  • Essbase studio application migration

    Hi,
We need to migrate Essbase studio model in 11.1.1.3. When I tried tofind options I cannot find export/import options. Also right clicked on the the folder and not able to see any options for export, import, copy etc.
    How do we migrate this?
    Thank you
    Raj

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Your reply helped me to get some insgits. Then how the incremental migration happens. Does it mean we need to update manually? If a new model is created for new application and you know that schema copy is not possible. Does it mean that, we need to migrate the new model by manually creating all artifacts of Essbase studio?
    Thank you

  • Essbase Studio - Import Catalog using an automatic process

    Hello,
I'd like to make the process of importing Essbase Studio catalog more automatic in the customer environment. Instead of having to open Essbase Studio application every time I want to deploy a new version of the catalog ( either full or partial ), is there any way to export/import the catalog using a unix shell script or DOS command ?
    Thanks in advance
    Victor

I think the options will be quite limited for automating migrations until 11.1.2.3 where LCM supports Studio.

  • How to export level0 data in COLUMNAR form from an ESSBASE ASO application?

    Hello,
I am in the need to export the level0 data from as 11.1.1.3 Essbase ASO application in COLUMNAR form.
please note that the size of the db is 6GB and report script failed.
Is it possible? please sugesst a way.
    thanks,
    Ankit

y dont you use report script
few tips to for build report script when you have huge data
    1. Decrease the amount of Dynamic Calcs in your outline. If you have to, make it dynamic calc and store.
    2. Use the <Sparse command at the beginning of the report script.
    3. Use the <Column command for the dense dimensions instead of using the Page command. The order of the dense dimensions in the Column command should
be the same as the order of the dense dimension in the outline. (Ex. <Column (D1, D2)).
    4. Use the <Row command for the sparse dimensions. The order of the sparse dimensions in the Row command should be in the opposite order of the sparse
dimension in the outline. (Ex. <Row (S3, S2, S1)). This is commonly called sparse bottom up method.
    5. If the user does not want to use the <Column command for the dense dimensions, then the dense dimensions should be placed at the end of the <Row command.
    (Ex. <Row (S3, S2, S1, D1, D2)).
    6. Do not use the Page command, use the Column command instead.
    this will work trust me

  • Easiest to migrate MS Acess application to Oracle forms/reports

    Hi,
I have one application in MS Acess I want to migrate it to Oracle forms 10g, is there any easy way to do this job starting from schema creation upto front end.
    Thanks and Regards, Khawar.

I had a access database solution, but no forms in it, so maybe that was different from yours. The solution I used was:
Made a button in an access form, and from that buttons event:
1: Queried all TableDefs of the database
2: Queried all Columns of each table
3: Made Create-scripts for those objects (of course substituted the datatypes to an oracle equalient)
4: Run those create scripts against the OraDB
That took approx ½-1 hour of coding, but it was faster than creating all the objects from scratch.
I saw some Non-free software that promised to do this for me, but I don't think any software can convert an Access form to an Oracle Form (if that's what you seek).
One I found at: http://www.hxtt.com/access2oracle.html (still I think it's only the tables you can migrate)

  • Essbase Studio Migration 11.1.3

I am trying to migrate existing EIS catalog to Essbase studio 11.1.3.
Its wired that Essbase studio is only recongnizing User DSN when compared to System DSN for EIS Catalog DSN
Essbase/EIS/Essbase Studio are installed on the same box.
Using SQl Native Client 2005 for ODBC connceiton.
have to create File DSN for Studio migration.
Is any body else facing similar issue, does Studio treats User DSN diff to System DSN, just curio's , any insight will be appreciated.
Edited by: MeHyper on Apr 16, 2010 3:31 PM

    Hi,
I have no issues with essbase studio using an ODBC system DSN, in essbase studio under EIS migration I can just enter the EIS ODBC System DSN and it will retrieve all the models.
Any chance you using 64bit windows and are not using the correct ODBC administrator (32bit against 64bit)

