  • How to Migrate my database from SQL Server 2000 to Oracle

I want to transfer my database from SQL Server 2000 to Oracle, Can I do this without using Oracle Migration Workbench ??
    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance
    Vicky... :-)

Do you have a good technical reason for not wanting to use the Migration Workbench?
Given that it's free and does a hell of a lot of the work for you, why wouldn't you use it?
Other than that, I would say you would be on your own...

  • Migrating OBIEE Repfrom Oracle database to SQL server database in Solaris.

    Hi,
I need inputs in how we would migrate our connections in Repository from Oracle database to SQL server database in Sloaris server.
    Is there a complication here.
    Regards,
    Bhavik

Well that makes more sense, you probably have phrased your question better. Microsoft SQL Server Connectivity Components are not supported in any other operating system than Windows. So you will not be able to use the SQL Server native drivers to connect to your SQL Server. ODBC it's an option but there aren't many ODBC drivers for Unix systems. Luckily for you OBIEE includes the DataDirect ODBC drivers and supports using them to connect to a SQL Server. Check [the documentation|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/e10416/general_101331.htm#sthref9] on how to use them. Having said that I would say that whoever is pushing to move your DWH to SQL Server should consider also moving OBIEE to a Windows server to be able to use the SQL Server native drivers to connect to SQL Server.
PS: No needs to post 3 times. :-)

  • Oracle 8i vs SQL Server 2000

Can anyone point me to a good source that can explain the advantages of using Oracle 8i vs SQL Server 2000 for Data Warehousing and business intelligence as well as for running a ebusiness ?
We have a client who is interested in SQL sever and we are an Oracle shop.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I have the same question. But I am searching on the net for a council or vendor who gives the services for comparing different products. It is available for CRM, but i am not sure about databases.
Another I think If we can ask the client about why he has chosed sql server then we will be clear.
I see the only advantage of sql server 2000 is to have the olap, dts in built with the sql server product.
Any let me also know please. Thanks.

  • How to load oracle data into SQL SERVER 2000?

how to load oracle data into SQL SERVER 2000.
    IS THERE ANY UTILITY AVAILABLE?

Not a concern for an Oracle forum.
    Als no need for SHOUTING.
    Conventional solutions are
    - dump the data to a csv file and load it in Mickeysoft SQL server
    - use Oracle Heterogeneous services
    - use Mickeysoft DTS
    Whatever you prefer.

  • Migrating 250gb from ms sql server 2000 to oracle

    Hi,
i am trying to migrate data from sql server 2000 to oracle. I have tried the online method and it takes more than a day to copy one table with 250 million rows. Currently i am trying the offline method of using migration scripts with sql loader.
this also seems to be taking a very long time for the single table with 250 million rows. Is there an effective way of doing this? please help
    thanks

Well, lets look at what you're doing. You're using jdbc/odbc to move 250,000,000 rows. thats like using a straw to pump gas. We recommend that any migration over 10-20 MB should be done using the offline data move.
    A couple of questions
    1. How fast does the bcp go? How long does it take to complete?
    2. When using SQL Loader, are you loading it in raw format? Have you switched off any indexes on the table? Do you have the capability to load in parallel?
Theres a lot you can do with the SQL Loader side to make it a lot fast. You might also want to consider dropping a note on the database forum too.

  • Transfering information between Oracle 8 and SQL Server 2000

I want to transfer some of the data stored in 4 different tables in my Oracle database and easy as possible to my SQL Server 2000 database. I found the import option in SQL2k which uses ODBCconnection to the Oracle but it needs the migration suit as far as I know. At the downloadarea there are only plug-ins for SQL Server 7 but not 2000.
Am I even on the right track or is there any other way of accomplishing this?

is there any known problem if I install Oracle 10g EE
on the same machine where Sql Server 2000 EE is
install? It's presently undocumented, but some of the ORACLE.EXE process threads are known to get stuck in an infinite loop whenever a SQL Server database is running on the same box. The infinite loops cause the SQL Server database to eventually shutdown, and then the loops are broken and Oracle returns to normal. Stack traces have revealed something like this, which would suggest that the Oracle process is actually communicating with SQL Server:
Oracle:  laughAtGirlieDatabase()  /* infinite loop */
    SQL:     exit();-)

