Migrating Oracle Apps from 11.5.5 on Windows 2000 to 11.5.8 on Windows 2003

Currently we are running Oracle Applications 11.5.5 on Windows 2000 Server. We want to migrate to faster machines running Windows 2003 Server.
11.5.5 is not supported on Windows 2003. We will need to upgrate to at least 11.5.8.
Can you please suggest what is the best way to do this:
1- Upgrade 11.5.5 to 11.5.8 on Windows 2000
2- Install 11.5.8 on Windows 2003 Server. (Where would I get 11.5.8 from? Does Oracle ship older versions? I have CDs for 11.5.5 only).
3- Export/import the database
4- Move the customazitions over
1- Install 11.5.5 on Windows 2003 Server. (11.5.5 is not supported on Windows 2003. Can we temporarily install it still; and upgrade it soon to 11.5.8?)
2- Uprade 11.5.5 to 11.5.8 on Windows 2003 Server.
3- Export/import the database
4- Move the customazitions over
Thanks in advance.
Earliest attention is appreciated.

Hasan Mir

  • Complexities of Migrating Oracle 10g from Solaris to HP-UX Itanium

Can anyone share their experiences with regards to migrating Oracle 10g from Solaris on a Sun platform to HP-UX 11i v3 (Itanium) on HP Integrity servers. We are trying to consider all the risks associated with such a move. How much time delay did you experience in resolving unexpected issues along the way? How complex is the process? If you had to do it all over again, would you?
In addtion, we will also be migrating Oracle eBusiness Suite 11i (11.5.10.2).
    We appreciate your helpful feedback.
    Thank you.

    Here is more information:
    - the database size is currently about 500GB
    - our ASP allows us to be down as much as we want however the company's own needs can only allow a downtime window of two days (over the weekend)
    - i presume further that RMAN might be an option to use to backup the database and instance to some transportable media
    - it would take about four days to get that media from the ASP to our facility so durign that time the instance at the ASP would have to be used
    - after we get the backup media and load everything into our in-house site, our last step would be to find a way to migrate all changes over the WAN. I am told that unless the platforms are the same on both ends, mirroring will be extremely difficult or impossible. If we have a platform that is different from the ASP platform, then the migration of all changes will require conversion and other mechanisms. I am told that HP-UX has so much complexities that this will be a daunting task to accomplish.
Do you have any opinions and recommnedations?

  • Migrate essbase app from 6 to 9

planning to migrate the app from essbase 6 to esbase 9.to a whole new server.
Any issues with that...any doc on migration from 6 would be useful.
    its urgent

I started to migrate from 6.6 to 9.3.1 and it went quite smooth. What I have done:
    Installed the server.
Used the config tool and removed shared services registration.
    Copied essbase.cfg to new installation.
Had to add the env variables manually on AIX from the hyperionenv.doc.
    Installed the eas server.
Used config tool for config and deployment of eas on std settings.
Installed the eas client and used the migration tool to migrate some databases to the new server from a 6.6 (6.6 running on different machine than 9.3)
Tested our batch processing for data load, security transfers, data staging etc. which uses some api interfaces and ESSCMD and maxl scripts. All without any problems. All settings were kept the same as on the old systems (essbase.cfg, db settings, app settings).

  • Migrate Oracle Apps Forms to J2EE

    Hi,
I need to migrate Oracle Apps(11i) Forms to J2EE.
I went through Oracle Partners who provide these migration tools but none provides trial version to test/use.
    How do I migrate forms.
Or is there any way so that I can replace forms with my custom screens?
    Need your help.

Its probably too long an answer to write here but I always like to start with the WHY?
The one thing that is fact is that this will cost you considerable time and effort so you have to be very clear on your reasons. Furthermore, there is no "magic bullet". There is no tool or solution that can "with one click" migrate your application - unless your application is Emp/Dept of course ;o)
You also have to seriously consider the need (infact I would say REQUIREMENT) that any migration MUST rearchitect. A Forms app and a J2EE app are very different, if you don't re-architect then you are re-implementing Forms in Java (in which case, why bother).
If you go to http://otn.oracle.com/goto/formsmodernize there is information that we in Oracle see as the most likely approach to succeed - which is retain an investment in Forms while you build up skills/services/functionality in your new system
I'd suggest spending a couple of hours reading this information and then if you have further questions you can come back to us.
    Regards
    Grant

  • Migrate Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 from Sun solaris to RHE Linux 32 bit.

