Migration assistant built mac makes me validate apps with password, fix?

I built an Imac using Migration Assistant. Now when I run an app it prompts me to put in the password for the account I purchased the app. The error says that this app was purchased with a different account. Then I put in the password and the app works fine.
I guess I could build the computer from scratch, (yes, I know, I should of had a good backup).
The real reason I did it was that my laptop was not "upgraded" to Lion. So I wanted my Imac rebuilt the same way.
Any suggestions for fixing this problem?
Thanks!

Anyone have a suggestion? I can call Apple I guess.

Hi Christina, belated welcome to Apple Discussions if nobody said it already.
I've had some experiences with these new flash memory recording camcorders, and I'll give you a quick rundown of what I've learned. Many of them (JVC, Panasonic, etc.) tend to record in a .MOD file format, which is non-standard, proprietary, and unrecognizable by most software. I thought Canon was usually a little more standards-compliant, but it appears they also use this .MOD format in your specific camera model. There are likely a couple ways we can get around this though!
In order to play the files, you will likely need to change their file format (.MOD) to .AVI manually. You'll have to locate the files on your Mac, and then manually change the file names so that the file extension (after the period) is .AVI
At that point, a video player application such as http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html>VLC should play the files fine!
You should be able to transfer new video files from the camera to the Macbook Pro with no problems as well. Just plug in the camera to the computer via USB, and also make sure the camera is plugged in to charge. Once it's plugged in, open iMovie (came with the MBP, in the Applications folder) and the MBP should take care of the rest.
Let me know if you have any success with any of this!
FYI, the thread that I got some of the above information from is here:

    Have you tested this throughly?
As an example 'lock' Safari via your method.
Now use Spotlight to search for Safari, tap it - is it 'locked'?
Now go to your email & find a link to click - Safari opens again.
Guided access is not a 'lock' in any sense of the word, it is a tool designed to stop things happening, but many apps have multiple ways to be found or launched you can't easily block them all.
Mallik_Hyderabad, iOS doesn't have this feature & Apple do not seem interested in adding it (7.5 years & it still isn't an option) - use a passcode with a lock screen timeout if you have any sensitive data on the device or get an Android device.

When I go to migration assistant, and hit the continue button on the introductory screen, I get a message that says M Asst wants to make changes - type your password to allow this.   What is my password or how do I set one up for this?

When you set  up your Mac you had to enter a admin password to set up your user account.
If you did not enter one then try using the  "blank window" as your password. ie Just hit return with nothing entered.

  • Migration assistant from mac to mac

I'm trying to use Migration Assistant to transfer my files from my old computer (PowerPC G5) to my new mac mini. I have them connected with FireWire. I looked at the online instructions, and it seems like i need to have both hooked up to a monitor and keyboard to do this??? if i used an ethernet cord instead would that work? (of course, i don't have an ethernet cord, so i'm hoping this isn't the case.)
I'm not sure if Migration Assistant isn't locating the other computer because of the above, or if my old computer is that far gone that it's not working correctly. Please help before I panic! thank you!!!

  • Migration assistant new mac?

I bought a new MacBook Air - when I went to transfer files from my old MacBook - I used Migration Assistant - but both computers just sat looking for another omputer

Not saying you should do this, because it is up to you...
If it were me, I would reinstall OS X, then use SETUP ASSISTANT , not migration Assistant, and then use a Time Machine backup of the old one as source for the data/app/user import. The resultant setup will be a seamless transition from your old one, to your new one.

Where can i find the migration assistant upgrade download for a mac OS 10.4.1   I am trying to copy files from Mac 0sx 10.4.1.1 to a new mac

The update is available here, but you should manually move files via File Sharing or Target Disk mode instead of using it in that configuration.

