Migrating Windows 2003 (64 bit) to Windows 2008
Hi Experts!!!!!
Recently we have been facing performance issue in our CRM 2007 development system. particulary with Tcode CRMD_ORDER. We have analysed from all corners like processor (4 processor), RAM (12 GB), User load (40 users), memory parameters, Network load, and also the EWA report from solution manager which shows that performance factor as green inidcator. But, while checking the load by transaction wise CRMD_ORDER is taking lot of time. We also run the DB Check and statistics update regularly. So, I presumed that probelm is with CRMD_ORDER tcode and posted the issue with SAP where it has come up with a solution to migrate OS from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 as this is a issue with Windows 2003 server as per notes 1320013 and 1316558.
Now, what I would like to know is migrate from windows 2003 (64 bit) server to Windows 2008 then we need to follow system copy process only right. If yes then we need to follow homogeneous copy method only as this is same windows environment only or have to go with heterogenous copy. Also, if I do a homogenous copy then I need to take the backup and also export the data from current 2003 server and then clean it completely. After that need to install 2008 server and then install SAP freshly and then restore the data from backup or system copy method. Is this right or is there any other better way. Also, kindly suggest if you find any advantages or disadvantages with this process or migration.
Kind Regards,
Sharath
Hi, yes you can do standart homogeneous system copy. First of all you need to test your scenario (if it are Productive server)
Create good backup and after try to do TEST system copy on installed win 2008, (this will show for you all
possible errors and surprises. But note SAP does'nt support current the windows 2008 R2 , more information -->

MDT 2012 to Migrate from Windows 2003 32 Bit to Windows 2012 R2 64 Bit
I have used MDT for so long however only for client OS upgrade - XP to Windows 7/8.
We wish to use MDT to migrate from Windows 2003 32 Bit to Windows 2012 R2 64 Bit. All servers are virtual on HyperV or VMWare - plan is to use USMT hardlink Migration.
Is this supported? Has anyone used this for server migration?
Regards, Vik Singh "If this thread answered your question, please click on "Mark as Answer"Thanks Keith for your reply.
Even is USMT does not work, we are ok. SMIGdeploy will be helpful.
Basically, want MDT to run some scripts on the Windows 2003 server, post which install Windows 2012 and join it to the existing domain with the same computer name.
Then hydration kit to help with the installation of features etc. Also, we would like to take a complete backup to a WIM before migrating.
I am sure this is workable.

R12 Cloning from Windows 2003 64 bit to Windows 2008 R2 64 bit
Dear Gurus,
I have a 12.1.3 applications and 11.2.0.2 database running on Windows 2003 *64 bit*. Now I need to perform a migration from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2 64 bit. Please confirm if we can directly perform a clone from 2003 64 bit to 2008 R2 64 bit using Rapid clone?
Thanks in advance!

BTW the reason for raising this thread is that the clone failed for db Tier at a very first go with the below error where it states unknown OS Windows 2008 R2.

Case 2-Side by side upgrade
I would like to do side by side migration from windows 2003 32 bit that contains SSRS 2008 to windows 2008 R2 64 bit. The side by side would be happened at both OS level and SSRS level.

