Migrating Office 2001 Entourage files to Office 2004 Entourage

Does anyone know how to migrate Office 2001 Entourage files originally in OS 9.1, Calander events, address book contacts, tasks, notes, etc, to Office 2004 Entourage files in OS 10.04.
Thanks

If the OS 9 version of Entourage and its data files are on the same volume as OS X, then it's a simple matter of doing an import from Entourage 2004. The import function will provide a selection to import from a previous version. Check the radio button to Import from a Program.

  • Migration manager with Adobe CS2 and Microsoft Office 2004

I had already downloaded my academic copy of office 2008 as soon as I opened the computer. To my total aggravation, it too had the stupid ribbon format that office 2007 has on the pc version. Then to my total surprise when I used the migration manager, it moved all my old programs over from my macbook running 10.4.11. This included office 2004. It seems to operate just fine, but am worried about when I end up opening documents from an email or something that it will end up opening in 2008 instead. Also, when it moved my Adobe CS2 it said some type of error message about color matching. That seems to be the case in the color sliders at least, the colors don't look right, but the images seem fine when they open. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks!

Find a document you would normally open with Office 2004, and use the menu in the Finder to 'Get Info'.
In that window, you have an option to dictate which program to always open that file type with, and to apply that choice to all similar files.
Make the change and close that window.

  • Macbookpro & Microsoft Office 2004-Entourage shutting down

I have a 4 year old Macbook Pro running Microsoft Office 2004. Entourage started shutting down about 3 weeks ago when I would click on certain emails in both inbox and junk folder (spam emails mostly). I have latest patches, have you heard of this before?
    Is there a fix?

Sometimes Entourage's database would corrupt.  Sometimes you can't fix its corruption.  But you can try with the Entourage Database repair utility in your Microsoft Office folder in the Applications folder.  If it won't repair, hopefully you backed up your data before it last got damaged.  The database file, is in your Hard drive -> Users -> yourname -> Documents -> Microsoft Office Data folder, if you want to dig it out from a backup and try an older version of it.  Be sure not to overwrite your old one, unless you don't mind risking losing some e-mail, contact and calendar entries.

I received an email containing a spreadsheet created using Mac Office 2004 on my new MacBook Air equipped with Mac Office 2011.  When I saved the document, my Finder lists the document without the .xls file extension. Why?
All other .xls documents created by Mac Office 2004 retained the .xls file extention when I migrated them over to the new MacBook Air.

I know what happened.  When I saved the document I somehow hit the Hide File Extension box.  Sorry to trouble this group. I simply resaved it w/o activating the Hide File Extension feature.

Microsoft Office 2004 (Word) unable to save files
I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2004-macword/word-2004-wil l-not-open-or-save-documents/b04eb870-9b0d-4f3b-bb47-b122301e36f6
So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
    Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
    #2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk  of your internal drive  (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway)  or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
    #3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

    That's it really.

  • Office 2004 crashes in Leopard when using File print option.

Office 2004 apps all crash when I try to print using File>print but they will print if I just use the printer icon. Any ideas?? I have updated Office to 11.3.9 and uninstalled and reinstalled the printer. BTW, the printer is an HP Laserjet All-in-one model 3330. Everything else I've tried seems to print ok -- Safari, Adobe, Pages.
I would like to upgrade three other machines but I'm waiting until I get this print problem resolved.
    Thanks.

Well I feel sort of stupid, I was using the HP driver. Switching to either of the drivers supplied with Leopard fixed this problem. Thanks.

  • Can't open .cwk files in Office 2004 - Help

Hi, imac intel 24. Running latest software. I have several .cwk files from back when. Now, I can't open them. I believe they are spreadsheets but Office 2004 won't open them. Any ideas? I always get an error saying I need a 3rd party app. Thanks in advance.

