Migrating Presets from previous versions

There was chat about this an other thread, but I can't find it now.  Someone mentioned that their Topaz plugins all worked, and as I'm betting the beta will be the primary version of Photoshop for most of us ntil the final release, it does make sense to get it fully functional.
The Topaz plugins install from an .exe file with Windows, but a quick hunt round found that it puts shortcuts to a central installation at:
and
So it was just a matter of copying the shortcuts to the same folders in CS6 (without mixing up the 32bit and 64bit versions like I did first time I tried.)
I was also lookijng for my Type DNA plugin, but the migration process had worked fine, and it was there in Adobe Extension Manager CS6 (Start > All programs), but needed to be Enabled.  After that it appeared in Window > Extensions, and launched as per my custom workspace which had carried over from CS5.   A big thanks to the development team.  It's little touches like an easy migration of previous version settings that make all the difference.

This comment brought something to my mind...
At the moment I have Photoshop CS6 beta installed in a VMware virtual machine.  As a rule I *don't* install beta software on my production host environment, because stability is supremely important to me (I rely on this system to do a tremendous number of things, and it's rock solid).
Photoshop CS6 beta works surprisingly well in the VM, but not every GPU feature is available because the virtualized display driver environment simply doesn't provide as much capability as a real display driver on real hardware.  I do see enough GPU support to know that Photoshop CS6 is doing a fine job, and it seems quite stable.
What I can't really tell is how well it's going to work on my host system, with ATI Radeon HD 5670 video card.  I could be unpleasantly surprised when I install it and find that there's some driver glitch that keeps things from working even as well as I've seen in the VM.
But at the moment I'm torn...
Do I go ahead and install the beta on my host system, and chance breaking something, but have more information about any potential bugs so I can be prepared for the release?  Perhaps I could supply such information to Adobe and/or ATI and get them working on a fix?
Do I wait, and just deal with any issues when it's released, knowing I will still have Photoshop CS5 to drop back to for important work, and conceivably could continue using CS6 in a VM even then.
This is just a risk management issue for one who wants to have his cake and eat it too.
At the moment I'm still slightly tipped toward just waiting for the release and continuing as I am now.  It's a philosophy that has worked remarkably well.

  • (Re)Migrating Preferences From Previous Version

I am running SQL Developer ver. 1.0.0.14.67 on Windoze XP Pro 2002 SP2 with JDK1.5 installed. I wanted the patch2 release (ver 15.57) but Check For Updates reported no updates. So I downloaded sqldeveloper-1557-no-jre.zip and unzipped into a new directory as per instructions. Unfortunately, I hit cancel when asked if I wanted to migrate my preferences from a previous version the first time I started up sqldeveloper.exe in the new directory.
Now I want it to ask me again about my preferences from the previous version. What happens to the old registry setting relating to the old version in the other directory? Do they ever get removed when you put a new version in a new directory. I want a clean install. Is there a safe way to trigger this initial setup dialog?

To be asked (again) if you want to migrate settings, you need to delete the \sqldeveloper\jdev\system directory and then restart sqldeveloper. You will get the prompt again. Please note, that connections are not migrated. I typically export my connections file to a safe working directory.

  • Import presets from previous version

Having upgraded from CS to CS4 I want to import my preset crops and brushes into the new version. I can't find any advice elsewhere and would appreciate it if someone could please tell me how to do this.
    Roger

Thanks again. You prompted me to save my CS presets in Edit>Preset Manager>Save Set. This puts them into folders under C/Program Files/Adobe/Photohop CS/Presets/Brushes [/Tools] from where they can be copied and pasted into the corresponding CS4 folders. Then it is necessary to activate them by double-clicking the set in the Brushes folder [or from the Load Set command in the CS4 Preset Manager in the case of Tools] and, hey presto, they appear under the right tool buttons.
I don't know if I've done it the right way because I had to create Brushes and Tools subfolders in the CS4 Presets folder. My saved brush set does not show up under Load Set in the CS4 Preset Manager but the saved crop tools do, making the procedure different for each. To me that's all very weird but everything seems to be working OK.

  • Migrate Connections from previous version

When upgrading to the latest version - I failed to migrate the connections.
Now I can't find a way to get the old connection settings into 1.5.3 and it doesn't ask anymore.
I cannot find where the IDEConnections.xml sits either?
    Can you help?
    Thanks

If you still have your older version installed, and can still see your connections in the older version, you can export them. Just right click "Connections" in the connections navigator, and choose "Export Connections". The connections are saved as an XML file in the directory of your choice. Exit the old version and start 1.5.3. Right click "Connections" and choose "Import Connections" and import the connections from the file that you exported.
If you don't have your older version, and would like to look for the connections yourself, the location will depend on which version you upgraded from and what operating system you have. Let us know, and I'm sure someone will try to help.

