Hello,
I am Planning on oracle applicaiton migration from AIX to Sun server. which is the best document to follow.
Thanks

Please check .
if endian format is compatable, you can consider using transportable database for migration .

  • Has anyone used Migration Assistant to move services from one system running Server to a new system?

So, I've purchased a Mac mini to replace my aging Mid 2009 mini on which I've been running Mavericks Server.  In trying to answer the question of how best to move services from the old machine to the new, I've stumbled into the fact that Migration Assistant can apparently migrate not just user data for workstations and laptops, but also service data for servers.  The problem is there isn't much detail in the docs about how good a job it does when going from one machine to another without changing OS releases.  There's a very detailed document in the KB about going from older versions of Server to new (OS X Server: Upgrade and migration from Lion Server or Snow Leopard Server) and a general doc on migrating from another Mac under Mavericks (OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks) but that has no details about Server.
Has anyone used Migration Assistant to move services from one system running Server to a new system?  Are there any details that are particularly important to get right?  Are there things that require manual steps after Migration Assistant is done?
There are other ways I could tackle the problem, of course.  I could simply swap drives between the systems, but the new system has two drives that are bigger, faster, and I intend to mirror them.  That would complicate such an approach.  I'd really like to keep the conversation constrained to a discussion of Migration Assistant as the primary method.

yes. I migrated a server frm lion to mavericks following these notes a while back:
OS X Server: Upgrade and migration from Mountain Lion
i do not recall having any problems with it.

  • Migrating current mobile user accounts from one OS X Server to another

I have not been able to find ANY answers to my situlaton.
I have a small office that currently has a Mac Server 10.4.11 server running that has many "mobile user" accounts setup.  This was done because we have so many mobile users coming in and out of the office.  When the user comes back they sync their home directory witht th server here.  Works great.
We recently purchased a new Mac Server running 10.7.4.  Set it up as the Open Directory Master.  I unbind from the old server and bind to the new server.  Everything seems to be working just fine except when I go and add a current mobile user to the new server it creates a new user account on the client device (MacBooks) as if the previous user settings didn't exsist.  Since they need to be mobile users and not just network users I haven't been able to find a solution to this problem any where.
Is there a way on the client to tell it to use the old user account stored on the MacBook to use with new mobile user connected to the new server?
Or is there an easier way of doing this that I don't know about?
    Thanks,
    TK

If I understand what you wrote, no.  The reason is this.  If memory serves...  In 10.4.11 accounts were assigned a UID.  In 10.7.x, accounts are assigned a UID and a GUID.  Most everything relies on the GUID at this point.  So, what you have is an account named marysue on the workstation and it is assigned a UID like 1045.  Now you created marysue on the Lion server, but you likely did not recreate the UID to match the old server.  And thus, the UID value is different but more importantly you now have a GUID value like EC0F9357-8EF2-4D3B-B6F3-2E3016400114, that is associated with the account.  So, the user, despite having the same shortname, is different.
In addition, you are working with two different directory systems.  10.4 still used NetInfo (ah, I miss you so).  10.5 and above use DS local flat files, even when bound to an LDAP system.
So, probably the easiest way to do this, provided I understand what you are seeing is the following.  Let's assume the following:
You have a mobile account on a workstation for the user maryjoe with a UID of 1034 that came from the 10.4.11 system.  You have this account cached.  You have a home folder in /Users/maryjoe.  You have now bound to the new server which contains a user named maryjoe likely with a UID of something other than 1034 and with a GUID value that likely did not exist in the old directory system, also with the shortname of maryjoe and a home path of /Users/maryjoe.
So when you log in, you are likely being pathed to /Users/maryjoe, but you are seeing a default Dock and no documents because of permissions.  My guess is that if you used Terminal to view the Users directory you would see something like this (open Terminal and issue the command ls -l /Users/:
    drwxrwxrwt   4 root       wheel  136 Apr 18 21:35 Shared
    drwxr-xr-x+ 14 locadmin  staff  476 Jan 21 7:42 locadmin
    drwxr-xr-x+ 14 1034  staff  476 Mar 21 10:42 maryjoe
Note the folder maryjoe is not owned by maryjoe, it is owned by the UID of maryjoe from the old server.
Ok, so long story short (sorry for the log explanation, especially if you are experiencing something else that I did not get from the post), all you need to do is update the permissions of the home folder.  Do this:
1:  Log in as the local admin
    2:  Open Terminal
    3:  Issue this command:
         sudo chown -R maryjoe /Users/maryjoe
Even with a lot of data in the home folder, this should not take more than a few minutes to complete.
When the command completes, run this command again:  ls -l /Users/
    You should now see
    drwxrwxrwt   4 root       wheel  136 Apr 18 21:35 Shared
    drwxr-xr-x+ 14 locadmin  staff  476 Jan 21 7:42 locadmin
    drwxr-xr-x+ 14 maryjoe  staff  476 Mar 21 10:42 maryjoe
Now try logging in as the user.  With a little luck I divined the issue and this will have you up and running.  Now, I normally will also purge the cached account in /var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/users/ but that might be a bit daunting.  So let's start with the simple process first of ensuring home folder permissions are correct.

