Migration assistant has given me 2 profiles with different passwords... annoying!

Migration assistant has made my life more complicated... now I can log into my old profile from my G4 iBook... but not easily open pdf documents... as Adobe not supported it says....
On the New wizzy macbook side, pdfs open at a click in finder. I even ended up emailing form one side to another.
I dont want 2 'profiles' or accounts on this system, just one that works! I'd like access to my useful old programs, & files but the ability to use the best of what the new computer can do to, surely that is possible??? Help... Please

Migration Assistant showing 0.0kb User Profiles

Hi all,
My iMac hard drive recently died, but I have been backing it up to Time Machine to a backup disk, so I'm trying to migrate my user account to my friend's MacBook. However, Migration Assistant keeps displaying these user profiles as having 0.0kb. Why is this? It seems to just hang when I attempt to migrate data. Also, how would I go about migrating just the settings and permissions of the profile, and keeping the rest of the data on the drive?

Multiple profiles with different cache settings

I want to have multiple profiles with different settings for the cache. I'll call them ProfileOne and ProfileTwo for simplicity's sake. ProfileOne I want to clear its cache on exiting Firefox and on ProfileTwo have it retain its own cache. I have already setup both profiles and configured them accordingly with ProfileOne's privacy settings for Clear History > Cache checked so it clears on exit and ProfileTwo is not set to clear anything on exiting.
The main issue is that after doing something with ProfileTwo then switching to ProfileOne, upon exiting ProfileOne it also deletes ProfileTwo's cache. I have tried using the profile manager to create the profile in a different location than default to no avail. Is there any way to set it so ProfileOne's cache can still be cleared on exit without affecting ProfileTwo's cache?

After checking a few different options, it looks like the add-on Better Privacy provides the options I need for LSO management and does separate HTML cookies from Flash cookies nicely and lets me save specific site's LSOs. Thanks for the assistance!

How can we disassociate an Apple ID from a set of computers formated from a single computer using Carbon Copy Cloner and a single image and then Migration Assistant to install their old profile? The original ID is the Apple ID for all the stores.

Here is a bit more detail.
We were replacing old teacher machines and wanted to do it as efficiently as possible. Therefore, we set up one computer, through the OS installation and ran all updates, and then made a disk image so that we can use Carbon Copy Cloner to image all the other computers without having to run all the other updates. Once they were set up to a base level and assigned to a teacher we used Migration Assistant to import all their old files and items. Everything has been fine until recently the computers became aware of needing an update for one or two apps. The machine asks for the original computer's Apple ID for all updates. We have logged out of the apple id and back in with another to test if running the updates will work with that Apple ID and even after a refresh it still asks for the other Apple ID. How can we disassociate the Apple ID from those other computers so that the individual who owns the original is not needed each time there is an update or has to give out their Apple ID password?

There are two parts to this:
1) It may be that you should have an Apple Education Support person helping you with this. If you have enough computers for this to be a problem, you may benefit from a Server, a site license, and an occasional visit from an Education Support Specialist.
2) The brief answer, if you want Individual Apple_IDs to control each computer, is to buy new copies of Mac OS X under those new Apple_IDs and re-download and re-Install. Mac OS X is customized to the Apple_ID before it is downloaded.

Migration assistant has halted at "less than a minute remaining"

Im in the process of transferring my MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Pro.
Since I didn't have a Thunderbolt cable and the ethernet cable is not an option on the new MacBook Pro I have done it wirelessly.
At the start is had 29 hrs to complete…I have been extremely patient until now…this is 2 days into the transfer.
It says it has "less than a minute remaining"…would be great if that were true.
Its been stuck on that now for 3 hrs.
I did note the time remaining kept going up and down during the transfer so I'm hoping this is the case and it will eventually finish.
Any suggestions on what to do if it doesn't change anytime soon?

I had this problem migrating from my iMac; a late 2009 24in FW800 with Mavericks, to a late 2013 27inch Thunderbolt. Migration Assistant hung at "lass than a minute" for over an hour and change... My back up drives had two F800 interfaces and a USB. I was abe to plug an additional drive into one of the remaining available ports on the back of my Time Capsule drive. This woke up the Time Capsule drive and finished the migration installation process.
I beleive the setting "put Hard Drives to sleep when possible" must have been on by default on the unused OS without my awareness. The action of plugging in an additional drive to the remaining port on my Time Capusle back up drive woke the Time Capsule drive up and then in completed almost imediately. Hope this helps and that any future readers have a BAck Up drive with more than one port and an extra device or drive they can plug into in (Daisy Chain Style) to get the Capusle drive to complete. Good luck!

just got my new iMac and want to migrate files from my Windows XP machine using Windows Migration Assistant for Lion. It seemed to install OK on the PC but it will not run. It comes up with an message saying found errors in preparing data. Any ideas?

Migration Assistant may have completed the tranfer. Restart the computer and log in as the user MA migrated the data to and see if your data migrated successfuly.

How do i lock a specific firefox profile with a password?

You can't do that reliably in Firefox.
If you would use an extension then holding down the Shift key to start in Safe Mode is sufficient to bypass the password.
Best is to use a separate Windows user or guest account and protect your Windows account with a password.

You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it. If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.

Can I protect a profile with a password?

Different users of my PC have created 3 different profiles . Can these profiles be protected by 3 different passwords (e.g. while creating a profile) in order to ensure each user can only access his own profile, but not the 2 others?

You can use the Master Password+ add-on ([ https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/master-password]) to make the user enter a password before Firefox starts.
Though primarily intended to enhance the master password options in Firefox, you can set up the master password + add-on to always ask for a password when Firefox starts, and if either cancelled or not entered correctly after a set number of attempts it will exit Firefox.
This protection is quite basic, it does not stop somebody from copying the data files from the protected profile folder into a new profile, allowing them to access contents of the protected profile.

I mistakenly registered my wife's and my iPhone under the same account on the same computer, albeit with different passwords. How do I separate these phones?

This mistake has confused the account somehow and actions done on one phone often have an effect on the other. I took these phones back to the dealer where they were purchased a few months ago, and they were able to correct some of the issues, but we still have problems. The latest is that my wife password would not work on her Apple ID account so she changed it successfully, but a few days later when I tried to update an app on my phone, and in trying to sign in to iTunes, it showed her name instead of mine, and of course, would not accept my password.

I have an iTunes account, but is this where you make these changes? All I see on iTunes is related to music & movies.

I access a personal iPhone and iPad, and a business iPhone with the same Apple ID.
The iPhone's passcode lock feature is completely separate from another iPhone or iOS device.
All apps, all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the Apple ID that was used to download the apps. If some apps were downloaded with one Apple ID and then a new Apple ID is created, in order to download an app update that was installed with the original Apple ID requires using that Apple ID and password.