Migrating windows 2003 standard edition to windows 2008 enterprise edition
Hi
We are using ECC 5.0 and our PRD system is running on windows 2003 standard edition, and recently we have got some physical memory problem.as windows 2003 standard edition supports only 4 GB of RAM. and we want to extend our RAM for that we are planning to upgrade os to windows 2008 enterprise edition,is that possible.and after upgrading OS what are the activities that need to be performed for SAP to run succesfully, kindly suggest.
Regards
PranavHi Markus
I read note SAP Note 690432 - Windows 2003 Support in it regarding upgradation of os windows 2003 standard edition to windows 2003 enterprise edition.
Upgrade of Your Operating System
If you upgrade an existing SAP system to Windows Server 2003 perform the
following actions:
o Install the latest R3DLLINS
You find the latest dynamic link libraries R3DLLINS for Windows
Server 2003 on the EXT-Kernel CD in the NTPATCH directory.
o Replace the R/3 kernel with the EXT-Kernel.
If you do not replace it you will get error "SICK" after the first
logon attempt after the start.
In this case, download the disp+work package(s) from the SAP
Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/patches and unpack the
patch(es) to directory usr\sap\exe:
dw*_<patch-level>
Use at least patch level 186.
o Use the latest saposcol version.
This version supports the changed performance counter of Windows
Server 2003 to determine values for ST06 and RZ20.
You can find the latest version in file saposcol_<Patch Level>.CAR.
in the SAP Service Marketplace.
o SAP DB only: See SAP Note 315237.o Compatibility of the Hardware with Windows Server 2003
You can perform the upgrade to Windows Server 2003 only if the
hardware has been explicitly released for this purpose. To check,
do one of the following:
- If the Windows Server 2003 CD is available, check compatibility
with WINNT32.EXE in the \I386 directory. The exact statement
is: <DRIVE:>\I386\WINNT32 /CHECKUPGRADEONLY. The result is
stored as text file WINNT32.LOC in the present Windows
directory (e.g. C:\WINNT).
- The hardware has successfully passed SAP hardware certification
(http://www.addon.de).
- The hardware is contained in the Microsoft Hardware
Compatibility List (http://www.microsoft.com/hcl).
- The hardware has been released for Windows Server 2003 by the
manufacturer. This information is published on the
corresponding website.
o Kerberos Single Sign-On
When the SAP system is installed on Windows Server 2003 you can
setup the Kerberos Single Sign-On. If you use the kerberos protocol
the information exchanged between the SAP frontend and the
application server for authentication is encrypted.
The procedure for setting up Single Sign-On is described in all
recent installation guides which you can download from the SAP
Service Marketplace at: service.sap.com/instguides.
o SAP domain under Windows Server 2003
Follow the instructions of the Windows documentation for the
migration of a Windows NT 4 domain to Windows 2003. For the SAP
environment some additional points need to be observed.
For Windows NT 4 there are two models for the SAP system domain:
- Single domain
All users and the SAP system build one single domain. This
domain can be migrated to Windows Server 2003 and exist there
as single domain.
- Additional domain
There is one domain for the users and a second domain for the
SAP system(s). For a migration to Windows Server 2003 the SAP
system domain has to be created as child domain under the user
domain. A "Top-down" procedure is to be used. The higher domain
(the user domain) must be migrated prior to the SAP child
domain. If the user and SAP domain is part of a larger domain
structure the complete domain structure for Windows Server 2003
needs to be planned in a preparing phase. Usually, the
structure created under Windows NT 4 has to be re-arranged and
consolidated.
The name space of the root domain and all sub-ordinated domains
has to be defined and the distribution of the DNS services
needs to be determined.
Note the following:
The SAP domain has to be created as child domain.
The SAP domain must not be converted into an organizational
unit (OU). OUs are not supported by R3SETUP and R3up.
in it nowhere it is mentioned about system copy so plz suggest. -
Installation of oracle8i on windows 2003 64 bit
Hi,
We have oracle 8.1.7 on windows 2003 32 bit, now we want to migrate our system to 64 bit windows with oracle 10.2.0.4.
But when we we are trying to install oracle 8.1.7 on windows 2003 with 64 bit we receive below error.
ORA-12546 tns permission denied.
Kindly help us to resolve the same. as after installation of 8.1.7 we can be able to migrate the database to 10g.
It is not possible to use import export due to application dependency.
Kindly advice