  • How to convert Oracle database to Sql server Database

Try using the DTS (data transformation services) services of SQL Server 2000
DTS is based on an OLE DB architecture that allows you to copy and transform data from a variety of data sources. For example: Oracle directly, using native OLE DB providers.
Alternatively, you could follow the following broad steps for data migration (assuming you are retaining the same table structures in SQL Server, and that you are talking about SQL Server 2000).
    1. Get the CREATE scripts corresponding to each Oracle table / view / index. These can be reverse engineered from the database using a tool.
    2. Map Oracle datatypes to SQL server datatypes e.g: date maps to datetime/smalldatetime, numeric maps to one of int, bigint, smallint, etc depending on the range of values in the CREATE scripts.
    3. Indexes in SQL Server are of two types: Clustered / non-clustered. There can only be one clustered index on each table.
    4. Converting procedures and triggers will have to be line by line, since SQL Server uses a proprietary T-SQL instead of ORacle's PL/SQL
I have yet to see a really good tool to do this migration, but it is possible to write a PL/SQL procedure / Pro*C program to automate the script creation for creating tables in the SQL Server database.
For the actual data import into SQL Server, export the Oracle data table by table into flat files, and then use the import wizard of SQL Server enterprise manager

  • Data Import from Oracle Dump to SQL Server(2000/2005)

    Hi Friends,
    I'm using Oracle 10g.
    I've a scenario.
I've Oracle Dump file. Now i would like import in SQL Server(2000/2005).
Can any one suggest me how to do this?
Any idea, clue will be highly appreciated.

I think you will need to import the data into SQL Server from an ASCII flat file using SQL Server DTS if avialable. You can use SQL Plus to extract the data outof Oracle into comma delimited flat files and then use SQL Server DTS load into the SQL Server database.

  • Oracle 9i to SQL Server 2000 Connectivity

I want to connect to SQL Server 2000 from an Oracle 9i on Solaris.
Both these machines are within the same TCP/IP network and can be pinged.
Please tell me what I need to do.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    You have 2 major options:
    1. Use Generic Connectivity with your Oracle 9i database running on Solaris. However it requires a proper ODBC-Driver to be installed on Solaris capable of connecting to Microsoft SQL Server
MetaLink DocID: 245549.1 - How to setup Generic Connectivity - HSODBC - on SUN Solaris
Remark: Oracle 9i has been de-supported, should you run into new bugs they wouldn't be fixed by Oracle
    2. Install and use the Database Gateway for ODBC 11g on the same machine which hosts the SQL Server database. Usage of this gateway is included in the Oracle database license. DG4ODBC also requires an ODBC-Driver but this one is mostly already present.
Another option would be to install the Database Gateway for MS SQL Server (DG4MSQL) 11g on the same machine which hosts the SQL Server database. However this gateway requires an additional license. The big advantage of this gateway over DG4ODBC is that it supports the two phase commit protocol (distributed updates) and calling of SQL Server stored procedures. Also the dataype mapping is better compared to DG4ODBC.
One thing though; in order for you Oracle 9i database to cooperate with one of the 11g gateways a patch for bug 5965763 on top of 9.2.0.8.0 is required. See also MetaLink DocID: 457808.1 for more details.
I hope this get you going.

    Ed

    1. create odbc for yuoer database .
    2. your oracle must install OCA (Oracle client Adapter ) that come with CD install form
    3. test connect with sqlplus like this
    user_name/pwd@odbc:odbc
    4. use this connect in your form
    5. finished.
sometime i have problem with 6i . i cannot connect so i have to copy file UB80*.dll from CD install 6 and replace in 6i

  • Replication of table from Oracle 10g to sql server 2000

Could i replicate table from Oracle 10g to sql server online. we have tables with same configuration and if any change happen in oracle 10g or sql server in that table we need to replicate that change to other database.
What is the solution for this two way replication between sql server and Oracle 10g

But the tutorial is saying that i will have to install Oracle database on the server already having sql server, is it client or whole database, if it is then it will acquire lot of resource.
I want to find out that for Heterogenous Service ODBC, we need third party software for ODBC Driver of SQL SERVER for Linux and secondly if we use Transparent Gateway then what are the steps for its configuration.
I could not find steps of configuration of Transoparent gateway, when i am trying to install Transparent gateway from Universal installer, it is not there. where do i find it , Do i need to purchase it too.
