Migrating post paid to prepaid nightmare

Can someone tell me how long it takes to migrate a phone number from post paid to prepaid.  We purchased a prepaid phone last Monday...and have talked to customer service Wednesday for an hour...and Saturday night for over two hours...but still today they have not managed to migrate the number from our post paid verizon phone to our new verizon prepaid phone.  This is the same company, isn't it?  Why is this so hard?

Which phone do you have? Currently only 3G only smartphones can be activated on the Verizon Wireless prepaid plans for smartphones. You should also be out of contract for your postpaid account.

Can I switch from post paid to prepaid and keep my same number? Can I also keep my same phone? I very rarely use more than 2gb of data and could save $30/month if this is possible.

  • Verizon Prepaid Number Portability and Converting to Post Paid

    1. Are verizon prepaid numbers portable?  I don't plan on leaving verizon, but if I did, would I be able to keep the number?
    2. Can I convert my account to a post paid account at a later time?  Will I be able to keep the same number?
    3. If I move to a different area, will I be able to keep the same number, or will I be forced to get a new number with a different area code?
    4. I'm on the 99 cent plan for each day I use my phone.  If I buy the messaging bundle, and use messaging but do not make any calls on a day, am I still charged the 99 cents for the day?  Or is the 99 cents just for days I make calls?

Yes you can always take your number with you.
    2. Can I convert my account to a post paid account at a later time?  Will I be able to keep the same number?
Yes after having a prepaid account for 6 months you can convert it over to a contract account and keep your number.
    3. If I move to a different area, will I be able to keep the same number, or will I be forced to get a new number with a different area code?
As long as  your in the Verizon calling area you can keep your number

No you are not charged for texting you are only charged the  99 cents when you make a call or answer  a call. So if you text every day but do not make any calls you are not charged for the 99 cents.

  • Prepaid to post paid for moto g

I bought a Moto G on ebay.  The ad did not state, nor was I aware, that these are prepaid phones.  I wanted it because I am still under contract with a line and the phone is dying.  In all the research (several discussion groups on the internet as well as this one), it appears these cannot be used on a post paid line until they have been activated and used on a prepaid line for six months.  Fine.
I have found another Moto G that says the "ESN is clean for use with post pay service." I take this to mean that it has already been used for the 6 month prepaid service and can now be transferred to a post pay account.  The seller said to contact Verizon.  I can't get ahold of an online chat person, so I'm putting it out here:
    1) How does a prepaid get transferred to a post paid after the initial six months?
    2) Will I be able to change the number to my phone line number?
    Thank you for any information.

        Hi CarmenBobarmen,
The Moto G is an awesome device! In order for a Prepaid device to be used on the Postpaid network the device has to be activated on Prepaid services for six months. Once on Prepaid services for six months you can then contact customer service and we will be able to activate the device on your Postpaid services line.
    Thanks,

  • I was sent the 8 GB instead of the 16 GB, I paid with PREPAID, and no one can admit a mistake, no department take to other dept on your behalf!