  • Migration assistant doesn't see the portable drive with my time mache of my old mac

I bought the new macbook air, and want to put the settings and such from my old macbook air onto this new mac
my old mac has snow leopard
    my new one has lion
I use a WD harddrive for time machine, it is formatted for mac
what can i do to get these settings on the new mac?
    Slofke

You want to transfer from the Time Machine backups of your old Mac, right?  Did you connect the drive to the new one?   And select From Time Machine or other disk?
Does the Select the Source window (on Setup Assistant) or Select your System window (on Migration Assistant) not show the backup disk?   If so, try just clicking the Continue button.
If that doesn't help, the backups may be damaged.  Try to repair them, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • Migration Assistant: Source Mac not detected

Hi everyone :) I just bought a MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display (OS X) and I've been wanting to transfer all my applications/files via Migration Assistant to this Mac from the source Mac, my MacBook Pro 15" (2009 - I think it runs on Snow Leopard) I bought a thunderbolt cable to facilitate fast transfer but to my horror, the Migration Assistant on the target Mac is stuck on the "Looking for Computers" page and has yet to detect my source Mac (I'm running it in target disk mode). I've tried everything said on the forums: repair disk permissions/turn off firewall... But to no avail. Please help as I need to set it up before school starts!
More details: My source Mac has bootcamp (windows partition).. Does it in anyway affect this? Also, I have not touched Time Machine since I didn't know how it works. Is there any advice on transferring via thunderbolt?
Please help! Thank you so much!

It doesn't affect, so your problem is another one.
The first MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt was released in 2011, so your 2009 MacBook Pro has got Mini DisplayPort instead of Thunderbolt. This means that you can't transfer the files through Thunderbolt.
You have to look for another connector like Ethernet or FireWire (you will need adapters), or transfer your files through Wi-Fi (slow but you won't have to purchase anything)

  • HT2518 Migration Assistant/ PC-Mac

I didn't set the sleep mode before starting M.S. I have plugged in an Ethernet cord (was using wifi). Does anyone know if the info will still transfer if my MBP goes to sleep?

the migration assistant on the mac only lets you swap from mac to mac and i downloaded the same dos file you did which is for a pc only
so i have the migration assistant on my pc waiting to accept connection to the mac but it seems to be a one way thing right now
any help resolving this would be amazing

  • Migration Assistant Intel-Mac - Intel-Mac stuck transfer?

    Hi,
I have a Macbook and a Mac-mini of which the Mac-mini had a hard drive crash. I was successful in clearing the hard drive on the mini and installing the OS and applications. As both computers had almost exactly the same data, I wanted to Migrate the data from the Macbook to the mini. I connected the two computers via firewire and the files started to transfer. However, it seems to be stuck at around halfway at:
    Transferring your Applications folder
It reads that there is 1 hour and 53 minutes left for the last four hours.
Is this stuck or does it really take a long time to do this?
    TIA

"I wanted to Migrate the data from the Macbook to the mini."
Exactly what are you trying to migrate to the Mac Mini from the MacBook?
If you are trying to transfer system files, it won't work, as the Mini is a PPC Mac, and the MacBook is an Intel Mac.
Also, do both Macs have Tiger 10.4.10 installed?
Review this FAQ Can I use the Assistant to copy data to a computer that came with an earlier version of Mac OS X?.

  • Migration assistant stopped working and has left me with 100gb in 'other'? How do I delete 'other' and what is it exactly?

