Migrating to CF8 & new server

Hello,
I'm upgrading from a CF7 Standard license to CF8 Standard AND
moving to a new 2003 server. Do I need to put CF7 on the new server
and then upgrade or is there a way I can just put a clean copy of
CF8 on the new server?
Thanks,
CLM

Yes, you will just need the CF7 license key. During or after
you
install CF8 you will enter the CF8 license key. It should
then say
something to the effect "This is an upgrade license. Please
enter
original license key". Then enter your CF7 license key and
you are good
to go.
At least that is how it worked for us.

Can you upgrade from 1.3.0.20 small ovf to 2.1 without migrating to a new server? It sounds like you can just adjust the server settings now. I am currently running 1.3.0.20 and I have enough to do with also needing to upgrade my wlc to 7.4.121.0 and getting the MSE up to 7.4.121.0 without having to stand up a new server if I don't have to. Please share any information you have in regards to your experience with coming from a version 1.2-1.3 small ovf and going to 2.1.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

You are better off standing up a new server.  It's cleaner and safer..... you can always try to upgrade if you wish, but if things don't work out well, then you just wasted a lot of time.  Snapshot the VM and export the floor plans, just in case.  The ova is built around the DB size, so I don't know how well the DB will perform if you try to expand memory or drive space after an upgrade.

  • How to migrate to a new server

    Hi,
I need to migrate to a new server, there is a guide where to find the correct procedure to perform this procedure? Thx

You have to install the database server first on the new machine.
Now take the backup of the database from old connect server
Restore it into the new database server.
Now install connect on the new server
Once the setup is finished and the connect is up and running.
Replace the content folder on this new server with the content folder from old connect server.
This should take care of this.
This is the answer I got from Adobe. I did and successfully migrate my server but once the setup was finished on my new server I replace the content folder before restart the services... Everything went well.

  • Help migrating to a new server and keeping Aliases intact

Our old G4 server running Tiger Server is experiencing some "odd" hick-ups, so we decided to get a brand new server running 10.5 Server.
When we copy an entire share all internal aliases "just work" (Yay Apple).
Where it gets tricky is we sometimes have links between shares. For instance all sales related materials are kept on a secure volume, where project files are on a public volume. We sometimes have links on the public volume to the secure volume (for instance possibly linking to a client's original feature list from their RFP, which could rightfully be filed in either place).
As we have started migrating over data one thing we realized was that because we are creating new shares these "cross volume" aliases are getting lost.
Ideally I'd love to have a way to hunt down all "orphan" aliases and basically say "hey if you pointed to a certain path on the old secure volume, now go to that path on the new secure volume. Has anyone done this?
At the very least, I'd love a way to find any "orphan" aliases, so I can manually update them....
    Thanks,

In a scenario such as you describe one wouldn't bother with manually organizing data. You hit the red button on your data management/ backup software and let it work out the details. Generally one would also use RAID 5 for critical file servers since even while it's running specific single files may need to be restored on the fly if a write operation fails. This also eleiminates the need to run a "full backup" server since it will be extremely unlikely that the server will suffer a catastrophic failure and you lose all data. If that's not an option, a RAID 01 seems more appropriate for your situation than a RAID 10 since you deal with large files and would ned to maintain their integrity at least within one of the stripe sets or else your backup plan falls apart.

  • Migrate db to new server

there is requirment to migrate 9206 db to new server, db size is 85gb, dont have any rman backup, it uses user-managed backup which goes to tape.
i am planning to take its one rman backup on disk (fs) , move this to new server , create new instance on the new server and restore this there.
These are the steps i have in mind make me right if i am not.
    1-take rman backup like this
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/db01/df_%t_%s_%p';
    backup database;
2-move these backup pieces on new server on /db01 fs
3- create & start new instance , and set up there rman configuration like above and run restore db.

if your business allows downtime, then go on with cold backup.
Like copy all your database files (redo, control, datafiles, tempfile) to new host. if the directory structure is the same then it will be very easy, otherwise, you may have to edit initialization params, at mount stage you may have to run alter database rename file 'XXXX' to 'YYYY'.

