Migration cognos to HFM / Hyperion Planning

Hi,
Does anyone know the steps to migrate Cognos cubes to HFM 11/Hyperion Planning 11? I've no idea where to start from other than doing it manually from scratch, like building the outline & loading data.
Can we export metadata & data from Cognos in a format which can be loaded to HFM/planning w/o much tedious manual task?
Please give me suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Hi S.P.,
i read your post. How looks your migration concept from Cognos to OHP 11?
Pls write me a mail [ noahface[at]gmx.de ] or give a post.
Thxs in advance.

  • Hyperion Planning Upgrade from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2

Hyperion Planning Upgrade from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2
So far I have done the following 3 steps:
    1. I have successfully installed and configured Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2 in a new Server. (Windows Server 2008 R2).
    2. I have created a blank classic Planning Application in 11.1.2.2.
    3. I have copied the relational database from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2
Could you please let me know the next steps to perform the upgrade?
Should I use the Migrate Button in the Hyperion Planning Webpage or use the option in the EPM System Configurator "Upgrade existing database to the current release from 11.1.1.3". Please advise.
Note : A native User is the owner of the Planning Application in 11.1.1.3 and hence I made the same in 11.1.2.2 also.
Also, please let me know if I need to migrate the shared services security and convert the HBRs to Calc Manger rules first before upgrading the Planning Application.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks John for your quick response.
Yes, I have performed a clean install and then going for upgrading the existing Planning Application.
The Application owner in both the source and target Applications is a native user named hypadmin (not the default admin user). Do you want me to change the owner to default admin user, or the user hypadmin is ok to go with?
    Please advise.
Also, is there any specific order I need to follow for migrating the below components?
    1. Shared Services Security
    2. HBRs to Calc Manger Rules
    3. Existing Planning Application Upgrade

  • Hyperion Planning migration error while refreshing/creating Essbase cube

    Hi,
I'm migrating a Hyperion Planning application (11.1.1.4) to a complete other environment (due to the split of the companies). I have read most post on otn, but unfortunately nothing that helped me to solve the issue, yet... I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance!
I have executed the following steps:
    1. Create a new Oracle database
    2. Create a datasource to the Oracle database and to Essbase (both tested succesfully)
    3. Create a fresh planning application (I have used a native Admin account and not the original owner)
    4. Go into the database tables for the planning app and look at table HSP_USERS, store the SID value against user 50001
    5. Go into the database planning system tables and HSPSYS_APPLICATION, clear out the version field for the application you have created - I did not do this since I could not delete this value. null is not accepted.
    6. Stop Planning
    7. Restore the planning application database over the one created in the first step (I had to drop the existing tables first)
    8. Go into the HSP_USERS table and update the SID for user id 50001
    9. Start planning
    10. Log on to planning and I did see the webforms, etc as expected.
    11. Now, when I try to refresh the database, I receive an error:
    Cube refresh/create in progress
    Status failed
    Step 4 Adding dimensions
    java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: getAttributeType
Does anyone has an idea? Hope someone can help me since the deadline is getting closer and closer.
    Thanks!
    Kind Regards
    Martin

    Hi John,
    Thanks for your reply.
I have exactly done what you have described. I droped the schema and recreated it with an impdp to import.
But, in the meantime I have been investigating the dimensions and there's indeed something very wrong. Some dimensions have been mixed up. In the 'old' environment I have 10 stored dimensions and 4 attribute dimensions (as well as in EAS as in Planning, offcourse as you expect). In the 'new' environment, two stored dimensions have been mixed up with two attribute dimensions.... How is that possible?
I have never seen that. Could this be caused by the reason that we use a different version of Oracle (11G release 2 vs 10G (10.2.0.4))? Or went something wrong with exporting the schema...? Can you tell me what I can do to investigate this?
    Thanks!
    Kind Regards,

