Migrating Keyboard Shortcuts

I have custom keyboard shortcuts in CS6 which I use with my Wacom Tablet.
Is there any way I now can migrate them to my new CC version, or do I have to re-enter them all manually?
Any gudance appreciated.

The suggestion to look on the Adobe site lead to the solution. This is the best answer from Adobe:
Solution 1: Bypass the keys' default OS-level commands.
Note: Use this solution only if your keyboard has a key labeled Fn.
To make Mac OS interpret F1, F2, and so forth as function keys instead of as OS-level command keys, hold down the Fn key when you press a function key. For example, in an Adobe application that uses F1 as a keyboard shortcut, hold down Fn and press F1.
You can also make Mac OS interpret F1, F2, and so forth as function keys by default. (If you do so, then you can still perform those keys' OS-level commands by holding the Fn key when you press them.) If you want to make this change, then do the following:
1. Choose Apple Menu > System Preferences.
2. Click Keyboard & Mouse.
3. Click the Keyboard tab.
4. Select the option Use All F1, F2, Etc. Keys As Standard Function Keys.
5. Quit System Preferences.

  • How can I delete words from the "Replace list" on my Mac without deleting them in "Keyboard Shortcuts" on my iPhone?

I have scoured the internet but I have not been able to find a solution for this issue. It seems my "Replace list" and "with list", or "Keyboard Shortcuts" as it's called on the iPhone (Where to find it on a Mac ; Where to find it on an iPhone) migrated from my iPhone (iOS 8.1.2) to my Macbook (OSX Yosemite 10.10.1) when I logged in with my iCloud account.
I really, really don't want this feature on my computer but I do want it on my phone. However, whenever I delete words on my computer they get deleted from my phone and vice versa. Is there any way to disable this on my computer? This is what my settings look like now:
It seems like other people must not be bothered by this since I can't find anything about it online... but it's driving me nuts. And I've disabled autocorrect in my settings and for the programs I use but it happens no matter what. Is the only solution to this logging my computer out of my iCloud account? I can't believe there is no other way around this...
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi,
Of the items you have left in iCloud that are syncing the "Notes" one might be the most logical.
In some cases items in Accessibility can effects things like this but I see no obvious candidates.

