Migrating Tiger Server from G5 to MacPro

I'm about to replace a PowerMac G5 server with a MacPro. The G5 is running 10.4.8 or so, and was installed from a Universal 10.4.7 DVD. The MacPro only has Client installed.
What's the easiest way to do the install?
I know I can export/import the user file, which is the most critical item in the process. But it would be fun to do something automatically. Last I checked there was no Migration Assistant like in Tiger Client. Ah well.
My current theory is to move the boot drive from the G5 to the MacPro. I know it won't boot (the silly GUID boot thing), but I might try Carbon Copy Cloner to move the drive data to the new boot drive. Will it boot? I dunno!
I'm surprised the migration guide doesn't say anything about this. I've done plenty of 10.3-10.4 upgrades and know that cold. So as I said, I know I can do it the old-fashioned way.

Mission accomplished. Here are the steps I took. There was one glitch, but workaround was easy.
I connected a spare external firewire drive to the G5. Partitioned it as GUID. Used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone to the G5's boot drive to the firewire drive.
Connected the firewire drive to the MacPro. Booted from it perfectly. So that answered one question I had - Server 10.4.7+ not only ships as Universal, but installs as Universal. Nifty.
I then cloned the Firewire drive to the MacPro's boot drive. Restarted, booted fine. Disconnected the firewire drive, which wasn't needed any more.
I wanted to check the various settings. Server Admin looked perfect. Workgroup Manager gave me an immediate problem - it refused to even open the LDAP connection, so it wouldn't even list the users (260 or so). Not good.
I went to the old server, opened Server Admin, and exported an archive of the Open Directory info (the server is an OD Master). I moved the archive to the new server on a USB flash drive.
On the new server, I changed the config from an OD master to a standalone, then back again (to clear the OD configuration). I then imported from the archive file.
I then went back to Workgroup Manager, and all users came up fine.
I then connected the data drives (four LaCie Biggest FW800 2TB drives). Everything works perfectly, including the network home directories. No other reconfiguration was necessary.

  • How to migrate application server from Tomcat to WebSphere?

    Hi,
I installed BO XI 3.1 32 bit in environment:
    - AIX 5.3 64 bit
    - Deployed Tomcat 5.5 from installing BO
    - Oracle client 10G
I need to migrate application server from Tomcat to WebSphere 6.1 and WebSphere 6.1 Server 32 bit in Windows platform.
Could you someone give detail steps
Many thanks in advance and best regards,

I tried manually to deploy web applications, but not successful. This is my deployment step following:
    AIX 5.3: BOE XI 3.1 :
Copy all <INSTALLDIR>/bobje/enterprise120/java/applications/  to Windows Websphere D:\BO_WAS
    WebSphere 6.1 location & IP (windows) :
    C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer1\
    IP: 192.168.69.10
Log in to WebSphere Applicaton Server Administrative http://192.168.69.10:9060/admin
    1. Under the Applications heading of the console navigation menu, click
Enterprise Applications on the left navigational pane.
    2. Click the Install button and navigate to the location of the WAR file to
deploy. If deploying from a remote file system, select the Remote File
    System option.
    3. Enter a context root for the WAR file (e.g. /CmcApp for CmcApp.war)
(this format (/CmcApp) for Unix OS, have different in Windows ? Could you give me fully path?)
    and
press the Next button, followed by Continue.
    4. In "Step 1", give a unique name for your web application and proceed to
    "Step 2".
    5. Highlight the server you created (or highlight server1 if you didn't create
your own) from the Clusters and Servers and enable the Select
    checkbox. Proceed to "Step 3".
    6. Select the virtual host you created (or default_host if you didn't create
your own) from the Virtual Host drop-down list. Proceed to "Step 4".
    7. Review the summary page, and press Finish when done.
    8. Click Save to Master Configuration.
    9. Click the Save link, then the Save button.
Finally the output is not available.

Background : We are having ECC 6.0 running on HP Unix
What we need to do : want to migrate the entire production application to a new server under o/s SuseLinux 11.5 certified by SAP AG
What we are doing : there is a utility called Software Developer Tool DRYRUN using this utility want to export application to storage and from store we shall restore the application into the new server under o/s SuseLinux 11.5
What error I am getting :
Sapinst could not find the required software logistics java libraries DIAGNOSTS. The global directory may not be available at u2018/usr/sap/fpp/flobalu2019 or its contain may not be up-to-date in addition the version of the SAP NetwWeaver java system might be lower than AP6. SOLUTION, Mound the global directory and/or apply the latest support package.
Using above method we could migrate development server to SuseLinux 11.5 successfully.
If I have posted this question on wrong forum pl. guide me
    Thanks
    Nitin

    Hi Nitin,
Just to check with you, OS/DB migrations has to be performed following certain rules. HPUX is big endiand and Linux is little endian so an Heterogeneous system copy should be performed and theres only a few supported ways to perform the migration. Have you check that the usage of DRYRUN is ok and that your system will be supported after the migration?...