  • Loading HFM data to Hyperion Planning using FDM

    Hi All
Has anyone ever used HFM as a data source for FDM?
Someone has asked me for the best way to get data from HFM into Hyperion Planning and whether FDM can manage that. I know there is a generic Pull adapter and the ERPi but I'm not sure whether either of those will do the job.
At the moment I am assuming that they will need to extract data from HFM to flat file and then import to FDM as a 2 stage process?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Stuart

    Hi Tony
Apologies for the delay (my email spammed the notification that you had replied, helpful!!). When you say that you have done it but discourage accessing the tables directly how did you achieve this? Were you just careful which data intersections your selected from the tables (e.g. always base level data so it is stored not calculated)?
I have used the HFM relational tables a couple of times to make use of the metadata that they contain but not tried to get data before.

    Rahul,
As John pointed out, copyapp may be available between different versions of planning but is not compatible between different versions of the software. When a copyapp command runs, it connects to shared services, planning and essbase data sources and basically performs an export and import of data. It works on the premise that structure for export is same as structure for import. However, the underlying architecture for shared services (moving away from openldap) and planning tables, essbase (security outside .sec file) has changed and there you cannot just export and import between different versions of software.

  • Hyperion Planning business rules migrating to Calc Manager issue

It was suggested I post this in calc manager as well, so I hope cross posting is allowed!
We are trying to migrate from Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2
Our business rules were migrated to Calc Manager by our IT team. The rules run (for the most part).
Our main complaint about this migration is that it excluded our comments inside the business rules and added it's own!
When we first open the rule it is in graphical mode. But on the Script Tab I can see our orignal Business rule, but it's missing comments. Not all comments -- those at the top of the rule are intact, but after it starts getting into the meat of the rule, it loses many, but not all of the comments. When I chose to edit this rule in script mode, then calc manager adds tons if its own comments, making the code very junky to read.
So, multiple questions -- how do we get the migration of business rules to calc manager to stop losing our important comments. Is it possible to get the newly migrated rules to initially open in script mode rather than graphical mode so that it doesn't add it's own comments. Or is there a way to turn off the added commenting?
This is a snippet of our rule in 11.1.1.3:
    FIX ("D0P000 Pushdown")
    "Accrued Salaries and Wages Pushdown" = "BTL Accrued Sal & Wages Total"->"WBS_I19990_PLAN" * (D0P000->"Total Reg Labor" / "LMSS (LRP TEMPLATE LEVEL)"->"Total Reg Labor");
    ENDFIX
/* FIX on account members that should be rolled up in the AGG statement below. */
    FIX (@DESCENDANTS( "Orders"),
This is what it looks like when it comes up in graphical mode in Calc Mgr 11.1.2.2 (note that comment is already missing):
    FIX ("D0P000 Pushdown")
    "Accrued Salaries and Wages Pushdown" = "BTL Accrued Sal & Wages Total"->"WBS_I19990_PLAN" * (D0P000->"Total Reg Labor" / "LMSS (LRP TEMPLATE LEVEL)"->"Total Reg Labor");
    ENDFIX
    FIX (@DESCENDANTS( "Orders"),
This is what it looks like when it switches from graphical to script (bonus comments are added):
    FIX ( /*DIM:Entities*/"D0P000 Pushdown")
    /*STARTCOMPONENT:FORMULA*/
    "Accrued Salaries and Wages Pushdown" = "BTL Accrued Sal & Wages Total"->"WBS_I19990_PLAN" * (D0P000->"Total Reg Labor" / "LMSS (LRP TEMPLATE LEVEL)"->"Total Reg Labor");
    /*ENDCOMPONENT*/ ENDFIX
    FIX ( /*DIM:Accounts*/@DESCENDANTS( "Orders"),
    Thanks for any help.
    Brenda

You might learn to appreciate graphical mode in Calc Manager, we do. It is not like the old Business Rules in EAS. I am an old school calc script person, and have NO love for drag-and-drop coding ... I need control. ;-)
Insert a blank script object and paste your code into the 'Script' tab for that object. Set up your prompts and use the {} notation in your code. All of the comments will stay put ... as long as you DON'T USE EDIT, SCRIPT! We make a fair number of generic, reusable pieces of code and save them as shared scripts. These can be dragged into Rules. Click on the Rule's Begin object and choose the Script tab ... you will see how the bits are assembled into complete calc script. We've even come up with a way to use LOOP ... ENDLOOP as though it were a procedural IF statement so we can control whether or not a chunk of code is active or not.
Shared scripts are especially good for currency translation components since we occasionally add new currencies and want to make a change in one object that is used in dozens of business rules.

