased a new 21.5' iMac on Friday, and have been successfully moving data etc from my existing (5-year old) iMac running OS X (10.6.8) to my new iMac using an ethernet connection.
I now need to move our 12,000 photos from the old iMac, and it currently has iPhoto 6 (ver 6.0.6 (322)) on it. My wife created three large "album books" which we have not been able to order because we have iPhoto 6, and the books are no longer supported on iPhoto6. I didn't upgrade that computer to iPhone 9x which I believe does allow books because I knew we were going to get the new iMac.
So my question : is it possible to migrate the photos as well as the existing folders, albums, and especially the BOOKS to our new iMac ??  My wife REALLY doesn't want to recreate three years' worth of books !
Thanks in advance for your replies - Jeff

For the record - Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
Book have changed a lot since iPhoto 6 and may not convert well though

  • G4 iMac migrates to Intel Core Duo

I just migrated the contents of my 17” G4 iMac to a 20” Core Duo. The only piece of software that wouldn’t run on the new Mac was Nikon Capture 4.4.1; upon launching, it told me that it was missing necessary files. I reloaded the software from my original 4.0 discs. This time the error message said to click to go to PACE and run the installer, which I did. The installer claimed to run successfully, but NC4 still claimed to be missing files. At this point I went to the NikonUSA website and downloaded the NC4.2 updater. After running this and rebooting, NC4 ran just fine. I finally updated it back to V4.4.1, which also works properly.
Rosetta notwithstanding, compared to running NC4 on the G4, it’s much faster. Opening a D200 RAW file on the Core Duo is about as fast as opening a D2h file on the G4--not instantaneous, but reasonable at around 7 seconds. Same goes for edit files.
With 2 gigs of RAM on the Core Duo, NC doesn’t suck up all the memory, as it did on the 1 gig G4. No “page outs” when working on several RAW files at a time. This is much better performance than I had been expecting from it.
PSE3 work reasonably well, too. Faster than on the G4, at least.
While I was trying to get NC4 to work again, I did play around with iPhoto6. It seems very fast and has some interesting features, so I’ll probably start using it too.
All the included iLife6 programs seem to work well, and much faster than on the G4.
I had no problems with any peripherals except a very old USB CameraMate Compact Flash card reader, for which the OS X driver appears to no longer function. A no-name card reader I got for free from OMax works fine, though. So does my Epson 1650 flatbed ( I use PSE3 to access it), a QPS external firewire drive and an Epson 1270 printer. No problems with Wi-Fi or ethernet, either. When I plugged the ethernet cable fron the Core Duo into my Airport Extreme base, the computer automatically switched its settings from Airport to ethernet--neat!
This is the seventh Mac I’ve owned and the easiest migration so far. The improvements in performance and in the quality of the display greatly exceed my expectations.

  • Migration Assistant and User Names

I'm about to take delivery of a new Mac Pro to replace the G5. I intend to just migrate my user data and install all apps from scratch so they're all Intel where possible. However, from memory, when you get a new machine and switch it on for the first time, you have to set up a user before you're asked if you want to transfer data. If I use the user name I'm used to from the previous machine, it won't migrate a user with that same name. I know I can set up a dummy user, migrate my data then delete the dummy but is there another way?

I need help, and I'm definitely panicking. I need clear concise answers to things. I'm willing to try things on my own, but I don't want to keep getting deeper and deeper and it be spring, and I still haven't fully loaded my brand new i5 imac, and not be dong fun stuff. Between the flicker, migration assistant woes, and duplicate email issues, I'm 75% to being at 'wit's end' and taking the whole **** thing back.
I did not migrate when first using set-up asst, and registered same user name on new i5 as I have on macbook (or close enough, I thought caps were diffferent in one place, but apparently not). So... later, when I went to migrate, it asked for different user name. I 1) picked a slightly diff name, and 2) migrated every thing (apps, network, etc). approx 35 gigs & 90 minutes. I go to look, nothing's there, obviously, and I have exactly my old macbook on a new user name. I don't want this.
    a) how do I get everything I need/want from old macbook (iphoto/movies, docs, etc) to my ORIGINAL user acct on new i5?
a2) WHAT, exactly, of the 4 clickable buttons (user, apps, network, ?,) when I'm migrating, do I need to actually move?
    b) a friend said I can move these files/whatever to a shared folder from the addl user account to the original, then delete old one (or keep it as back up). Is this true?
b2) I moved one pic this way, and it works I had to ("authenticate"), but let's say I move the "picture" folder (which includes 4,000 pics) this way, will there be any problems? in other words, will the iphoto or pictures folder that migrated to the user name I did not want, 'merge,' or 'replace' (or something else?) the handful of iPhotos and files I already have on my original/proper user name? are there any issues w/ doing this? keep in mind, when the old iPhoto6 migrated from macbook to username I had to create on new 'puter, it was upgraded, after promp, to iPhoto9, which is fine; just want to make sure that will be fine, moving this way (as well as iMovie, everything else.). And I guess, I need to keep 'authenticating.'
    c) also, one of the 4 buttons when migrating is "user accounts." that's different than the 'user' folder? Please tell me which 4 buttons I need to have clicked when I migrate from a 4-yr old macbook w/ ilife06, to a brand new quadcore i5. and again, please explain what 'applications' are again. I used to know, but my head is so wrapped around all this BS now....
    d) can I just migrate again, but the proper stuff, TO my orginal user account on the new i5, or no?
    e) If I eventually get all my stuff - whichever way - to the one and original user, can I simply delete the other user from this 'puter?
Thanks for the help. Mac sellers REALLY should tell customers this, about doing it upon setting up. Or apple should simply rewrite the program to include just being able to do what you do at set up, anytime.