  • Fix for System Preferences Keyboard Shortcuts crash

This is not a question, but a solution to a problem that proved difficult to identify and fix for me and three Apple Support personnel, so I thought I should post it here in case others encounter the same issue. I spent a lot of time searching the web and Apple Discussions for this and related issues did not come up with any solutions.
After migrating from Snow Leopard on 2009 MacBook Pro to Yosemite on a new MBP using the Migration Assistant, things went surprisingly smoothly for the most part, until I opened the Keyboard pane of System Preferences. Then, clicking on the Shortcuts tab immediately caused System Preferences to crash, reproducibly.
Crash Reporter pointed loosely to a keyboard-related preference setting. But "com.apple.preference.keyboard" is the name of an OS process, not a .plist file. I searched the web to try to find out where Keyboard Shortcut settings are stored in Yosemite, and also for a possible way to reset the settings to default in Terminal (e.g. using the "defaults" routine), without success. (Apple Support was not happy that I had Terminal open when they shared my screen, and seemed never to have heard of this routine).
    Process:               System Preferences [948]
    Application Specific Information:
    objc_msgSend() selector name: retain
    com.apple.preference.keyboard v.14.0 (Keyboard)
objc[948]: GC: forcing GC OFF because OBJC_DISABLE_GC is set
Repairing disk permissions, rebooting in Safe Mode, zapping the PRAM, and trashing ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences, some keyboard-related .plist files, and the system prefs and International prefs caches did not fix the problem. With Apple Support, we isolated the problem to my user account, as the same crash did not occur in a test account, or in another account migrated at the same time. Nevertheless, Apple's techs had me removing various menu items and programs also running in these accounts that I had deactivated (Sophos AntiVirus, Little Snitch, etc), and downloading and reinstalling Yosemite, which seemed unlikely to address the cause, given that my main user account was the only one affected.
Apple never had me check 3rd party preference panes (which I should have thought to do earlier myself). Opening and closing an older version of Default App ((RCDefaultApp 2.0.1), a free 3rd party utility, in the Preferences pane, transiently solved the problem. However, it recurred on removing it, and was not fixed by installing the latest release of this preference pane, nor did removing three other 3rd party preferences panes (MacFUSE, a Citrix app, and Flash Player).
Finally I went back to ~/Library/Preferences and looked for any files that had been modified around the time the problem transiently disappeared, and stumbled upon com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist. After viewing its contents with Property List Editor and finding this article, I thought that this file was likely the problem.
I logged into my root account, verified that Shortcuts worked fine there, and that this file changed with a change in Shortcut settings, and (after renaming the offender to save it as a backup), replaced the file in my main user account with a copy of the one from the root account.
I repaired permissions in the offending account, rebooted, and voilà - problem solved!
NB If you are in a similar situation, before trying this fix (at your own risk!), I strongly advise backing up your computer first, and saving a copy of the presumed offending file in case you have to put it back because of unforeseen consequences. You do not need to enable and use the root account; instead you could log in to a new administrator account, or another user account, verify that Shortcuts works fine there (it would not be a bad idea to set up any user-defined App Shortcuts you want there); and copy the file to a shared folder.
Then switch back into the offending account, go to your user Library/Preferences folder (~/Library/Preferences using Go To Folder in Finder), and replace com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist in that account with the one from the shared folder. You should then repair disk permissions afterwards and restart.
If it works, Shortcuts should open fine. Be sure to check each category  in the left-hand panel of the Shortcuts panel (e.g. LaunchPad & Dock, Mission Control, etc.) for conflicts, and resolve those by disabling the offending duplicate key combination assignments (I had two, marked by yellow triangle alerts).

    Thanks, V.K., for your comments.

not for me. it's both displayed and treated differently. I suspect what you are seeing is a byproduct of using a haxie such as Menu Master.
no it's not. it's treated differently.
In Leopard, Menu Master let me assign Command+Enter to Address Book > Edit Card. When I attempt the same using Keyboard Shortcuts, both Command+Return and Command+Enter are displayed as Command plus a "return arrow." After that, in Address Book, both Command+Return and Command+Enter invoke the "Edit Card" menu action.
    not for me.
if you want to use those keys in the shortcuts use one of the many 3rd party app launchers. any one of them will let you do this: Qucisilver, Butler, Spark, Launchbar, ikeys, quickeys etc.
I've been using QuicKeys since the beginning of time, and I have some experience with Butler and LaunchBar. They're useful for what they do. But, as far as I know, none add keyboard shortcuts that are displayed directly in the menus. That display feature is what makes Menu Master and Systems Prefs > Keyboard Shortcuts so attractive.
that's because Menu Master is a haxie. none of the other programs mentioned are. you want such functionality you are going have to use a haxie. personally - i stay away from them as they destabilize the system.
When I'm considering new shortcuts, I use KeyCue to display all current shortcuts in a single display. KeyCue now displays QuicKeys shortcuts in the same display, which is a big help.

  • Keyboard shortcuts CS5 differ from CS4.

    Hello all,
Im used to work on a mac, but in my new job i have to use both the PC and MAC. Now im used to CS4 and i just migrated to CS5. Now most shortcuts im used to dont work, wich is a real pain. I completely rely on them for i sometimes dont even know where to find them in the menus.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

I have begun working in a school, helping students with shop illu and indy. They gave me a Dell, it will have to do. The students work on dell pc's or brand new macs, or on there own laptops. Most problems are solved, so i will remap the functions that need fixing. I would like to reply in the thread but im at home now and although im signed in, i cant respond, can only report abuse. I shall wander over to the photoshop section and ask there about my other questions.
Thanks again all, for the quick response.

