Migrating MS SQL Server 7.0 TO Oracle 8.1.5

Hello,
We are currently using Win NT 4.0, MS SQL Server with a PVCS Tracker 6.0 from Merant and will be upgrading to PVCS Dimension 6.0 from Merant.
The Dimension 6.0 product runs on Win NT 4.0, uses Oracle Server 8.1.5 with Oracle 8 ODBC Driver 2.5.3.1.0
I need to migrate MS SQL Server 7.0 To Oracle 8.1.5. Do you have a migration procedure available?
Thanks!
TP

Are you migrating or taking continual updates?
If migrating it might be worth considering The SQLDeveloper Migration Workbench (which moves more than just data)..

  • Migration from SQL Server 7.0 to Oracle 8.0.5

Can we migrate from SQL Server 7.0 to Oracle 8.0.5 directly without being converted to Oracle 8i objects

    Hi,
U can convert from sql server to Oracle 8 but u've to look after the stored procedures in mssql server. If the stored procedures contains any temporary table concepts and resultset then some manual changes are required.

I understand that it would not be in the best interests of Oracle, monetarily that is (at least in the visible/tangible sense), to develop such a migration tool, but since the competition hasn't, why shouldn't you? I'm sure Prabha's not the first to inquire of such a thing, and I'm sure I'd have asked a similar question if I wasn't responding to you in this way. We all know Oracle is the better db - That's why we're here talking about it - but not everyone we do business with understands that, so establishing a two way street is the best way, short of requiring it of our clients, to turn them on to Oracle. I don't really think developing such a thing would hurt your business (unless MS can keep you from doing it). If your product is that much better (which we agree is true), you shouldn't be afraid of the competition. As for being afraid of proprietary constraints, I can't blame you, because I don't know how much it constrains you.

My first reaction to your question would be "why would anyone want to migrate FROM Oracle and TO SQLServer ?". Oracle is easily the better database !
...but no, I don't really think it would be in Oracle's best interests to produce a migration tool that moved users to a propritory Microsoft product/platform..<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • How to migrate MS SQL Server OLAP data to Oracle 10g OLAP

    Hi,
Anyone has any idea on whether migration workbench can migrate my MS SQL Server OLAP data to Oracle 10g (with OLAP option) ?
    Best Regards,
    Ian Ho

    Ian,
What exactly do you mean by SQL*Server OLAP ? Is it just a 'normal' SQL*Server database which is used for an OLAP application ?
The migration workbench migrates schema objects, triggers, and stored procedures and is not concerned with the application that uses those objects.
And the same with the Oracle OLAP database. Once the data etc has been moved into the database you can then use it for whichever application you want.
If you have concerns apart from moving the actual data then please give us more details.
    Regards,
    Mike

  • Migrating from SQL Server 7.0 To Oracle 8i (SQLServer Jobs/ Schedules)

    Hi there,
How do you schedule jobs in Oracle in a similar way as SQL Server 7.0? So far I have only been able to find a DBMS_JOB.Start and Enable and Disable.
Apart from this I have a question on maintainence procedures.
I run the following steps in SQL Server for performance benefits.
    1) Rebuild INdexes
    2) Database Shrink
    3) Recompile Stored Procedures
    4) Recompute Statistics
    5) Make an entry in a table to indicate that these 4 tasks have been completed.
Do these things matter in Oracle or does the database take care of it on its own? How do you get a similar maintenance schedule up and running in Oracle 8i?
    Please reply.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ajay

  • Database Migration MS Sql Server 2008 to Oracle

I have downloaded the latest updates for SQL Developer and am attempting to migrate my SQL Server 2008 DB to Oracle 11g. I get the following error when attempting to test my Sql Server connection:
Status : Failure - Test failed: I/O Error: SSO Failed: Native SSPI library not loaded. Check the java.library.path system property.
After attempting and following several posts, I have been unsuccessful in getting past this error - I have downloaded and placed in the specified directories the various .dll's suggested....
Any help is of course appreciated.