  • Migrate licenses to new server no agreement #

I inherited a win2008r2 RDS licensing server that has win2003 cals & win2008 cals installed.
It used to be a citrix cal server as well, but the citrix util has been removed.
We replaced the citrix servers w/rds servers running win2008r2, however the new servers cannot connect to the licensing server…..the licensing server seems to be the problem so I am trying to replace it and migrate only the win2008 cals to the new licensing
    server.
The problem is that no one who used to manage the licensing server has any clue how the win2008 cals were added to the original licensing server and thus they have no paperwork, agreement #, or anything.
How can I migrate just the win2008 cals to the new licensing server, given that I have no agreement #?
    Thanks

    Hi meetoo2,
How is the issue going now. Please let us know if there is anything that we could help.

    Hi all
I need to install ADS on a w2003 x64bit (SQL 2005) the same way as it already runs on w2003 32bit platform.
    How do I start best?
As there is no doku for the existing environment, how do I find out the usage scenario for the existing installation, what else is important to know about existing installation?

    Hello,
the best is to simply follow the configuration guide. The ADS should work on your new hardware.

  • Migrating Reporting Services to new Server - Subscriptions are not transfering

    Hello,
I have an instance of SQL Server 2008R2 running on Windows Server 2008.  It is setup to be a reporting server.  There are many subscriptions that are scheduled and run on this server.  We are wanting to move to Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server
2012.  So, we have built out a new VM and I have exported from the current server the ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB and have imported them to the new server.  I have resolved the one Orphaned user that happened and went to look for the subscriptions
so that I could disable them so they wouldn't run.  I could not find any.
    select * from msdb.dbo.sysjobs where enabled = 1 and category_id = 100.
    no rows...
I had read from other posts to let it sit for a few days and they will appear.  I have waited 2 weeks.
So, what am I missing?  I would prefer to do a clean install and migrate the data over rather than upgrading the OS and SQL.
    Thanks

    Hi Sql Dude,
Per my undersranding that you can't find any informamation related to the subscription in the sydjobs table after migration, right?
You issue can be caused by many factors. Please check details information below:
Please check if you can see all the subscription in the report manager and can create new subscriptions. The ReportServer database used by SSRS to store the subscriptions maintains a record of the subscription owner (as well as audit fields) which track
the user accounts that have created/modified the subscriptions.
If you can't see subscription on the report manager and can create new subscriptions, the issue can be caused by "My subscriptions" had been created on the original non-domain server(Local User account).  Therefore, once the instance was migrated
to a new server on the domain, said Local User was no longer available.  Every user with access to the ReportServer database has an entry created in the Users table and a unique GUID generated.
To work around the issue, you can do a SQL Update query to changed the OwnerID and ModifiedByID fields on the Subscriptions table to relate to the GUID of the equivalent user on the domain.Tip:
Change the Owner of SQL Reporting Services Subscription
If you can see all the subsription on the report manager but can't find any job, please try to edit and update the subscription to see if it will recreate the job again and please also try to provide more details information in the log file to see if you
got some error message, the path like:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS11.SQLEXPRESS\Reporting Services\LogFiles
If above didn't help, please reference to the similar thread below:
Can't access SSRS 2008 R2 subscriptions after migration
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • Migrating to new server: advice! :)

    Hi!
My current GroupWise 2012 SP2 server is a SuSE 10 SP4 and I need to migrate to a new server!
I currently have 5% disk space left and have ordered additional drives, but while I'm going through the hassle and word is Windemere is not going to be supported on SuSE 10, I've decided to set-up and configure a new server.
This is my plan (this is my first migration) so any suggestions, advice, LOOKOUT FORs, would be welcome with open arms!
The current GroupWise server is a virtual machine on XenServer 6.1 with a NAS attached.
After I install the addition drives, here is my plan of attack:
    1. Start up a new SuSE 11 SP2 server.
Notes: The old GroupWise server had a 20 GB disk allocated: 502 MB for /boot and 17.4 GB for / and 2.0 swap
GroupWise files are mounted at /var/opt/novell/groupwise with a 750 GB allocation (it's 83 Linux native).
I think I will double that (40 GB allocation) for room to grow.
Question: What would you recommend LVM or NSS for the partition that will hold GroupWise?
(I will have about 2 TB to work with).
    2. Install GroupWise on the new server with the same po/domain name as 'old' server?
    3. Install eDirectory on the new server and bring it into a new tree.
    4. Perform a Gwava Reload migration.
    5. Shutdown eDirectory on 'old' server, backup and restore on new server, then shutdown old server, reboot new server after modifying server name & IP to match old server.
    6. Run DSRepair to insure new server is in sync.?
    Comments welcome! Stan