  • Migrating KMS server from one computer to another

    Hi,
I would like to know how to migrate the KMS from one server to another. Thanks in advance

    Steps to migrating the KMS:
    1. Uninstall the KMS host key first by running the following command:
    slmgr -upk
    2. Then, install the default kms key by running the following command:
slmgr /ipk [KMS Client Setup Key]
The default KMS client setup keys can be found here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc303280.aspx
    3. Delete the record from the DNS:
    Open DNS console:
Expand _tcp node under the domain.com. There will be a record _VLMCS. Delete this record.
    4. The KMS server is uninstalled.
    5. To install KMS on a new server, enter:
    cscript C:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ipk <KmsKey>
then to activate the KMS host, enter:
    cscript C:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ato
    6. After activation is complete, restart the Software Licensing Service.
    7. Verify that the record is created for the new server in the DNS.
To verify that the KMS host is configured correctly, you can check the KMS count to see if it is increasing. Run slmgr.vbs /dli on the KMS host to obtain the current KMS count. You can also check the Key Management Service log in the Applications and Services Logs folder for 12290 events, which records activation requests from KMS clients. Each event displays the name of the computer and the time-stamp of an individual activation request.

  • Migrating DHCP Server From OpenSuse to Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard

    Hello,

Is there any procedures for that ,Or should i configure my Windows server 2008 DHCP service again.
    Thank you

    Hi,
I have done somthing similar in the past. Basically i got exported all the scopes and settings from the linux dhcpd service, then created the scopes in Windows, stop linux dhcp service and start windows one. Use conflict detection setting to leverage any
    IPs lease from linux server.
    Hope it helps.

  • Migrate WSUS server from 2003x86 to 2008x64, new hardware, use same name and IP address?

Searching through the WSUS forums and reading the TechNET migration documentation, I have bits and pieces of information to make this a smooth transition...I think. I have a plan in mind but
would like the communities input on what I am thinking before moving forward and having it blowup in my face :). <o:p></o:p>
    I have the following currently:<o:p></o:p>
A single WSUS 3.0 SP2 server, running on Server Win2003x86, using the default WID (susdb.mdf) on the same server. I have SQL 2005 Express installed on this server as well for other services
but this has no bearing on the WID correct?<o:p></o:p>
What I would like to do:<o:p></o:p>
I have a new server (a much better one) that I would like to move WSUS on to, that will be running Server Win2008x64 (I have to setup first). <o:p></o:p>
Steps that I would like to follow:<o:p></o:p>
    1. I will go through and setup this new server with all M$ updates etc... under a new name (ex. wsusnew) and DHCP acquired IP address and then power it down. <o:p></o:p>
    2. Get on my current WSUS server and backup all current WSUS settings, groups, DB etc... to a network location for temporary storage. Then power it down.<o:p></o:p>
    3. Delete the current WSUS server computer object in AD, DNS entry I will leave because my intension is to give the same IP address to the new WSUS server.<o:p></o:p>
    4. Start the new server, static assign the IP address from the old WSUS server to this new server and then change the name of (wsusnew) to the old servers name, which should be ok sense I deleted
the AD object in step 3.<o:p></o:p>
    5. After the obvious restart, the new server will have the same name and IP address as the old server. <o:p></o:p>
    6. Now that the new server is up (with same settings name/IP as old server), I will then go through and install the WSUS role on the server and restore my WSUS information.<o:p></o:p>
    Questions:<o:p></o:p>
    1. Step 2 above, is it possible to do this, without making replica servers? I kept reading about this as I was researching doing this, I would rather just copy the DB and folders and simply
put them in-place on the new server.<o:p></o:p>
    2. Step 6 above, restoring of the data, what is the proper way to do this in the scenarioI described? <o:p></o:p>
Thank you to anyone who can provide me some information.
    Jeff

Thank you for the reply, I will follow and let you know. Proabably be next week sometime before I'm able to try though. So look for a reponse then. Thank you again.
    Jeff
    OR...
You can use the much more simple, much more reliable, and much more proven method of:
Install new server as a replica of the old.
    Replicate.
Configure new server as upstream server.
    Point clients to new server.
Turn off old server after all clients have redirected to the new server.
For everybody that has tried the backup/restore the database procedure described above, they have encounted complications of one form or another.
WSUS has a built-in and fully supported comprehensive replication capbility. use it! :-)

  • Question on Migrating SAP server from one system to another

    Hello SAP Gurus
I need your expert advice with the following issue.
We have ECC6.0 and Enterprise Portal installed on a windows 2003 server with 4 gig memory for demo work (Pre-sales).
Lately we are seeing lots of performance issues and so would like migrate to a faster server.  Keeping the budget in mind
we would like to go for Windows-7 64 bit so that we can have atleast 8 gig memory and about 250 gig disc space.
How easy is to migrate from the old server to the new server without losing any data that we have created (lots of custom BAPIs and Tables etc.,)
Is it as simple as install the new server and then create the transport request package of BAPIs and TABLES on the old system and import it into the new server OR is there any thing else that I need to be looking for.  Also, is Windows-7 64 Bit a supported platform for SAP.
I am sure lots of you have already done this and might have acquired good knowledge. I would appreciate if you can please share that with me.
    Thanks
    Ram
Edited by: Prasad Ram on Mar 17, 2010 2:39 PM

    Hi Prasad,
I am not sure whether Windows-7 64 bit is a supported platform or not. Please check that in PAM (Product Availability Matrix).
Apart from that the thing you are trying to achieve is not much of a complex activity. By means of System Copy you can achieve what you are trying to do. System Copy is the building of a new system on the new platform using an existing offline database and moreover keeping the SID same. This will retain all of your data (Custom BAPIs and tables and all those) and save you from tedious activity of creating innumerable transport requests and importing them.
Please visit SAP Service market place for System Copy Guide. By the way can you let us know is the current platform is also 64 bit?
Let us know if you have any more concerns.

