Migrating Mailboxes from ims5.2 to 6.2

Hello again,
Our test/migration 6.2 system is at the following:
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15 2005)
libimta.so 6.2-3.04 (built 01:43:03, Jul 15 2005)
Testing an in-place migration. Have done a small test using imsbackup/imsrestore
with just a few users on a different box. Went through the upgrade scripts, restored
the users, and that worked okay.
My testing now is different. We cloned one of our 300G mail partitions from the
current 5.2 production system. It contains close to 5000 accts and is about 95G of actual
data. I attached and mounted the clone on our test system and can see the 5.2 mail data.
Went through the upgrade scripts (mta, configutil, mboxlistdb). I had previously copied
the 5.2 mbox/config information to the 6.2 system and used as input.
The scripts ran with no problems. The problem I am having is that once I start up 'stored'
so I can check the database, the *.db files aren't what they used to be - looks like the
originals moved to a directory called 'removed'. Now, it's like a brand new db.
The upgrade changes introduced several partitions, of which only two would actually be
there (the primary & the one 300G clone). I am wondering if stored didn't like something
about the physical store and re-initialized.
At this point, I went ahead and ran 'reconstruct -m', which ran really fast for the 95G
of actual data that was there, so that's encouraging. The mailbox db looks good.
Would like to know why the db info would disappear. Is there a startup log that
may provide insight to this? Would like to know what I did wrong.
Thanks for your input.

libimta.so 6.2-3.04 (built 01:43:03, Jul 15 2005)You should be patching up to the latest 6.2 (118207-63) prior to attempting the migration - there were a few bugs fixed with the UpgradeMsg5toMsg6.pl migration script with the later patch.
Also you may want to consider going straight to 6.3 (once again make sure you use the latest patch-level).

Although this method won't give you the same results as the on-disk copies of the data (store.* files) aren't necessarily 100% up-to-date so users may notice some read/deleted email comes back.
Would like to know why the db info would disappear. Is there a startup log that

  • Migrating mailboxes from 2010 to 2013

I have tried to migrate a mailbox between forest from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 but when I run the new-moverequest on Exchange 2013 I get the following error
RemoteLegacy moves must involve Exchange 2010 or lower versions only.
Remote Moverequest dosn't work (The call to ‘https://mail.com/EWS/mrsproxy.svc’ failed. Error details: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel with authority ‘mail.com’. –>
The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. –> The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure.)
Can i use RemoteLegacy moves, or only Remote?
    Thanks.

When migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, a Remote Moverequest must
    be used.
    Example:
    $Cred = Get-Credential (source\account)
    New-MoveRequest -Identity [email protected] -Remote
    -RemoteHostName mail.sourcedomain.com -RemoteCredential $Cred -TargetDeliveryDomain targetdomain.com
So with the above example, the certificate installed on the source server must include the name mail.sourcedomain.com and target server must trust the certificate.

  • Migrate mailboxes from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2010

    Hello,
We have a merger and would like to know if it is possible to migrate mailboxes from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2010 in a cross-forest scenario.
Or should we first upgrade destination Exchange 2010 to 2013?
    Peteris

    Hi Peteris,
Based on my tests, we can move mailboxes from Exchange Server 2013 to Exchange server 2010. You can use the Prepare-MoveRequest.ps1 script in the EMS to prepare mailboxes for cross forest moves.
For more information about it, here is a helpful article for your reference.
Prepare mailboxes for cross-forest moves using the Prepare-MoveRequest.ps1 script in the Shell

Hope my clarification can be helpful to you.

  • Mailflow Problem After Migrating Mailbox From 2007 to 2013

I thought I was at the point of migrating our mailboxes from 2007 to 2013.  I had created a new test mailbox on the 2013 server and changed all the DNS and virtual directories for the legacy on the 2007 server and was able to successfully send mail
to the test mailbox out and in both internally and externally.  Then I migrated my first mailbox from 2007 to 2013 and things went south.
    I CAN NOT:
Send e-mail from a mailbox on the 2007 server to the migrated mailbox on the 2013 server.
Send e-mail from migrated mailbox to external e-mail address.
    I CAN:
Send e-mail from the migrated mailbox to a 2007 mailbox and the test mailbox on the 2013 server.
Send e-mail from the internet to the migrated mailbox and the 2013 test mailbox.
I unfortunately am running Exchange 2013 with CU6 (I am already aware of the activesync issue and delegation crash issue but saw the info too late).
    Suggestions please!!