Maybe you can do the follow, if you have a small downtime.
1 .Stop GW, make a "chkconfig grpwise off", change IP of the server, reboot and configure the old IP as a secondary(with yast). Then you can start GW again(and "chkconfig grpwise on)".
    2. Install a new server with a new name and new IP in the tree.
    3. Install the GW-Agents on the new server and copy the config-files (*.poa,*.mta, web?, gwia?, /etc/opt/novell/...gwha.conf) from the old server, and "chkconfig grpwise off"
    4. In XEN you can expand the 750GB VOL and then the ext3 or you create a new VOL in XEN and mount it on the same place (/var/opt/novell/groupwise) BACKUP before expand !!
    5. If you have a new VOL make simply a rsync to the new VOL, online for the first time
    6. Online-Rsync(with delete-option) you can make ever day to see the consumed time, you can use also dbcopy, but this didnt delete old files
    7. On Day X you stop GW on old server, make a final rsync (or dbcopy, if you like)
    8. remove secondary IP from old server and configure this IP as a secondary to the new server.
    9. start GW (if you use gwmonitor its easy to configure it new with the install of GW)
    Similar "IP-mechanism" use a GW-Cluster.
In XEN you can make (or you have) a separate network to check this after the first rsync. Switch the server to this network, give the seconday IP and start GW and check the gw-logs and/or start GW with X-Window, if you have runlevel 5 or xming.
Because you have today > 750GB you should think about a second Postoffice, because the handling of big volumes(Backup, Snapshot,...)
That you can make after moving to the new server. Simply build a 2. GW-Server, create a second PO with C1 (or you wait to windermere ??) and move some user.
A Client with the old IP that moved on the new PO is automatically redirected.

  • Migrate to New Server

OES 11 SP2 on an older PE2850 that does not support virtualization!! This existing OES 11 install runs eDir, iFolder, LUM, and imanager (all installed from the disc). We need to migrate off the existing server, replace it with a new server and then migrate back to new server. Can someone point me to a document or instructions on how to do this?

Yeah, good question. I understand heneeds to migrate to new hardware,
but why back and forth is a good question. I wonder if there's a SAN
involved which could make it allso much easier..
Yes, need to migrate to new hardware (server) as our current poweredge CPU's do not support virtualization and as i understand it, you can not upgrade from non-virtualization CPU's to CPU's that support virtualization on this poweredge. The reason i say back and forth is because we do not have the new hardware yet. We do have a system that we can virtualize SLES11 on while waiting for the funds and waiting for the new hardware to get here.

  • Migrate Server 2008 Certificate Authority To New Server Different Host Name?

Our internal CA is installed on one of our Exchange servers.  Exchange is being migrated from 2010 to 2013, so all current Exchange servers will decommissioned and replaced with new new Hyper-V VMs with either Server 2008 R2 or 2012 R2 OS. The old VM
containing Exchange 2010 and the current CA will go away since we cannot afford to use the server resources and use up the required Windows license to keep that server running doing nothing but acting as a CA.
So, we will either need to move the CA to the new replacement Exchange 2013 server or some other existing server that's being used for something else (maybe one of the domain controllers).
What is the best way to handle this?  I don't think the migration from Exchange 2010 to 2013 allows for reusing the same host name on the replacement server and if we move the CA to another existing server, it will also be on a server with a new host
    name anyways.
Can we migrate the CA to a new server with a different host name?
What about reissuing all the active certificates from the current server to replace them with new certificates from the new server and then decommissioning the original CA?  Can this be automated in some way?
Which way is best and how would it be done?

When following the instructions in the guide, I would also consider to switch to new "sanitized" URLs in certificates (CDP and AIA) in case you had used the default URLs now. That's what I did this when migrating W2K3 CAs (with default URLs) to W2K8 R2.
Per default, the LDAP and HTTP URLs point to the CA server itself (HTTP) or to an LDAP objects that has the same name as the current server.
Migrating to a new server, you need to make sure that CRLs will still be published to the old locations - thus the new CA server would write to the LDAP object that corresponded to the old server, and HTTP might be fixed by redirecting the DNS record. (Make
sure this is documented so that nobody thinks it might be a good idea to delete the old object as it "references a server that does not exist anymore".)
As you have to fiddle with URLs anyway, I would then add new URLs having neutral names - that is URLs not including the name of the CA server. The new CA instance would then 1) publish to the old locations but not add these to certificates anymore and 2)
publish to new sanitized locations and add them to CDP and AIA URLs.

