Migration Characterset Issue

Hi,
I am involved in a Data Migration project.
The database version I am using is Oracle 10.2.0.5 and the NLS_CHARACTERSET is set to UTF8 on the database.
The requirement is to provide the data extract in Unicode for the new databse.
I have set the NLS_LANG variable to AL32UTF8 on my machine.
For extracting the data from all the tables except one, I did not face any problems.
But for one table, while exporting the data I got the error ORA:29275 and ORA-12703 while trying to convert the strings.
I was able to address this issue by changing the characterset on my machine to UTF8.
My Question is:
1)Will the extract files pulled out in AL32UTF8 characterset pose a problem to the new database(if in UTF8) where the data has to be migrated?
2)I got to know that Oracle UTF8 is not exactly "Unicode" as per the standards, so how do I address the dataset in UTF8 if to be provided in Unicode?
thanks in advance
deb

It would seem this post should have been posted in {forum:id=50}.
1. How exactly are you "extracting the data"?
In general, when using export tool, you should use a client char set that matches the database, as to avoid or delay conversion.
(Oracle character sets UTF8 and AL32UTF8 are not the same.)
But ORA-29275 possibly indicates some problem with source data, so it is best to investigate the issue.
Why does the new database have UTF8 over the current AL32UTF8? The first, UTF8 should be used only when (the very old) client applications require it.
2. Where did you read this?
See Globalization Support guide about Unicode versions and Oracle character sets.

  • Adobe Flash IDE: Migration/Compatibility issues between Adobe Flash Professional CS3 and CS5

    Hi,
Adobe Flash IDE: Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe Flash Professional CS5
I am facing some  migration/compatibility issues between Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe  Flash Professional CS5:
I am working on a project that has  been completely developed in CS3 earlier. When I am using CS5 (Flash Player 9 /  Flash Player 10) to compile the FLA files, it is creating some new issues like  some customized radio buttons are getting disappeared while viewing the SWF on a  web page etc.
So, I would like to  know:
    1) Is there any  migration/compatibility issue between Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe  Flash Professional CS5?
    2) If yes: Is there any patch  available from Adobe for it?
    3) If no: What could be the causes  and the best possible solutions for it?
Any help and support would be highly  appreciated. Many thanks in advance!
    Thanks & Regards

Apparently some people have issues, but I don't think it is across the board.  Here's a link to another recent posting that may or may not prove helpful to you...

  • Characterset issues

    Hello all,
I'm having some persistent characterset issues. I (PHP-, no
Coldfusion programmer) have been working on this site that uses
Mysql 5 and fusebox 3 as framework and a lot of tailormade
coldfusion scripts, but can't get this problem under control. I've
tried specifying iso-8859-1 on all pages using the
    cfprocessingdirective and <cfcontent
    type="text/html;charset=ISO-8859-1"> in application.cfm but no
    result.
I understand that Coldfusion uses UTF-8 by default, so I've
tried getting rid of all ISO-8859-1 statements to see if that would
solve my problems, but again no result.
Fiddled with some database collation and character set
    parameters, but to no avail.
You can see the result of rendering
    'Iñtërnâtiônàlizætiøn'
    here
Weird thing is, when I build my own coldfusion page, with
nothing more that a query, cfoutput and optionally character set,
    it displays
    correctly.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

    > in that case, look to the db and/or db driver.
Well, I've installed coldfusion on a local box and tried to
emulate my webhoster's environment. I first installed that JDBC
driver you mentioned which worked like a charm (even without the
connection string). My webhoster says they use the 'standard'
driver, which I guess is the 'mysql (3.x)' option. I've done some
reading on why you get errors when trying to use this feature with
newer mysql databases (has to do with authentication
incompatibility: you have to do an alter query on the db user and
convert the password using oldpassword('password')) and managed to
make a working DSN using this 'standard' driver and guess what?
The same character set issues appeared. After putting in the
connection string the problems disappeared as you said.
Now the only problem that remains is my webhoster who claims
that they haven't got a connection string parameter in Coldfusion
    Administrator....
Wish I could use my local box that's running perfectly now as
    a webserver!
    Thanks for your help!

