Migrating RDB and Rally from VMS to NT

I may be barking up the wrong tree here, but I'm fairly desperate
and could use some help.
We run RDB and Rally on VMS and are now looking to migrate to
Windows NT. We have a significant investment of time in our Rally
apps and they are critical to our day to day business. We are
trying to formulate a migration strategy. We are evaluating
several databases, but thought Oracle to Oracle would be the
simplest. But it is quickly becoming apparent that RDB and Rally
(former DEC products) are like the illegitimate children in the
Oracle family.
I have spoken to several Oracle salesmen and a couple of
technical consultants and have come up empty handed.
Does anyone on this forum have any knowledge of a service called
"Oracle Rally Convert Service Package"? Does anyone have any
experience migrating Rally applications to NT? Does anyone have
any suggestions as to where else to turn for information?
Thank You,
Joe Conlon

How do I migrate sites and settings from CS6 to CC?
Now goddam way I am going to rebuild 13 websites just to use CC

Well. With Dreamweaver CC, you could use the Sync settings feature to transfer workspaces from one CC machine to the other.
But with CS6 workspaces being transferred to CC there is a not so intuitive way to do it.
Backup/Rename the CC workspace folder [resent at C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CC\configuration\workspace to anything you like.
Copy the workspace folder from C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\configuration\workspace to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CC\configuration\workspace
Now you should have your CS6 workspaces in CC.

• Manually migrating iPhoto and iTunes from Snow Leopard to Lion..

Hi all,
I received a shiny new iMac yesterday and in my haste to get it up and running, I began to run the migration assistant on wi-fi.  Unfortunately, my 2006 macbook model is so old that my firewire cables don't actually fit the firewire port on the back of the iMac!!
11 hours later, there was still 40 hours left to go.  At this point I manually quit the migration assistant. Partly because I have to work and to work I need to use a computer and partly because I realised that I don't want all the old crud from my previous system.. all I want is my iTunes (songs, apps, playlists etc) and my iPhoto to migrate.
The original admin account that the migration assistant was going to replace was still there.  Everything seems to be working fine... I did a quick repair of disk permissions and all seems fine.   So, I think I flirted with danger by quiting the migration assistant, but danger doesn't seem to have flirted back.
I've searched high and low on the web and I can't find any advice on migrating just your iPhoto and iTunes from Snow Leopard to Lion.  I did read a post somewhere (relating to a migration to Leopard) where someone wrote that, for iPhoto, you simply had to replace your iPhoto Library in your pictures folder on the destination machine and then simply start iPhoto.  iPhoto would upgrade the databases etc and all would be fine in the world.  I cannot find a post online that suggests that this is also the case for Lion.
Can anyone here give me some hints on how to manually migrate the iPhoto and iTunes libraries over (and still preserve playlists in iTunes, albums/events in iPhoto etc)?
I figure that I cannot be the only person in the world who wants a "fresh start" on their machine, with the exception of iPhoto and iTunes.

Resident apple gurus at work have advised me to use the migration assistant and plug an ethernet cable between machines.
I'll give this a go and then go through the process of removing and cleaning up whatever old data I can.. but if someone posts a response to this question for me, I'll happily roll back in time-machine and go again in a cleaner way. :-)

Use the migration wizard and set it to merge, the deltas should be added ok and anything that exists in both systems should get a number added at the end.

• Hot to migrate mail and settings from Mail 2.1.3 to Mail 3.5??

I'm migrating everything from a mac G4 running 10.4.11 to a Mac Pro running 10.5.6 - address book, calendar etc was find but I am having problems with Mail.
I want to import the emails, email accounts and other settings if possible such as rules and signatures from Mail 2.1.3 on the G4 into Mail 3.5 on the Mac Pro. I've looked through various postings/articles but are not 100% sure on how it is done? I've had a few botched goes but it inevitably ends up with missing folders, missing email etc
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Phil