  • Essbase Studio Cube Migration

    Hi All,
We have a requirement where we want to migrate our Essbase Studio Cube from one environment to another. We want to migrate the entire catalog/models/cube/data.
Can anyone mention the correct sequence to follow.
    (Version: 11.1.1.3)
I was trying to search this in forum; I found that the cubes can be migrated via LCM while the catalog migration is difficult.
    Also please verify my understanding:
    1. LCM cannot be used for Studio v11.1.1.3.
    2. The catalog export/import option is not available for v11.1.1.3. It was introduced for v11.1.2.
Any response will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

LCM still does not support studio in 11.1.2.2
11.1.2.0 Studio New Features - "In this release, you can replicate the Essbase Studio catalog database among different machines for various administrative purposes, such as making catalog backups, restoring the catalog, and moving the catalog from one machine to another. Essbase Studio now provides an option to export the catalog into an XML file. This file can then be imported to a new location or a different machine to recreate the catalog. You can selectively copy some catalog objects, export to an XML file, and then recreate these objects in a new location or on a different machine."

  • Essbase Studio Console - Cannot migrate existing 9.3.1 Catalog file to 11.1

    Hi
I have been using Essbase 9.3.1 wanted to migrate to Essbase Studio (11.1.1). I tried to use EIS Catalog Migration tool for migrating 9.3.1 catalog files to Essbase 11.1.1, but unfortunately the "Migrate" button in the "EIS catalog Migration" dialog is disabled (although I fetched the models). Does anybody know why the Migrate button is disabled? So, I gave up migrating existing models and created brand new Minischema, Cube Schema and Essbase model from scrach. I am following the Essbase Studio User Guide. When I was creating Essbase model, I had to create Hierarchies for all dimensions because the model accepted only Measures/Measure Hierarchies and Hierarchies. Is this correct?
Also, I want to add attribute dimensions? Since I only have hierarchies, the selecting member as Attributes instruction doesn't make any sense. Can anybody help please?
    Regards
    Chandra

The method you have given is definitely the best one, just treat it like a business rule migration from one server to another.
    Cheers

  • How to set alias using Essbase Studio?

I have read through P113-P118 "Oracle Essbase Studio User Guide" about the how to set up alias. It seems easy t create the Alias Set according to the document.
I want to set 100-10 alias as "Cola", the information comes from the TBC relational database. The product table in RLDB has field SKU and SKU_Alias columns, the value of SKU is: 100-10,100-20, etc.
    My binding is:
    Source: SKU
    connection : TBC::TBC.Product.SKU_ALIAS
This is using the grammer in page 115
    connection :
    \'<logical_source_name'::'<physical_data_source_name>.<physical_tabl
    e_name>'.'<physical_column_name>'
But after I deployed the cube, I cannot see the product alias name as expected from EAS? I tried 100 times, but cannot find what's wrong with me. Please advise, thanks!
My question: How to set up or associate the alias set with the product items from Essbase Studio so that I can see it from EAS? thanks! Bob
    Edited by: user2571802 on Jan 10, 2010 9:38 PM

First it may be useful to convert the EIS TBC model to Studio, to do this you would have to configure EIS and create the TBC sample application.
Once it has been created in Studio you can go to Tools > EIS Catalog migration and migrate the TBC app from EIS to Studio.
If you use this method all the aliases etc will be already set up so you can see how it is done.
To set up Aliases you would go to
Tools > "Alias set Manager" > Create a new alias say "Default" and add a binding e.g. PRODUCTDIM.SKU to PRODUCTDIM.SKUALIAS
Then on your Model right click "Essbase Properties" > Alias tab > Select the Default alias table and move to the selected tables window.
This should of then assigned the default table, if you check the properties of say PRODUCTDIM.SKU in the alias tab Default and the mapping should be shown.