Hi,
Thanks for the reply,
After doing import of the production schema on the 64bit server with 10g.
users are not able to log in into the application as password encryption description is not at all happening, as a result users are not able to log in to the application. What sort of password encryption? Did it have anything to do with the character set by any chance?
Is it ok if we apply 8.1.7.4 patch on production server, move that backup on 64 bit server & directly migrate it to 10g 64bit. (While doing the testing we have applied the 8.1.7.4 patch on the 8.1.7.0 database on 32 bit & application worked fine with no problem)As you have indicated that there were problems getting the 8i installation to work on a 64 bit server, I would again advise to upgrade to 10g on the same server and then migrate to 64 bit edition on 64 bit server. -
Anyone running UPK 3.5 (Server) on Windows 2003-64 bit?
I am trying to install UPK 3.5 Server on Windows 2003-64 bit, with the Oracle 11g client, connecting to an 11.1.0.7 Oracle database that's on a remote server. The installation is failing with a connectivity error that I suspect is related to the 64-bit configuration. But before I throw in the towel and revert to Windows 2003-32 bit, I thought I'd see if anyone out there is successfully using the 64-bit version who can help me out.
Thanks in advance for your assistance,
JaneneOk, So I am finally able to install UPK 3.5.1 on Windows 2008 Server 64 bit.
My database sit on linux machine which is OEL 5 64 bit.
Now , I am facing different issues :( .. like windows authntication and user privilges even though the user i am using in installer has SYSDBA privilges still it doesnt take it
installation guide is pathetic .. sorry to say ..
my solution was this ..
The development team has gotten back to me. They have requested stated the following:
"This error is an Oracle message. We have addressed this particular error a few times. The error message indicates that our installer is not finding an Oracle ODBC driver to use to make the connection. The installer looks in the registry for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ODBC Drivers key to find any with "Oracle" in the name to try connecting with. Please get a screenshot of this registry key."
If the registry is empty, please attach the screenshot and navigate to: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html.
Unzip the 32 bit into C:\Oracle\instantclient_11_1_X32 folder. You have to unzip both the instantclient-basic-win32-11.1.0.6.0.zip and instantclient-odbc-win32-11.1.0.6.0.zip.
After unzipping, run the odbc_install.exe this will install and register the driver for the 32 bit into the (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ODBC Drivers).
thanks guys .. please always share ur solutions.. -
Link to downlaod 10.2.0.4 for windows 2003 64-bit
hi, can you help me to provide link to download 10.2.0.4 for windows 2003 64-bit?
ThanksOn the OTN site there's a download page with 10.2.0.4 for Windows Vista x64 and Server 2008 x64, but for "plain" Windows x64, I see only the base 10.2.0.1 release.
So you would need a Patch Set for 10.2.0.1 -> 10.2.0.4.
For retrieving/being allowed to use Patch Set releases, you need Support (or SULS as the service is called in contractual terms) and a support web account.

Windows 2003 64 bit and Oracle Client install issues
A bit of background. We are a Microsoft shop using SQL Server 2005 / Windows 2003 64 bit servers. We need to have ODBC drivers and Oracle OLE provider to connect and transfer data vis SSIS.
We have installed a package (ODAC10203x64.zip) for OADC 10.0.2.3 which we downloaded from the Oracle website.
We see the software in the program file group. We cannot find the Oracle ODBC drivers, also can't find the Oracle OLE Provider. However the Oracle installation package shows the Oracle OLE Provider has been installed even though we cannot find it anywhere.
Any suggestions?Hi!
But I get the warning

We have a report package that generates customised reports
We generate the PDF's by simply "printing" to the Adobe PDF printer
In Windows XP Pro (32 Bit) the report creates the PDF perfectly
In Windows Server 2003 (32 Bit) or Windows Xp Pro (64 Bit) the PDF is created 90% perfect but some of text has slipped on the page.
Whilst we are looking into the report writer (Dev Express) I would like to rule out any Acrobat issues.

MarkI think it will work fine if you use the "Enterprise" authentication option. It may have dependencies on 32 bit components. So, that's why we must run IIS in 32 bit mode even though it's on a 64 bit OS. That means CR supports 64 bit OS systems only if you bring down other components that CR uses to 32 bit levels. I'm not sure if that is considered "full support".
We are trying to use the LDAP authentication option, but that tab is disabled. Other tabs such as Active Directory and WinNT are disabled as well. There maybe another component that we must bring down to 32 bit processing.
Is there a way to enable the LDAP authentication configuration tab?
thanks -
Issue with SAP Authentication in a Windows 2003 64 Bits Server
Hi Experts
I have an issue in a Windows 2003 64 Bits Server in CMC when i'm in the authentication section i choose SAP the Role Import works fine and I can see the Users Group from SAP BW but the users don't appear.
I try the same thing in a Windows 2003 32 Bits with the same parameters and works fine i can see de User Groups and The Users from the same BW Server.
I Think i could be a problem with the 64 bits server the issue is the users from SAP BW are not imported.
Regards Marvin Soto.Hi Ingo,
we have some thing similar issue. can you please help us out.
We Imported users and in options we selected concurrent and every thing worked fine up to 1 month and then automatically our license key say you have only 2 named users. we have a license key for 100 named users now. do we need to delete all the concurrent users from sap now and we need to re-import them by selecting named in options tab of sap. what is the work around for this. i tested by changing the one of the sap user profile to named instead of concurrent, then i am able to login to infoview using sap credentials but when i open a report its says you don't have enough license to perform this operation. can i know why is this happening.