  • Hyperion Planning migration from 32-bit to 64-bit windows OS

    Hi All,
Planning is installed on 32-bit VM servers with windows 2003 Standard Edition in our environment and we are having memory issues when running in full load
Trying to understand whether we can move to move to 64-bit where it can help for increase in memory as required beyond 4 GB
Current version of Hyperion is 11.1.1.2 for some of the components(HFM,FDM,Planning,Essbase etc) and 11.1.1.3 for some components (HSS, workspace, FR,etc)
    a) Do we need to re install the Hyperion software after the OS is upgraded with 64-bit?
    b) Does the 32-bit applications created will support on 64-bit installations
    c) Do we have separate softwares for all OEPM components when it comes to 32-bit or 64-bit and not sure whether that difference is present for all components
    or only specific components
It would be of great help if anybody can post some ideas who have come across this situation
    Thanks

You are best having a look at the support matrix to see which products are 32/64bit and on which OS.
If you are looking to run 64bit planning on a windows OS then you are probably looking at 11.1.2
You need to install the software after the OS has been upgraded.
If you are talking about hyperion applications created on a 32bit platform then yes they will work on a 64bit platform.
Depends on the version to whether there are separate 32bit/64bit install files.
To be honest this is quite a detailed subject and I only give a quick overview on here, I recommend you getting in a consultant to discuss your options.
    Cheers

  • Hyperion Planning applications migration

    Hello,
I'm planning to migrate Hyperion Planning applications in 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.1. What are some of the ways to migrate them? I'm thinking just do a backup of the planning sql database in 11.1.1.3 then create a planning application shell in 11.1.2.1 then restore the backup planning sql database in 11.1.1.3 over the planning sql database in 11.1.2.1. I'm not sure if this will work since the database schemas might change between 11.1.1.3 and 11.1.2.1?
    Thanks.

    Hello Friend,
    The procedure is :
    1. Take Backup(export of schema) of existing schema which you want to migrate.
    2. Create a New Schema(in New/Existing Environment if database differ for PROD/NON-PROD)
    3. Restore the Backup Schema to new schema(Import Backup Schema to new one).
    4. Goto "App Wizard"->"Edit Data Source for that Application" and if you are using Oracle as DB(Change the User) else if you are using MS SQL SERVER as DB(change the Database)
NOTE : Change means you have to replace the New database/Schema with existing one
    5. Restart Planning Services
But BR's do not migrated when you do Schema Restore, for that you have to import and export BR's into EAS.
    Thanks,

  • Migration From Hyperion Planning v3.3 to Hyperion Planning v11.1.1.3

    Hi Friends,
Could you please list out steps to follow from migration Hyperion Planning v3.3 to Hyperion Planning v11.1.1.3.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards..
    Sai.

You can use Oracle Lifecycle Management to help migrate to a newer version. Did you mean to say v9.3 to v11.1.1.3?
    Manually you would first create a fresh HP 11.1.1.3 enviornment and application, then export from older version to newer version;
Outline, metadata, members, calc scripts, business rules, forms, reports, ect..... Then you get all of your data loaded, or as much of the data you want or need.
    Consolidate and validate.

  • Steps to migrate Hyperion Planning application from 9.2.0 to new 9.3.1 env

We currently have 9.2.0 Hyperion planning installed in a windows env. We are planning to setup a new Hyperion planning env on a totally new hardware upgraded env. Would be appreciate if some can outline steps invloved to migrate Hyperion Planning apps, forms, BR ect from 9.2.0 to the newly setip 9.3.1 env. Is there any documentation, URL's to do the above. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any issue to look out for, setbacks details would be helpful.
    Thanks..

