Migrating only some users

Hi All,
I'm preparing to migrate the mail services from a 10.3.4 server to a 10.4.8 box. I know to upgrade the old system to 10.3.9 first, and save various files in /etc/httpd/ and /var/db/squirrelmail/, and so forth.
But I don't want to bring over some older, defunct users. I deleted them in WGM but of course their files in /var/spool/imap/user/[user] remain.
If I move only the folders in /var/spool/imap/user/ for the users I want, and export the list (without them) from WGM, will the new one build properly when I run the upgradedb command as outlined in Apple's Migration manual?
Or, what if I just delete their messages folders outright via ssh before the migration?
Any tips would be most appreciated.

Before you migrate, delete unwanted users in WGM.
Next delete their mailboxes with SirAdmin:

Next make a backup of your old mailserver using mailbfr (just in case :-):

(Do not use mailbfr to restore onto 10.4 since your setup will be different)
Create/Import your users on the new server with WGM
Then follow Apple's instructions.

New MacBook Air (10.8.4) and want to migrate only some of my programs from old MacBook (10.6.8). Haven't tried it yet, but in looking at Migration Assistant, I only see an option to tick of for all applications.
I'll be doing it through a cloned external drive.
Is MA the best way to do it? Is there a way to only move a few applications? How do I be certain that I get everything that goes with a program. (Thinking particularly about Lightroom and Photoshop CS6.)

As for your apps: Depending on what they are, you might want to check to make sure they are compatible with Mountain Lion:

As for accounts: since there is a user account set up initially, using MA will generate a second (equal) one. It will create somewhat of a mess as you will need to delete whatever you don't want manually and/or move over from one to the other.
Additional thought:
since you bought it used - did it come with Mountain Lion originally?
Just in case it did not, did the seller give you the original install disks? If not, you'll have to contact the seller or Apple sooner or later. If Mountain Lion is purchased at the app store, the license is not transferable and tied to the purchaser's Apple ID forever. That means you will never be able to reinstall the OS if needed. You'd need to get the install disk, wipe the drive, and reinstall the original OS; after that, go to the app store and purchase your own Mountain Lion license using your Apple ID.

"Missing signed entry in resource" for only some users

Hi,
I have recently updated my .jnlp file and .jar file and added some extra jar resources in the new jnlp.
Since this new version, some users receive an error saying
"Missing signed entry in resource:" for one particular resource.
While for other users it works fine.
I have signed the jar with jarsigner.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem here?

I remember hearing something like this, and had to do with :
1.) what version of jarsigner was used to sign the jar, and
2.) what version of JRE was used to validate the signed jar file on the client.
(including US only vs. International version of JRE)
For the jar that gets this error:
Does it have any empty directories in it., or does it have entries with non-english characters in the resource names ?
What version of the JDK was used to run jarsigner to sign this jar, and what jre is the application running on ?

Import only some user tables

we have every day full export backup in eacly morning. but some tables's data has been delete unforutnaltely
& structure of these tables intact. please anyone can suggest me how do i import only some tables of a user from

How to migrate only some photos from external hard drive/Time Machine to new Mac?

I just bought a new MacBook Air, after my old Macbook died. Luckily I had everything from the old computer backed up on an external hard drive through time machine. However, when I tried to migrate everything to my new computer, I found I do not have enough room for all of the files. I would like to import just some of the photos/albums from my old Iphoto Library but it looks like I can only migrate the entire library, or else nothing at all? Since I don't have enough space on the new computer, it's not allowing me to import any photos. Is there a way around this?

With iPhoto it's all or nothing. Therefore get a second EHD to restore the library to. Then you can duplicate the library, open the duplicated and delete all of the photos you don't want in it. When that library is small enough to fit on your MBA copy it to the Pictures folder.
Then you can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to copy new events from your MBA library to the library on the 2nd EHD to keep it up to date with all of your photo. There are portable EHDs that are not much bigger than a mouse (the computer kind ) that would work fine for this.

