Migration Assistant stuck at "less then a minute". HELP!

I just got a macbook pro but there seems to be some problems with the migration assistant.
I used ethernet cables to connect my macbook pro to my macbook, and it transfered fine for about 3 hours. Right when I thought I was going to be able to use my macbook pro, it got stuck. It says "transferring files to support application" and below that "less then a minute remaining". What can I do?
PS. I'm running the newest version of leopard on my old macbook.
Thanks in advance.

Ignore the estimate and leave it alone, it can take longer than you imagine but it does complete, eventually.
Ethernet is not particularly fast at this task in my experience.

  • Migration Assistant Stuck at "Less than a minute remaining"

Migrating from old G5 single CPU to dual 2.3 G5. Tiger to Tiger. The dual has a clean install from the setup disk, but no software updates -- I just followed the onscreen instructions regarding when and how to do the migration via Firewire target disk mode.
The migration ran for 2 hours, the minutes counting down just fine, but it stopped with "Less than a minute remaining." There it sits, fans blowing, workday slipping away. Any ideas? Is the migration probably finished? Some lonnnng verification occuring?
    Thanks,
    Paul Otteson

Wait another hour. If it doesn't work, you may have insufficient space to finish the migration, or a bad firewire cable for or interface on the drive in question.
Consider the steps suggested for PowerPC to Intel migration. They are more likely to work:

  • HELP! LOCKED IN LIMBO W/MIGRATION ASSISTANT DATA TRANSFER:  "LESS THAN 1 MINUTE LEFT" FOR 10 HOURS

This has happened before. I'm migrating from one Macbook Pro to another Mac (though it doesn't seem to matter if it's a MBP or other Apple powerbook) and it gets almost to the end of the bar with the blue water line a sliver away from finishing but it stays at "less than one minute remaining" as it finishes up migrating settings. Going on 10 hours now.
Have read other discussions from 2009 to earlier this month w/this issue. Some say it's a Lion OS issue that's been acknowledged as a flaw. Others had the same issue w/Leopard & say to ignore the remaining minute & leave it alone until it finishes which could take a day or more. I'm moving almost 300 GB of data. I've done this before and had same issue and interrupted it. I manually migrated over applications, documents, etc, one by one and it still took overnight just to do some of the data, so this is  not an inordinate amount of time.
If it's going to complete, I'll let it run. If it's not, I'd like to know so I don't waste more time trying... Thanks in advance for assistance w/this conundrum.

I'm not a big fan of migration assistant, because this happens all the time.  I'd give it a few more hours, then say "I give up."
Why didn't you use the Setup Assistant on the target mac using the firewire disk mode?  I don't have absolute evidence, but you rarely see issues with people who use the Setup Assistant with a newly installed OSX (or brand new Mac).

  • Migrating assistant freezes at less than one minute remaining os x lion

Hi I recently got a macbook pro 13" os x lion, i5 2.4Hz. And i'm using migrating assistant to move my files over from a pc (45gb). The process was fine until it reaches nearly the end where it says cleaning up "less than a minute remaining" and it has been stuck there for ages. My laptop which is the source computer for some reason turned off by itself when it gets to the end of the process. I didnt know how it happened because i was unattened. However the mac was still running. Is it normal? Should i wait or start over again?

  • Migration assistant freezes at "Less than a minute remaining"

I am installing Leopard to a new HD on a PPC G5; during install I have chosen to migrate from my PPC G4 running Leopard via FireWire. It goes along for hours and makes steady progress, until it gets to the very end, it stalls at migrating Application Support with the time remaining saying "Less than a minute", which it has been saying for over 7 hours.
This is the second time I have tried this, the first time I had to do a hard reboot because there is no option to quit during migration. When it restarted it went right back to the "Welcome..." intro. I figured I must have done something (don't know what) wrong, so I did a hard reboot from the installation disk, reformatted the drive and tried it again. Same thing... any idea why this may be happening?

since this is clearly not working I suggest you try migrating user settings only (no applications). If that doesn't work either you'll have to migrate by hand.

  • Migration assistant stuck on new 15' MBP. Help!

I've been having a terrible time with the migration assistant. I have a new 15'MBP retina fully loaded. Been trying for days to transfer my old applications, etc from my older 15' MBP. I could not do it through the wifi (tried but it just died after 18 hours). So I hooked up the computers with fw800 (with thunderbolt adapter on the new computer) and that didn't work. Then I backed up my old computer using time machine and am trying to setup new one with that backup but it's been 18 hours and seems yo be stuck. The bar is at the same place it was 8 hours ago. The estimated time went up from 3+ hours to 5 hours, so I guess something is happening even though the bar hasn't moved? I have about 350gb of stuff so I get it could take a while but it's been about 18 hours. What should I do! This is driving me crazy... I need to be up and running for work tomorrow.

