Migrating mailboxes to another forest Exchange organisation

Hello,
We are looking to achieve 2 migration tasks: one is to upgrade one Exchange organisation from 2010 to 2013 and the second is to migrate mailboxes from the second organisation to the new 2013 server.
To explain the scenario in a bit more detail:
Forest A – 1  AD domain with a single Exchange 2010 server
Forest B – 1 AD domain with a single Exchange 2010 sever
Stage 1 – Migrate Forest A to Exchange 2013
Stage 2 – Migrate mailboxes from forest B to forest A but still keep forest B as its own AD domain. Or to put it another way; we want the users in forest B to have their mailboxes migrated to forest A (linked mailboxes?) but still keep use forest B to login
etc, essentially making forest A a resource forest for users in forest B
I hope that makes sense! One of my main concerns is I am assuming it is possible to perform a cross forest migration from forest B which will be at 2010 to forest A which will be 2013. Would it be better to perform the cross forest migrations before hand?
If someone is able to let me know if what I am proposing is possible I would be extremely grateful.

Hi
There is no problem with any of those ideas.  You can migrate cross-forest between to either 2010 or 2013 irrespective of the source Exchange version, using the native tools.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee633491(v=exchg.150).aspx
If you want to have them as linked mailboxes you just specify the -linkedmailuser switch when you run the preparemoverequest.ps1 script, you then perform the remote move as described in the link above.

  • Best way to migrate Mailboxes with all permissions Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2010--cross forest

    Hi,
Due to some Exchange and Active Directory issues (with remnants of old Ex 2003 server), we are going to migrate Exchange 2010 Mailboxes and public folders to a new Exchange 2010 Sp3 server, which is created in a new AD forest.
I would really appreciate if someone can direct us to the best way to migrate mailboxes and PFs with their permissions, to new Ex 2010 SP3 server. We have around 30 mailboxes, and 300 GB of mailboxes data, and 200 GB of PFdata.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Regards, David Johnson

    Hello,
Firstly, you need to creat forest trust between two forests.
If you want to move AD user account and mailboxes, please use ADMT and PrepareMoveRequest script.
If you want to migrate public folder, please export data to PST file and then import pst file to new server.

  • Mailboxes in another forest

I'd like to ask what are my options on a scenario described here:
Two AD forests without any trusts between (let's call em old and new)
Old has users and Exchange 2000
New has the same users (with new samaccountnames) and Exchange 2013
There's no need to migrate boxes from 2000 to 2013, .pst files can do this
There's a firewall between these two forests, this can although be handled
Name resolving is in Place and both old can resolve DNS names for the systems in the new and vice versa
I'd like the users who are still using the Old AD to start using the Exchange 2013 mailbox (and addressbook with it's distribution groups) they have in the New AD (and kill the old Exchange 2000 once and for all). What are my options? Is there trust needed
between the old and new AD forest? Can it be configured so that user's wouldn't be prompted for username/password when they use their new mailbox (which is in the new AD) from old AD?

    Hi Narcoticoo,
Base on my knowledge , you can use "linked mailboxes" mode between two AD forest.
You can treat old AD as an account forest, and treat new AD as an exchange forest.
However, you must store all the .pst files in the old AD, and then uninstall exchange 2000, just leave all the AD account.
I recommned you refer to the following article to understand "Linked Mailboxes":
    Manage linked mailboxes
    Please note:
A trust between the Exchange forest and at least one account forest must be set up before you can create linked mailboxes. At a minimum, you must set up a one-way, outgoing trust so that the Exchange forest trusts the account forest.