I was given a 2010 17" MacBook Pro. I want to reset it to new and then migrate only SOME of my data from my older Mac Book Pro to the newer one. How?

A friend gave me a 17" MacBook Pro used for only one project. (Lucky me) I want to reset/register the laptop as new and need to know how to do that.

I need to migrate data from my older Macbook Pro to the newer one. I don't want to migrate all of the data. I have been moving data from one computer to another for 15 years and want to move only what is current and what I now need (Good-bye Quark files)--can I do that? How? Also, the older laptop is running Lion. The "new" one is running Leopard. Is that an issue? Do I need to upgrade the newer laptop to Lion first?

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
Unfortunately, Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant are set up to migrate your entire Home folder, third-party applcations and support files, and system preferences. If you use the Setup Assistant that opens the first time you boot Lion after installing, then you should migrate your Home folder, etc. This is the easiest way to do it.
Once migration is finished you can delete what you don't want.

Remote control issue with only some users

I'm having an issue that I can't seem to find any reference to anywhere.
Our client has two servers. One is Server 2003 and is running AD, the other is 2008R2 and is running terminal services.
When I create a new user in AD, if I set the option in AD to allow remote control, do not require permission and interact and I set these options before the first time the user logs into the terminal then I can remote control that user's session without
a problem.
However, if I leave the defaults in AD to allow remote control but require the user's permission and the user logs into the terminal the first time with permissions set like that then forever more I can never remote into that user's sessions. Changing the
options in AD later to not require user's permission no longer helps. When I try to remote into that user's session the user does not get a pop-up requesting permission, rather I just get an Access Denied message. If I try to shadow via an elevated command
prompt I get error 317. I haven't been able to find any differences in GP or the registry between users that I can shadow and those I can't. Some setting specific to each user is getting set on first login that can't seem to be undone by changing the settings
in AD. Where might I find this?

added under GPO setting “Allow logon through Remote Desktop Services” and
not added under “Deny logon through Remote Desktop Services”.

Outlook asking for username and password, but only for some users

Hello, I'm
in an Exchange Server 2013 client
environment, two CAS servers
and two Mailbox.
Some users are having trouble in Outlook 2007
and 2012, which is directly
requesting the user name and password, not all,
just some.
The Active Directory is ok,
DNS and also own Exchange
servers apparently do not see errors.
Has anyone here ever experienced this?
How can I solve this problem?
As this happens only to some users
and the vast majority have no problems, so
difficult to find the cause.

Hi Ivanildo,
From your description, only some users have an issue that Outlook prompts for username and password. In your case, I recommend you compare the normal and problematic Outlook settings. Here is the Outlook settings in my environment for your reference:
1. "Always prompt for logon credentials" isn't checked.
2. Logon network security using Negotiate Authentication.
3. "Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP" is checked.
4. Use the NTLM Authentication when connecting to my proxy server for Exchange.

Is it possibe to make a channel visible only to some users?

Hi,
I am using iPS3.0SP3a, I have LDAP authentication enabled and I want some of the JSP provider channels that I created to be visible to only some users and not all. For example: the admin channel, this channel must be visible only to the users belonging to the admin group on the ldap server.
Any help is certainly appreciated.

Yes, it is possible to make the channel visible to some users alone. Though the authentication is done in LDAP, the user profiles are maintained within Portal.
1) To remove the channels for particular users, we can put them in a role say test_role. Now goto Admin Console | Manage Domains | Domain_Name | test_role | open 'Applications' key and click 'Desktop'.
2) Now choose the channel you want to remove, from the 'Selected Channel' lists and 'delete'. Apply the changes to all sub-roles and submit.
3) Restart the Server for the changes to take effect.
Similarly we can do this setting for individual users as well. Hope this helps.