  • Migration from XI R2 to Xi R3 and new server box

    Hi,
We are planning to migrate to a new server and on that new server, we will install BO XI R3. We have the following issues:
    1. All our users have bookmarked the XI R2 address in their browser. How can we transparently forward them to the new server. Can we do it with DNS forwarding?
    2. Even we can forward to the XI R3 login page, but how can we keep running our existing Xcelsius Dashboards. The Xcelsius dashboards get refreshed using live office and the live office model points to XI R2 reports. Do we need to update the model for each of the dashboards to point to the new server?
Please let us know if anyone has any suggestion/experience.
    Regards,
    Tanveer.

My suggestion/experience is you will want to have access to both XIR2 and 3.0 during the migration.
A migration is one of the more complicated tasks and there could be unforseen obstacles.
In theory you should be able to migrate most or all of your XIR2 to 3.0 and then give out a new link to allow others to test. At the same time you leave XIR2 and the old links available in case issues arise you will have a backup.
Live office should be able to be redirected to 3.0 there is a legacy support built in for this (dswsbobje).
The final goal of course is to migrate everything to 3.0 and stop using the XIR2
There are many consultants both within BO/and 3rd party that can help plan a migration.
You should also have the support of the BO deployment team if migration issues should arrise.

    Tim

  • Report deployed to new server does not display static image

    Hi,
We have several web sites on a server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, SP1, 64-bit.  It has installed .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and Extended, ver. 4.0.30319 (according to Control Panel->Programs, as well as c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework).  Two of the sites use many Crystal Reports, most of which include a static image as a logo. This image is embedded in each report; there is no stand-alone image file that gets deployed.
Recently, we migrated to a new server, running the same version of Windows & .NET Framework.  As near as we can tell, the 2 servers are nearly identical, as far as configuration and permissions, etc. One notable exception is the DefaultAppPool, which is Classic on the original server and Integrated on the new. (When I changed the new server to Classic, the apps failed to run properly.)  The other exception is the old server is on a stand-alone box, while the new server is a virtual machine.
For one of the apps on the new server, the embedded logo images are not displaying on the page.  Instead, there is a little red X with the word "Image".  For the other app on the new server, the reports display fine.  Furthermore, if I copy one of the "broken" rpt files from the "broken" app to the "good" app, the report displays correctly!  And of course, the same file displays correctly in all circumstances on the old server.
This suggests to me that there is not a problem with the report file, per se', but rather with the environment to which it is deployed.  Permissions?  If so, where?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Upgrade from GW8 to 2014 on new server

    Hi all
We are looking to upgrade/move our current GW 8 (SLES10SP3 in a vm enviroment) to GW2014 (SLES 11 NEW vms). I've read alot about the in-place upgrade (thanks Danita!) but not so much on moving and upgrading. Just looking on some feedback on what the best steps would be for our situation? Thanks in advance!

    Hi squartec,
I did this upgrade a couple of months ago and had some issues. Here are some links to forum discussions I had.
    https://forums.novell.com/showthread...-case-question
    https://forums.novell.com/showthread...-after-upgrade
A few things I can offer:
    1. Purchase The Caledonia Upgrade Guide for Groupwise 2014 - definitely worthwhile.
    2. If you are running your Groupwise system on OES with NSS now, I would plan on migrating to a box running only SLES and using dbcopy with the -m switch just to make sure the case of your data is good to go just to simplify the environment.
    3. If you use ext3 for your native linux filesystem pay attention to noatime and review of this: https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7010924
    4. Make sure your post office / domain connections are ip only
    5. Make sure the monitor screens for all domains and post offices look completely healthy (no down or unknown connections). They should all be using SSL as well. I had an issue with the SSL configuration for my post office monitor that prevented me from accessing the monitor screen of the post office after the upgrade.
    5. Configure LDAP to edirectory in Groupwise before you start the upgrade.
    6. Although I still had an issue with this, make sure you change the domain and post office paths in console one just before you take them down for the final migration to the new server.
There are some other things that are outlined nicely in the Caledonia guide but those are some things to think about.
