Migrating Users Quotas on NSS Volumes

Hi !
We have a Netware 6.5 SP7 server with around 45000 users on it. We have a NSS volumes called USERS where must of the users have a quotas restrictions.
How can I migrate all the users quotas restrictions from a Netware server to an OES 2 Linux server ?
I tried many tools like SCMT, migfiles, tcnvlnx.nlm, ... Everything is migrating correctly EXCEPT the users quotas on the NSS volumes.
Any ideas ?

Quotas don't need LUM enabled users on OES2 Linux.
But if Eric is referring to Volume Space Restrictions and migrations
just folders, then it won't work.. directory restrictions should
migrate, haven't tried becoz we only user Volume based.
6.1.3 User Space Restrictions Only Migrated in Full Volume Copies
In consolidation projects where individual folders are dragged and
dropped, or where a volume is
copied to a folder on the destination server, user space restrictions on
the source volume are not
migrated to the destination volume.
If your consolidation project is set up to copy an entire volume, with
the contents of the source
volume being copied to the root of the destination volume, user space
restrictions are migrated to the
destination volume. If user space restrictions already exist on the
destination volume, they are
overwritten with the restrictions migrated from the source volume.

The miggui authenticates and I can select the folders for migration. Below

    Hi,
The log is from /var/opt/novell/migration of the miggui. The begining of the log is about the connection and the authentication to the servers. Which is 100%
I then also ran the "nbackup" command from a terminal with the same result. I don't think it matters, but I am migrating from-and-to NSS volumes.
I have looked at the tid and have checked all relevent points and again, no issues. Perhaps this is a "NCP" issue rather than a "miggui" issue.
    Thanks again.

I think there's a migration log and a debug log as well that may show some additional info.

  • Migration Assistant created admin user w/ Macintosh HD volume on desktop

    Hi,
    Summary:
MBP 17" (running Leopard) logic board died
Retrieved hard drive from MBP and put in USB 2.0 caddy
Bought Mac Mini 2.5 intel core i5 w/ latest Mountain Lion
Used for a couple of days as main Administrator user, set up a VPN etc, every working fine.
Made a back up using Time Machine on a USB connected My Passport Edge for Mac
Used Migration Assistant to transfer user account from MBP HD (with Leopard) - this was the main adminstrator (not root superuser) of the MBP
When prompted, renamed the Leopard user account to MacBook so no conflict with new Mountain Lion administrator user
Transferred everything but applications and download folder of the main (administrator) user on the MBP.
    All appeared successful.
Restarted Mac Mini and logged into the User account created by Migration Assistant---all files there etc so far so good.
Then I noticed that this migrated user still had Admintrator rights and appears to have reset some of the global settings effecting the original ML admin user (the one I eventually want to carry on using)
First inkly of this was that the VPN server I set up was no longer recognised by Safari in any accounts on the machine.
Logged into original ML administrator user and changed the migrated MBP user to a 'standard' user with no rights to do change settings on the computer.
[still can't get Safari to recognise the VPN proxy server]
Decided I'd better make a back-up to the Time Machine on the My Passport, but had to follow these instructions http://pondini.org/TM/A4.html for a 'Full Reset of Time Machine'. Which did the job.
Then I logged back into the migrated MBP user account to look around. There on the desktop is a volume called 'Macintosh HD' (the same as the main computer default name that is used my Mountain Lion.
When I do a get info on this volume it tells me the following:
    Kind: Volume
Created: Friday, 19 October 2012 (which is an odd date)
    Modified: Today ...
    Version 10.8.2
    Formal: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    Capacity: 499.25GB
    Available: 361.32GB
    Used .....(127.93 GB on disk)
              Sharing and Permissions
                   You can only read
                   system Read & Write
                   wheel Read only
                   everyone Read only
Can I delete this volume off the desktop or will that mean I lose all the files and folders for this user? Why is there a 137GB volume on the desktop?
Also, as it's called Macintosh HD (the same as Mountain Lion's Computer name) isn't this likely to be causing some clashes?
I will eventually be deleting this migrated user, once I have all the emails, notes, etc off Entourage's Main Identity imported into Outlook 10. In the meantime this volume on the desktop is worrying me.
My question is: what should I do about this double Macintosh HD volume on the migrated MBP user account?
    Thanks for your help.
    Cheers,
    Tracy

There are settings in Finder's Preferences to show Hard Disks on the desktop. So, that is likely normal. Deleting it would be bad.