On June 26th  after 7:00 p.m. Central time I spoke to sales on the phone as the PREPAID website was having issues.  I was on an expired VERIZON contract and wanted my current telephone # which is not an option online.
I called customer service to order the iPhone 4 16GB for $99 as advertised, and was sent to Darby, in the Sales Dept.  Darby suggested that I not do it on a Thursday night after 7:00 as they would disconnect my current phone, and would not receive the shipment until Monday.  He said he would give me a courtesy call Monday (June 30) @ 11:00 to place my order.  He did not called as planned.
Therefore I called that night and was given Crystal (removed) (Sales) & informed her of my concerns & she placed the order for 16GB iPhone for $99 as advertised online.  I received the order confirmation immediately in an email.
On July 1st I received the shipping confirmation of an iPhone 8 GB.
I immediately called Verizon customer service and was given a few people, different departments and a woman named Cierra told me that we can hope that that is a typo because the only thing offered online is the 16 GB.
July 2nd the 8 GB was delivered to my place of employment.  And, . . .I drove directly to the nearest VERIZON store to have them help.
I was there for 3 hours.  Finally got the iPhone activated with my old ‘post paid’ account to ‘prepaid’ account which is a nightmare.  They are VERIZON and yet separate.  They did what they could @ the store for me.  I was told that I would have to order and pay again for the 16 GB, . . .then send back the 8 GB, not wanting to be w/o a phone.  Also that it would take 3 days probably to receive the credit back in my account.
No department @ VERIZON talks to each other, no department can seems to communicate.  We had to ask for someone’s supervisor in customer service because there was no solution, they could not do anything.  They said their supervisor was in a meeting. Eventually we spoke with a supervisor named Ray the only solution was to make another order, and stated they would not charge me shipping, . . .and I guess I was suppose to be grateful.
The store could not exchange this 8 GB for their 16 GB as the cost of the in-store 16 GB cost $50 more.
During all this I had stated this is too complicated, I’m leaving this phone here for them to ship back, . . .glad I did not though.
This evening I wasted more time & energy trying to find someone that can communicate to another person about my account, . . .to no avail, . . .finding no department that can take care of the shipping that got screwed up.
Now after some time as passed, cleaning house & such, . . .I have realized that if I do return the incorrect was that was sent, . . .I will most likely I would automatically be charged the restock fee of what, $35 as no one can communicate to another department on your behalf.
But they’ll sure take your money.  Not sure what to do @ this point, as they cannot be trusted.
We asked Ray to have his supervisor John to give me a call and none yet.  This evening someone in ‘Sales’ sent an email to Crystal to give me a call, . . .(holiday maybe, no call yet).
Any suggestions VERIZON?  Some depart, CORE, . . .they can't help with prepaid either, geez.

    Update:
The USPS tracking shows the phone was delivered to Centralized Returns Center in Fort Worth on July 10th.  I have spoken with Customer Service & am getting a $21 credit for not being able to use my phone.
Telesales, . . .say's they can only make a 'note' on my account 'Do Not Charge Re-stock Fee as the wrong phone was sent'.  Customer Service cannot see this 'note', . . .(shrug).
    My mistake:
As soon as I received the incorrect phone, . . .I should have written on the original receipt, . . .
"I was sent the WRONG PHONE, Please Do not charge re-stock fee" and please credit my account".
I have not been charged a re-stock fee yet, . . .not sure if that happens what I will do, . . .speak to Customer Service I presume.
I should NOT have gone to the store for help, . . .they are in sales.  But they did get the phone activated, . . .which I believe now I should not have done!
The RETURNS center is unreachable and 'Sales' can only sell, . . and following up on incorrect phones being sent is NOT THEIR issue?????
Too bad there is not a STORE THAT DEALS WITH PREPAID, . . . that can actually deal with 'Shipping' and 'Returns', . . .what a concept!
'Sales', nor 'Customer Service' can reach the 'Returns Center', . . .or figure out if it was the Sales Rep Crystal in California, that ordered wrong, or the Shipping Departments mistake.
I was just told by Terry (Sales Rep) and the manager, Patrick, . . .all I can do now is wait on my credit & it should be there by Monday July 14th.  #1, . . .How can they even know that w/o even speaking to the shipping dept or the returns center?  They can't, . . .they only suspect, right?
The main problem is that the original Sales Rep,Crystal in California . . .cannot be reached.  No one is responsible for sending out the wrong phone, . . . .telesales just want's to sell another phone.  At this point 'TRUST' is the issue.
I want to thank Customer Service for working with me.
Not sure what the future will hold with this issue, but only hope to receive my credit @ this point.  It is a way too complicated avenue of communicating.

  • Can I port my number if switching from a post-paid to a pre-paid and back to a post-paid?