We are migrating the Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 from Solaris two node to Linux two node including the database Oracle 10.2.04 64 bit.
Since the applications only support 32 bit we are not able to store CM tier in a 64 bit Linux so with this considerations we are going with the below plan.
    1. Install RHEL 5 as a 32 bit for two nodes ( One for DB/CM and FORMS/WEB)
    2. Migrate the applications and DB from Solaris to Linux as the same node configuration that is
    Node A:
    Oracle DB 10.2.0.4 64 bit ( SUN oS 10 64bit) -> Oracle 10.2.0.5 32bit (RHEL 5 32 bit)
    Oracle Apps CM 11.5.10.2 (SUN OS 10 64bit) -> Oracle apps CM 32 bit(RHEL 5 32 bit)
    Node B:
    Oracle apps 11.5.10.2 forms (sun OS 10) -> Oracle apps 11.5.10.2 forms ( RHEL 5 32bit)
    Oracle apps WEB 11.5.10.2 (SUN OS 10) -> Oracle apps WEB 11.5.10.2 ( RHEL 5 32 bit).
Question : 1. Did you see any snag on this kind of migration
    2. Any documentation to migrate the Oracle APPS 11i 10.2.0.4-64 bit database from Sun Solaris to oracle apps 11i 10.2.0.5-32 bit on Linux

    Hi,
    1. Did you see any snag on this kind of migrationWhy would you downgrade the db from 64 bit to 32 bit. As 32 Bit has lot of memory limitations.
You could keep the database on 64 bit for linux too.
    2. Any documentation to migrate the Oracle APPS 11i 10.2.0.4-64 bit database from Sun Solaris to oracle apps 11i 10.2.0.5-32 bit on Linux Please see

  • Migrate Oracle Apps Instance from one server to another

    Hi All,
We are planning on migrating our Production Oracle Apps Instance(11.5.10.2 and 9.2.0.8) on HP Tru64 UNIX OS on one server to a different server(Node name change) with the same OS. This is a single node, single OS user instance(Apps and DB on the same box). Can you please give me a brief idea on how to go about doing this?
    Thank you.

Since you will be using the same OS, then you can simply use Rapid Clone to migrate the Application/Database.
Rapid Clone Documentation Resources, Release 11i and 12 [ID 799735.1]
Make sure you have all OS pre-req. software and packages installed on the target nodes before you clone the instance.

  • Migration of Oracle Apps from HP-UX to Linux

    Hi Experts,
We have plan to migrate the Oracle Application from HP-UX to Linux OS. Can you please suggest me the road map to be followed :
    requirement :
    Source : 11.5.10.2 + 10.2.0.4 (DB) : HP-UX
    Target need to be : 11.5.10.2 + 11.2.0.2 (DB ) RHEL 64-Bit
Would be grateful , if you suggest the road-map. And suggest if the DB upgrade to be done in the beginning or after the migration.
And also , please provide the note ids to be followed for each activity.

    Hi,
At high-end you will have to break up your work into 02 level:
    1. Perform a platform migration from HP-UX to Linux
    2. Upgrade the Database to 11.2.0.3 from 10.2.0.4
Note: I was aware your target database was 11.2.0.2, but since the latest update is 11.2.0.3  I recommend you do the same.
    1. Perform a platform migration from HP-UX to Linux
HP and Linux share a different endian format, therefore you will have to proceed migrating your database via and export/import (you may not be able to use Transportable tablespace).

  • Upgrade the Oracle Apps from 11.5.10.2 from windows 32 bit to R12 OEL 64bit

    Hi Frnz,
We are planning to upgrade the Oracle application from 11.5.10.2 from windows 32 bit to Oracle apps R12 OEL 64 bit.
As I go through the Metalink documents and came to know the below Path to proceed with the R12 upgrade for our scenario (2 phase process).
Phase1 - Upgrade in the source windows OS Machine :
    1)Upgrade the Database to latest version of 11G R2 (11.2.0.1/11.2.0.2) [if 9.2.0.8 to 11gR2, refer metalink note 881505.1 & 1265268.1]
2)Upgrade Application from 11.5.10.2 to R12.1.1 in windows Machine
3)Upgrade Application from R12.1.1 to R12.1.3 in windows Machine
Phase2 - Migration Process from windows to Linux:
1)Migrate R12.1.3 Application from *32bit windows to OEL 64bit*. (I could not found the exact document for this Cross Platform Migration)
    Note:
As per the metalink note, we identified that, Oracle 11.5.10.2 Application will not support for the 64bit Linux.
    Reference:
Migrating to Linux with Oracle Applications Release 11i [ID 238276.1]

Does DB Server have a hostname & IP# that can be resolved & accessed from anywhere on the Internet?
If so, post those details here.

  • How to access Oracle Apps from Linux or Unix Client

I want to access Oracle Apps 11i from a linux client or Unix client, but I don't have jinit for linux or Unix
    regards,

    Hi,
That is not a problem just you can get in to linux inet browser and put the hostname.domainname.com:portnumber/OA_HTML/US/ICSINDEX.HTM
So that you can get the apps sign on screen will be launched up and available to access in to Oracle applications.
The work could be done in solaris browser and linux browser is possible.