    What brand of Laptop?
This certainly does sound like the mapping problem I mentioned. You can fix all the shorcuts that use the enter key by making a new set and adding the numpad enter as a second option, but that isn't going to help with other shortcuts that use numpad keys (though the only ones that likely would affect are style shortcuts, for which the numlock must be on -- others you can use the regular keys for those functions and just change the habits you may have developed about the numpad keys).
I'm not sure what's going on in Photoshop. You should probably ask over there if anyone knows of similar issues related to keyboard mappings. And just maybe you should try a different brand of laptop...

  • Import or Move Keyboard Shortcuts Etc. to CS4?

Is there a way to import or move my keyboard shortcuts from CS3 to CS4? What about layout settings etc.?
    Thanks

I have migrated my keyboard settings from PPro2 to CS4 and CS5.
    From PPro 2 (XP) to CS4/5 (Win 7 64)
    copy file:
    C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusername*\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\2.0\*yourprefs.kys*
    to:
    C:\Users\*yourusername*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0\*yourprefs.kys*
    or
    C:\Users\*yourusername*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\5.0\*yourprefs.kys*
Run Premiere, select: Edit/Keyboard Customization/ and your key settings
should appear in the Set: dropdown menu.
I have not found a way to migrate layout settings.

  • Transferring keyboard shortcuts between Mac and Windows

I need to migrate users from Mac (CS 5.5) to Windows 7 (CS 6). I have tried to transfer a user's custom keyboard shortcut set by copying the .indk file to the appropriate folder on the PC, and although it shows up in the list, when I try to select the set I get an error saying it is in the wrong format or the file could be damaged. Is there a way of transferring keyboard shortcuts between Mac and Windows?

Shortcut sets seem to be human-readable text files, so you could try making a copy and doing some editing, changing cmd to ctrl and opt to alt, and change the platform value in the first line to "win" though I can't make any promise it will work.
There are also some known problems trying to migrate legacy sets into newer versions of ID since CS5, I think.

  • Keyboard shortcuts not working while mouse over title-bar

most of the time, while mouse is over the top title bar, keyboard shortcuts (like Ctrl+W, Ctrl+T, Alt+D) are not working.
This is a strange behaviour that happens only after i migrated to linux (ubuntu 10.10)
Sometimes, after i try the shortcuts a few times, on middle of the screen also, then suddenly it works also when the mouse is on the title bar. It's pretty strange...

Well, that's not the case here.
I tried to focus on text field, and the keyboard shortcuts does work, so that's obviously not the case here.
Sometimes the address bar is selected and i can write there, but when the mouse go over the top title, it suddenly stops reacting.
And the Alt+D and Ctrl+T are not working doesn't matter if a text field is selected.
BTW, sometimes it does work, it almost seems like an intermittent problem.

  • Keyboard shortcut from type tool to move tool

What is the keyboard shortcut again from the type tool to the move tool?

If you hold the mouse over the tool in the tool palette Photoshop will pop up the answer for you.
If you use menu Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts the use the summirize button Photoshop will save your shortcuts for in a HTML page. You can search that page

  • Import keyboard shortcuts to photoshop cc 2014

I can't get my keyboard shortcuts to import to Photoshop CC 2014.  I've tried several different ways, lastly exporting them from CC and then importing them in CC 2014 and each time is says it is successful but none of my keyboard shortcuts or brushes appear

If you modified keys in CC did you save them.  If in CC you use menu Edit Keyboard Shortcuts. and Use the pull-down to select Photoshop Default keys and the current key have not been saved you will get an option to save them. Save the keys to a meaningful name.  You should the I believe you will be able to migrate you preset from CC to CC 2014 and will be able to get them in CC 2014.
    "C:\Users\your User Id\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Presets\Keyboard Shortcuts"

  • How do I set the keyboard shortcut for zoom tool to be r-clicking the mouse?