Some users can't see whiteboards

So here's a weird problem. Only some users in my meeting rooms can see the whiteboards. I've tried clearing the cache, cookies, Flash cookies, etc, but that doesn't resolve the problem. This has happened to me twice today. I'm running Adobe Connect 8.2.0.0 with Add-in 9.4.81.0 on a hosted server with Flash Player 11.1.102.63.
Below is a comparison of what two users see:

I think you would need to give more details on the problem,
as <b>some</b> users are not able to see <b>some</b> attributes.
Do they all share the same profile, what is the distinguishing thing among the some users who can see the attributes and the ones who cannot see the attributes.
Need to drill down further I guess.

Yes, that's why I recommend one have more than TimeMachine as a backup because if certain files or folders are corrupted on the TM drive, your not logging into your migrated user account or not be able to transfer it what so ever.
Then it's a REAL PAIN and costs $99 to bit read the TM drive to get the files out, then it's mess to go through and sort all the empty placeholders from the real files as TM doesn't save duplicates in each state, just uses the previous state's copy if there are no changes.
If you create the same named user account on the new machine, and simply transfer files via a USB thumb drive and place say music contents into the Music folder, then it will work too.
Look into making clones of your boot drive, the benefit here is it's bootable, you can access the drive directly to pick and choose files, run the computer just like before etc.

OBIEE access denied for some users only

we are using OBIEE 10.1.3.4 version on windows envorinment .The users can access the OBIEE reports using 'PORTALPATH' session varible in RPD.For some of the users are got "access denied" while they are accessing for thir particular dashboard.Eariler these user got access this dashboard with out any errors.We dnt changed in our system anything from last three months.
We have no idea why we are getting these error for particular users only.Its Prod issue we need to reslove these error ASAP.

Well its Prod (you have a dashboard called testdashboard in Prod?) anyway - someone might have changed the presentation catalogue permissions on the dashboard. All it takes is for someone to remove 'Everyone' or change a Group permission and it could effect.
If they changed the Parent folder and cascaded the changes down this might cause this issue.
You have a folder called 'Shared' - check the groups that the people are in have 'Traverse' , 'Read' or higher. Also chek dashboard permissions themselves from Settings-Manage Interactive Dashboards - Check the Padlock icon.
Are you users getting allocated into the correct WEBGROUPS ? Is this assisngment done explicitly in the webcat or via an RPD Variable ? Have you checked NQQueryl.log to make sure any init blocks are completing successfully?
Either persmissions have changed or group memebership is not completing.

Assignment of Transaction variant to some users only

I have created one transaction variant for T.code:MM02. With this some fields were made display mode. I want assign this Transaction variant to few of the users only not all users. That is for others the above are changeble.
So I want to know how to assign this transaction variant to respective users only. If I activate this as standard variant, it is applicable to all. But I want to assign to few only.

Migration for only some selected programmes.

Today I bought a new MacBook Pro 13" Retina. No I like to copy Photoshop CS6 and some NIK porgrammes from my 2010 iMac to the new MakBook. 1. Is it possible to migrate only one or selected programmes from one mac to the other? And if not, what will be with the belonging files, for example music files when copieing itunes? I don´t want these files or all programmes on my new machine. I know I can install again from DVD, but I have lost all my original intall DVD´s. Thank you for your help!

Most software - such as the CS6 applications or packages - can be downloaded from the vendor and you no longer need a CD/DVD. You will need your activation codes, however.
You can't just copy the applications themselves as this does not copy the support files. If I were you, I would use Migration Assistant to transfer everything. That would be the easist way to handle it.

How to restrict a user group of SQ01 for only execution for some users

Hi,
   I would like to know if it is possible to restrict the access to SQ01 transaction for some users. I would like that these users have only execution access to some queries associated with an user group.
   Do I have to associate the user group to the users I want to have access to it? How can I do it=
   Do I have to associate the queries created on SQ01 to the users? or it is enough to assign the users to the user group where the queries are defined?
   Do I have to associate the infosets created on SQ02 to the users? or it is enough to assign the users to the user group to which the infosets are associated?

I suggest you do a web search on SQ01 and SQ02. That'll bring along SQ03 as well.