Boy do I look foolish. I told this guy that the owners of the application answer questions here... suerly he would get a reply.
Such is the problem with "free" software. No one to blame when it doesn't work.

I have used the correct option and the Migration Workbench is
not creating the DDL statements correctly for the creation of
table. Whatever may be the problem I want use DBMS_SQL for
creation of unique table names with session id as part of the
table name. I need a sample script to use session id as part of
table name and to vary the name of the table dynamically in
DBMS_SQL. It is not accepting the variable name for table name
    in create table statement.

  • Migrate Data action hanging migrating from sql server to Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I am currently migrating a SQL Server 2005 db to Oracle 10g using SQL Developer 1.2.1. I have created the migration repository, captured the SQL Server db objects, and created the target schema. There are about 109 tables captured. During Data migration, however, the data move hangs. I have run the data move a couple of times now and it does not hang while migrating any particular table, but seems to be more to do with the length of time it is taking to migrate. Could this be an issue with SQL Server connections being lost? The SQL Server db is quite large. Row counts of 100k plus.

Probably. There is an offline option for migrating data under the migration menu. Generate Scripts for the data move using the appropriate converted model and u can export the data to bcp export files and load it with teh generated SQL Loader scripts.

  • Problem with migrating data (SQL Server 2k offline data capture)

    Hi there,
I try to migrate a SQL Server 2000 database to Oracle 10g (R2) using offline data capture. I following the online Tutorial “Migrate from Microsoft SQL Server to Oracle Database 10g Using Oracle Migration Workbench” and everything seems OK until “Migrating the tablespaces, users and user tables to the destination database” http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/10gr2_db_vmware/develop/omwb/omwb.htm#t5. I have two errors on 2 (out of 85 ) tables saying “ Failed to create default for Table :
ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis”. I checked the column/table names and they seems OK. I don’t understand why I got these errors. However, when I checked the ‘SA’ Schema in Oracle Enterprise Manager Console, I can see all the tables (including the two problem ones).
I then carry on to the next step and tried to migrate data to the destination database (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/10gr2_db_vmware/develop/omwb/omwb.htm#t6) I am now stuck on step 5. “…copy the files from c:\omwb\data_files to the c:\omwb\Omwb\sqlloader_scripts\SQLServer2K\<timestamp>\Oracle directory…” I cannot find the ‘c:\omwb\data_files’ directory, in fact, I don’t have a directory called ‘data_files’ on my machine. I noticed the ‘c:\omwb\Omwb\sqlloader_scripts\SQLServer2K\<timestamp>\Oracle’ directory contains the all the 85 [tableName].ctl files (plus two other files: ‘sql_load_script’ and ‘sql_load_script.sh’). From the screenshots online, ‘c:\omwb\data_files’ seems contains files with the same name as the [tableName]. Therefore, I did a search with [tableName] but cannot find any apart from the [tableName].ctl file in the ‘c:\omwb\Omwb\sqlloader_scripts\SQLServer2K\<timestamp>\Oracle’ directory. What should I do next?
    OS: windows 2003 with SP1
    Oracle: 10g Release 2
    SQL Server 2000
Any help would be extremely appreciated.
    Helen

    Helen,
Sorry, I am new here. Could you please tell me (or point me to the related documents about) how to output the Oracle model as a script?Action-> Generate Migration Scripts
And what do you mean by ‘The default conversion may have failed’? Do you mean data type mapping? I went through all the columns and tables and checked the data types in the Oracle model already. The processing for the default for a table column could have something the basic workbench default parser cannot handle.
I hope you are finding the workbench to be a productive aid to migration.

    Turloch

This opens the Database Migration dialog box, which indicates the capture process starts normally. we get the following error:

I know , that we vcan nt insert null into migrlog table , then pls tell me how can  i resolve fro this problem  . is there any way to solve it,
i am not getting the reason,I thing it may be due to reason that , I have table's column in my source db with more than 30 character.
