Migration Assistant - Error Connecting to Network of sending MAC to new Mac
So I doing the network Migration Assistant and its keeps giving me a ERROR connecting to Network of sending MAC to new MacBook Air... help...

The local path needs to be written as the "volumes".  It's the Windows equivalent of using a Network Drive letter.  If you have not set up the volume in the Mac Finder you will run into issues.  DW was originally intended to have all files locally on your computer with a different testing server and different web server.  The fact that you have the "d$" name suggests to me that these are Windows servers that are you connecting to.  This article should help you map a drive that reconnects ( http://osxdaily.com/2012/05/04/automatically-connect-to-network-drive-mac-os-x/  ).
As far as the remote, for this DW should be allowing a network address because it is never assumed that the testing server is local on the computer.  This may end up being a bug, but let's see if we can correct one problem at a time.

Migration Assistant: Problems transferring data from PC (XP SP3) to new Mac Pro 2012 - can not get Migration Assistant to work as PC will not display verfify passcode
Hello, I am having problems migrating data from my old PC running XP (SP3) to my new Mac Pro 2012 using the Migration Assistant.
    - I downloaded and installed the Windows Migration Assistant from Apple
    - My Mac recognized PC and displays passcode
    - The sasscode does not show / display on my PC
    - My Mac is then stuck in "authenticating" loop and the PC is stuck "waiting for Mac to connect."
    - Both computers are connected on same network (have connected PC on WIFI and using ethernet to Reuter)
I have looked on support site and only response I saw says to reinstall Windows Migration Assistant (which I have done)
Any ideas?  If cant get this to workare there instructions for manually bring across relevant data eg itunes music and apps, photos, picasa data etc?

Why not turn off the Windows firewall and uninstall any other firewall software you have installed?
If you are using a Norton product uninstall it and discard it. To fully unistall most Norton products you have to go to the Norton website and download a soecial program to completely get rid of it. The normal uninstall feature built into the program will not remove all of it.

  • Migration Assistant Error Some files from ".journal" could not be transferred?

    Hello, world.
A few days ago I replaced my the 97% full 100GB hard drive in my Dad's Core Duo 2.0GHz Macbook Pro with a 500GB but I received an ominous error at the end of the Migration Assistant transfer.  Here are the steps I took:
    1.  Replaced physical drive.
    2.  Booted up from OS X Snow Leopard disc.
    3.  Formatted new drive as OS X Journaled using Disk Utility.
    4.  Installed OS X Snow Leopard on the new drive.
    5.  When prompted by OS X Installation, I selected transfer data from another volume.
    6.  Placed the old drive in an enclosure and connected via USB.
    7.  At this point I let Migration Assistant take over.
It took an hour and a half or more to transfer the data and everything SEEMS fine.  However, at the end I received the following error message from Migration Assistant:
    Errors and Warnings:
    - 2013-11-02 16:15:49 -0400 Some files from ".journal" could not be transferred
    - 2013-11-02 16:15:49 -0400 Some files from ".journal_info_block" could not be transferred
I have searched around but I've been unable to find any information on this.  In other instances of these warnings, people seemed to be pointing the finger at moving from PowerPC macs to Intel Macs but this was Intel-->Intel.
I did find someone suggest one other thing in another thread:
"My reading of those error messages indicates that there's something wrong with the journaling files on the PB. I suggest that you disable and reenable it on the PB"
However, I do not know how to enable or disable journaling without reformatting the drive from scratch as journaled or non-journaled.
    (post found here:  https://discussions.apple.com/message/8675337#8675337)
Question:  Should I be worried and does anyone know specifically what this error indicates?  Is it possible that my dad's old hard drive was NOT formatted for journaling and MA was looking for these journal related files and unable to find them?
Thank you all in advance for your help,
    Nick

What options did you select for Migration Assistant to transfer? For instance, did you select network & computer settings?
"Opt" sounds like the name of a folder, not a file type. On your 13" MacBook, do you have any folder by that name, especially in your home folder?
Also, have you run Disk Utility's *verify disk* check on the MacBook's drive?

I just ran migration assistant, and now I have two accounts on my new iMac...how do I merge my iPhoto libraries? Is there anyway to do it without using an external hard drive?

    Yes there is.
1: Log out and into the account you later want to remove.
2: Open your Pictures folder and look for the iPhoto Library.
3: Right or control click on it, a menu appears and choose the option "Show Package Contents", it's really a folder.
4: Find the folder called "Originals", select it and use the Finder menu to Duplicate it.
5: Move the Copy of Originals to the Desktop. Close the window.
6: From the Finder menu, select Go Computer.
7: A window appears with your boot drive, double click it and on the Users folder inside.
8: Select the OTHER users folder and open the folder called Public, inside is a folder called "DropBox"
9: Drag the Copy of Originals to that DropBox folder, it will copy it.
    10. Log out and into the other account and access the DropBox folder, your files can then be imported into that iPhoto user Library from within the program itself.