  • How to list all directory quotas on an OES NSS Volume ??

    Hi
I need to list all the directory quotas on an OES2 NSS volume, and haven't succeded yet!
I've tried to extract the info by inspecting /_admin/Manage_NSS/Volume/<volname>/DirInfo.xml, but it's always incomplete, as the file seems to have a 'fixed length' of 1024K.
    Is there any way to:
    a) completelly copy the file somewhere without the 1024K restriction
    b) any other util that could do the job
    Thanks!

  • Migrating GW without NSS volume

    Hi,
Running GW 2012 on a NSS volume on SLES11sp3 with OES11sp2.
I want to migrate my GW (GWIA, MTA, PO, Webaccess, Messenger) to a new SLES server but I only want to use a EXT3 volume.
What is the best way to do this migration?

This is just like any other migration, except you need to see if your NSS volume
was Long Namespace, and if there is any likelihood that there are mixed case
files. If there are, then you would need to run dbcopy with the -m switch to
migrate the files to all lowercase. If the files are already all lowercase, you
could use any type of copy procedure that you like. As Laura says, though,
doing two passes to avoid downtime is useful.

  • Can you auto shrink quotas on a volume for a particular user until it reaches a limit?

On a Server 2012R2 machine, we use quotas on the root of a drive to limit the amount of space users have in their home directory.  Some users we have to temporarily increase their quota if they are working on a big project.  But is there any mechanism
or script or scheduled task that we could use that will on a regular basis check that users quota, and if there is room to lower it, it will, but only lower it back down to a set value (or as close as it can get to that set value at the time it runs)?
That way eventually they will get back down to what their "normal" quota was, before we had to temporarily bump it.

    just a thought…
there has quota logging option: log event when a user exceeds their quota limit…. Create a scheduled task to trigger on the event, then configure Action to perform a script to get back down to what their "normal" quota… I don’t know
    if has this script…

  • Access forbidden when Apache is trying to use NSS volume

I'm helping a customer migrate from an OES2 SBE server to an OES2 Linux server running under VMware. The new server is up and seems to be running fine and I've migrated all of the data over, but not using the Migration Tools as I could not get them to work. (That's another thread in the forums. Could that problem be related to this problem???).
Anyway, on their old server they run Apache for their public web site and it's default directory is on an NSS volume. It's configured in default-server.conf and it works fine. There are no virtual servers configured in Apache
On the new server, I've duplicated every setting I can find in Apache and every permission in the file system to match exactly with the old server. However, all I can get from Apache is an "Error 403: You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected."
If I move the web folder off of the NSS volume and adjust default-server.conf, it serves the pages up just fine. So, I'm pretty sure it's NSS permissions related. The wwwrun user and www group are pre-existing in the Tree and the old server is using them and they appear to be LUM enabled. There's a Unix Workstation object in the tree for the new server, so I'm assuming it's LUM enabled. From what very little I understand about LUM, it appears to be working but I wouldn't bet much on that. I also tried configuring Apache to use a virtual host instead of the default-server and that didn't help either.
I've found several other threads and TIDS on the topic and tried them all but nothing worked. I'm at the end of my knowledge!

    Hello,
    system: 3node sles10.3 + oes2sp3
    nss-volume
Some of our users (Windows 7 + NC Client) report that they want to copy some files to their nss-share, it says not enough space.
The same when we wanted to copy files from the linux-console (cp) -> not enough space on device.
We definitely have enough space on the volume and there are also no quotas set.
    Can anyone help?

Some users? So others can write to that volume?
If not, have you maybe set a volume space restriction in nssmu on the properties of the volume? & what's the output of the console command 'df -h' and 'nsscon /spaceinfo'?

  • Migrate user data from SLES10sp4 OES2sp3 to new hardware

    Hi,
Running SLES10sp4 with OES2sp3. I just updated all patches on both the
    source and destination servers.
The command "cat /etc/*release" returns the following info:
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (x86_64)
    VERSION = 10
    PATCH LEVEL = 4
    LSB_VERSION="core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-noarch:core-2.0-x86_64:core-3.0-x86_64
Novell Open Enterprise Server 2.0.3 (x86_64)
    VERSION =2.0.3
    PATCHLEVEL = 3
    BUILD
I then ran "miggui" and connected to both servers and authenticated. I then
selected "consolidate" and selected the folders to migrate. After clicking
"start", the system runs for a few second and then fails with the following
    error:
FATAL - FILESYSTEM:migfiles:Fatal: Cannot migrate source path
/media/nss/DATA/Users/: nbackup: Failed to open dataset
    /media/nss/DATA/Users/ for backup
    Regards
    John