  • Need help on Cross Forest Exchange 2007 - 2013 with Linked Mailboxes

    Hey all,
So I'm in a bit of a pickle with my Exchange design and am trying to figure out if there's a way to migrate mailboxes across forests where Linked mailboxes are being used. I've done a bit of reading and have noted stuff like preparing the move request in
AD, etc. But I'm wondering if someone can break it down for me.
    http://1drv.ms/1lWjLqG
The above is a OneNote diagram of how we have moved over time. Please forgive my sloppy handwriting but I hope it gets the point across. I will text it out here as well:
    Original Design
The original design of the domains when I joined the company were fabrikam and contoso. Contoso is a domain that sits entirely in the "DMZ". Fabrikam was the internal AD forest where most services and users authenticated to. In Contoso, there
are 2 domain controllers, the "Front End" Exchange Server (Edge Transport), and the "Back End" server, which is CAS/Mailbox.
There is a forest trust between contoso and fabrikam where "Linked Mailboxes" are created in Contoso, and then the LinkedMasterAccount is set to Fabrikam.
    Migration/Hybrid Design
Due to the fact that these two domains were configured massively inappropriately, riddled with security holes as well as strange permissions configurations, the decision was made to create a new internal AD domain. In my OneNote, I've labeled this 'specialbank.com'.
A long while ago we migrated users from Fabrikam to SpecialBank via trusts. To facilitate access to Exchange, a new trust was created between Contoso and SpecialBank to allow us to update the LinkedMasterAccount parameter to the new Specialbank domain.
We have most of our users authenticating to their mailboxes via SpecialBank, while the mailboxes still reside in Contoso.
Migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013
I am attempting to now figure out the best way to migrate the mailboxes from Contoso to a new set of Mailbox servers in SpecialBank. This will also be an upgrade from Exchange 2007 (Current) to an Exchange 2013 installation.
The latest Service Packs and CUs are installed in both.
What would be the best procedure to move these mailboxes? To my knowledge, the current best practice/recommended way is to perform a user/SID migration from Contoso to SpecialBank. But I already have accounts in
SpecialBank that users are actively using.
I'm not opposed to doing a simple PST export from Contoso to SpecialBank, but we're looking at around 120 mailboxes. So I'm trying to make my life a little easier instead of spending a weekend here.
If I try to do it in batches, I need to figure out how to handle autodiscover and CAS. Since I'm creating an entirely new Exchange environment, I'm trying to limit what I place in the existing configuration. But I'm not opposed to setting up something temporarily
if I need to in order to make the migration transparent to users.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi ,
From you description i came to know contoso is the resource forest and special bank is the account forest .
You just wanted to migrate the linked mailboxes from resource forest to account forest and also you would want the migrated mailboxes to get merged to the respective user accounts in the account forest to become as a normal user mailbox.Am i right ?
Please correct me if i am wrong . I have found some blogs in internet please have a look in to that especially the first one.

  • Migrate mailboxes from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2010

    Hello,
We have a merger and would like to know if it is possible to migrate mailboxes from Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2010 in a cross-forest scenario.
Or should we first upgrade destination Exchange 2010 to 2013?
    Peteris

    Hi Peteris,
Based on my tests, we can move mailboxes from Exchange Server 2013 to Exchange server 2010. You can use the Prepare-MoveRequest.ps1 script in the EMS to prepare mailboxes for cross forest moves.
For more information about it, here is a helpful article for your reference.

  • Exchange active sync cannot connect to server after migration mailbox user from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 coexistence

Hello, everyone, my name is rafl
I have a problem with exchange 2013 active sync.
I have installed exchange 2013 coexistence with legacy exchange 2007, I have to migrate user mailboxes: [email protected] from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013.
but any problem with active sync connection on the mobile device after moving mailbox user. I reconfigure the exchange ActiveSync external connection domain (latest.domain.com) on mobile device replacing legacy exchange ActiveSync external connection domain
    (legacy.domain.com)
the process of moving mailboxes successfully without error.
Access OWA for exchange 2007 and exchange 2013 is running normally
access mail from Outlook running normally
Certificate request has been installed and has no problem with it
The OWA virtual directory is configured for internal and external connections and different from the legacy exchange
The autodiscover virtual directory is configured for internal and external connections and different from the legacy exchange
ActiveSync virtual directory is configured for internal and external connections and different from the legacy exchange
user mailboxes are still on exchange 2007 is not problematic.
only problem with Exchange Active Sync on mobile devices, where I set up an email with android, iphone, windows phone. the error message: cannot connect to the server.
but, if I create a new user and create user mailboxes directly in exchange server 2013, ActiveSync can run without error on mobile device, access through OWA, MsOutlook, Outlook Anywhere also run normally.
only the results of user migration from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 which is troubled with exchange ActiveSync connection.
any ideas for this problem, and what should I check on the exchange server ..?

i have run the activesync test connectivity and get some error :

  • Exchange Cutover Migration Mailbox limit

    Greetings,
    In the Microsoft documentation says:
You can migrate a maximum of 2,000 mailboxes from your on-premises Exchange organization to Exchange Online using a cutover migration. This migration method only moves mailboxes,
mail users, mail contacts, and mail-enabled groups.
But in the EAC migration console when I select cutover migration it says the limit is 1000 mailboxes
I need to validate if the limit is 2000 mailboxes or 1000, and also if I can migrate more than 1000 mailboxers without issues even when EAC says the maximum is 1000.
Thanks in advance for the help!