    Hi,
Before going further, I'd like to ask the following questions to troubleshoot the issue:
    1. Could you send email from 2007 mailbox to the test mailbox on 2013 server?
    2. Did you get any NDR message when sending email to the migrated mailbox failed?
In addition, I recommend you try the following methods to find out the root cause:
    1. Try to use message tracking tool in exchange 2007 server ,it will help us to find the email which was sent to the migrated mailbox .
    2. Run the following command to check the permission groups of the receive connector:
    Get-Receiveconnector |fl Name,PermissionGroups,Exchangeversion

  • How to migrate mailbox from message 5.2 to message 7.0?

I am going to upgrade my Sun Java System Messaging Server 7.0 . Is it possible to move the mailbox from the iPlanet 5.2 to the new Sun Java System Messaging Server? Is there any problem if I do so? What is the difference between the IMAP mode and this way?

What should I do if I am not going to use any of your methods to migrate the mailboxes?I suggest you start by reading the relevant manuals/guides:
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/Upgrading+from+Messaging+Server+5.2+to+Sun+Java+System+Messaging+Server
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/Upgrading+the+Message+Store
The reason I suggested using imsbackup/imsrestore or IMAP copy is that this can be a simpler approach.
I want to leave the mailbox of the 5.2 version without any changes. And set the path of the new mailbox the same as the old version.
I have a user called "xdream".
    old version mailbox path: /mailbox/=user/b0/52/=xdream
new version mailbox path: /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/data/store/partition/primary/=user/b0/52/=xdreamYou should also be migrating the store mbox database which keeps track of peruser flags (e.g. read/seen/deleted), folder ACI's, folder subscriptions etc. Refer to the previous links for details.

  • Migrated mailbox from 2007 to 2013 now unable to connect to Samsung S4

I'm in the process of migrating from 2007 to 2013.
I have moved successfully a several mailbox's from Ex2007 to Ex2013.  Currently, all the EAS policies reside on the 2007 server and I have been successful reconnecting all the smartphones so far.
However, I have a Samsung S4 that is refusing to connect.   Any ideas what I need to do?

  • Migrate mailbox from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013, mailbox stay in queue

    Hi,
I'm trying to migrate a mailbox but the request is staying in queue, according to : Get-moverequest | Get-Moverequeststatistics
    Configuration server Exchange 2007 SP3 :
    Domain : test.com
    OS : Windows 2008 server SP2 (not R2)
    Firewall : OFF
Exchange roles are on separate three  servers : CAS - MAILBOX - HUB.
    Configuration Server Exchange 2013 :
    Domain : new.com
    OS: Windows 2012 R2
    Firewall : OFF
This environment is on a closed network unable to reach internet.
I have try to restart the Replication service, but it didn't worked.
I've searched a lot but i can't find any information to help me. The mailbox stays in queue....
    Anyone ever had this issue?
Thanks you and have a nice day.

    Hi ,
Based on my knowledge below things need to checked.
1.Please check the content index state of the target database is healthy and ensure the entire mailbox database status was in healthy state.
2.If your exchange 2013 is an single server and target database copy doesn't have the second copy then we need to set the below parameter value to none.
    DataMoveReplicationConstraint : None
Note : After the above change ,Microsoft exchange mailbox replication service needs to be restarted.
3.Restart the Microsoft exchange mailbox replication service and check the results.
    4. Have you tried moving the same mailboxes to the different databases.
5.If the move request is in the failed state then we can export the details of the move request to find out the exact cause for the failure.
    Get-MoveRequestStatistics -Identity "nithya" -IncludeReport | fl >c:\nithya.txt
Please feel free to reply me if you have any queries.

  • Mailboxes 'from' and 'to'

I have created two additional mailboxes. One is email from a clients and the second email I've sent. Is it possible to set up different columns for the two different mailboxes, to show 'From' and for the second mailbox 'To'?
At the moment I have to manually change the View Columns to see who I've sent emails to, and this changes all the Columns on all the mailboxes!
    Thanks