...mmmh, so applying a million patches, updates and rebooting a zillion times, still no success.
SOLUTION: rsync the two data volumes,
edited each user and group rights
Using iManager or Console1 ispretty slow, so I used NwAdmin (old netware management tool, still the fastest)
(found some interesting rights allocations, fixed them)
    changed login script
and all is good .... erm, watch this space

  • SBS and NSS Volumes

    Hi,
I am fairly new to Novell, but I have recently been looking at Open
Enterprise Server and Linux Small Business Suite.
I really thought that Novell was making the best server solution yet for
small businesses, and thought that I could walk away from Windows SBS.
Open Enterprise Server does a great job, NSS volumes are easily added in
imanager, and iprint really does a great job at printing. However, it's
too expensive for a small business, and it doesn't come with groupwise as
    standard.
I thought thats Linux Small Business Suite 9 would be perfect. I have just
installed it, and groupwise works well. Also creating users is easy.
But :- Why cant i simply add NSS volumes through imanager like I did on
OES? I thought that the ability to use Novell Volumes was one of the most
important things for a small business?
I am fairly new to this, so forgive me if it's just me! Any help is
appriciated. I have been looking at the feasibility of using Novell SBS
for small businesses that need; EMail/Printing/Volumes/Backups. Thought it
would be as easy to setup volumes as OES, and be simple to backup using
    Tar or rsync.
    Regards,
    Luke.

    Thanks for the comments.

I did early on as well -- but my own read is that the Novell Small
Business team felt they really needed to do *something* to go with the
Linux flow at Novell -- not a bad thing. It is just that the timing
was such that an OES iteration wasn't something they could do. (Part of
what drives the Small Business team timing is Brainshare in Utah every
    March).
At a guess, the next time round, we'll see an OES Small Business
product -- now that won't include BorderManager as that seems to be
only for the NetWare world, and folks can configure Linux based
firewalls, but it will include GroupWise.

Me too - I have three clients who pretty much must run Microsoft
servers, but for the rest, Novell is a much better fit.
As the world gets more 'fatigued' with Microsoft licensing and pricing
(both for applications and the OS), the market for Linux based
alternatives (both for applications and the OS -- including the server
OS) will be increasingly attractive -- and Novell is rather well
    positioned for that.
I think one thing which might really drive the change will be solid
migration paths at the OS and application level. The current iteration
of Novell's Linux suite doesn't yet provide that (and really isn't
targeted there at this point). When it does, and folks can migrate
from NetWare or Microsoft Server, and from Win98/2k/xp to SuSE on the
desktop, and from Office to Open Office, AND from applications like
Quicken, Quickbooks, Act to Linux equivalents, I believe we'll see some
real movement in the small business marketplace. I honestly believe
that time will come -- and I for one very much need to get much more
Linux smart in preparation for that time.

  • Increase Individual Users Quota

In the past I was able to right click on a Users Home Directory > Properties > Novell Info and change their Quota.
Now when I do this, even though it says the change was made, it is not updating for the Users. They still cannot save to their Home Directory as it tells them their disk is full.
There is ample room on the Volume.
NSM does not report any errors on the Engine or Agent monitor screens.
NSM 2.5.1 (I know. An upgrade is on our list :)) On Netware 6.5
    Windows 7 User machines
    eDir 8.8.6
    NSS data on OES2 SP3
Any ideas. This is probably the first request we have had for a quota increase since we went to Windows 7. Could that be the issue?
    Thanks!!

    kbannister,
Are you able to increase these users' quota through NSM's Quota
Management interface? Or through iManager? Or have you only attempted
    this through ConsoleOne?
If none of those tools work, the problem might be the NSS settings on
the volume in question. Verify those with NSSMU.

  • NSS volume not visible

With NOWS 2.5 i have NSS installed and created DATA NSS
volume on second disc ( other than system )
Volume is activated, mounted, can be fully managed via iManager
or NRM, but admin or user logged via Novell Client ( 4.91 sp5 )
cannot see this volume. Volume SYS ( linux ext3 via NCP ) also not.
In eDirectory all OK - SYS, DATA, NSS admin object.
    What is bad ?
    Thanks for any tips.

May be Novell should setup a WIKI for SBS with option for public submission
of Tips or How-to (ofcourse this should be vetted before actually
    publishing)