    Hi,
One way of doing it would be :-
Create a new database for your planning application 9.3.1
Create a datasource to the database
Create a fresh planning application on version 9.3.1 make sure the admin is the same name as your old 9.2 planning app
Go into the database tables for the planning app and look at table HSP_USERS, store the SID value against user 50001
Go into the database planning system tables and HSPSYS_APPLICATION, clear out the version field for the application you have created
    Stop Planning
Restore the 9.2 planning application database over the one created in the first step
Go into the HSP_USERS table and update the SID for user id 50001
    Start planning
Go to planning web and you should see your application when you try and log in it should take you to a migrate screen.
If you are requiring to migrate users as well, you will have to make sure you create them in Shared Services and then use the updateusers utility in the planning bin directory.
Or you could try using the copy app utility though I don't believe it is the best utility about and not sure how it handles between different versions(http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_hp_admin/ch09s01.html)

  • What is the basic difference between Hyperion Planning and HFM

    Hi GURU'S,
what is the basic difference between Hyperion Planning and HFM and when do we choose them.

On a high level the difference is this:
    1. HFM is best for global collection (collecting data from scattered entities), group consolidation and for easily structuring financial reporting (mainly consisting of financial data)
    2. Planning is best for modeling your business, starting from a demand forecast and arriving to capacity planning and finally to financial statements, by utilizing business drivers (non-financial data like volumes, prices, productivity rates etc)
Of course, differences may be analyzed at several levels down to technical, but the discussion may turn out to be too long, yet adding little value to the question: "when do we choose the one over the other". Bear in mind that your requirements may turn out that you need both.

  • How to migrate dimension member text files from ODI to Hyperion Planning

    Hi
We are having an issue with ODI that it was not connecting to planning.
Later with some instructions from oracle, we have tried to set some RMI path in websphere and we tested the RMI connectivity test.
It was successfully connecting to planning.
Then we want to test that ODI is connecting to planning or not.
For this I think if anyone can send the doc relating to dimension member upload thru ODI to hyperion planning using text files, it will be helpful.
Appreciate if anyone can help us on this.
Please communicate to [email protected] for doc sending.
    Thanks
    Rajesh Reddy

Go through His(John's) earlier blogs which very clearly explains how to get connected & keep the ball rolling.
If you're so scared to use the existing connections, you may want to-
    i) Set up new Master & work repository;
    ii) Do few quick configurations from Topology Manager;
    iii) Create your project, models, Interface;
Let us know if something isn't still clear.

  • Oracle Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.1. hungs Essbase 11.1.2.1.

    Hi All,
When end user executing the Calc Manager rule through planning web against our application UPSTPLAN, calc manager rule is getting completed successfully but hangs Essbase application which inturn hangs entire Essbase server.
Sometimes Essbase server is getting hung, while refreshing security from Planning against UPSTPLAN or GA_Plan application.
We recently migrated all of our Hyperion applications from 11.1.1.1.3.1 to 11.1.1.2.1 on new servers.
If anyone came across the same issue.
    Thanks,
    Sridhar.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
Once Essbase got hung, it is not making any entry in the log file.
So we are not able to identify any significant information from log file.
We need to restart OPMN Essbase services to fix Essbase hung issue.
    Sridhar.

  • Use ODI to Extract Data from Hyperion Planning & Budgeting report to Excel

    Hello
Can someone tell me please how to Extract Data from (Financial Reporting in) Hyperion Planning & Budgeting into Excel Using ODI?
Would the steps be the same as Creating an ODI Project and Interface: Exporting a Flat File to a Flat File? If not, why?
    Best Regards.

Where do you think the financial reports get their data from? Financial Reports pull data from data sources such as Essbase, HFM.