  • How to copy photos from g5 ipoto6 to macbook iphoto8

I want to copy my photographs, ratings and keywords from iphoto6 on the G5 PPC to my macbook running iphoto8. What would be ideal is to synchronise iphoto on both machines, but I am not sure If I have to upgrade IP6 to IP8 or not. I have a carbon copy clone of the G5 and time machine copies also.
I just don't know what to copy across can someone point me in the right direction please?

    tokyosky
Simply copy the iPhoto Library Folder from the Pictures Folder on the old machine to the same location on the New machine.
Then, in case of permissions issues: Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Pictures/Forum/BatChmod.png
(Credit to Old Toad for this one).
The launch iPhoto on the new machine. That's all.
What would be ideal is to synchronise iphoto on both machines
A v6 iPhoto will not open the later version's library format.

  • Importing iPhoto5 metadata into iPhoto6

Since I can't seem to find any specific information for my problem, I'm asking again...
I want to move my photos from my PowerBook (iPhoto5) to my shiny new MacMini (iPhoto6). The problem, and it's a big one, is that I can't figure out how to get the names, comments, etc. created/modified in iPhoto5 to migrate to iPhoto6. I certainly hope there's an easy way to move the photos, with their new metadata, to iPhoto6. The thought of losing all that additional data is unsettling!!
I was quite surprised to find that the file structure for iPhoto6 is so different than iPhoto5: no Albums folder, only Roll folders under the Years. It's quite disorienting. Apple software upgrades are usually so predictable, but, boy, I didn't see ANY of this coming.
    Any and all help appreciated...
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

All you need to do is copy the folder called "iPhoto library" from the old Mac to the new Mac. [Do not open it or take it apart.] Place it inside your Pictures folder in the new Mac. When you launch iPhoto 6 for the first time, iPhoto will tell you it needs to update the library, and that it will no longer be readable by older versions of iPhoto. Notice that you are NOT importing the library, nor do you want to Import it. You are simply copying it to a new location, then opening it from there.
Read Old Toad's tip in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=850145&tstart=50
Since you are moving from one Mac to another there could be a Permissions issue. Step 2 of his tip will take care of that. You do it after copying the iPhoto library folder to the new Mac, and before you launch iPhoto for the first time.
If you already had an iPhoto library on the new Mac, you can use iPhoto Library Manager to merge the 2 libraries. In that case, you'll have to rename one of your iPhoto library folders, so that the one you are moving doesn't overwrite the new one. If, however, you had used the Import command to import your library from the old Mac, it is probably better to trash the newer one and start over. Post back if you want more instructions.
[If you have more than one iPhoto library, you can launch iPhoto while holding the Option key. Choose Locate, and navigate to the location of the library you wish to open. iPhoto will use this library by default until you change it.]

  • Migrating 'Originals' to external drive

While I'm quite happy for iPhoto to keep original copies of my edited pictures (which is around 75% of them, by the way), I really don't want them clogging up my computer's HD. I'm perfectly happy with the edits I've done.
So, how do I migrate all the Originals of my edited pictures to eHDD in a way that iPhoto understands? And how do I control this in future, or would it have to be done manually at regular intervals?
(Summary : on my computer, I only want UNEDITED originals, plus EDITED pictures. The rest are redundant).