  • Using Migration Assistant to move files from old PC laptop to new MacBook Pro that has Windows 8 installed containing Outlook

When using Migration Assistant to move files from old PC laptop to new MacBook Pro, that has Windows 8 installed containing Outlook, will emails, contacts and calendar entries be moved to Outlook on the new MacBook or into Mail, Contacts and Calendar?

I doubt they will. But then I'm not sure as I used a migration program once about 18 years ago and totally FUBARed the system I had at that time and I've never used one again.
For me the reason to have a new system is to start fresh. Installing only program that I now use and manually copying data over from the older system.
Not sure your older version of Outlook, and the outlook mail boxes, are compatible with Office/Outlook for Mac 2011.
A better place to ask this question would be on the MS Office for Mac forums.
Hope it all works out for you.

    The 30" display needs a DUAL-LINK adapter.

Change your settings in Sharing preferences, for one, and remove the server out of the Finder's sidebar. Obviously, this is the result of transfering all your other computer's preferences to your new computer.

  • Migration Assistant Errors

So I'm using Migration Assistant to move from an older Intel dual core Macbook Pro to a new quad core Mac Pro. Both have 10.6.3 OS and all updates. The migration assistant pauses indefinitely and tells me there's a problem after about half an hour and says there might be a problem. After quitting, I see that there's a new user added on the new Mac Pro, but there are red minus signs next to all the folders, ad nothing in them. I'm using a Cat6 cable to connect them.

  • Migration Assistant not connecting

I am setting up a new Mac Mini (running Lion, I presume) and trying to migrate files from an older Mini (running OS 10.5.8) during set up.  I have them connected with an ethernet cable, but the old Mini doesn't "see" the new one and I can't get them to connect.  I've tried it with the airport off (on the old one) and with the airport on, with cable and without.  No luck.  I'm fully updated on all software.  Suggestions?
Let me give another piece of background that might be helpful.  I tried this setup/migration on Friday and I got the computers connected, no problem.  Migration ran for about half an hour, no problem, until it got the to the place where it was "transferring applications".  Then, instead of the time remaining deminishing, it started increasing, going from 4 minutes remaining to about 2.5 hours remaining, before I decided to abort the migration and try again.  I tried again, everything went exactly the same way, though I aborted shortly after the time remaining started to increase again.  I shut everything down.  Returned today and am having this new problem.
Would appreciate any advice you've got.
    Thanks.

Thanks.  I ended up just setting up the new machine and then migrating the files manually.  Not ideal, but it worked fine.  I appreciate the advice and will certainly keep it in mind should I run into this problem in future.
FWIW: I don't think the problem in the original migration problem was with the timer - it only took 40 minutes to migrate all the files from a similarly configured and loaded mini to a new mini that same day (with no time adding to the estimated time remaining).  I waited over 3 hours for the second migration to complete and it never did finish up. Judging from other posts out there, the estimated time addition seems to be a symptom of the larger failure of the migration assistant.

  • Migration Assistant Can't Find Network User

We are trying to migrate an old MAC to a newer MAC over our network. Migration Assistant finds each MAC but it won't find the old User who is a Network User. Any ideas as to why this User is not showing up in Migration Assistant?
    Thanks!

Boot the mini with the Recovery HD, erase it, reinstall Lion, and on first boot, use the Setup Assistant to do the migration. See Pondini's Setup New Mac guide for the details.

  • Macbook Pro: Migration Assistant not connecting to external hard drive? Help!

I've had my hard drive re partitioned today and all my data was dragged onto an external hard drive.
The genius guy said to connect the drive & use migration assistant to transfer everything.
I understand I could drag and drop files but I want everything to be done properly through migration assistant but it won't pick up the external drive , however it's files are accessable through finder. Migration assistant just constantly gives me the message, 'looking for computer'.
Why is this? Could someone help? I'd be really greatful!
    Thanks,

  • HT4796 Migration assistant loses connection during transfer

I am trying to use the migration assistant to transfer my files from a vista pc to my new MacPro.  It gets to a certain point and then loses their connection.  Can someone give me some pointers?

Step one, boot the new MBA into recovery mode (CMD+R on startup), launch Disk Utility, wipe the HD, and restore the OS. On reboot, use the Setup Assistant to do the migration. Details in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.