  • Many Migrated Account Issues - What to do?

    Hi All
I recently migrated an account from an old G4 iBook running Leopard to a newish MacBook Pro running Lion, and we are noticing lots of minor issues with frequently used application, such s Stickies & Safari, whereby those applications are not remembering their settiings.
For example, Safari will not remember new bookmarks that are added - if we add a new book mark & then quit Safari, the new bookmark is gone when we re-open Safari.
Stickies will forget all the stickies that are created for it everytime, so that each time we open that application it is as though it is the first time it's opened.
We have the above as well as not being able to use that users Drop Box, which I have detailed here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4098234
I gather they must al be related, and I figured a permissions fix via Disk Utility would do the trick, but this has not worked.
Any ideas how to get things running smoothly again?
    Many thanks iin advance,
    Greg

Also forgot to say that items added to iCal will not sync to the users iPhone, although updates made on the iPhone will sync to iCal.
I guess this is the tip of the iceberg & we'll find more issues as we continue using the machine.

  • Backing up my MacBook Pro using Migration Assistant Issues

So a very long story short, I have to get repairs done to my MacBook Pro which was/is operating on 10.5.8. When I left my computer at the store to be sent out, I backed up my computer with Time Machine, under the impression I could just reload everything during start up. Well this didn't work, There was some kind of issue where I would select my drive and it would return to the welcome video every time. So I just set up an Admin because I was given the option of using Migration Assistant. I did so, but it seems that our of 175 GB of applications, information, setting, and files, only 95 GB would get transfered under my old username/Admin user. I went ahead and did it anyway, and it took about an hour before it said a few minuets remaining. Then about a half hour later, it said my information was transfered successfully. What's peculiar now is that a little window appeared in the Finder titled 'Time Machine Backup', and its been loading 107 GB for the past hour. I'm using USB (which I know isn't the fastest method), and it's going abnormally slow, its been roughly an hour and only 2GB have loaded.
My question is this; When all 107GBs of data are transfered, will my repaired laptop have the (for lack of a better term) memory of my laptop before the hard drive wipe?

No idea what is going on & just 2 reasons I never use Time Machine, but are you certain it's not backing up your new Drive & is actually copying from the TM backup to your drive?

  • Oracle 11g Migration performance issue

    Hello,
There a performance issue with Migration from Oracle 10g(10.2.0.5) to Oracle 11g(11.2.0.2).
Its very simple statement hanging for more than a day and later found that query plan is very very bad. Example of the query is given below:
    INSERT INTO TABLE_XYZ
    SELECT F1,F2,F3
    FROM TABLE_AB, TABLE_BC
    WHERE F1=F4;
While looking at cost in Explain plan :
    on 10g --> 62567
    0n 11g --> 9879652356776
    Strange thing is that
Scenario 1: if I issue just query as shown below, will display rows immediately :
    SELECT F1,F2,F3
    FROM TABLE_AB, TABLE_BC
    WHERE F1=F4;
Scenario 2: If I create a table as shown below, will work correctly.
    CREATE TABLE TABLE_XYZ AS
    SELECT F1,F2,F3
    FROM TABLE_AB, TABLE_BC
    WHERE F1=F4;
What could be the issue here with INSERT INTO <TAB> SELECT <COL> FROM <TAB1>?

    Table:

