Migration Assistant -- stuck at "Inspecting your computer" for more than 3 hours

I am in a process of setting up a new Mac Mini 2011.
I have completed the initial setup. Now I am trying to bring over the profiles & files with Migration Assistant from a Windows 7 system.
On the Mac side, it was able to find my Windows system, but it has been stuck at the "Inspecting Your Computer..."  in "Select items to migrate" screen for more than 3 hours. Is this normal? Should I waiy a biy longer or start over?
TIA

My computers happened the same too. I left the computers for more than 12 hour and did not progress to anything. It only said. "inspecting your computer".

  • How long does it take for the IOS 7.1 to finish updating? My phone has been plugged in to my computer for more than one hour and the status bar only shows about less than 1/4 completed. I have an iphone 5s btw.

Depends on how strong your wifi connection is.
you can try a reset hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release.

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

  • How can I view history on my computer for more than 1 day

one of my computers shows history for today, yesterday and last 7 days. How do I get this setting on this computer

You can custom edit your history settings in the privacy tab from the options window.
In top left click Firefox > Options, click on the privacy tab. Reference the following article which explains how & where to load/use custom history settings, you'll want to scroll down halfway in the article to the History section & then locate where it tells you how to use 'Custom Settings for Firefox History"
    See:

  • How long should migration assistant take to inspect computer for files to transfer

just purchased a mac book pro. I'm attempting to migrate my pc files to the mac. I've successfully installed migration assistant on my pc.
Migration assistant on the mac has been " inspecting your computer" for over 12 hours. Is this normal? I'm hesitant to turn it off in case it will finish eventually

If you mean it's been fifteen minutes and nothing has happened then most likely it's stuck. What are you migrating from and to?

  • Use of same iTune for more than one iPod

I need to find out whether I can use the same itune in one computer for more than one iPod nano and one iPod video?

I looked at the article, but it doesn't help me know how once I have downloaded onto a nano, for example, the itunes knows that the next thing I connect is something different. My son hooked up his 20GB ipod last night after updating his sister's nano and now the itunes thinks his ipod is a nano. How do I get the itunes to recognize his ipod as the 20GB it is?

how can I fix it, i turned off and on, and the message still there help please

If you have a PPC Mac, you can't install Windows unless you are using something like Parallels or a virtual application.  If you are using Boot Camp, eject the disc, reboot and try again.

  • Is Migration Assistant stuck?

I'm migrating one MBP to another MBP wirelessly.  The Apple Tech mentioned I would be able to select folders to migrate, since I didn't want to migrate everything.
However, the new MBP has been sitting on the screen
    Transferring Your Information
    Starting Migration...
For 1/2 hour now.  The older MBP says "Your other Mac is ready".  Both have the blue stripped spinning bar animation going.
Is something wrong with the migration?  Shouldn't it have already displayed the option to select folders?  Will it ever show progress or some indication it isn't stuck?

You have some idea what went wrong on that?
Nope, but since the migration didn't result in anything useful you might as well delete that account and try a different approach:
Leave the external hard disk "clone" connected to the new Mac. Log in to whatever account you created using Setup Assistant. Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups, and create a new User account with a temporary, "throwaway" name and password. Make sure to check the box "Allow user to administer this computer". As usual, don't forget the temporary account's password.
Log out, then log in to the temporary account. Using System Preferences > Users & Groups again, delete the first account you created. Select "Delete the home folder" then the Delete User button. The only account remaining will be the one you're using, which will exist for the sole purpose of migrating your old account.
Close System Preferences and open Migration Assistant - it is in your Utilities folder. Follow the instructions to migrate your previous account from the old MBP.
When it completes, log out and log in to the newly migrated account. Verify its contents are complete and everything works as you expect. Assuming that is successful, you can eventually delete the "throwaway" account you created earlier.

  • Bootcamp Stops on "setup is inspecting your computer hardware configuration"

Just bought a new iMac for my business computer and can't get Windows XP SP2 to load. It stops on "setup is inspecting your computer hardware configuration". I am running BootCamp 3.0.4. It has the 2.5 Ghz i5 processor. I have read other support document say I need Windows 7. I have the same setup on MacBook Pro and it worked fine. I can't use Windows 7. I have programs that require Windows XP. HELP. Please no responses telling me to use Windows 7. I can't!

the 2011s are Sandy Bridge based and your OEM DVD for OS X doesn't have driver support from Apple.
As for windows 7 and legacy apps.... Windows 7 is pretty good at anything other than 16-bit apps, and even has XP mode - or you can try running XP in a VM as a guest OS in Mac OS X.
Your other MBP is 2010 model, no?
I assume Apple would have to develop new driver support and there are a lot of changes in the 2011 MBP. Apple isn't known for backward compatibility. Not when you have Intel graphics, TB, new processor family and SATA3 in there.

  • XP install hangs at "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware..."

XP install hangs at "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration", this is after going through the boot camp steps. Any ideas?! Is this a firmware thing? Thereotically xp install cd should be able to boot just by holding down the "c" key no?
    what I used:
    win xp sp2
    mac os x.4.7
    macbook
What I'm trying to do is get xp running off my external 15gb fw hd. I read on mac os rumours some guy did it successfully!

    Can anyone confirm this?
Maybe someone from the Boot Camp Public Beta Forum, which is where you probably should be discussing this anyway.

  • Which store do you go to, to authorize your computer for itunes!?!?!?!? o.O

Hi... look i am having SO much trouble! I can't figure which store you go to to authorize your computer for itunes purchases! Help please!

As you appear to be in Canada, you would want to log on to the Canadian iTunes Store. Do you already have an iTunes Store account? If you have purchases, I'm guessing you do.
I'm not entirely sure what your actual problem is. Is there a particular error message you're getting? What, exactly, is happening. The more details you give, the better the answers you'll get.
    Best of luck.

  • X230 - Setup Is Preparing Your Computer For First Time Use

    Dear all,
I just received my X230 bought on Ebay and as I first turned on the computer, Windows was frozen and showed "Setup Is Preparing Your Computer For First Time Use" for hours (I guess its a whole day). Since I do not have any recovery media provided, does anyone has alternative solution?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks! It took me a whole day to figure out what happened and I ended up format the whole drive and reinstall the windows. Yes, you are right, X230 is a good machine and acutally I was thinking to puchase X240 since there is kind of back to school program that you can purchase X240 at a deep discount price. After so many bad comments I chose X230 instead for:
    1. Physical Trackpad button (which is extremely important as I ONLY use trackpoint)
    2. 2 ram slots
    3. normal voltage CPU
I am surfing the net with X230 and I am so happy I bought this.
