Migrating MobileMe Mail account to iCloud?

Strange....
I have two MobileMe mail accounts. Only one of them moved to iCloud when I downloaded Lion 7.2 and the other stayed a "MobileMe" account. I can't figure out how to convert the remaining MobileMe account to an iCloud account.
I've tried setting it up in the Mail program by manually adding it as a iCloud account, but it doesn't work.
Any suggestions?
Note: It IS a separte e-mail account--not an alias account.

Are you using an @mac.com Apple ID, e.g., [email protected]? Try [email protected]; my daughter had the same issue with a recently created account & I found the following somewhere:

If you had a working @mac.com email address as of July 9, 2008 you can continue to use that address as you always have, as well as your new address @me.com. And emails sent to either address will appear in your inbox on the web as well as your devices. I've been having the same problem since iCloud appeared and complicated an otherwise trouble-free system. Doubling frustrating is that iCloud duplicates my .Mac account so I get two of everything in my Inbox. I turned off iCloud and now mail at least goes out but I can't delete the duplicate account.

Migrating inactive MobileMe email account to iCloud

I have a MobileMe email account that was inactive at the point I installed 10.7.2 and activated iCloud. I was hoping I'd be able to use the same @me.com email address I had with MobileMe with iCloud. However, when I used the MobileMe "move to iCloud" option (http://me.com/move I think), iCloud tells me I have to set up a me.com email address. When I try to use the address I had with MobileMe, iCloud tells me that address is already registered (it was, by me with MobileMe!) and I have to select another. Is there any way I can use my existing (although previously inactive) @me.com email address with iCloud?

Welcome to the Apple community.
Non .mac/.me email will be unaffected by your migration to iCloud. What it means is that their settings won't be synced, this only applies when you set up a new device, you'll need to set up non iCloud mail manually on a new device from now on.

Hi folks!
I am thinking about finally updating my OS X to Mountain Lion... sad fact is I am still on Snow Leopard. Well it's not sad... I have not felt the need to update it, been busy with work and didn't want to rock the boat sorta speak, everything currently is working to my expectations.
I am wondering about iCloud - I currently use iCloud on my iPhone only... not on my Mac (as of course it is Snow Leopard). I am wondering, can iCloud back up mail accounts like the good ole MobileMe did? I used to subscribe to MobileMe and one of the features I loved was that I could put all my OS X Mail Account settings into the 'cloud' and restore them at any time. Is that possible now with iCloud?
Another idea I had... as I am not using iCloud at the moment on my Mac, I use iTunes to sync my mail accounts to my iPhone 4 - do you think it is possible to send those account settings from my iPhone to iCloud, and then back down into my MacBook once I have completed the upgrade to Mountain Lion? Better than having to setup multiple email address again ;-)

With Snow Leopard you can access your iCloud email by setting Mail up manually:

You may be able to sync your calendars to iCloud by means of an unsupported hack, and there is a convoluted hack which has been reported as working for Address Book (and as not working by others - I've not tried it), but iCloud's other facilities will not work. This page outlines the situation when you migrate to iCloud, including a link to the calendar hack:

If you upgrade your Mac to Mountain Lion you will be able to access iCloud fully and the data which is already on there will sync to your Mac: you will need to be careful about possible duplicates. You should be asked which set of data should be the master.

Cannot retrieve email from Mail account on iCloud

SInce Tuesday, Sept 11th I have been unable to retrieve my messages on my iCloud mail account. Mail doesn't work on my MacBook Pro or any of my devices (iphone or ipad). When I try to log on to iCloud I can see my calendar and contacts, however I cannot access my mail. When I ran Connection Doctor I get the following message:
"Trying to log in to this iCloud IMAP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct. Also verify that the server supports Apple Token authentication. If it does not, choose an appropriate authentication setting in the Advanced tab of the Account preferences."
Mail continues to place this email account in an offline position moments after I click to take it online.
I've read some reports of others having this problem occur on Tuesday as well. Is this an iCloud issue? Please advise.

You can try deleting the account on your iphone and setting it up again.

I can't get my MobileMe mail account working with ...

I have spend hours with trying to get my MobileMe (www.me.com) mail account to work correctly based on IMAP protocol on my Nokia 5800. I have the correct settings, I have tried both with and without SSL, and I do have other mail accounts working (synchronising properly with IMAP on the 5800). I do use and access the same email account on other devices and PCs and have no similar problem. Consequently I am confused. how to get the issue resolved and would appreciate your help if you have eventually experienced this symptom and did come across it.

TS3988 Cannot unlink old e-mail account from iCloud

I am trying to update my iCloud e-mail address to reflect my new e-mail, however there is no way on my iPad to do this -- it refuses to take my old password and even though I have reset my password with Apple AND provided both my old and new e-mail addresses and entered all of the correct verification questions it persists in asking me for the password for my old e-mail account. This is an AMAZINGLY FRUSTRATING process Apple has set it -- it has virtually no comparison to any other security system online -- my bank, my brokerage account, my access to my health records are ALL SIGNIFICANTLY EASIER TO ACCESS and to manage security for. You guys HAVE to make this easier and more intuitive. It's 100% a broken system right now -- what's the point of having verification questions and asking for both old and new e-mail accounts if this does NOTHING but put you back in the same inescapable loop? For the amount of money you guys make off your devices and digital sales you'd think you could hire someone to solve issues like this gracefully. PLEASE help resolve this. I am highly technically literate...I cannot imagine what it might be like for your users who are less so.

This is the forum where you do not address apple, but help is provided by users like you. Surprise, I know.
Go back to appleid site and change your new apple id back to old one for one minute. That will trick Apple server into thinking that old id exists, allowing just enough time to delete account. Change it back when done and verify.

Adding A Second MobileMe Mail Account?

My wife has a ME mail account. I can't seem to get into the ME website via Safari so she can check her email. Is there a way to create multiple accounts on an iPad so she can also use it to check her email?

Accessing a MobileMe account with the iPad's Mail application is the only way to access the account with the iPad, which is the same with an iPhone or iPod Touch.
I think it can also be done with a different browser, like iCab, but Mail is certainly much better.

Mail account sync iCloud

I signed up with .mac then went to .me now it's .icloud
Anyhow it used to resync all my mail accounts when I reinstalled a new system in .me and .mac. it's not doing it now with .icloud
It synced only the iCloud email address but the other two accounts are not automatically setup as they used to.
How do you get iCloud to sync all the mail accounts? I'd like it to restore my previous settings before I had to wipe my disk.

With the introduction of OS X Mountain Lion, Notes were moved to their own standalone application. Therefore, iCloud will sync notes with the Notes application instead of Mail:

Want to Migrate SL Mail Accounts to G4 eMac Tiger?

I have just started using my old G4 eMac (Tiger) again.
The Mail accounts are all obsolete as I changed my ISP last year.
I would like to transfer my Intel iMac's new accounts onto the G4 eMac but don't wish to move all the old emails over.
Can it be done and how?
Regarding the obsolete accounts on the G4, I wish to keep the emails for reference purposes but don't want all the old accounts cluttering the Mail sidebar. Any suggestions?

If the eMac is stuck at Tiger, I suppose you might try moving a few new e-mails from the new machine, since they're separate emlx files and see if Tiger's Mail can read them. If so, that might be all you'd have to do. Alternatively, move the old ones over to the new machine and import them (appears that you might have to use entire Mailboxes). So collect the old ones into uniquely named mailboxes, copy them over to the new machine, and use the Mail->File->Import Mailboxes… option. Another WAG on my part since I rely on Eudora.