  • Migration Assistant Issues and Tips

So I had to restore my MacBook Pro after it didn't shut down properly and wouldn't start up.
    I'm using Lion, latest patches.
I wanted to share what I've learned in the event someone encounters a similar situation like I did.
I tried searching Communities but I couldn't find much that helped me out.
Operating system wouldn't load at all.
I am using a Time Capsule with Time Machine.
If you are trying to restore from Time Machine (and you had to reload the OS) I suggest reloading it after you've logged in.
When you are prompted to create a user account, do not create one with the same name you used before. Create a
temporary account and call it temp.
Use the temp account to restore only the Users first. Do not select any other options like Applications, Settings and Other Files.
(Doing this can leave you in the dreaded 'Transferring files to support applications' hanging forever state - I figured out what causes this which
    I will explain later)
The restore of Users from Time Machine/Time Capsule was successful for me.
I then re-started my laptop and pressed the 'Option' key during start up to get in to the recovery drive. I am doing this only to access the disk
utility to 'Verify and Repair permissions'. - Which needed to be done as it reported some permissions needed to be fixed.
I then rebooted back into Lion.
I installed EACH section one by one.
I chose not to restore Applications. I have a list of all the programs I've installed - luckily - and I have the original disks so I can re-install them. I think you can restore Applications successfully despite what some people have reported/suggested.
The reason why I restored each item, Users, Applications, Settings, Other FIles, one by one is because I was running into an issue. I was running into an issue when I tried restoring all 4 options mentioned above.
I found out one of the things that causes the 'Transferring files to support application' status message to hang there forever. It would cause Migration Assistant to run and never completely shut down on its own. I opened up Activity Monitor and found that after Migration Tool and Migration Assistant are done their thing, a program called 'SHOVE' runs. And it runs FOREVER. It won't stop. It sucked up my CPU usage too. I also had my Console open and was watching 'All Messages', and I could see that SHOVE was doing something with temp files, but it was never stopping.
--- I believe restoring the option 'Other Files' is what causes the 'Transferring files to support application' hanging. So don't restore that. Or if you really want to restore it, open up activity monitor and watch for the SHOVE process. I co-related it with the Disk Activity tool, once I saw Disk Activity DROP, either flat line or become really low then that's when I Force Quit the SHOVE process.
If you use Activity Monitor to Force Quit the SHOVE process, then Migration Tool and Migration Assistant will finally say that everything has been restored - BUT BUT BUT. It doesn't do so if you tried to restore everything all at once. Even after I rebooted. You MUST restore each item separately.
After I used Activity Monitor to force quit the SHOVE process, I noticed in my Console/All Messages reported that Migration Assistant exited properly.

    Hi,
Hi and welcome to the forums.
What I am trying to do is migrate all of my old stuff, from a hard drive image on an external hard drive (firewire).
How was that made? Is it really an image, or a backup of some sort (Time Machine, CarbonCopyCloner, SuperDuper, the Restore tab of Disk Utility, etc.)?
I get a network error. I have tried migrating whilst still in the boot mode on the OXS DVD
That's via +Setup Assistant+ when it first starts up, per [Using Setup Assistant|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/SetupAsst.html]?
I don't understand why you're getting a network error if you're migrating from a FireWire drive. Are you sure the connections are snug and secure? Have you tried a different FireWire cable?

    Hi,
I am using the SQL Developer version 1.5.0.53 Build MAIN-53.38. I am trying to migrate from sql server database to oracle. Sql server database version is 2005 and oracle database version is 10g (10.1.0.2 and 10.2.0.3). Both Oracle and Sql server databases are on windows-xp.

The error ORA-00600[kghasp1] refers to the problem with heap memory. I also restarted the database and tried the data migration for only this table but with the same error.
    I tried it on both 10g release1 and 10g release 2.
Can someone please help me in resolving this issue.
    Thanks
    Raghavendra

    Hi Raghavendra,
Are you saying the Microsoft SQL Server bcp dump of image data failed? It has been tested, it results in a hex dump rather than a binary dump, hence the clob to blob, and hextoraw workaround.
What are the version numbers and what is the reproducible test case?
    -Turloch
Note that the clob to blob process is automated:
Tools->preferences->Migration->Generation Options->General Options->Generate Stored Procedure for Migrate Blobs Offline
    From Help:
Generate Stored Procedure for Migrate Blobs Offline: Causes a stored procedure named CLOBtoBLOB_sqldeveloper (with execute access granted to public) to be created if the schema contains a BLOB (binary large object); this procedure is automatically called if you perform an offline capture. If this option is not checked, you will need to use the manual workaround described in Populating the Destination Database Using the Data Files. (After the offline capture, you can delete the CLOBtoBLOB_sqldeveloper procedure or remove execute access from public.)