This is a little convoluted, so I'll use bullet points.
    1) I am currently on a family plan that is paid for by my former employer. I need to leave that plan by the end of this month.
    2) I would like to port the number from this plan to a pre-paid plan on Verizon for 2 months.
    3) After 2 months, I would like to port the same number back to a post-paid plan.
Is this possible? I understand I'll have to downgrade to a 3G phone for that time.
The only reason I want to do it this way is I want the new iPhone in October and if I sign a 2-year contract tomorrow, I won't be able to buy a new phone, right?
Or is the new phone not tied to when you start your contract, but rather to the last time you purchased a new phone? If that's the case, can I port my number to a new contract, use my old phone and buy the new one in October at the subsidized rate?
    Thanks very much in advance!
    Tracy

Well I think you can get the best answers if you walk into a VZW store. But to my knowledge, you will be able to convert your existing number and start a prepaid plan. Then once you have the prepaid plan, I believe it must be on the Prepaid account six months before you can convert it back to a contract account.
And as for the new phone, as long as you start your new contract with your existing phone, you should be able to get the new iPhone in october at the the discounted rate, the same rate you would get if starting a new contract.

  • Transfer number from post-paid to pre-paid.

After many hours spent with many different verizon people, i finally managed to switch my postpaid plan with a broken phone to a prepaid plan with a functional phone without changing my phone number. however, in order to complete the transaction, the associate deleted my postpaid account and began the prepaid account as if i was a new customer. this means that i have lost all of my contacts which were backed up through backup assistant, as well as the photos i had uploaded to the verizon media thing, and any texts and/or voicemails sent to my phone in the 10 days it wasn't working.
is there any way to merge the new account with the old account? what about the contacts i had stored in backup assistant? please help.

ajamba, We apologize for the hassle with getting the prepaid phone activated. Were you trying to keep your old phone number? Was the post paid account still under a contract?

  • Pre-Paid plan coverage vs Post-Paid plan coverage.

Does the Verizon Pre-Paid plan voice/data coverage use the same areas as the Post-Paid plans voice/data coverage, or does the pre-paid plan exclude coverage normally provided through partner network sharing agreements?

Prepaid coverage is different than Post paid.  On the website look for coverage locator on the Why Verizon Page. You can select pre-paid coverage only.

Since BSNL is not a supported carrier, you need to input Correct APN settings for Cellular data and enable 3G

Check with BSNL website/Wireless Customer care/Engineering. You can use Google as well. Cheers

Once those ten attempts have been expended, the device can ONLY be unlocked by the factory, by sending the device to RIM for work, at your expense.

  • Upgrading from Pre Paid to Post Paid or Contract?

    Hello,
I have been a pre-paid customer for more than a year and just found out I can change or upgrade to a "Post Paid" or Regular account?  What is the process  or how do I go about doing this? Are there extra fees involved with processing the request or deposits required to do so? Last but not least, am I able to keep my same phone number?
Thank you in advance for any info!
    Deb

Yes, it is possible.  You'll need to contact Verizon's postpaid customer service, and the number can be found under the "Contact Us" link on the top right of this page.  I do not believe there are any fees, but you may need to pay a deposit.  Verizon will check your credit and make that determination.  If you are OK with whatever deposit they decide to request, you can set up the postpaid account with your current phone number.

  • Porting from Pre-Paid to Post-Paid

I have a Telstra Pre-Paid plan, and want to port to a Telstra Post-Paid plan. I am currently overseas, and so am unable to do it in person at a Telstra store. I have been told that I can get the credit assessment done by the 24-7 Chat team, but I would require a new blank SIM (which I would be unable to get, given I am travelling). Is there any way that I can port across without requiring a new SIM?? Thanks

That seems unusual... I know that with the reverse, going from post-to-pre paid doesn't need a new SIM card... I would suggest giving the disconnection team a call, they deal with the order for the reverse of it so might be able to help in that way as well... 132200 and say "Disconnection"

    Hi Garry15
It comes automatically unlocked - so from our end there isn't anything you need to do to use a new SIM card in the device :-)