I want to have the r-click of my mouse be the zoom tool like in Quark Xpress. Can I make the Z shortcut to choosing the Zoom tool instead a r-click? I know how to get into keyboard shortcuts - just dont know what to type in for the new shortcut to make it a r-click. right now its 2 steps to zoom rather than in quark 1. not that I want to go back. lol.
also, while were talking about migration differences and extra steps, is there a way I can hide guides and set overprint preview in one step? (this is something I do often and was just a simple F7 in quark)
so these are just 2 things that take 2 steps in ID but one in quark. not that I want to go back. lol

OK, I've been doing this since CS2 with no need for a script. To hide guides and show preview...
    1) Go to 'Keyboard Shortcuts'
    2) Go to 'Product Area - Tools'. Yes, you'd think it would be in Views! But the buttons for this is at the bottom of the Tool Bar.
    3) Go to 'Commands: Toggle view setting between default and preview'
    4) Click your cursor inside 'New Shortcut' and hit the key you want or type it in. I choose the unused F2 key
    5) Click the 'Assign' button and you are set. Hit the key to switch back and forth.
As for your mouse Zoom, use Power Zoom as described above or just hold down the Alt/Option button in 'Hand' mode and use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out. Not one step but it works!
Now you won't miss Quark at all!

  • Services - Keyboard Shortcuts completely blank

My Dropbox stopped working on my Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard (10.6.8). With some digging I have located the problem. People tell me to check some box in the Keyboard Shortcuts, but my problem is that the right hand side is completely blank! Even clicking on "Restore Defaults" does not worked. I have restarted the system, re-installed Dropbox, the problem persists.
I've seen someone suggest re-installing the operating system, the problem goes away with that being done. Is there anything less drastic?  I'm migrating to a Retina if they ever get delivered in Germany (ordered 5 weeks ago, still no sign of it!), so I don't really want a lot of fuss. But the missing stuff in the context menus is really, really annoying as it gets in the way of working. Not all of the stuff is missing, however, just some like dropbox.
    Suggestions much appreciated!

Baltwo over at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2133137?start=15&tstart=0 had the right solution: Open the terminal and put this in:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
Wait. And ét voilà, the Services menu is back AND Dropbox works again.

  • Pages crashing on keyboard shortcuts

I am trying to migrate from Word to Pages. After installing iWork 09 and creating new documents in Pages, the program crashes when I use keyboard shortcuts. for example, if I use command F to find text, typing the command twice crashes the program. same for other keyboard commands that I've tried.  Not sure if other events will also precipitate crashes.
i have checked permissions, verified disk, checked viruses. running 10.6.8 on a macbook pro.
    thanks

    that did not help, unfortunately.

  • Default Keyboard Shortcut Overridden

I just bought a new iMac, and was hoping the upgrade would resolve an issue I was having on my iBook. Unfortunately I used the Migration Assistant against my (initially) better judgement and copied the problem over as well. At some point I managed to override the default action of Command+N so that now it skips to the next track in iTunes. I can not for the life of me figure out what program is doing it though. I've checked QuickSilver and Sizzling Keys and nether of them are setting the action. I've also tried going into System Preferences and resetting the default keyboard shortcuts all to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas where I can look or what else I can try to restore the default action?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

I have recently noticed that my keyboard shortcut keys are no longer set to their defaults (F4 for dashboard, F11 for volume down, etc.). Even after hitting Restore Defaults on the Keyboard Shortcuts tab under Keyboard and Mouse, the keys are not correctly set (F12 is for dashboard now and the others are likewise reset to another key).
I have no idea what has caused this change and would just like the default settings restored as it seems even with double-clicking the shortcut and holding down a new key (as per the instructions on the Keyboard and Mouse settings) I cannot restore them to their original functions.
    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
In System Preferences->Keyboard & Mouse->Keyboard, be sure the checkbox is checked (or unchecked, depending on how you use the function keys).

  • How do you load keyboard shortcuts?

    Hi all.
I don't get it: The keyboard-shortcuts dialog has a way to save sets of shortcuts, but no way to load them.  What is the point then?
    Thanks for any insight.

