Migrating iTunes from Power Mac G5 to Mac Pro

Alright, so going from an old PowerMac G5 too a Mac Pro, I've avoided using migration for anything in hopes to keep the new system as virgin as possible. I've not really missed a beat having backed up most important files to an ext. HD.... including my iTunes folder.
It has not seemed as convenient to just copy the music folder into the "itunes/media" folder to rebuild my music library. I beginning to wonder if I should just use "migration" to get back on track with my iTunes, considering my account info stuff, playlists, etc.
I am still only slightly concerned because I was running OS 10.5.8 on the previous and now running 10.6.2. I don't want to, if it would, revert back to an older version of itunes. Would this be a set-back or a quick update fix away, once migrated.
Would you recommend migrating the old iTunes or trying to more or less drag/copy media into the new one? If so, how to go about doing this, without manually "opening" each file/song so it imports into the itunes library?

Just copy \Music\iTunes\ folder from the old computer to \Music\ on the new computer.

I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out.
I have a Power Mac G4 that runs OS X 10.2.8. I just got an iMac Intel that runs 10.5.2. Both machines have firewire ports but when I have them connected and try to turn on my G4 while holding down the "T" key, the G4 starts to boot up--then it shuts down.
Does anyone have any idea why this keeps happening? Or, alternatively, is there a way for me to transfer files from my G4 to my iMac without using firewire or a flash drive?

Click here for information; the position of the hard drive on the G4's ATA bus needs to be changed. If it is a SCSI drive, FireWire Target Disk mode cannot be used and the items need to be migrated by hand or the drive placed in an enclosure.

First step, of course, is to plug your iPhone into your Macbooks Air. Then, you need to set up syncing how you want it in iTunes (on the MBA). If you want to be able to drag and drop music, select "manually manage music" on the Summary pane in iTunes.

Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive. Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes. At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.

nope all my songs are copied and organized into the iTunes library.

Well, I see a few things that can be in the way:
1. MAC address filtering is really not a security measure since the MAC addresses are sent in the clear (unencrypted) and many devices can have their MAC addresses changed easily with software. I'd recommend losing the MAC filtering and just use WPA2 and be even more secure than you are currently.
2. If you disabled the firewalls during the install, that may have been a bad thing. The installer is supposed to create ports through the firewalls during install, so if they are disabled and later enabled, the ports are not there.
3. Does your printer show up if you type its IP into a browser?

I recently changed from a Mac Pro to an iMac. A large chunk of emails have disappeared. Time Machine is no help. Any ideas as to how I can get them back?

I recently changed from a Mac Pro to an iMac. Despite using Migration Assistant, a large chunk of my recent emails and nearly all of my wife's emails have disappeared in transit. Strangely, emails from my distant past are still there. Time Machine is no help; the messages may be on my backup disc but they're behind an invisible icon. Any ideas as to how I can get them back?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

Just transferred data to iMac from working Mac Pro that is using Parallels and Windows 7 and the Biblesoft 5 and it will not open on the iMac the only change is the my new iPhone number is OS. Any ideas?

Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant do not restore MS Windows, it only does the OS X partition. All of your Windows stuff must be backed up and restore using a MS Windows application. If no one on this forum is able to answer your question then I'd repost it on a Parallels forum to see how other Windows users approach this.

I have replaced the older Power Mac Pro G5 with a new Mac Pro in 2010, I don't have a know use for the old Mac Pro, any suggestions? Can I sell it? or use it in some creative way, I also have a Macbook Pro which I use while traveling, to keep up on my iPhoto 7 iMovie hobby, I am organizing over 100,000 photos from my family and many travels and am producing both movies for my family and picture books.