Thanks for the suggestion Debbi. After my previous message I was looking at the post 'Mail does not quit or show old messages after 10.4-10.5 migration' and tried the solution suggested there as copied below. Glad to say that it worked.
1. Navigate to your Library folder inside your home folder.
2. Locate the Mail folder and drag it to your desktop.
3. Launch the Mail application.
4. Mail will now ask you if you want import your messages. DO NOT HIT CONTINUE YET.
5. Navigate back to your Library folder inside your home folder. Notice there is a NEW mail folder that was created. You cannot delete this folder yet because it is in use by mail so we will just rename this folder Mail2.
6. Drag your OLD mail folder located on your desktop to your Library folder located in your home folder.
7. Go back to the Mail application and click continue. Your messages and settings should import fine now.
8. Verify that your messages and settings imported correctly and quit Mail. Navigate back to your home Library folder located in your home folder and delete the Mail2 folder.
9. Launch the Mail application again and make sure everything functions correctly.

• How do I migrate bookmarks and passwords from Ubuntu to OS X.

My Ubuntu computer still boots but its hard disk may be dying. I want to migrate my profile settings from Ubuntu to OS X on my Mac. I copied my Ubuntu profile folder onto a thumb drive. Everything seemed to copy fine except for one symbolic link. I tried to copy the contents over the contents of the Apple Mac's profile folder, but it seems to have had no effect.

When you run Firefox on your Mac, a Firefox profile folder is created with default data and settings. You have to remove the contents of the new Firefox profile folder on your Mac (e.g., the bookmarkbackups folder, places.sqlite , cookies.sqlite, etc.) and then copy over the contents of your old Firefox profile folder to the Mac profile folder. You should do this selectively, just copying important files (like places.sqlite for bookmarks and browsing history). Recovering important data from an old profile lists important files and explains how to transfer the data to the new profile on your Mac. Backing up your information explains where the old profile data is stored and how to save a copy.

• Error "The Connection Failed" in Time Machine, Migration Assistant and Restore From DVD

I am receiving this error when trying to connect to my Time Machine Backup in my Time capsule. I input the proper password to access my Time Capsule and It returns me to the screen with the caption "The connection failed" under the Time Capsule name in the "Select your Disk" screen. What would cause this error. I am connecting via WIFI (AirPort) and have full signal. I am using Mac OSX 10.6.8
I recently had my 1TB hard drive replaced and I am attempting to restore using Time Machine, migration assistant or from the startup dvd (tried multiple ways, no success). The initial setup of mac OSX 10.6 would not let me connect or other attempts after erasing hard drive and reinstalling OSX from disk.
Worked on it all weekend and don't have enough beer to drown the frustration, any help is appreciated.

You are correct TM is not at all easy to do a full restore.
To answer your question: Yes TM disk does show up in finder.
After my initial startup setup I was able to start TM and access all my previous backups. I migrated some files and was able grab the data from finder. Not satisfied with that I tried to do a restore to that previous date, to no success. I then erased the HD and reinstalled OSx and tried again from the setup screen. That didn't work, sulked over some beers. I then tired with Migration assistant...same result (more beer).
In starting TM after trying MA, only one backup was showing in the Star screen (today). None of my previous backups were showing. Since exiting TM it has been "Making Backup Disk Available" ( xGB of 6.29GB). Considering the size, I can only assume that these are my previous backups.
I have reviewed Pondini's posts, FAQs, and tutorials. I am a little scared to try and locate the drives through Terminal as in Pondini's TS #6 guide. If I can get my previous backups to show up, I will be happy with dragging files from Finder to restore my data and slowly work at restoring my settings/applications.

