  • Migrating to MAC from Windows mail

Next weeks I'll migrate to Mac environment by MAcBook Pro 15" retina, I used Windows Mail into Windows Vista and I'm interesting to convert old messages into new mail client. Can you suggest me mail client for mac and tool to transfer old messages ?

    Hi Rickyleroy,
It sounds like the Windows Migrations Assistant is what you need and it will move your mail into the OS X Mail client.
Check out what it can do for you at:

  • Switched to MAC from Windows

Help. I switched to MAC from Windows XP. I understand that you have to restore the settings so IPOD nano however by doing this it appears that I lose everything. How can I save all music that is saved to my NANO so I do not lose it?

If you moved all your data from your PC to your Mac, especially the music library for iTunes, then all you need to do is load your music into the Mac version of iTunes, re-create your playlists, and then connect the nano. The fact that the nano will be erased when you re-format it for Mac isn't a problem, providing you've already loaded your music into the Mac's iTunes. Once you reformat, you just sync with iTunes and all the music is put back on the nano.

  • Migrate Album art from Windows player to iTunes?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times but....
Is there a way to migrate the artwork from Windows media player into iTunes?
It seems that media player keeps all the art within each album folder which means that I already have the art for albums that the great and mighty iTunes can't seem to find. And I have checked to confirm this - about 700 or so albums that I have art for in media player can't be found in iTunes. I thought that they all accessed the same CDDB info.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You only need to drag something onto iTunes in order to import it, however it will need to be in the correct format. If the files in your Windows player are in Windows format you will need to convert them before you can import them.

  • I'm running Windows 7 on my Mac using parallels 7. Do I need to isolate my mac from windows?

If I isolate Mac from Windows, can I copy and paste between OS?  I use Windows 7 developer applications (Access, Visio, Visual Basic) for my job.  Wanting to make sure I am using the best practice without compromising my security of my Mac.  Any insight would be appreciated.

There is no absolute need to isolate Windows from your Mac.
You do, however, have to protect the Windows side of your computer with antivirus and antimalware software.
You can decide on the level of integration.
You can share a specific folder to move files between the two operating systems.
You can just drag and drop files between OSX and Windows without creating a shared directory.

  • Trouble Migrating Eudora mailboxes from Windows PC to Mac

I am having trouble transferring my Eudora mail boxes from my old Windows 2000 PC to my new iMac. I successfully installed Eudora for Mac but ran into a snag.
According to Eudora, Windows .mbx mailbox files can easily be migrated from Windows to Mac:
    http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/1644hq.html
However they must be converted with their CRLF utility in order to work under Mac. They provide a link to this utility on the aforementioned page.
I downloaded their CRLF v1.2 utility and installed it on my Mac, except either it's not working, or I don't know how to use it, and the readme instructions that came with it are confusing and unclear. Executing CRLF v1.2 generates a "...not supported in this system" error.
(taken from the Eudora support page)
    "Moving the Mailboxes:
Both versions of Eudora keep their mailboxes in the same format, so conversion is relatively painless. However, Macintosh and Windows file systems handle text differently, so line feed conversion must be done. You can do this by FTPing the files in ASCII (text) mode, or by using a carriage return/line feed conversion utility like CRLF. It's very important that you FTP or convert the files to take care of the carriage return/line feed processing.
The mailbox files on the PC are the ones in the Eudora directory that end in ".MBX". (Don't bring over the ".TOC" files). "
I tried removing the .mbx extension, but Mac only recognizes it as "Document." Eudora doesn't recognize it as an "Eudora mailbox file." I see the Eudora mailbox files Eudora generated have no file extension.
I signed up for Eudora support forum so I could ask there, but they never sent me a confirmation email with activation link, so I can't post anything there. There's no way to contact the webmaster about this problem, email bounces back with "we no longer offer support."

  • Migrating browsing history from Windows 7 to Mac.

I created a Firefox Profile and synced from Windows 7 to Mac.
Only a small amount of my browsing history was migrated (from 9 July 2013 onwards).
There are approximately 47 500 entries going back to September 2010.
I downloaded the History Export add-on and tried exporting my browsing history in the .html format. Firefox kept crashing and I could not complete this.
Is there any way to migrate my entire browsing history to my Profile and my Mac?
    Many thanks

  • Migrating Lightroom 4 from Windows to Mac?

I just bought a new MacBook Pro.
My photos are on an external hard drive, NTFS formatted.
Mac can read NTFS just fine.
How can I migrate my catalog to Mac? Is it even possible?
e.g. I'm concerned about Lightroom importing the catalog but not "finding" any of thoe photos, and then having to point it at each one manually. I have, of course, thousands.
    Thanks!