  • Oracle E-business suite database migrate from AIX to Linux

Oracle 11i application database migration from single Aix instance to oracle Linux cluster RAC.
What is the easy way to migrate?
Migrate single instance from aix to linux cluster.
    OR
Migrate single instance from aix to linux cluster RAC.
We have installed oracle Linux cluster.
Please help me which way I can go with RAC.
    Thanks
    Prince

Migrating to a single instance will be the simplest. The migration itself will not be much different between the two because you're migrating from one platform to another. The options you have available are, the traditional IMP/EXP, datapump, and RMAN to migrate to either a standalone or RAC environment. The difficulty will be in creating a RAC environment and a little a few extra steps in the RMAN restore. Working with RAC will make things harder, but the actual migration is similar. The steps to IMP/EXP, whether it's traditional or Datapump will be no different. However, standing up a RAC database will be.

  • SAP Printer migration from AIX to windows

    Dear Experts,
We migrated our ECC from AIX to Windows.
We want to migrate printers from AIX to windows.
Do we have to create queues from scratch in SPAD?
Can we use existing queues in SPAD?
Please guide what all steps are required.
Your help will be highly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Harry

    Hi Hary,
For windows environment you need to change the spool server hostname in SPAD and activate all the relevant printers.
Please check whether you had any network printers configured on AIX host. You can use command
    smitty spooler  or
    lpstat -W -p<queuename>
If there are any spoolers configured for SAP system, you need to recreate them on windows.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
    1) Does oracle support this kind of migration?Yes.
    2) Is this achievable, without involving any functional consultants? You do not need any functional consultants for this migration.
    3) Can anyone help with some metalink notes or document on this migration? Please see these documents.

  • Migrating from AIX to Windows

    Hi all,
We are considering in a SAP R/3 4.6c to ECC6 Upgrade, the option to migrate from AIX to Windows OS.
We heard that this option is not so usual.
    - Could you tell us some feedback and recommendation about it?
    - What kind of issues will we face?

    Usual? What is "usual"?
    > - Could you tell us some feedback and recommendation about it?
    > - What kind of issues will we face?
This depends heavily (if not only) on your environment. Some thoughts:
    - Windows is little endian whereas AIX is big endian; this may affect connected software (non-SAP software, filesystem transfers etc.)
    - additional software plus licenses may become necessary (cluster, backup...)
    - do you have enough knowledge about Windows (+ its internals) as you have on AIX? Windows is not "easier" by default just because you have a mouse to click... (even if everyone thinks it is). Windows administration is totally different to any *nix (you may need to change scripts, consider updating regularly, think about problems you didn't have before (Virus, Worms) etc.)
    - Hardware for Windows is usually cheaper than Power based hardware for AIX
    - Windows licenses (+ CALs) must be bought
Just as another thought: Did you consider running Linux instead? You will use the same (cheaper) hardware with a more common environment (if you come from AIX)?

  • Oracle E-business Suite release 12.1.1 migration from AIX to OEL on OVM

    Hi
We will be migrating our current Oracle E-business suite release 12.1.1 production environment from AIX to OEL using OVM. We are experienced in migrating from one platform to another on single box but this is the first time we will be using OVM.
We will be gratefull if somebody can provide us the right path to migrate to OVM, my understanding is:
    1. Setup Hypervisor, install OVM guests OS using OVM templates
    2. Install E-business suite environment using OVM templates
    3. follow Export / import document to migrate E-business suite environment
    need suggestions
    Thank You
    Shahrukh yasin

No. Do not use the EBS templates.
    1. Get OVM up and running.
    2. Install OEL guests.
    3. Check requirements for running OEL on EBS 12.1. They are different for different version of OEL. There are several oracle support articles detailing the requirement from OEL4 thru OEL6. I personally would use OEL5.
    4. Clone your DB and app tops and get them working.
    5. When you get ready to cut, refresh your DB. You can use datapump but it will take some time depending on how much data you have. You may want to upgrade your DB. If you're running anything less than 11.2.0.3. If you do, then datapump is the best option. At least in my opinion. There are several issues with running 12.1 and 11.2.0.3. Make sure you address them. There are several support articles detailing them. Oracle 10 database isn't supported on OVM. 10 isn't offically supported at all anymore.
    6. Rerun you clone scripts on your app tiers and reconfigure your app layout.