Word 2004 can open AppleWorks word processing documents. I have never been able to get Excel to open an AppleWorks spreadsheet though I've seen a couple of other users say they could. Nothing other than AppleWorks can open AppleWorks draw, paint or database files.
You can try icExcel from Panergy Software which can open AppleWorks 5 & 6 spreadsheets. It doesn't save as Excel, but will save as text.
The best option I can think of is to get AppleWorks for your Mac. It will run very well on an Intel Mac.
Since this question is really about opening AppleWorks files, the better place to post would have been the AppleWorks forum. When a question is about using Office, I would normally suggest posting in the Microsoft newsgroup, but I doubt you'd find many users who know anything about AppleWorks.

  • How can I revert to previous Entourage prior to Microsoft office 2004 update

    I have a 2002 eMac  OS X 10.4.11 bought second hand 5 years ago.
I have been successfully using Entourage for all my email.
On Friday the system updates required(?) me to update Adobe Reader.
Immediately afterwards there appeared an update for Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac. I let it run the update.
A new and different Entourage appeared, without all my emails, addresses etc.
Just one email in it welcoming me to 'Microsoft office 2004 for Mac 11.6.3 update'.
    I don't have OS X 11.6.3
I have tried everything to get rid of this and get my old Entourage back.
I tried to Edit the Accounts in Entourage  - tools - Mail (tab) but it won't highlight the Edit, so I couldn't configure it manually, and delete the existing Entourage Account.
I tried putting Microsoft Office into the Trash but that didn't seem to work either.
    Nothing seems to work.

Mac users using Word 2004 who receive a Word 2008 for Mac, (or Word 2007 for Windows) document, will not be albe to read this without having the Open XML Converter installed, which can be downloaded from Microsoft.
    Go to this page:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx
and click on the right under Most Popular, 'Open XML File Format Converter for Mac 1.0.2'
This opens a window at the bottom of the page. Scroll that to the bottom and click on English.dmg, and it will download for you as a disk image, which can be installed in the usual way.
After installation you can open and read .xml formatted Word 2008 documents in Word 2004.
Update: This link  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976831  takes you to a newer version 1.1.3 (released Nov 10, 2009).

Visit  Microsoft  at this site download converter.Install drag XML file and it creates a standard .doc, .xls or .ppt copy on your desktop.
Its free and works a charm.
NO need to spend a penny/cent

  • Is Entourage available for sale separately from Office 2004?

Is Entourage offered as a stand-alone product? I'd like to use it but apparently I'd have to buy the entire $399 Office 2004 product.
    Thanks,
    Roland Thomas

Not according to Microsoft. Entourage is only available as part of Office 2004 X. The Student Teacher Edition is $149 MSRP.

  • No file locking in office 2004 with local user

A user shares his home folder on Mac OS X 10.5.8. This user has a Excel file open in Office 2004. When an other user opens the same file using AFP file sharing there is no message warning the user the file is being modified by the local user.
All software is up-to-date. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
This problem does not occur in Office 2008 with 10.6 clients.

    Other options?

It's not that simple. You didn't lose your Office 2004 suite. Office 2004 won't run in Mountain Lion. You need to update your Office software. You need to purchase either Office 2008 or 2011. Either one can run in Mountain Lion.

Just thinking, if things are really missing...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Problem with .docx files and Office 2004

After the upgrade to Snow Leopard, I now am receiving a message "There is not enough memory or disk space to convert." when I try to open a Office 2007/2008 docx file. The error does not happen on all docx files, but only on files over 100kb. The same files that do not work now, all worked prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard. I am using a fully patched Office 2004 (11.5) in addition to the open XML compatibility software 1.1.1 from Microsoft. I have removed all error and duplicate fonts and repaired disk permissions.
I have looked on both Apple and Microsoft for an answer, but nothing except Microsoft claiming Office 2008 will work seamlessly with Snow Leopard.

I just came across this problem too. Very frustrating. I just got this new MacBook Pro last week (so I'm using Snow Leopard too). I installed Office 2004, updated it to 11.5, and installed the open XML conversion software, but no dice. I absolutely should have plenty of memory and disk space to do any docx conversion.
Also, I'm only trying to convert a 20KB docx file, so large file size isn't an issue here. And my copy of Office 2004 is totally legit, in case that's a question.
I really need to be able to open docx files for work, so this is a real problem for me. Help me, Apple-wan Kenobi!