    Hi Aditya,
    Thank you for your question.
Migrating user from ABC.com to XYZ.com is the first step by the ADMT tool, we could refer to the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc974332(v=WS.10).aspx
Then we could refer to the following links to migrate mailbox from ABC.com to XYX.com:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2011/06/10/exchange-2010-cross-forest-migration-step-by-step-guide-part-i.aspx
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/17854.moving-mailboxes-between-exchange-organizations.aspx
From those links, we collect the following information for your migration.
    Target forest could contain a valid mail-enable user with a specified user of Active Directory attributes;
    Addressing the migration challenges;
    Configure Mail Flow between the two forests(we have done in this case);
    Migration of user and computer accounts using ADMT;
    Exchange Mailbox migration using native tools;
Enable sharing Free/Busy information between the two forests, so when the user is migrated to the target forest, he will still be able to check the free/busy information of other users in the source forest and vice versa.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,

  • Migrate clients from Exchange 2013 to a different Exchange 2013

    Hi,
We are planning to migrate an Exchange 2013 instance to a centralized one. The question is how to deal with the Outlook OST mail files left over from the old instance and were wondering what best practices in this regard there may be.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

    Hi,
Do you mean you want to migrate mailbox from one Exchange server to another Exchange server? If it is, we can directly move the whole mailbox to another mailbox server instead of Exporting/Importing a mailbox to PST file.
If you want to migrate a large number of user mailboxes, we can
specify a CSV file when you use the Exchange admin center (EAC) or the New-MigrationBatch cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell to create a migration batch.
Here are some detailed information about mailbox moves in Exchange 2013:

  • Migrating mailboxes to another forest Exchange organisation

    Hello,
We are looking to achieve 2 migration tasks: one is to upgrade one Exchange organisation from 2010 to 2013 and the second is to migrate mailboxes from the second organisation to the new 2013 server.
To explain the scenario in a bit more detail:
    Forest A – 1  AD domain with a single Exchange 2010 server
    Forest B – 1 AD domain with a single Exchange 2010 sever
    Stage 1 – Migrate Forest A to Exchange 2013
Stage 2 – Migrate mailboxes from forest B to forest A but still keep forest B as its own AD domain. Or to put it another way; we want the users in forest B to have their mailboxes migrated to forest A (linked mailboxes?) but still keep use forest B to login
etc, essentially making forest A a resource forest for users in forest B
I hope that makes sense! One of my main concerns is I am assuming it is possible to perform a cross forest migration from forest B which will be at 2010 to forest A which will be 2013. Would it be better to perform the cross forest migrations before hand?
If someone is able to let me know if what I am proposing is possible I would be extremely grateful.

    Hi
There is no problem with any of those ideas.  You can migrate cross-forest between to either 2010 or 2013 irrespective of the source Exchange version, using the native tools.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee633491(v=exchg.150).aspx
If you want to have them as linked mailboxes you just specify the -linkedmailuser switch when you run the preparemoverequest.ps1 script, you then perform the remote move as described in the link above.

  • Move Mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 (Could not find a valid mailbox migration for esta organization)

Hi all, I am in full migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 and everything went correctly.
I have migrated several mailboxes and are working well. But a few days ago, when I try to migrate a mailbox I get the following error and can not migrate:
"Could not find a valid mailbox migration for this organization"
Do you know that you can be?
    regards
Microsoft Certified IT Professional Server Administrator

    Hi,
From your description, the issue should be related to the migration mailbox. I recommend you check if the following account is existed in ADUC.
    Migration.8f3e7716-2011-43e4-96b1-aba62d229136
If this account does not exist, you need to run setup /prepareAD and then enable this migration mailbox to check the result.
Hope this can be helpful to you.

  • Migrating nested mailboxes from POP to IMAP

How can I migrate a user from POP to IMAP, with their nested mailbox structure and email. I have dragged and dropped the nested mailboxes from the POP account to the IMAP account. All the nested mailboxes transfered as planned, but only the email in the most deeply nested folders transfered.
Is there a smooth way to migrate the nested mailbox structure AND all of the email inside of the nested mailboxes?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

I have the same problem. I copied my subfolders from my POP account into my .Mac account and they show up, but they don't update with new mail. I guess I need to migrate my POP account to an IMAP account but I don't want to lose my 100+ rules and 15 mailboxes.

  • Exchange 2013 - can no longer move mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Ex 2013.