• Migrate tables and data from ODBC datasource to Oracle 11.2

Hiya
I have a database file in Dynamics NAV 5.0 native format - about 200-300 tables totalling maybe 10 GB worth of data.
My task is to migrate those tables with their data into a schema in our Oracle 11.2 database.
No tools support the NAV format directly :-) But I have a windows ODBC driver for that format that works.
The Oracle database runs on Linux and I have no ODBC transparent gateway and no linux ODBC driver that would let me access the NAV datafile directly from within Oracle.
I tried migration wizard in SQL Developer, but it seems it cannot use a "generic ODBC" datasource (even with JDBC-ODBC bridge), it must be a supported database format?
Then I have tried trial of product Altova MapForce, but it can't seem to read the schema (table/columns) from the ODBC datasource for some reason.
I know reading the schema from the ODBC datasource is possible - I have used third party product "Database Browser" that reads the ODBC with no problems.
And a colleague has read the schema of the ODBC in C# also.
I am primarily a SQL developer. My colleague said he could write in C# a program that looped over the tables in the ODBC, read the columns, executed "create table" in Oracle, read data from the ODBC, inserted data in Oracle.
But he is going on vacation right now :-( And I keep thinking that someone else must have written such a migration program ;-)
I just can't seem to find it by googling? Altova Mapforce was my best bet, but it just seems to have problems with this specific ODBC datasource.
Any ideas for a migration tool that can accept a generic ODBC datasource and not specifically SQL Server, MySQL, DB2, etc.?
Thanks for any hints that might help ;-)
Regards
Kim Berg Hansen

Hi Kim,
The earlier 9i and 10g generic connectivity option - HSODBC - could only run as part of the RDBMS but the 11g DG4ODBC can be installed and run standalone without an RDBMS.  You then connect using database links from Linux using an entry in the RDBMS tnsnames.ora as you have said.
See these notes depending if Windows is 32-bit or 64-bit -
How to Configure DG4ODBC (Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC) on Windows 32bit to Connect to Non-Oracle Databases Post Install (Doc ID 466225.1)
How to Configure DG4ODBC (Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC) on 64bit Windows Operating Systems to Connect to Non-Oracle Databases Post Install (Doc ID 1266572.1)
The latest 11.2 version is available from My Oracle Support as -
Patch 13390677: 11.2.0.4.0 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER
and for the gateways you only need to download -
p13390677_112040_WINNT_4of6.zip
for 32-bit but
p13390677_112040_MSWIN-x86-64_5of7.zip
for 64-bit.
The downloads have everything necessary for a gateway standalone install.

• Steps in migrating Web and mailman from one server to another

I am minimally skilled so am taking this slowly
I currently have a server set to manage several websites all on the same IP forwarded from a DSL modem. Also Mailman provides list distribution for several of the websites. That box also serves as a primary DNS within my subnet behind the modem. My question is what services to I transfer first to make sure I have it right. Shooting from the hip, I would say I do it in this order:
~ Set up the multiple web sites on the new server.
~ Set up mail services on the new server
~ Set up the mailman services on the new server.
~ Change the port forwarding on the modem from the old box to the new one so the outside world now gets sent to the new server
~ Change DNS services for the intranet
Does this sequence make sense or am I missing something?

Actually, I migrated using a process in this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6390958#6390958
and it worked very well. Had to do a lot of clean-up to get Apache to work correctly but now it does.

• Migrating Models and Metaoutlines from EIS to Studio

Hi John,
In the migration link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/est_help/eis_migration.htm
the point 7 says: Click in the Data Source Connection column and, from the drop-down list, select the target relational
database.
Note: The target relational database should match the Integration Services target data source.
Any idea wat it means?
I did not understand this.
-Regards,
Avishek.

It just means that in the dropdown you need to pick the name that maps to the schema where your meta/data tables are stored for the EIS model/metaoutline you are migrating.
Cheers

• Migrating Accounts and Notes From Entourage To Mail

Now have Leopard and have started to migrate all my mail files to Mail 3.0. That seems pretty easy just use import.
Is there a way to automatically import account info or does this have to be done manually?
Is there a way to import my Entourage note files into the new Mail notes.
Tks

After you sync with Address Book, and you uncheck the Sync in Entourage, they will not be deleted from Address Book.
For email, open Apple Mail, File Menu, Import Mailboxes..., then choose Entourage.
Or you can drag each folder from Entourage onto your drive, which makes a ".mbox" file which is compatible with many different mail programs. You can import those into Apple Mail (or into Thunderbird, or into Outlook Express, etc.).
You can also use a Gmail account, using IMAP (not POP), and drag'n'drop the emails from Entourage into that, then connect to it from Apple Mail and have them back.
Killing off Entourage is harder. Assuming you don't want to uninstall Office, you'll at least need to go to System Prefs, Accounts, and delete the Login Item for the Microsoft Database. I'm not sure what other steps may be necessary.