Tyranny? Really? What a load of codswallop. And perhaps you owe an apology to the people who actually suffer under tyranny.
Tiunes, I can edit a track (EQ, start/finish times, tags, etc)
Actually, no you can't edit a track in iTunes. It's not a Sound Editor. Changing the EQ does not edit the file, neither does changing the start/finish time etc. Really, you're comparison just collapsed there.
    (1) The comparison with analogue (film) negatives just doesn't work. With film, each time you move away from the negative you get noticeable degrading. You HAVE to retain the negative. With digital this just isn't the case. Even at average JPEG compression, you need to make several copies of copies of copies in order to see observable degradation.
Well, again that's just untrue. Edit a jpeg, save and you can lose up to a third of the data. Perhaps you don't see degradation, but many people do - especially when printing at large sizes.
    (2) If I have such a thing as a "digital negative", it's the SD card in my camera. That's where all the actual originals are. Sure, some people choose to delete images from them, but at £15 for 4GB (2000+ images), it's infinitely cheaper than film and I will just replace the card when it's full, keeping all my "negatives", and only deleting bad pictures.
That's how you choose to store your Originals. It's an unusual way of working but that's your right. However, again, your example makes no sense. When you import the image to iPhoto a byte-by-byte copy of the file is made. It's identical to what's on your card in every respect.
Any change made in iPhoto can be reversed later, if I don't like my edit, by simply adjusting the sliders in the opposite direction. But I've never had to do this yet!!
Again, a really poor example. If you do reverse the sliders and save you are not returning to the Original with iPhoto6. When you save in this scenario you'll lose another third of the file size an be two generations away from the original. You can return to the Original with the Revert to Original command - and for that you need... the Original.
And while you may be a "grown-up" there's nothing particularly adult about equating your misunderstanding of the software with "tyranny". There's also nothing particularly adult about your comprehension - I told you in the first post you can change to a Referenced Library - (some tyranny that! Imagine, a choice in tyranny? Whatever next!) - though I do not recommend it, but the choice is there.
If you really want to act like a grown up, why not do the adult thing? Find a piece of software that works the way you want. Perhaps you need to work on your searching skills.
s there any reason why I should not drag the images from the Originals folders, convert them to thumbnail size in Photoshop, then simply overwrite the files back to the Originals folder? They will then take up much less space, but as far as iPhoto is concerned, they will have the same name, so the change should be transparent. This could work?
They're your photos, you're free to ruin them in any way you want.

  • How can I Migrate/Split itunes/icloud account for a large family now that they have family sharing

Ok, now that Apple has finally come out with family sharing I need to get things sorted out and I think it is going to be a mess. I have 6 family members (my spouse and 4 children) all sharing/using one itunes account. For parental reasons this made perfect sense. Now with the the advent of family sharing and such we have alot of sorting and migrating to do and I am very unsure how to go about it. Here is what we have.
    Myself - I have a 64GB iPad 3 and a 64GB iPhone 5
    Spouse - 64GB iPhone 5
    Children - x4 16GB iPhone 5C (pink, blue, green, and a yellow)
We have had one itunes account now for several years, we used to have x4 16GB iphone 4's and a 16GB iPod touch 4 so we needed it to be shared at the time. We all have different Game Center ID's and Facetime/iMessages are all setup to the phone numbers (aside from mine which also uses the itunes e-mail). We currently have 1 upgraded icloud account with 200GB of storage on it (love the new tiers). So here are the questions.
    1) How do I go about using and isolating all the devices so they can all use the iCloud storage? Right now if I try and setup backups by device under the what to backup there is no simple "Full Backup" option, they have all the categories separated. I cannot backup my daughters contacts without forcing a merging of them and so on. Same thing with Documents and Data. Would I need to setup a different iCloud account for each device now?
    2) iTunes Music/App purchases. Now that they have a family sharing function I am assuming it would be a good time to separate all the devices (aside from my personal iPad/iPhone). If I understand correctly we need to setup a new itunes account for each and link them with family sharing, does this then allow us to disperse/move items from a singular to the multiple account (at least a one time option to move around) or would it simply be shared off the original account? My daughter for example will be 18 next summer and as such no longer under our care. How do we move her items to her account? She has a lot of purchased Music. Now keep in mind I am talking about an account for someone who was 12 when she had her first device and as such needed to be under her parents.
I just want to state that repurchasing things is NOT an option, and to be frank,  according to Canadian laws pertaining to *licensing* we actually own the product if we paid for it and have the right to transfer the ownership thereof. This issue went through the courts regarding used copies of OEM editions of Microsoft Windows several years ago and they closed the legal *license* vs ownership separation.

Go to appleid.apple.com to manage the ID, sign in and select to the Name, ID and Email Addresses section, then change the birth date on the bottom right.  At the present time you may not be able to enter the correct birth date, but others have had success changing the year to 2000, or the date to 1/1/2001, both of which will have child ID status.