  • SQLs erver migration performance issue

We are performing migration from oracle to MSSQL server 2005 (Windows 2003/SAP 4.6D).Our target system configuration is like below:
    ->OS - Windows 2003 x64
    ->DB - MSSQL server 2005 SP4
    ->SAP - 4.6 D kernel
    ->CPU - 4 processors (2.67ghz each)
    ->RAM - 16 GB
->source system DB size - around 1 TB and package splitting was implemented.
While importing the export dump that came from source system, we are facing load performance issue's.
    1) We have started 10 parallel processes and after import is started, CPU is getting 95% to 99% utilized and when we check SQL server studio-> Activity monitor we  found below information:
-There were around 20 processes are in status sleeping
-Only one or two system processes are running with commands - INSERT,SELECT INTO commands ( column)
-At any point of time only two processes are running and CPU utilization is hitting high.
-Import is very slow and its taking 35 hours to complete
We have followed few SAP notes(1054852,1241751 e.tc..) and below are the settings for SQL server:
-Minimum server memory - 5 GB
    - Maximum server memory - 5 GB
    - index creation memory - 0
    - Maximum memory per query - 1024 kb
    - Maximum degree of parellelism - 1
    - Parallellism locks - 0
    - Cost threshold of parellism - 5
    - Enabled trace flags - 610,620,1117,1211,3917
    - Windows environment variable BCP_BATCH_SIZE = 10000
    - SQL log file size - 100 GB
    - tempdb size - 20 GB
    2) When we tried another test import after tuning parameters (Maximum degree of parellelism to 3) and increasing r3load parallel processes to 20, we found  of inserts
are overflowing in process list and blocking other waiting processes and putting them in suspended mode.CPU utilization is at 80%
Are there any SQL server parameters need to be tuned to fix this import load time issue in both scenarios? Are there any  best practises for migrating to SQL server?
    Thanks..

    > 1) We have started 10 parallel processes and after import is started, CPU is getting 95% to 99% utilized and when we check SQL server studio-> Activity monitor we  found below information:
What processes is using the CPU? The SQL Server itself or others? (see task manager)
    > -Minimum server memory - 5 GB
    > - Maximum server memory - 5 GB
For the time of the migration itself I'd give the database more memory (10 GB or more) and reconfigure later when the import is done.
What parameters do you use for the R3load? I'd recommend
    -loadprocedure fast -merge_bck -c 10000
    and also set
    BCP_LOB=1 in the environment.

  • Migration Assistant Issues?

My G5 iMac was on its way out, so I picked up a new 24" Intel iMac. I was desperate to get it up and running, so I used the migration assistant. I figured there were few PowerPC only apps on my G5, so wasn't too worried.
Overall - no real problems. I was able to replace a couple of the PPC apps with Universal binaries. However, I'm having issues with two things: My system prefs and a Nikon picture sorting app called ViewNX.
The system prefs hang when I use the desktop/screen saver panel. I checked all of the screen savers for the Universal tag and removed those that were PPC, logged out, then logged in. The panel still hangs or updates slowly and eventually hangs. I removed all the screensavers (even the system ones) and no change. The panel also hangs when I navigate through the desktop image choices.
For ViewNX, the app quit upon startup the first or second time I used it, and continued to. I uninstalled and reinstalled many times, deleted all the Nikon app prefs, reinstalled, manually uninstalled - nothing seemed to work. Then I read about another ViewNX user having similar issues - he found the app would work from another account on his mac, but not his own. I found the same thing. And yet another user found that checking the "Use Rosetta" option would allow the app to run. That works for me too, but it's strange because the app is clearly a universal app.
I also repaired my permissions, but no change.
Any suggestions? I'd rather not back up the entire drive and reinstall everything, app by app - as otherwise I don't seem to have any issues.
And yes, I read the migrating to Intel notes on the forum...