    Hi AC,
As the documents said, the limit now is 2,000 mailboxes.
I notice following information in the article
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/w/solutions/4294.aspx :
In Remote move migrations, you have to implement a hybrid deployment to migrate more than 1,000 Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2013 mailboxes to Exchange Online.
Please verify whether you are in the Remote move migrations.
Also suggest asking Office 365 forum for help so that we can get more professional suggestions. For your convenience:

    Hi,
Our Exchange 2013/2007 coexistence environment is set up and all is working apart from this:
Mailbox A has full permissions to Mailbox B. Mailbox A is migrated to Exchange 2013, but Mailbox B remains on Exchange 2007. If I login to Outlook Web App 2013 as Mailbox A and then "Open another mailbox..." and select Mailbox B, a new window opens

    Hi Ansev,
    Thank you for your question.
By my testing, user who was migrated to Exchange 2013 cannot access mailbox on Exchange 2007 with 500 error, although user account have “Full Access Permission” to mailbox on Exchange 2007.
I suggest we migrate account which has “Full Access Permission” for other user  to Exchange 2013.

  • Move account to another forest

    Dear.
We have two forests with a forest trust between them. Today, our users are in Forest A, their Exchange 2013 mailbox too. We want to move the user accounts to Forest B while their mailbox remains in forest A.The accounts are synced between both forests.
Are there command line, PowerShell command we can use to automate this? If so, how.
Does someone has a link to a good article or document describing this procedure?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Export mailbox Data between two exchange servers

    HI All,
We are merging to a another company and looking for best options to migrate mailboxes?
    AS

You can transfer your Exchange mailbox data (including email, calendar, contacts, tasks, and notes) from your old Exchange account to a new Exchange account. you will need to export data from your old account, remove the old account, add the new account,
and then import the data into your new account.
The above reference looks a good start-up for you.
However, if you wish to achieve this goal automatically, you may also checkout this automated solution (http://www.exchangemailboxmigration.com/) to get this job done in more hassle-free manner without
    any issue.

  • Migrating mailboxes from 2010 to 2013

I have tried to migrate a mailbox between forest from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 but when I run the new-moverequest on Exchange 2013 I get the following error
RemoteLegacy moves must involve Exchange 2010 or lower versions only.
Remote Moverequest dosn't work (The call to ‘https://mail.com/EWS/mrsproxy.svc’ failed. Error details: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel with authority ‘mail.com’. –>
The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. –> The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure.)
Can i use RemoteLegacy moves, or only Remote?
    Thanks.

When migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, a Remote Moverequest must
    be used.
    Example:
    $Cred = Get-Credential (source\account)
    New-MoveRequest -Identity [email protected] -Remote
    -RemoteHostName mail.sourcedomain.com -RemoteCredential $Cred -TargetDeliveryDomain targetdomain.com
So with the above example, the certificate installed on the source server must include the name mail.sourcedomain.com and target server must trust the certificate.

What is the Maximum number of user mailboxes supported by single Exchange Database  in 2007 / 2010 & 2013 ?
    Aditya Mediratta

Agree with Keith, there is no MB # limit, however there are practical concerns such as DB size and how that effects recoverability as well as performance.   In terms of extremes we had one major educational customer that had 35K Mailboxes in
a single database so you can utilize a ridiculous # of mailboxes in a DB if desired.  IMO you are better off to keep the # of mailboxes to a reasonable level, i.e. no more than 250-500 mailboxes per DB
Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003 -->

    My best regards.

    Hi,
Basic on my research, I’m afraid that there is no tool for this kind of migration, we may need to start from PST file.
We can use Microsoft Exchange PST Capture to search for PST files on computers in your organization and then import those files to mailboxes in your organization, for your reference:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh781036(v=exchg.141).aspx
Besides, I find an similar thread about Migrate Exim to Exchange:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/0ff095c4-2334-4dd6-8d08-bbee1c98867e/migrating-from-linux-to-exchange-server-2010-question?forum=exchangesvradminlegacy
    Thanks

  • "Exchange organisation does not support this version of Exchange server"

I am facing the error "Exchange Organisation does not support this version of exchange server" at time of installation of exchange server 2007 in the Windows server 2008 Enterprise edition.
I have already installed exchange Server 2010 in the that domain.
The following the image that show the error that i am facing
I have the checked current Active Directory or Exchange Server schema version by using
Using that i got the following information
"dsquery * cn=schema,cn=configuration,dc=india,dc=local -scope base -attr objectVersion"
objectVersion = Windows Server 2008 RTM
    CN=ms-Exch-Schema-Version-Pt,cn=schema,cn=configuration,dc=india,dc=local -scope base -attr rangeUpper"
    rangeUpper = 14726 ( Exchange server 2010 sp1)