  • Migrate Assistant Stuck

    Hi again,
OK, I just ran a clean install and I'm now using Migration Assistant to restore all my files. It's been stuck for almost an hour on Estimated time: 46 minutes on "Transferring files to support applications". I don't know if the progress bar is moving (I just started taking pics), but is this a big deal? Can I just stop the migration assistant and run it again? What comes after "Transferring files to support applications"?
    Thanks,
    Don

All I can do is tell you what I did - YMMV.
Migration Assistant quit on me with a minute to go. I figured it had done most of it's work, so I did a power off and restarted. 10.5 started and this time I told it to not bother importing any data. It then prompted me to set up and account, which I did. Once the login process finished, I logged out and was pleased to discover that all my accounts were there, so I logged in to my main old account, ran it for a while and found that everything seemed to have been moved. I then deleted the account I had to create to finish the install (above).
However, if you had an hour to go, it is highly likely that your data was not moved. In that case you will have to wait for Apple to release an update to Migration Assistant so you can move your accounts from your old area.
Note: I have two OS partitions: One with Tiger (10.4.10) and a clean one for 10.5. I moved accounts from the Tiger partition to the Leopard partition using the Assistant.

  • Time machine restore is stuck at less than a minute.

I'm trying to restore my Mac from a back up HD and it's been stuck at less than a minute for about an hour. How do I fix it? I just got it back from the depot so it's completely fixed, but it won't restore. Help. :(

You can power down the mac by holding the power button down for 10 seconds or until the mac powers off.

  • Yosemite 10.10.3 update stuck on 'less than a minute remaining' for 2 hours encounting?

Yosemite 10.10.3 update stuck on 'less than a minute remaining' for 2 hours encounting?
    Anyone else having this?
Shall I just wait or can i force shut down or anything like that?
    Thanks.

I ended up having to force quit by holding down the power button after waiting 4 hours to see if it would resolve itself an load.
Wouldn't boot up properly, seemed to be stuck on the new apple logo with loading bar below so forced quit again and tried to restore form a time machine back up by holding cmd+R on restart. It said it was unable to do this so restarted again and it eventually started as normal and I was running 10.10.3 although I wasn't sure if the install was done correctly so did complete a restore from a time machine back up.
I think I will wait for another .1 update or just try again at a later date maybe.
    Thanks.

  • Osx Lion reinstall stuck at less than a minute

hhere is the deal. I had to reformat my mid 2012 MacBook Pro after it would freeze up after startup. I reformatted and everything went fine other than the 7 hours it took. I went to reinstall osx lion and it gave me a total time of 12 plus hour. Now it has been stuck at less than a minute for almost an hour. I'm totally nervous that all this time has been wasted for this stupid macbook to just freeze up again. Any suggestions or is this normal??

I've got the exact same problem. My mac started to freeze up at random. This made it impossible to use. After I tried to reinstall everything, by potentially thinking that it might be some vius, or corruption. I've now been trying to reinstall eveything for aprox 6 hours and I'm stuck at 'less than one minute' and been so for around 2 hours.

  • Migration Assistant stuck at 5 minutes remaining

I just purchased a mac mini.
I'm trying to transfer my data over via an external hard drive formatted as a time machine back up.
My old computer is an iMac running Lion 10.7.5.
Brand new Mac mini running latest Yosemite.
Tried to use the migration assistant three times and everytime after about two hours it gets stuck for another two hours on five minutes remaining.  I'm transferring about 200 gigs.
I've called apple care and have tried to no avail to reinstall the OS after resetting the Mac mini to factory settings.
    Any help appreciated.

The time remaining counter in Migration Assistant is wrong. Just let it sit. See Migration Assistant won't finish

This is absurd. I would like to take a minute to thank Apple for making sure that:
Nothing on their own website indicates that a transfer from a 10.5.8 to Lion is currently impossible.
Are you sure you've read everything on this page?
If I can read it right, it says on step 2:
    "Step 2:
Make sure you have the latest version of Snow Leopard."
I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but for me, that means "yon can't install Lion from any other system version than 10.6.8"
I don't think it's fair either. Leopard owners will have to buy 2 systems, but advertised, it definetely was.

  • HT4413 Migration Assistant stuck

I am using Migration Assistant to transfer data from an old MacBook Pro (2007) to a new MacBook Pro (bought yesterday).  Migration Assistant gets hung up and the estimated time to make the transfer is stuck at 16 hrs and 24 min. Am using Firewire for the transfer.

Start over, booting into recovery mode  (CMD+R on restart) and restore the OS. Then, on first boot follow the steps in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.