  • Migrating open POs and GR/IR clearing account balance

    Hello gurus,
I've got the following problem concerning migration of open POs:
For example: In my source system there is a PO for 10 pcs. of some material. There has been a goods receipt for 5 pcs. (200$ each).
Now, when I import this order and the corresponding purchase order history into my target system (using LSMW), the target system creates the order, a material document for 5 pcs. and an account document.
But of course, our FI-team also has to migrate the balance of the 'old' GR/IR clearing account.
So, the balance in the source system is <> 0 (e.g. 1000$), because the 5 pcs. have been delivered but there has been no invoice receipt yet.
This balance is imported into the new system and then the open orders are migrated, generating an account document and thus, the balance is 2000$ afterwards.
This obviously is not correct, so I am sure that I am missing something, just what?
    Thanks
    Alicia

    Hi,
    1. There will be an open PO uploaded for 5 qty and price 200$ each
    2. Opening Balance of Material - 5 qty and corresponding value to Stock A/c - 1000$
    3. Also there will be Vendor Balances uploaded in the system as 1000$ against the invoice. (If the invoice is still expected then chec with FI Users if they can get invoice form vendor)
if no then do not upload initial stock entry of step2, create a PO of 10 qty and then do GR in system (SAP).

  • [Migrating from 6i to 11G] HTML viewer

    Hi,
There used to be a program to display the output of a report in 6i. When the report was displayed, it used page breaks (ESC characters) to allow the user to view the next page and print a range of pages from a report.
In 11G, these control characters are not interpreted by Internet Explorer:
    >
    height 85
    width 94
before report esc "&l%%0O" esc "&l8D" esc "(s12H"
    after report esc "E"
    after page control(L)
    [End Quote]
So how could I migrate the printer definition files in order to get after page control in 11G?
    Many thanks for your help.

As my old college profession used to say - "The only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked!" Forms 11g only supports web deployment. This means you will need the OAS with the Forms and Reports Services installed as well. Typically, the setup is three tiered ( 1 server = Database, 1 server = Application Server, 1 server = Infrastructure server ). You don't have to set up the technology stack multitiered - all three could reside on the same server or you could have the all three on the same machine but is not recommended. I would at least have the database on a server seperate from OAS.
Here are a few links to get you started.
    Oracle Documentation
    * Check out: Development Tools - Oracle Forms, Middleware - Applications Server - Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g and Middleware - Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence - Oracle Reports
Since you will be upgrading from Forms 6i to 11g, be sure to visit the Oracle Forms-Upgrading Forms 6i to Forms 11g documentation.
    BTW, welcome to the forums!

See Pondini's  Transferring files from one User Account to another, for starters

  • Duplicate user account OR migrate iPhoto/iWeb between users

I've seen this question asked several times before, but have not seen an answer!
So, with as many details as I can muster:
I have, on my computer, 4 user accounts: my admin account, my user account, my boyfriend's user account, and our business account... All separate, keeps things nice and tidy (sort of!).
I have a new and separate project that I'm starting to work on which involves lots of images, and new websites, and new and different stuff that's necessary for the project, but just clutter in any of the other accounts.
Because this project started out as something my man wanted to play around with, all of the beginnings of this are in his iPhoto and his iWeb, and they're well organized.  I've not had luck so far moving the iPhoto and iWeb libraries to a new/blank user and maintaining the organization that I've spent time and attention making right.
He's not so great with technology, and gets very frustrated (and unproductive!) when anything on the computer doesn't work exactly like he expects it to. (When Lion came out and the scrolling went "the wrong direction" he was afraid to use the computer at all for a week, because "everything changed, I don't even know how to use it anymore" that's between us though, personal issure ). So I'd like to keep the user experience the same for him.   I'd like to duplicate his settings, preferences, etc. into a new user for him, and take over his current account to isolate this project.
    So, in summary:
I want to create a new account with the same user experience  as a current  account without having to find and reset all of his settings.
    OR
I want an exact copy of the iPhoto and iWeb from this user account to another one, on the same machine.
    I am currently running OSX 10.7.2, iPhoto '11 9.2.1 and iWeb 3.0.4
Thanks in advance for any help!

That's easy, if you have Time Machine or "bootable clone" backups. (If you don't, you should anyway.  Post back if you need info on them.)
Use Migration Assistant to transfer just that user account from the backups; it will put up a screen saying it can't transfer it under the same name as the existing account, and allowing you to rename it.
Other than having a different name, the transferred account will be identical to the existing one.  Then you can modifiy them separately as necessary.
EDIT:  see Using Migration Assistant on Lion for detailed instructions.  Be sure to un-check the boxes for eveything except that one user account.
