Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update version 1.1

I have an original Air and older Intel iMac and Remote Install utility version 1.0
I see there is a new Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update version 1.1
The details of this update states:
Products Affected
MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008), MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008)
So I am concerned about whether I should proceed to install this on my iMac to update the Remote Install capability since none of my hardware is specifically mentioned.

Switch900, The basic process works very well. The basic instructions are at:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1131
I tested since I did the recent update (even though my version is still showing version 1.0) and it is working properly. However someone tipped me off to go to:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/migrationanddvdcdsharingupdate.html
to get the update again (without getting it via Software Update) and in his case, that gave him version 1.1 I have yet to do that and will need to test again once I have done that.
But basically you install this software on your MAC or PC that has a DVD drive, load a disc containing software that you want to install on your Air, in that other MAC or PC and then get to it from the Air and install the software over your local network.

  • Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update" (1.1)

I recently installed the "Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update" (1.1)" update using the Software Update application on 10/19/08. The installation went fine with no errors or apparent problems.
I noticed yesterday that when I adjust the brightness up or down on my display ( I have an original 15" Apple Studio Display) the graphic that used to appear showing the brightness level no longer appears but the brightness does change. Also, I have my Epson USB printer connected to one of the USB ports in the monitor and it no longer appears in my Printer list and now I can not print.
When I go into the System Profiler, click on Hardware Graphics/Display it gives me the information for the Display correctly but at the last line it shows " Display: Status: No display connected". When I click on Hardware USB it just shows a generic description USB Bus with no other information included for the monitor or the printer (printer is attached to USB Hub in the monitor}. When I click on Hardware Printers I get "No information found."
I also used to be able to use the power button on my monitor to turn on the computer and display at the same time but that no longer works.
I have tried Repairing Permissions and also the Pram/NVram reset to no avail.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Bill

After changing cables, swapping ports, running Applejack AUTO in deep clean mode, booting up with my hard drive that had not been updated with the "Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update" (1.1)" and finally the Tiger Retail boot installation DVD, I finally gave up without solving the problem and shut down the computer.
After 2 more cups of coffee, I realized there was 1 thing I totally forgot to do. I remembered that I had not unplugged the computer from the outlet and held the reset button located near the battery on the motherboard.
You guessed it, everything is now working fine.
The only thing I can not figure out is why this happened after running the "Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update" (1.1)". Go figure.

  • Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update Problem

Hi, my Mac OS 10.4.11 has a software update on 10-19-2008. It installed the update Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update, since then, my sharing panel stopped working, I can`t set any option of Services tab and my Firewall tab does not open, it is gray and I can`t click on it. Just Internet tab work now. How can I fix that? Someone had this same problem?

    Hi Kaaru Ando ,
I can't find how to just ask a question.
Yes, it can be hard to find... the problem is if there are Categories at the top, you won't see the Post New Topic link, like here...

You can't share/play a music CD using Remote Disk. It's a limitation that Apple built in.
"MacBook Air and Mac mini do not support playing DVD movies or audio CD media with Remote Disc."
Remote Disk is limited to data transfers.
You will have to use the MBA external superdrive, or another compatible external DVD device hooked directly to the Macbook Air.
Otherwise, you will need to rip the CD's contents using your PC and transfer the music as data files.

  • Do I need the Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update...

...if I run only an iMac and a Windows laptop?

Yes, if you need to migrate from one computer to a newer one or another one. It isn't required for Windows.

  • Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update?

Do we need it? I don't have a MB nor a MBP nor a MB Air...and don't plan on buying one any time soon. Can we ignore this update?

Thanks. I believe ya, but kinda wishing for more responses. Lol

  • The Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update - Please help!

I have recently transferred my files from my 2007 MacBook Pro to my new 2008 MacBook Pro via target disk mode. I have transferred 50 GB of files by copying and pasting the files, and I have used a Firewire 800 cable.
Since I have successfully transferred my files, I have just noticed the following update.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3174
Is this update related to the process that I have used?
By not having installed this update before, could I have corrupted any files?
Should I erase the files, install the update, and copy the files over again, or is this update for something different?
    Please, please shed some insight!
    Thanks.
    Trisha

Your files would not have suffered any corruption due to the lack of the aforementioned update.

  • Update Migration Assistant and DVD/CD Sharing

    Hi everyone,
I'm just updating the Migration Assistant by Auto-Update and the Installation takes pretty long. It's been installing for over an hour now, and it's stuck at configuring installation. Time Machine does not do any backups either right now.
Is the update supposed to take this long or is something wrong. Thanks for helping me.

No. Sound like the update has failed. You can force quit and try again. But before you reinstall, I suggest doing the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • JDeveloper Migration and Customisation

Where I work we're trying to roll out a customised installation of JDeveloper. Customised in the sense that we've added some of our own code templates, set certain editor settings etc.
The problem I'm having is that we're rolling out 9.0.4 and when JDeveloper is started for the first time, it prompts the user to migrate their settings, which I find a bit odd because it's a virgin installation. Anyway, our code template customisations (in java.tpl) are getting lost i.e. JDeveloper uses the defaults. We've tried setting it up so that the files containing our customisations are copied over again after JDeveloper is started, but when we tried this we still got the migration message the next time JDeveloper is started.
Where is the flag that tells JDeveloper to perform the migration stored? Any suggestions as to how we can make this work?
    Thanks.

  • MIgration and Upgarade Documents

    Hi SDners,
My Current MDM Verison - MDM 5.5 SP06, Database - Oracle 10g, OS - Unix.
Now we are planning to migrate and Upgrade MDM Sytems
    MDM version - MDM 7.1 SP01  Database - SQL Server 2008, OS - Microsoft Windows Server 2008.
Just any information for migration Databse and Operating systems or procedue.
    ASAP.
    Thanks
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,
first - to ease up your life - you should consider upgrading to the latest MDM 7.1 release. That is currently SP3 whereas SP4 will be release most probably end of this or beginning next week.
Second, there is an [Upgrade Guide on Service Market Place|http://service.sap.com/installmdm71] that describes the upgrade from MDM 5.5 to 7.1.
Regarding the upgrade of the OS and Database, is it planned to use the same hardware? If not, you could setup the new servers first and ensure that the landscape is running as expected. Then you could archive your MDM repositories on 5.5, transfer the archived repositories to your new 7.1 landscape and perform the unarchive and upgrade on this platform.
    Best regards
    Michael

Will not show up in safe mode, will not show when started from Windows 7 DVD.
I suspect the Mac update wiped out my PC video drivers but can not think of a way to re-install?
Can see the PC volume from Mac side with files.
I've looked at all the online solutions so far and have tried most of them without success. Please help!

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • I need to share a file with sec.(windows based). She uses it all the time. I need to just download updated version every few days. I have an old airport extreme and was hoping to attach an external drive. Will this work?

I need to download an updated version of a file every few days to use. My secretary  works on the file all the time. I thought i could use my old airport extreme and attach an external HD and set up a network to do just this. At work we alll use pc's. How can i make this work? At the moment we use usb stick to transfer which is getting to be a bit of a pain as the file grows every week. Presently 5GB.

I thought i could use my old airport extreme and attach an external HD and set up a network to do just this.
Yes, you can use either the 802.11g or 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) to attach an external USB HDD for file sharing. Either AEBS model would allow you to share out this HDD to either Macs or PCs. From the PC, the shared HDD would appear as a network drive which you can map via Windows Explorer.
