Migrating music and all iTunes info from pc to Mac

I have just purchased my first Mac.. I have been totally unsuccessful migrating any information over.
I have even selected single folders and 10 hrs later no luck.
How do i get all of my itunes music, podcasts etc transfered over to my new Mac?
Help please...

First, you have to transfert your iTunes file from your PC to your Mac. To do so, you have to go to your music folder on your PC and locate the "iTunes" folder. Copy it to an external hardrive. Then, copy this folder on your Mac into the Music folder.
Now maintain the alt button on your Mac and open iTunes. It will ask you if you want create or locate your iTunes Library. Click on choose library. Select your iTunes folder.
You will then have all your playlists, music, videos, podcasts back.

how can I transfer all my info from my old macbook to my mac mini?
My Mac mini chash about one month ago and I got it back from apple, I didnt have a time michine back up for this one but in my old mac I have almost all my files, so I want to transfer all the data to the Mac mini with no problem

You can use migration assitant which is located in the Utility Folder under Applications. The compters can be connected via ethernet, fire wire, or wifi. My recommendation is not to use wifi.
You run migration assistant on both machines and you can choose to transfer everything or just data.
Another way is to use migration assistant to restore from a time machine backup.

  • Migrating Logic and all plug ins from old mac to new mac

    Hi,
I understand Migration Assistant will bring over all my old files from my Macbook Pro to my new Mac Pro.  My question is, I have Logic Pro 7 and authorization key (USB), my new Mac Pro has Logic Pro 9, can I use all my old music files by just using Migration Assistant?  What about registration or authorization?  What about my 3rd Party Plug ins?  Do I have to re install all of them, or will they come over as well through the Migration?  Anyone with any experience actually doing a similiar migration to mine, all advice or tips would rock.

some 3rd party plug ins you will have to reauthorize and it can be quite a pain but it does work. im not sure if your old logic files will work though

  • Sync on new IMac Contacts, photos, music and all without erasing from Iphone

My old computer's motherboard damaged and I bought a new IMac, I want to sync with my new IMac and it says all information will be erased and replaced with new Itunes contents, how do I sync with my new Imac without loosing my contacts, photos, photo albums, music etc..?
    Regards
    Hariche

    Welcome to the discussions,
Deselect automatic syncing and set up at least one contact and event on your Mac, this will give you the option to merge your calendar and contacts when your phone is restored from your backup.
To create this backup, connect your phone and backup manually by right clicking on your phone in the device list in itunes.
Transfer your purchases the same way.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Your phone will be wiped during your first sync and restored from the backup you made when you first connected.
Music and other media content can only be synced back if you bought it in the itunes store.
You'll have to use 3rd party software to be able to copy it back, search for touchcopy or similar programs.

What version of iTunes are you running on your computer? You need to update to the current version.

Backup do not contaiuns music or apps, you will either need to resync them from your itunes computer, or you can go to purchase history in itunes or app store app and go to purchase history and redownload them.

  • HT1386 I want to give me old iphone 4 to my daughter and need to get all her info from her old iphone onto a new computer.  The PC she synced with is dead and she does not want to loose all her contacts and music.

I want to give my old iphone 4 to my daughter and need to get all her info from her old iphone 3 onto a new computer.  The PC she synced with is dead and she does not want to loose all her contacts and music. How can I do this?

To effectively transfer ownership of the iPhone requires that it be "restored" as a new device.
...  The PC she synced with is dead
The iPhone is not a backup device. Your computer backs up the iPhone, not the other way around. What you use to back up your computer is up to you - Macs use Time Machine. I assume PCs use something similar.
If her PC backup is dead you will have difficulty extracting content from the iPhone since it is not designed to work that way.
All her Apple purchases can easily be transferred to another iPhone. However, her contacts will be gone, as will any music or other contact obtained from sources other than Apple.
There are a number of third party utilities that claim to be able to extract content from an iPhone. See wjosten's procedure here:

Restore your media from the backup of the computer created prior to restoring the computer.
You did create a backup, correct?  Not doing so would be extremely unintelligent.
iOS devices are NOT backup devices.

I have been lent a ipad and really hate it how do I delete all my info from it before giving it back.

Tap on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Store if it's on iOS 6) and logout of your account, and then do Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings

It just does't sync. I connect it to itunes, but nothing happens. Where it says how much space I have, it's just on ebig bar that says other. I can play my music on itunes, but not when i unplug it.
All of my photos were gone, i took and saved them with my ipod.
The photo app is saying restoring.
    What should i do?

  • I am trying to transfer my itunes library from my old Mac to my new Mac; however, all that transfers is the music I downloaded from itunes.  It does not transfer the music I downloaded from my cd's.

How do I transfer my itunes library from my old Mac to my new Mac?  When I try all that transfers is what I downloaded from Itunes.  It does not transfer the music I downloaded from my cd's/.

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168

2011 Transferring your iTunes library - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/  - An article with good background information, particularly if you are not sure your media files are all grouped for quick  solution above. Unfortunately it uses the single term "transferring library" for two very different moves; relocating just your media (not recommended unless you really need this configuration) and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.
If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
