Migrating iTunes from removed G4 HD to new Snow Leopard MacBook Pro...

I have set up a MBP with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 installed. I have a removed G4 HD from my Powerbook 1.67GHz former Mac. The SL does not yet have iTunes installed on the new software
Since ALL my former music is on the G4 HD, what is the best way for me to transfer it over so as not to lose that music. Do I set up the iTunes first on the SL site or just transfer it over from the G4(I guess Migration Assistant) ?
Also of note; before I installed the SL on the MBP(it was a used one and had a previous iTunes-also not set up on it), I backed up the entire HD which was Leopard 10.5.7, then erased it before the SL installation. I have that on a Time Machine backup on an external WD HD.
What is the preferred way to do this, in order of sequences ?
Really NEED to get this right the first time so I don't lose all that music...
Thanks for your help

Download iTunes and install - it is only the app - the real stuff is in the iTunes folder. Once you have moved the the iTunes Folder and open iTunes - if it is a newer version - it will take sometime to update the iTunes Lbrary - be patient.
Migration Assistant is a good option if using computer to computer. If not then an ext HD case with FW is best - IMHO.

  • Migrate from snow leopard (macbook pro) back to Leopard (powerbook) ???

My powerbook g4 (tiger) started with the kernel warnings--got a macbook pro.  Luckily I was able to pull the hard drive out of the powerbook and use an external firewire enclosure to transfer everything on to the macbook pro.  Put a new hard drive into the powerbook and loaded leopard, but the old hard drive in the external enclosure now doesn't want to work.  Can I transfer all those powerbook files (now on the macbook pro) back to the powerbook with the new drive via firewire or migration?  Or does going backward from snow leopard to the powerbook with leopard create issues???

PowerPC architecture and Intel architecture are different and are not backwards compatible. If you transfer files by Target Disk Mode that will work but you cannot take a clone of 10.6 as a bootable volume and transfer it back two OSX versions and one incompatible architecture.

  • Migrating mail from Powerbook G4 (Tiger) to iMac (Snow Leopard)

Hello. I'm new to the forum and not tech savvy, so hope that you'll bear with me.
I've recently installed Snow Leopard on my iMac and now wish to transfer all the e-mail on my old Powerbook G4 (Tiger) to the iMac.
Any pointers on how I should go about this would be much appreciated.

  • Cannot install iTunes 10.7 on snow leopard MacBook Pro.

I have received my new iPhone 5 two weeks ago but I am unable to use it since I cannot install iTunes 10.7. I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.6 (snow leopard) and 2GB RAM. I have been trying to install it and every time I get an error message saying that the disk could not be verified. I tried skipping verification and again it would allow me installing. Furthermore, I am trying to do my recommended software updates (including one about security) and my mac never succeeds. I am just wondering if that could be the problem.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
    Thank you!

Try updating using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple website:

  • Sync times off by 5hrs with new snow leopard macbook.

Just got new macbook and now when I sync with iphone from entourage 2004 via ical, times in iphone and ical appear 5hrs ahead. Was at Genius bar today, and Genius said there was some known problem with clock when jumping from tiger system to snow leopard, but I had to leave before we finished and apparently she never reset some kind of clock....Anybody know how/what she was talking about?

Mac OS X doesn't come with iLife applications, so you have to install them manually after installing Mac OS X.
Insert the Applications disc or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 DVD and install iLfe applications. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest update. If you want, you can purchase iMovie, GarageBand and iPhoto in the App Store, so you will get the most recent version

  • From old PC ipod to new IPT and Macbook Pro

I have and old ipod whose itunes is on my parents old PC. I recently got a new macbook and ipod touch and now I need to get all of my songs from the old PC ipod to the new ipod touch via the new macbook. How is this possible!?

    You have multiple options:
    1. Put the Library on portable hard drive
    2. Burn the library to DVD(s)
    3. Use a big memory stick
    4. Set iTunes to not sync, plug in your old iPod and set it for disk mode. Copy the files to your iTunes library.
    5. Google Pod to Mac and download the freeware program that will copy your files from your iPod to the Mac.

Can't help with the iTunes thing, since I don't have a PC to muck with. However, once you sort this issue out, see these, and welcome to Mac land:

  • How can I copy songs with metadata (added in iTunes) from my PC to my new iMac?

I have iTunes 12.0.1 on my Windows PC. I'm about to get a new iMac (hooray!) and I'm beginning the process of transferring everything on my PC to my Mac. I've got all the documents, pictures, files, etc. covered, but now I have to make a copy of all of my music.
Most of the music in my iTunes library is not bought through the iTunes Store (I download most of my songs from the Internet). Then, after saving the downloaded song to my computer, I go into iTunes on my computer and add the song. I also add metadata like artist, album, genre, album artwork, etc. to the song in iTunes. What concerns me is that only the songs in iTunes have this metadata: the original downloaded files I saved onto my computer don't have any metadata.
I really don't want to have to go through the long and tedious process of adding artist/album names, genre, etc. to every single song in my iTunes library on my new iMac. How can I copy songs with metadata (added in iTunes) from my PC to my new iMac?
Thank you so much for any help!

Hello! I'd like to learn more about Home Sharing. To do this, would both my PC (which I hope to get rid of) and my new iMac need to be plugged in?
Also, after Home Sharing with the old PC is initiated, I understand that all my songs would appear on my iMac. Is there a way to copy all of these (with album artwork, name, artist, etc.) directly to the iMac's hard drive and then disconnect home sharing so I can get rid of my PC?
    Thank you!

  • I synced iTunes from my computer to a new iPad. All of my purchases appear and are listed as downloaded, but none of the will play. Any ideas?

I synced iTunes from my computer to a new iPad. My purchased music appears as normal in the list and is designated as downloaded, but none of it will play.  Any ideas of what I can do?

try resetting the device by holding down the home and sleep key, past the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and see if that helps.
Also, try finding a free app, any free app, download it on your ipad then see if that gets your others to work. You can delete the free app if it works (or if it doesn't for that matter)

  • HT1349 I want to transfer my itunes from my ipad to my new computer...how do I do this?

How can I transfer my itunes from my iPad to my new computer?????

You can copy iTunes purchases from the iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. For music purchased from other stores or copied from your CDs you can either copy them onto your new computer from your old computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527) or backup, or you will need to find a third-party program that can copy them off the iPad