I though I removed the entire ViewNX folder from the user application support folder. The uninstaller should have done the same thing - but maybe it didn't. I'll double check that.
Yes, there is an error log in the console, but I couldn't decipher it:

  • Migration Assistant issues, Mavericks

So this has been frustrating. Two MBPs connected by ethernet, both running updated Mavericks. Both have wifi turned off, both have firewalls turned off, both manually assigned IPs on same network (finally got to all of those things being done after only the source machine was not being seen in Migration Assistant). Trying to migrate one user from old machine to new.
Now that I'm here, and both machines are seeing each other, getting a matching code, etc... when I get to the page on the new machine where I select what I want to pull over from the old machine, it only gives me a few options. One being an Applications folder with a listed size of 0 kb, one being computer with 141 kb, and one being other files with 0kb listed. (I'm going off memory as I'm typing this on one of the machines I was trying to do this on.
No ability to select a user, etc. WHAT THE ****?

This worked for me one time, but I had to wipe and re-do my whole system (different issue) and this solution did not work for me the second time. Instead, I had to disable my firewall on the original old mac completely to have my user accounts and other data show up as transferrable into the new mac. After messing around with it and reading a lot of other people's problems with this, I thought I should post my solution for others in case this works for them.

  • Active Directory Migration Tool Issue

    Hi,
I am currently doing a pilot to migrate users from a Windows Server 2003 Forest (2000 FFL, 2003 DFL) into Windows Server 2008 R2 (2008R2 FFL, 2008R2 DFL).
There is an External Trust setup between the 2 forests.
Having successfully migrated some test users and groups from Source to Target domain, I am able to access resources on a file server located in the Source domain (due to SID history being migrated along with SID Filtering being disabled)
My issue is that I want to now use the Security Translation Wizard to add the newly migrated users and groups to the Source File Servers ACLs, Registry etc.
ADMT is installed on a Target DC and when I run the Security Translation wizard it fails and the log shows the below...

Is/was AGPM installed on the server you ran the security translation

  • Migration assistant : issues if transferring from 10.4  to 10.5 computer ?

I am on the process of migrating from my MBP "first gen" onto my new MBP late 2008.
My source MBP has 10.4.11, the new is 10.5. of course. I plan to do this via firewire.
Which problem may I have during migration ?
Any compatibility issue with ITunes, Safari, Mail, office 2008 etc ..?
What will happen to the files and folder that are on my desktop ?
: I need to get the exact same computer content and preferences in any of my applications.
    Thanks for any advice !

If you do an Archive and Install then follow the following procedure. Check the option to preserve users and network preferences. This will transfer your Home folder to the new installation. Your old system will be preserved in the Previous System Folder located at the root of the hard drive.
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Lotus Notes Migration pdf issues

    Hello all,
We are in the middle of a migration from Lotus Notes to Exchange, and we have several users who are saying they cannot open .pdf files on their iPad devices. Are there any known issues with this?
    Thanks.

Yes, this can be automated. However in doing so you're effectively building your own tool which will cost more than buying a pre-built one.
This isn't going to be possible with a SharePoint workflow. First you'll have to read the Lotus notes content, then you'll want to serialise that into a format for import and clean up any links or dead pages. Then you'll have to use the CSOM or REST
APIs to create, populate and publish those pages.
This won't be a quick task.

  • Post Migration Assistant Issues - Library Files That Need To Be Changed/Deleted

Used migration assistant to move from late 2008 unibody to early 2011 unibody (lion to lion).  In iTunes my options under View>>Video Playback my options are all greyed out and I think I need to delete a file from the library to reset (similar to bluetooth issue where I had to delete two files so I could rename devices).  Any ideas on how to resolve this and since this is the second thing that has come up are you aware of any others that I might want to keep an eye out for?

Assuming you have an optical drive in or connected to your MBP, the easiest way to go is to do a backup of your existing iTunes library to DVDs (you may need several) .  In iTunes 9, this is done with selecting File->Library->Back Up to Disc... and following the directions.  I do not see that capability in the current iTunes, though, but if one is using Tiger, one is limited to iTunes 9.
When the discs are burned, mounting any of the discs on the MBP should cause iTunes (you may need to have it up) to ask if you want to import the files.  It goes pretty smoothly, or at least it has for me in Mt. Lion and Win-7.  It's a little involved but it does work.