Hi Bruno! Are you Portuguese or Brazilian?
Do you have an iPod, which you could use as a transfer way? If not I would recommend you to use the "Back up to disc" feature. Then just insert your DVD's in your new MacBook and import your library.
If you want to use your iPod, then read this:
First sync your content to the iPod.
If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Use one of this programs (all of them will preserve your metadata):

    [iPod Access|http://www.findleydesigns.com/ipodaccess/index.html] (Mac and Windows)

  • How to migrate Library/DB from Windows to Mac

I am moving my photography business from windows to Mac (Vista convinced me). I already figured out how to get from adobe the Lightroom and CS3 licenses transferred, but I wonder how to deal with my pics? I have all my pics in a network hard drive and the library on my laptop with a backup on the network drive. My new configuration would be one iMac for doing all the work and one Mac Book for working on the road and sharing wit customers.
How to migrate my DB and photo collection?
How to set things up so I can use lightroom in both: My Macbook and the iMac? I ran a quick search and found many responses but I could not quite understand what needs to be done or confirm whether this scenario of two machines accessing same DB is supported for a NAS drive.
    Thanks!

Thanks Don, I am a writer and a photographer and probably not as savvy as you with technology or forums. I ran searches before posting my question, but nothing came back when using the keywords windows to mac, migrate DB, etc. So obviously I cannot even think about the right terms. Any link you can provide me with? So far after reading many posts around looks like LR will not work for my business because it does not support multiple PCs, but at least while I find another software solution, I want to be able to use my Macs with lightroom :-)

  • Migrate a catalog from Windows to Mac with Lightroom 3?

    Hi there.
So here's what I've got:  Photoshop Elements 7 for Windows and Lightroom 1.4 installed on the same PC.  I am in the process of migrating to Mac.  If I upgrade from Lightroom 1.4 to 3, which as I understand is a cross-platform license, will I be able to move my catalog with me?
I am a bit of a Mac newbie, so I'm not sure if there is equal functionality between the Mac and Windows versions of Lightroom.  Clearly there is a big functionality gap the on the PSE side (no Organizer on PSE for Mac).
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

They're pretty much functionally the same, but no DVD burning on 64 bit Win.
PSE Mac has a version of Bridge rather than Organiser. I'd do the catalog import on Win first, before moving it all over to Mac, as in import your PSE catalog in Lightroom. (It's not foolproof, I believe stuff gets lost-there's not full compatibility).
PSE is not cross platform, so you'll need to contact Adobe to make the switch.

  • Migrating Palm Desktop from Windows to MAC

I have just ordered a MAC and will receive it within the next few days.
I need to know how to transfer my present data to the MAC. I hotsync with the Palm Desktop as that allows me to password-protect files, which Outlook doesn't. What are the steps involved in preparing and performing the first hotsync on MAC?? Also, I use "Documents to Go", will this application just tra sfer to the MAC? Thanks for any help.

  • How to migrate photo library from windows into iPhoto '09

I have spent altogether too much time fretting about this transition and searching for solutions online, and I'm certain someone else has figured this out.
I just switched from Windows to a mac, and I'm wanting to move my photo library into iPhoto. I already have my photos separated into folders by event (I used Picasa for Windows). Is there any way to get those 312 folders to translate into iPhoto Events? And for the hail mary, is there a way to import any Picasa data into iPhoto? I've found iPhotoExpert to basically do that the other way around (i.e. migrating from iPhoto to Picasa), but I'm looking to migrate to iPhoto from Picasa.
    Anybody done this successfully?

I realize iPhoto is not a file manager, I've gotten over that part. At this point I would just like it to recognize different folders as different events. I feel like that is a little feature that would go a long way, not only for migrating libraries like in this case, but also in the future.
I will often create separate folders within my camera's menus for different events, so that when I import the photos it makes it easier to distinguish the different events, even if they span multiple days. If only there was a checkbox next to "imported items from finder" called "treat folders as events when importing" that applied recursively to folders imported.
Update: I took a leap of faith and dragged a portion of my library into iPhoto (after unchecking that "Autosplit Imported items from Finder" checkbox) and it did exactly what I was hoping it would! Turns out it does apply recursively, which is really handy. I can just drag my entire "Pictures" folder with all of my photos nicely organized into events by folder into iPhoto, and it recognizes each folder as a separate event without having to drag each folder separately! hooray! I ended up doing so with the "Photos" icon selected in the sidebar, I don't know if that made a difference or not. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

  • Switching to mac from windows / Outlook 2003 how to import?

I have just bought a macbook pro after years of using windows; experience is fabulous thus far but I have one problem in migrating over to the new machine. I'm considering whether to use Mail or Entourage. One of the main things that will help me choose is the possibility of importing my inbox (including sub folders) from Outlook 2003. (I'm running it internet only)
Is there any way to do this? Either in entourage or using some available translation program?
    Many thanks in advance.
    John.a.

I concur John, the best way to import your contacts from Outlook 2003 is to convert your Outlook Contacts to V-Cards as the link provided suggests. From an email content perspective, thats a bit more difficult. However, there are a couple of work-arounds:
    This is one:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=2002100306134721
Alternatively Outlook to Mac is a package from "Little Machines" that costs $10 for the fully functional version (very worth it) and allows you to do all this from within its application. I used it when I converted from Windows and it worked really well.