I recently invested $2000 (one week ago) in a Macbook Pro Retina 2014 2.8ghz 512gb. Dont get me wrong, I am in love with my product and am extremely satisfied but I have honestly encountered nothing but issues.
My first issue was the transferring of data from my 2010 white macbook 500gb. Both laptops have Yosemite installed and are 100% up to date but I have spent the last week getting them to talk to each other. I am not new to the workings of Apple but I have never endeavoured to use applications such as airdrop, migration assisstant or even bluetooth.
My first attempt was to transfer 200gb of files (Photos mainly, I'm a photographer) to my other laptop via a 64gb USB in segments. But after an hour and only 10gb getting copied across, I decided other alternatives may be of more help.
That is when I came to my first dilemma: AIRDROP. Airdrop is crazy. Yes I did click the option on my retina to search for older macs and yes they did connect. I can send files from my MBR to my white macbook 2010 immediately but my old macbook will not send files to my retina. Yes all of the necessary sharing settings are in place - both MacBooks have the same settings selected so I cannot figure out what to do. Information on this subject would also be helpful yet it is not the end of my troubles.
    Second Issue: Migration Assistant.
So yesterday I discovered this little 'gem'. I am a very impatient person so you can imagine i did not appreciate 20 hours of file transfers (via wifi as i do not have a thunderbolt to ethernet adaptor for MBR). Anyway that's all well and good if it actually worked. But of course it did not. I followed apples instructions and I was down to my final 4 hours this morning when my MBR told me the connection was lost and to reconnect. It was making the loudest whirring noise like air coming from inside the hard drive or something. I freaked out. My $2000 machine should not be doing this. It was only a little bit warm; not hot but it was incredibly loud, I'm not sure how to describe it. Keep in mind this computer is brand new so please tell me: WHAT WAS THE SOUND?!?!?!?! AND WHY? what was wrong? what could I have possibly done wrong? My wifi WAS working because my desktop PC was connected. So i waited and waited. Of course I couldn't actually do anything without quitting airdrop and in the end that's just what I had to do. A lot of time wasted for such an unsuccessful cause.
That brings me to my final issue:
So after migration had.... "completed" or crashed or whatever you want to call it, I at least assumed some of the files had maybe copied over and i could just resume from where I left off last time somehow. Oh how stupid that assumption was. My user account did in fact copy over but not a single file copied. And yes, I did log into that user account to check. ANYWAY, I went onto "about this mac" to see my storage info (still being optimistic about my wasted 20 hours). SURPRISE SURPRISE: Yet another problem. I now have 100gb in "other". This macbook is brand new. I should not have any GB in other. I am so incredibly annoyed. HOW DO I DELETE OTHER?! (preferably without downloading software) and is there anything else of importance in other that i should be careful not to delete that is contained within other?
I am only 15 years old  and this was a massive investment for me so I treat my Macbook like a baby. And no, I'm not spoilt by my parents. I had to work at Subway for a year to earn $2000 - without spending a single cent (My wage is only $9.00AUD an hour so i essentially worked some 222 hours for this macbook). And I'm not crazy, I needed it for school.
Anyway I'm not impressed with apple. I have Applecare but they aren't open on the weekends or whenever I try to call so that hasn't exactly been helpful. PLEASE HELP ME.

Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the page that opens.
In the keychain list, an item named "System" should be listed. If it isn't, select File ▹ Add Keychain from the menu bar and add the following:
    /Library/Keychains/System.keychain
Now search in Keychain Access for the name of the wireless network (not the name of the router.) Double-click one of the items and check the box labeled Show password in the inspector window. You'll be prompted for your keychain password to confirm. Make a note of the network password. Then delete every "AirPort Network Password" in the search results. Quit Keychain Access.
Go back to the Network preference pane and recreate the Wi-Fi connection with the same settings as before. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.

  • Migration assistant from an XP to MacPro, is there a fix?

When attempting to help my in-laws transfer their information and settings from there old XP machine to their new Mac. Intrying the Migration assistant I found that everything installs propery on the XP machine but the process freezes at the part where the XP machine is supposed to shaw the unique code that the Mac generates.
Some older post I read on this forum say this process doesn't work but some newer posts make it sound as though is does.
Is there a link someone could share for the fix?
I do know that if there is no fix it is all manual and I am OK with that, just more time consuming, esp transfering Outlook mail file and settings.
    Thank you,

Migration Assistant isn't perfect, if it doesn't work, then use a external drive and transfer files manually, format the drive (empty of data) exFAT or FAT to work with both.
You can't transfer programs from a Windows PC to a Mac with OS X, you have to buy OS X versions of Office.
If you have Windows installed on a Mac, you can transfer programs, provided the XP ones run in Windows 7, but they have to be reinstalled with the developers installer, WIn7  is the only version supported in BootCamp.
Virtual machine software can run the Windows XP and Vista with their programs, provided one has a retail version of XP and/or Vista.