"What I was doing was simply attempt to disabuse you from your pre-conceived notion that everyone is for migrating, copying and deploying stuff"
I never said people want to do that.  I sure don't want to do that, and I'm pretty sure that no one really wants to do that.  What's your alternative? You say you would rather re-record or re-establish all of these workarounds on every machine one by one.  That's fine for you.  But it's absurd on a large scale or for experienced users.
"You're asking for functionality that already exists."
Exists if you record a macro.  Fortunately, you can load action sets.  And nice try with the condescension about "simplistic users."  Pasting is not an action that caters only to "simplistic users."  That asinine suggestion and tired strawman amounts to the old "you're not using it right" excuse, which is never accompanied by an explanation of how.
Adobe's longstanding failure to address design defects is evident all over Photoshop:
    1. Dialogs don't remember previous settings. The Image Size dialog is a great example. Every time you pull it up, the units of measure are reset. So you have to switch from pixels to percent, or inches to pixels, over and over and over. The Save As dialog demonstrates the same disregard for user choices.
    2. By default, Undo alternates between Undo and Re-do. Other applications have had multi-step undo for 20 years, and there's already a re-do key.
    3. You fix #2 by remapping Ctrl-Z to "step backward" (on every system, because of the hotkey problem we've already discussed). This reveals another longstanding bug: "Step backward" inexplicably changes the layer that you selected, in addition to undoing the last action. If you were on a text layer and then switch to a bitmap layer and make a brush stroke, try pressing Ctrl-Z. Not only is the brush stroke undone, but the text layer is reselected, making it impossible to make a new stroke until you go and reselect the bitmap layer.
    4. After drawing a selection box with the Rectangular Marquee tool, you can't resize it without going up to the Select menu and picking "Transform Selection" (or mapping a key for this on every system). Why can't you resize it by dragging any edge immediately? Even the free software that comes with scanners handles this properly.
    5. Zooming with the mouse wheel doesn't snap to standard zoom factors. In fact, if you zoom with the wheel, you often can't even return to 100%. It will go from 99.4% to 102%, skipping 100%. Common sense would dictate that the zoom snaps when crossing Photoshop's normal zoom levels, like 25%, 50%, 66.7%, 100%, 200%, and so on. Note "when crossing"; I'm not saying the wheel should ONLY go to those factors.
    6. No integrated thumbnail browser. It took until what, 2005, before Photoshop had any thumbnail browser at all, and it arrived in the form of a bloated separate application. Shareware photo-editing programs in the '90s had speedy and efficient thumbnail browsing, but in 2011 Adobe still can't pull it off. We hoped "mini-Bridge" was finally going to address this, but nope: You still have to have Bridge running. Sad.
And that's just what I can think of at the moment. Then there's Illustrator, which is practically abandonware at this point. If you want to talk about "many users over many years," this glaring defect is a great example:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856221?start=0&tstart=0
So you guys can get to work, or just keep making excuses and blaming users. I wonder what it'll be.

  • Keyboard shortcut preferences reset after login (10.8)

    The problem:
Every time I log out my keyboard shortcut preferences revert.  Anything I have ticked or unticked in system prefs / Keyboard / Shortcuts goes back to how it was before. The state it reverts to is not the same as the 'Restore Defaults' option produces.
All other preferences seem to work normally: dock, hotcorners, desktops etc. are all fine.
Interstingly I imported my partner's account from an old powerbook running 10.7 using migration assistant and in her account the preferences work normally.
    What I have tried:
I have deleted the com.apple.preferences.plist  and logged out and in again. No change.
I have copied the com.apple.preferences.plist from the other account, logged out and in. No Change
I have deleted the com.apple.dock.plist, logged out and in. No Change.
I notice that in the preferences.plist file it mentions the folowing: com.apple.preference.keyboard.lastselectedtab but this does not exist anywhere.
Can anyone suggest anything else to try?

I guess I have missed something in my process. I think I did follow the complete process as you outline it above. But then again I did it so many times yesterday I may have got confused.
In any case this morning after a shutdown and restart overnight  it works.
    Thanks Barney-15E !
