Migrating photos from Aperture to Lightroom when you can't open Aperture

Is there an easy way to import Aperture photos into Lightroom if you no longer have access to Aperture? My version of Aperture is so old it doesn't work with Maverick. I moved to Lightroom years ago, but it sure would be nice if I could get at those photos easily.

Have you gone to printer who have warned you about the quality?
For the type of printing that you want you would need 300dpi for good quality. For A4 paper that would be a pixel size of 3,500 x 2,500 approximately. Are your exported files that size? Are your files in Aperture that size? Look at the Megadata.
If you don't require magazine quality then a smaller image can be used, but will result in reduced quality.

  • How do I migrate photos from iPhoto into Lightroom 5?

Okay. I've got all my photos organised in iPhoto, but I've seen the writing on the wall about Apple discontinuing iPhoto.
So I've taken out a subscription for Creative Cloud 2014 including Photoshop & Lightroom 5.
My question is:- How do I migrate all my photos including organising them into Events / Collections from iPhoto to Lightroom 5?
I've seen a tutorial that recommended downloading a free trial of Photoshop Elements 12 to use that as a sort of 'missing link' between the two apps, but it didn't work in that it didn't keep my photos organised in Events / Collections. I just ended up with a load of esoterically generically named folders which made no sense.
Surely there must be a way, shouldn't there?

Have you tried some of the online articles?

does anyone know how to take photos from IPHOTO into Lightroom?

Because Apple has dropped "Aperture" and is switching users away from "iPhoto" to a new photo application called "Photo" so that they are more fully integrated with the Yosemite 10 and the iOS 8.3 going forward there are some instructions how to import photos into Lightroom without losing to much metadata or other information. Go under Lightroom help and follow he instructions.

  • Getting message: 'You can't open your current photo library using this...

    Hello,
I use iPhoto 6.0.6. After inserting a CD with a friend's photos, I got the error message: 'You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.' The only option is to quit.
This now happens every time I try to open iPhoto. I have tried to upgrade, but am I right in presuming that I need to pay for anything above 6.0.6 (which I don't want to do at the moment)?
I get the message every time I open iPhoto, meaning it is completely unusable.
    Please can anyone help?
    Kind regards,
    Dan

Hi, honeytrappist. Any time iPhoto has access to any iPhoto library that was created by a later version it will put up that error message. When iPhoto burns a CD, it creates an iPhoto Library on the CD. So if someone with iPhoto 7 gives you a CD burned in that version, it's going to result in that error message whenever the CD is in your Mac and you try to open iPhoto 6.
If someone who has iP 7 wants to give pictures to you, ask him to export them to the desktop and then burn you a CD in the Finder. That way they won't come packaged in an iP Library, the error message won't appear, and you'll be able to import them right into your own library.
With a CD that does produce the error message, what you'll have to do is quit iPhoto, extract the pictures you want from the library on the CD to a folder on your desktop, eject the CD, and then import the pictures into iPhoto.

I get this pop up when trying to create a photo book through the iPhoto store.
"Some or all of the photos you selected were downloaded from your published albums. You can only view these photos. To use them in an album or a slideshow or project, you must import them to your photo library."
The photos I have selected have already been imported so how and why do I do it all over again?
What do they mean by published albums?  I categorize them into photo albums for organizational purposes after I import them from my camera or phone. So why can't I put them into a book now?
I have over 400 photos selected for a photo book for my child's graduation gift so how can I tell which photos I have to do this to?
Please help. Any insight wouyld be appreciated.
    Confused and frustrated...

Give this a try:  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.

Why is it on the photo app is that when you add your photos to new albums and when you are deleting from camera roll it will delete photos from everywhere so therefore once your photos are in the albums you have chosen you cannot delete from camera roll

Your photos are actually all in the Camera Roll.  The album you create only contain pointers to these pictures.  Albums are like music playlists; when you delete a song from the playlist it doesn't delete the song from your music library.  But when you delete a song from your music library it will also be deleted from any playlists that it may have been in as well.

  • I've backup  my iPhoto on WD My Passport.  When I try to pull up the photos from the external hard drive onto a different computer,  it says "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto."  It says I have to use a later version.

After backing up my photos on a My Passport hard drive I can't open iphoto from the hard drive.  It says "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iphoto.  You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto."  I have done all the upgrades for iphoto.  Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

What versions of iPhoto and OS X are on each computer? You can find out by going to your iPhoto application (from the Applications folder), clicking it once to highlight it, and click cmd-i to open its information window. The version number is in the General tab.
Your version of OS X can be found from the Apple menu, then About This Mac.
The latest version of iPhoto (9.5.1) requires OS X 10.9, so if you have an older version of OS X on that computer, you will have to upgrade to Mavericks and then upgrade to the newer iPhoto.

  • Can I export photos from iphoto to lightroom?

can I export photos from iphoto to lightroom?

Not very knowledgeable on iPhoto are we?
The problem with iPhoto is it copies and or moves all your photo into it's database structure which is just a pain
It moves nothing. It can copy, or reference the images.
Even Picasa is better then iPhoto as it actually displays RAW images.
As Keith says, iPhoto work with every format that the OS supports - in other words all the same ones as Aperture.
iPhoto doesn't even support Adobe DNG format.
    Going for 0/3 ?
As for migrating from iPhoto to Lightroom:  Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.

  • How to import photos from iPhoto to Lightroom?

Hey Guys, How do I export photos from iPhoto to Lightroom? I deleted them from the SD Card so I cannot import them directly to Lightroom. Im using a mac so its all very confusing for me. Please help me., Hey Guys, How do I export photos from iPhoto to Lightroom? I deleted them from the SD Card so I cannot import them directly to Lightroom. Im using a mac so its all very confusing for me. Please help me.

To simply import the original files is quite a simple process.
Locate the iPhoto Library (default is your Pictures Folder). Right click on it and select "Show Package Contents".
Locate the Masters folder and drag it onto the Lightroom icon or an open Library window. This will invoke the Import command.
Be sure "Include Subfolders" is checked.
Now you can import all the original files.
If your goal is to maintain structure of the Events it gets a little more tedious. Drag the event onto the Lightroom icon or the Library window. Once imported you can group them into a Collection Name that mimics the Event.
    Repeat with other events.
With the impending demise of iPhoto and Aperture, I suspect Apple may be working with Adobe to develop an automated process that will also maintain metadata that was added in those programs. If you can wait a while, it may be worth it.

When trying to open iphoto I get the error message "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete." How do I fix this and get my photo's back?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
    Important:
As you're on 10.9.3 you'll need to update iPhoto to v9.5 before opening it. Use Software update.