What features from previous versions are not available in Adobe Photoshop Elements 12?
A handful of features from previous versions are not available in Photoshop Elements 12 due to new product support for 64-bit systems.
Below, we list the features and the easy alternatives available to you in version 12:
The Magic Extractor ToolAlternative: Use the Quick select tool together with the Refine Edge tool to quickly select and extract anything from your photos.
    Texture Fill
Alternative: Use the Edit > Fill Layer option and select the "Pattern" option for Contents. You would have to pre load the pattern file with the texture you want.
Here is a tutorial on how to create a pattern file: http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/creating-custom-pattern-in-photoshop/

  • Can I import Events and Projects from previous versions of iMovie

I just installed the latest version of iMovie - but I have a bunch of projects, events, etc. from previous version - going way back.  Is there a way to move those items into the new version.

Yes.  File - Update Projects and Events.  Your iMovie 9 folders will still be available.  (I would not delete any iMovie 9 stuff untill you are happy with iMovie 10 - its quite different.)

  • Delayed response of when moving objects in diagram and panel, happend in LV 6, only for vi's compiled from previous versions. any suggestions?

When I using the mouse to select portion of the diagram or the panel, or when I moving objects- I found that in all the vi's that I compiled from former versions of labview- there is a delay of close to a second to the actual selection or movement of the item. This happens in 2 machines out of 5 that I tested it, and it happened both in windows 2000 and in windows 98. any suggestions?

Sometimes a video driver issue. Update your video driver.
Or turn down the video driver hardware acceleration. Right-click an
empty area of the desktop, choose the Settings tab, choose the Advanced
    button.
The location of this differs in different versions of Windows.
Win2000: go to Troubleshooting, and turn down the slider for hardware
    acceleration.
    Win98: I think it's on another tab.

  • Bring back lost Creation types from previous versions of Elements?

I would like to see some of the Creation types from previous versions of Elements that appear to have been lost in the lastest verions reinstated - either within the product or as downloadable options. Specifically I use the 'Album Pages / Seasons' creations in PE4 a lot but looking through a download of PE7 they are no longer there.
If this can be addressed it would also help me enormously to be able to repeat text boxes on each page (same text, font & position) on each page in just the way I already can with headers and footers.
Any support for this type of thing?

  • I cannot recover back up's from previous versions?? Really??

Every time I try to recover back ups from previous versions of iPhoto, it crashes as it doesn't see the image as a jpg file. Any suggestions? These photo's are an invaluable part of my business!!

Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new library.  Now insert the disc in the optical drive and try copying photos from the disc library into the new library.  If you can then that means you current library is damaged.
If that's the case then make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
      Fix #1
delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
    Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Reconnect from previous versions of pse

I accidently deleted some files where  photos are stored. Can I somehow reconnect from previous versions of pse that are backed up on cd's. I am running pse 11.

You can copy the photos to your computer from your backups and PSE Organizer will find them automatically if you put them in the correct folder which your current configuration knows about it.
You just need to copy the photos and organizer can do the rest.
    Good luck.

  • Does iDVD have all the themes from previous versions?

If I were to get a new iMac with iLife '08 installed will I have all the themes from previous versions of iDVD? Can someone with a new iMac and an older machine with iLife '06 & 05 confirm?
If the are not all there can I move them over and hopefully iLife '08 iDVD will convert them?

My upgrade yesterday maintained all previous themes.
I recall reading this week that you could get old themes from Apple if needed. Don't know if that's a download or snail mail request.
I don't see anything about that here:

  • Pages 5.52 does not open my custom templates from previous versions?

Pages 5.52 does not open my custom templates from previous versions?
Pages freezes and I have to force quit
    Whats happening

Pages v5 (including v5.5.2) lacks about 100+ features found in Pages '09 v4.3. When Pages v5 encounters unsupported content in Pages '09 (or very early Pages v5) templates, it communicates this to you as an application freeze. As Pages '09 v4.3 runs on Yosemite, and you may still have it in /Applications/iWork '09, you may want to use it instead. Recreating templates is not the best use of your time.

  • How do I migrate Actions from Old Version to new?

I've been using Photoshop 6.0 for years and have many custom actions that I have created myself. I've now downloaded the trial for photoshop CS2. I want to use the actions I've created in version 6 in CS2. How do I migrate these old actions into CS2? What files do I copy to the CS2 folder from my version 6 folder?
I don't see any difference in the actions files (.atn files) listed in /presets/actions folders. File sizes are the same and I don't see any action group files with the names I saved them in. Where are my custom actions and how do I move these old ones into the new version? My actions were saved in a group called 'My Actions'. I see no .atn file with that name.
This is the only thing I need to figure out. Upgrading to CS2 is a no brainer -- it has many fixes that version 6 needed. But I don't want to recreate the old actions. There's got to be a way to do this. Please tell me what I need to do.
    Thanks.

First of all, you should have been using 6.0.1.
You need to save your Actions before you can move them around. Just putting them into a set is not enough. From the Actions palette flyout arrow, choose New Set (or click on the little folder icon at the bottom of the palette), name it and put your custom Actions in it. Then go to the flyout menu and choose Save Actions. Save the Set to any location you wish (Presets Folder is a good place.
That will make an .atn file that you can move or copy anywhere you like. You can load it in the new version from its location (flyout arrow> Load Actions) or put (copy) it in the Photoshop Actions folder in Presets which will let you load it by choosing from the menu.