  • DB migration from AIX to Linux

    Dear Experts,
We are planning to migrate our existing 10g database of 11.5.10.2 from AIX to Linux. Can anyone share their experiences? Some docs/URLS will be helpful. One of my friends told that it takes more than 36 hours to complete the database migration. Is it really true? The current database size is approx. 100GB.
After the migration does, apps function as usual?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
You can use export/import or transportable tablespaces to migrate the database.

    Note: 362205.1 - 10g Release 2 Export/Import Process for Oracle Applications Release 11i
How long the task would take? Depends on the hardware resources you have. The best practice is to try this on a test instance first.
The application should work as expected once the task is completed.
    Thanks,

To move/migrate the 11i Apps Database alone means you need to follow the export/import method.
Please refer the note: 362205.1 "10g Release 2 Export/Import Process for Oracle Applications Release 11i"
In general steps to follow the DB migration is :
    1. create the complete export file in source database
2.create a new DB in the target instance
    3.perform the import
4.create the new auto-config and sync with apps tier

  • Porting Forms/Reports when migrating Oracle 9i DB from AIX 5.2 to AIX 5.3

    Hi,
Looking for advice on how to port Oracle Forms/Reports modules when moving our Oracle 9i database from AIX 5.2 to AIX 5.3 platform. Details are as below:
Oracle Forms and Reports v6i (There is no version upgrade in Forms & Reports)
Database is Oracle 9i (No upgrade in database)
There is upgrade in hardware only : from AIX 5.2 to AIX 5.3
The application is having some 8000 forms/reports modules
Do we need to recompile the forms/reports after porting the 9i database to AIX 5.3 ?
Any direction would be appreciated .. Thanks !!
    Regards,
    Himansu

    Hi,
Thanks for the response, we are going to recompile the Forms/Reports in the new environemnt.
Just wondering how much time it may take to recompile all the 8000 odd forms/reports modules.. ? Will 10 seconds per form/report module be safe enough for the compilation ? Because in a batch file every time it is going to connect to the database while compiling a module, I am assumming it may take some 5 seconds to 10 seconds for the compilation. Thanks for the help again.

  • How to export and import from AIX to solaris a whole schema with different

how to export and import from AIX to solaris a whole schema with different character set
import done in US7ASCII character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set
import server uses WE8ISO8859P1 character set (possible charset conversion)
    Import terminated successfully with warnings.

The conversion between the character sets on the two servers are handled automatically. Export from one server will export the data given the character set defined on that server. Import into another server will import the data given the character set defined on that server, performing a conversion if necessary. This can be a problem when going from single-byte to a multi-byte character set. In your case, the warning is simply for your information, shoule be no real problem given the character sets you're using.

    Hi
If you are checking for CREATE option then Sales Doc Type
For more Info goto SWO1 transaction -> BUS2032 --> DIsplay --> Execute --> There SELECT the method which you want to perform... There you can fine the MANDATORY parameters also....
Or in DISPLAY mode PLACE Cursor on the Required Method and CLick the PARAMETERS button on toolbar...

  • File from AIX to AS/400 via FTP

    Hi,
i need to transfer a file as it is from AIX to AS/400. Doing that with WS-FTP works fine. So i set up a scenario in XI, getting the file from the AIX with NFS and putting the file to the AS/400 with FTP. The runtime workbench tells me that everything is ok (successful) and the file is created on the specified host in the specified folder.
But - the file is not created on the host, or maybe its not visible? Any idea what to check to get a solution? The host is ok, the folder is ok, WS-FTP works fine resulting in a visible file, in XI everything is fine, but the file is missing at least. I really dont know where to have a look at. Anything special to AS/400 in XI?

I mean the second option(File being picked by some other program on AS400 side)
Is the file name or the pattern of the file name the same when you create it using WS-FTP and via XI?
May be, the files created by the XI system are only qualified to be picked by that INVISIBLE Job(Based on some selection on file name patterns) (Assuming that it exists)?
Just keep the FTP folder on the As400 side open while you run the scenario and make sure everything happens in front of your eyes..:) (Like the file coming and being picked away..)