  • Methods to Migrate File Server from MacOS to SMB

    Hey everyone,
First time submitting a question, so please excuse (and advise) if I've done this incorrectly.
I currently have an Apple File Server (~600Gb) which I'm in the process of migrating over to a 2k8R2 server.  I wanted to find out if anyone else has done this process, and if they have any tips on best methods to do this.  I'm trying to find out
if there is a program which can truncate the names to make them NTFS compatible as well as removing the permissions on the files so they can be transferred successfully. At this point I'm manually moving files folder by folder and troubleshooting as problems
arise but there has to be an easier way to do this.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks everyone!
    Best,
    Dan

i never tried it, but I have tried copying files back and forth from a Windows to Linux and Linux to Windows.
I believe this program should also work on Mac OS.
    Check out WinSCP.
or try to install NFS service on your Windows server box and check if you can copy over from Mac to Windows.

  • Migration Directory server from Red Hat ES to Windows2003

    Hello!
I have to migrate from Directory Server 6.0 on Linux Red Hat ES to Directory Server 6.2 on Microsoft Windows 2003.
    Can I use dsmig utility?
    Thanks!

I don't think that dsmig will work as it was designed for migrating from 5.2 to 6.x
But I think you can do it mostly with DSCC.
Install the DSEE 6.2 binaries, configure the Console and register the 6.0 instance in it.
Then create the new DS 6.2 instance with cloning the configuration. Data will need to be exported from the 6.0 and reimported in the 6.2.

  • Migrate print server from Windows 2000 to Windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
Want to transfer NTFS permission of printers from Windows 2000 to Windows 2008 R2.
Any method can do it ??
    Thanks

From your description, I understand that you want to copy ntfs permission of printer  folder
    from one server to another.
you can use subinacl to do the same..
To backup the permissions of the folder, subfolders and files on folder called Data on the G: drive:
    subinacl /noverbose /output=c:\ntfs_perms.txt /subdirectories G:\data\
If you wanted to just backup the NTFS permissions for the entire drive, the command would look like this:
    subinacl /noverbose /output=c:\ntfs_G_drive_perms.txt /subdirectories G:\*.*
Most of you will probably not be concerned with backing up down to the file level, and are satisfied with just backing up the permissions at the directory level.  Backing up the permissions for just the directories can be
    achieved with the following syntax:
    subinacl /noverbose /output=c:\G_driveNTFSperms.txt /subdirectories=directoriesonly G:\*.*
To restore the permissions on the drive using the file that you backed them up to:
    Subinacl /playfile c:\G_driveNTFSperms.txt

  • How to migrate Aperture library from PowerMac to MacPro

I copied my Aperture library from my old PowerMac G5 (10.5.8) to my new MacPro (10.6.2) but Aperture on the MacPro could not display any of the images included in the the library. It properly displayes the previews but instead of an image in the main window it always shows the info unsupported image format. Only the images that are references to files outside the library can be displayed.
So what is the proper way to move an Aperture library from a PPC Mac to an Intel Mac?
    Thanks in advance, Martin

If it's a managed library you can just copy it: It's that easy.
If it's a referenced library it's a lot trickier, as you can move the library and not the images.
Which do you have? It's probably easiest in the case of a referenced library to consolidate it, move it, and then move it back to referenced, if your library is of a moderate size.
But there are details on how to do this in the Aperture documentation; I suggest you have a read for the best practices on this.

  • Migrating Dimension Server from local installation to High Availability

    Hi Team,
When Hyperion was installed on the client site (11.1.2.3), there was no requirement for EPMA to become highly available.
Now that has become a requirement to make it highly available in the event that one of the virtual machine is unreachable.
In the event that a server becomes unavailable, it is acceptable for a manual failover procedure to be done.
What steps can be taken to prepare for such an event?
    Possible outcome:
Configure another dimension server on the second Virtual machine and leave it manually switched off.
Modify the IIS path to point to a clustered location accessible by both machines.
In the event of a failover, manually bring up the dimension server on the other machine.
This is yet to be implemented successfully.

    Remote Desktop/Preferences/Task Server
Add the FQDN or I.P address of your server in this pane on your book(basically your pointing your book to your installed software on the other machine). Setup your server with the installs you want it to make, and administer it via your book (or any machines with another unlimited ARD) IF you want report generation, you would schedule the clients to send the info to the server. A task server can only do 2 things, install packages or change client settings, thats it.
