  • Migrated CS6 from my desktop to laptop since old one's motherboard died and AE can't find Bridge

Do I really need to reinstall everything or just Bridge?  And when I open Bridge separately, it crashes trying to open application folder.

While I hope GarenT can assist you, I did want to mention that the heat issue is not - to my knowledge - a problem with one particular notebook, but more a problem with notebooks in general.  You have all the same stuff that you put in a desktop in a much smaller amount of space, often used on laps and in warm environments for long periods of time.  To keep your other notebook from having heat-related issues, please make sure to ALWAYS use a cooling pad with it, preferably with a gap between the bottom of your notebook and the fans from the cooling pad, with the fans on.

  • I can't read my eBooks I purchase from iTunes on my desktop or laptop.  Do I need to go Amazon?  Kindle?

Is there a future upgrade or availability to read eBooks purchased from iTunes on my desktop or laptop Mac?
If not, I am just going to get the free Kindle application and buy all of my ebooks from Amazon as I can read them on any Mac.
I purchased a book from Apple yesterday so that I could read it as a break during my work day at my office and it would not open.  I checked and sure enough, you can't read books on your desktop Mac using Apple software.  I tried the Adobe Digital software and a couple of others but the protection on the ebook prevented anything but my iPad or, if I had one, iPhone from reading it.
Considering that I spent many thousands on getting the best Macs for work and only hundreds on the pad, it is just a little irritating that I can't read a book on the pro machinery but can on the consumer toy.

We don't know what Apple plans on doing to change this (and it may not be just Apple but more likely the publishers, since Apple would, of course, do whatever it could to maximize sales/profits).  Right now you can only read Apple books on mobile devices. Sure, buy them from Amazon if you want to read them on the computer. We don't work for Apple so we're pretty impartial on this kind of advice.
You might also see what your library can offer.  My wife can browse the county library from her iPhone, borrow e-versions, and read books on it too.  Free!

  • Transfering songs from old desktop to laptop

I just purchased a laptop and had a data transfer done from old desktop to laptop which included my itunes files. I know where the files are located, however when I try to import the songs, I locate the files which are organized by artist and when I click on the open button, nothing happens. Is there a way to transfer songs on my ipod to my itunes account on the laptop, or am I going to have to do it another way. PLease help!!!!

"Is there a way to transfer songs on my ipod to my itunes account on the laptop"
You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, the transfer of purchased content has recently been introduced with iTunes 7. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

  • I have installed FCE on my macbook and on my desktop. Then I accidentally migrated FCE from the desktop to the macbook. Now each time I launch FCE on the macbook it asks for the product serial number. How can I stop this happening?

I installed Final Cut Epxress 4 on my laptop and my macbook and then accidentally also migrated FCE from the desktop to the macbook. Now each time I launch FCE on the macbook it asks for the software serial number. I enter the number which is then rejetced as it's already been used twice. FCE launches anyway as the licence info had already been written to my hard drive when I first installed FCE. How can I stop it asking for the serial nmber every time I open FCE?

You need to uninstall FCE from you Macbook and then reinstall it.
If you are not familiar with the process, FCS Remover is an app that can uninstall FCE for you.

    Hey Gingernut03,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! So it sounds like the same type of thing is happening to both iTunes and iCloud. Check out the following iTunes article and see if that resolves the issue with both services:

  • Why can I login to iTunes from my phone with no problem, but I can't login to iTunes from my desktop.

Why can I login to iTunes from my phone with no problem, but I can't login to iTunes from my desktop using the same login credentials. I can use a different appleID and login to itunes with no problem.

Thanks for your reply.  I mean that only when all of my music in the cloud is shown on my phone can I delete the music stored on my phone.  I should be able to delete music that is stored on my phone when I can view ONLY the music that is taking up the phone's memory.

  • Migration from office desktop to laptop. . .

I have received a used MacBook Pro.  I would like to migrate my office computer to my laptop so that when I travel I will have everything on my laptop to use.  I will still use my office desktop unit and I understand changes will have to made to my laptop as I make updates on my office computer.  I was just wondering the legality of iTunes, programs etc. that I transfer over.  Of course I will never be using both computers at the same time.
    Any suggestions?

There are no legal issues with using iTunes on both computers. Applicstions for Windows do not work on Macs and vice-versa, so there is no legal issue having Office for Windows and Office for OS X as you would have to purchase each separately (or at least for the Mac.)
This article will help you with migrating your iTunes library: MacWorld - Move an iTunes library from a Windows PC to a Mac. If you save your Office for Windows documents in a format compatible with Office for OS X, then you can copy them to the Mac using a USB flash drive. Office 2011 for OS X can read and save documents in .docx format.

  • Transferring itunes from old desktop to new laptop

painstakingly ollowed instructions on how to use ipod mini as hard drive, but found out none of my music tranferred. i have access to my old itunes - can i transfer directly from desktop to laptop? thx.

    Hi there,
As i remember it Apple's answer is not insane.
Music sync'd to an iPod using iTunes doesnt show up as files (they're 'invisible'). As I remember it is only files that you hand copy to the mounted hard disk that do show up.
If that's true then to see no music files after an iTunes sync is normal. Problem is the usual utilities wont allow you to transfer the 'invisible' music up onto your new PC.
1/ Make sure music is transferred in 'hard disk mode' and if it doesnt then show up then it isnt copied.
2/ Use one of the un-usual utilities which circumvent Apple's attempt to prevent copying of music from iPod to a computer. E.g. http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/

  • Moving iTunes from a desktop pc to a laptop

Can anyone suggest the easiest way of me moving my iTunes library from my desktop pc to my new laptop without loosing the music on my iPod or my music in iTunes?

I had to do this about a year ago because I got a new laptop for college. What I did was create a back up of your itunes on the first computer (you can search for the itunes back up instructions on here...they were fairly simple for me to find). Then you load that back-up onto your 2nd computer. And the upside of this is that you have a back-up just in case your new computer crashes for some reason.
    good luck!

  • Best way to migrate itunes from pc

I tried migartion assistant to migrate Itunes songs. The songs transfered toMacintosh/users/shared/files from "e"/itunes/music/music , but nothing shows up in the itunes library. Any ideas?

The iTunes library should have been transferred to your iTunes Library on your Mac, which would normally be located in your Macintosh/users/yourusername/Music/iTunes folder.
However it appears the files were copied instead to Macintosh/users/shared/files, which iTunes would not look for unless you specifically point iTunes to that location.  Because your folder naming is not the typical iTunes folder, I suspect you may have just gotten the files and not the iTunes folder.
If nothing shows up in iTunes on your Mac, the first thing I would try is this:
In iTunes, do File > Add To Library, navigate to your Macintosh/users/shared/files folder and if all your songs are there, select one or more of the folders and then iTunes should start importing them into your iTunes Library on your Mac.  After you are done importing you can (should) delete the files in Macintosh/users/shared/files because at that point they would just be unused duplicates of what is now in your iTunes Library.