Migrating to Exchange 2013 from Exchange 2010. Created Ex 2013, moved some mailboxes OK. Then could no longer move mailboxes. No errors. The Migration email says complete. Synced: none, Total Mailboxes: none.
    Tried several mailboxes. Same result.
Ex 2010 is SP3 RU6, (at least it says RU6 is installed in Programs/Features. The build is for SP3 w/o RU6???)
    Ex 2013 is SP1 aka CU4.
    How to proceed???
    john11

After many attempts to fix the issue (move remaining 4 mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013) I contacted Microsoft and we resolved the issue. Here's how.
btw - Thanks for the suggestions from Ed. However, they did not seem to move us forward.
    What did work:
    1. On the Exchange 2010 box, create a new database. (Someone else suggested this also). Then move the remaining Exchange 2010 mailboxes to this new db. Then after that, move the 4 mailboxes to Exchange 2013 using the GUI on Ex 2013. This only worked for one
of the four mailboxes. The other 3 failed.
    2. Apparently, we need to restart the Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service on the Exchange 2013 after several failed move attempts to clear cache related to the moves.
    3. Then on the Exchange 2013 box, use this Exchange shell command:
New-MoveRequest -identity "[email protected]" -TargetDatabase "Exchange 2013 DB name" -BadItemLimit '500' -verbose
This moved the remaining 3 mailboxes including the Discovery mailbox. It took some time. But we could check the progress using
    Get-MoveRequest
The MS Tech was terrific. Really knew his stuff. And all mailboxes are on Exchange 2013. Well, the last one is still moving, but I am optimistic.
Thanks for the suggestions. I had to get this done and the MS Tech made that happen.

  • Cannot move more than 2 mailboxes from exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

I have been trying to move mailboxes from ex2007 to ex2013with the new-migrationbatch and the new-moverequest command.
I have a DAG-cluster with two servers with all roles.
What happens is that I cannot get more than two concurrent mailbox moves.  If I restart the MRS-service nothing happens. I have changed the config-file for the mailbox replication service and currently have these settings:
    MaxMoveHistoryLength="5"
    MaxActiveMovesPerSourceMDB="20"
    MaxActiveMovesPerTargetMDB="20"
    MaxActiveMovesPerSourceServer="100"
    MaxActiveMovesPerTargetServer="100"
    MaxTotalRequestsPerMRS="100"
What is funny is that when I start a new batch with autocomplete off, only two mailboxes goes to 95% and the rest of them is not even started.
The command I use is  New-Migrationbatch -local -Name TestNew -csvdata ([System.IO.File]::ReadAllBytes("c:\temp\exchange\migration\testmigration.txt")) -targetdatabases mdb001,mdb002 -autostart
Here is the output of Get-MigrationConfig | fl
    RunspaceId : d382f8a7-924a-4f0e-812e-f18970b632e2
    Identity :
    MaxNumberOfBatches : 100
    MaxConcurrentMigrations : Unlimited
    Features : MultiBatch
    CanSubmitNewBatch : True
    SupportsCutover : False
I have off course restarted both servers and services.

Just out of curiosity, on which server you made these changes? Mailbox or CAS? And on Target or Source Server?

I just finished migrating a client from Google Apps to Microsoft Exchange Online using the IMAP option in the Microsoft Online Services Migration Tool.
I added the mailboxes by creating a CSV file [i.e. GoogleApps(Gmail)_Mailboxes.csv] in the following format:
    SourceIdentity,SourceServer,SourceLoginID,SourcePassword,TargetIdentity
    [email protected],imap.gmail.com,[email protected],P@ssword1,[email protected]
    [email protected],imap.gmail.com,[email protected],P@ssword2,[email protected]
    [email protected],imap.gmail.com,[email protected],P@ssword3,[email protected]
Then I created a custom folder map XML file [i.e. GoogleApps(Gmail)_FolderMap.xml] to map the Google Apps (Gmail) labels to the appropriate Exchange (Outlook) mailbox folders and create those that didn't exist (i.e. Important, Starred, Follow up,

Additionally, I had to tell the Internet E-mail Mailbox Migration Wizard to use the "Individual Account Credentials" option since I was able to specify each account password in the CSV file when adding the mailboxes to Microsoft Online Services Migration
    Tools console.
Just to note, the users had to manually export their contacts to a CSV file and calendars to iCal (ICS) files in order to import those items into Outlook.
I hope this will benefit others since Microsoft doesn't seem to have a custom, specifically defined migration strategy for this scenario.  With Google Apps being in direct competition with BPOS/Office365, I assumed that Microsoft would have a simple
strategy using something like ActiveSync to facilitate the migration of email, contacts, calendar entries, etc.  Hopefully we'll see something along those lines become available in a future release of the migration tools.