  • Migraton from EIS to Essbase Studio

    Hi All,
We try to migrate the existing EIS (32 bits setup) into Essbase Studio (64 bits) environment.
The old EIS and SQL2000 are both installed on separate servers.
In the new environment we have a seperate server for Studio and SQL2008.
How to use the migration function ?
I have create an ODBC on the Studio-server with a connection to the SQL2000 server.
When I start the EIS catalog Migration, fill in the EIS Catalog ODCC DSN with the just created ODBC-name.
Then press the Fetch Models button and the message: No models could be fetched for the catalog etc.
What's going wrong. Your reaction is much appriciated !!
    Regards,
    Ed

    Thanks Glenn,
that gives me a better approach for my solution.
As metadata/data loading to the Planning application (workforce) will be part of an integration process we could then:
    1. Load new Metadata to the Planning application
    2. Refresh the planning databases
    3. Run a MAXL Script to redeploy the Essbase-Studio cube (which is actually the Planning cube)
    4. Load aggregated data to Essbase cube
    5. Load detailed data to relational table in Essbase Studio.
now the cube is deployed with Essbase Studio so drill through should work as expected.
The integration process will be created in ODI so ODi will be responsible of loading metadata and data, and also executing the MAXL script for cube re-deployment
Do you think we are missing something in the macro steps above?

  • EPMA Essbase Studio Drill-through

If I deploy a Planning application via EPMA is it possible to configure drill-through from Planning via Essbase Studio?
    Thanks,
    Jz

The drill-through path from Planning is from a web-form to FDM.
Can this hack drill through from a Planning web-form or would I need to created reports in Planning to drill-through?
The Studio documentation only talks about Reports...
    Thanks,
    Jz

  • Error in deploying the cubes in Essbase Studio

I am getting below error when I try to depoly ASO cubes in Essbase Studio.
    ***Failed to deploy Essbase cube***
***Caused By: Error when retrieving data from SQL source***
***Caused By: Error when retrieving data from SQL source***
***Caused By: [Hyperion][DB2 JDBC Driver]SQLDIAGGRP was specified and not null.***
I also checked the error log generated in the applications asking to increase the NETDELAY and NETRETRY COUNTS in ESSBASE.CFG, the config file. I made those changes, restarted the services and deployed again but in vain.

There have been a number of MaxL bugs with encryption that produce 'Parse error near...' messages. If you login to Oracle Support and search the Knowledge Base on 'Parse error near' you will find them. I can't see anything specifically relating to 11.1.2.1 or a known defect in the release notes... ...I'd get a support ticket raised, if you haven't already.
You don't mention platform, but I've also run into a bug running 'deploy' in 11.1.2.1 on a 64-bit Windows environment and there was a Unix bug too, but they both caused crashes so probably aren't your problem.

  • Essbase studio 11.1.2.1 problem

First of all hello to all and please please help. I'm in the on-site poc engagement where we successfully loaded customer's hierarchies using essbase studio but we cannot somehow make it working with loading data.
    Few details:
fact table is very large, around 16 M records and is based on Oracle DB.
The message I'm getting after launching only load task says:
Cannot join following sets of tables: 1. [connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.KREDYTY']
    2. [connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.DORADCA', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.KAT_RYZYKA', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.ORGANIZACJA', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.OBSZAR', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.TYP_KRED', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.TYP_PROD', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.KANAL', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.TYP_RACH', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.POC_PARMPF_AGR', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.TERMIN', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.LINIA', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.PODMIOT', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.SALDA', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.TYP_OPROC', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.DEPOZYTY', connection : \'pko'::'POC_A.WALUTA'].
I don't understand that as I did created joins between fact table and dimension tables.

If I understand it correctly essbase studio doesn't allow to deploy app that is already there but the question is why it want to deploy when I select only load data task ?
Also, can somebody tell me why I cannot setup custom sql ?
I'd really appreciate your help as we can win million + deal
    Thanks!!!!

I hear that there is a really good book available now on Studio (http://www.amazon.com/Look-Smarter-Than-Essbase-Studio/dp/1458362434/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336684325&sr=8-1), you may want to see if that helps. Hopefully the very reasonable cost can be viewed as a good investment for that million + deal.

  • Essbase Studio Performance Issue : Data load into BSO cube

    Hello,
Having succesfully built my outline by member loading through Essbase Studio, I have tried to load data into my application again with Studio. However I was never able to complete the data load because it is taking forever. Each time I tried to work with Studio in streaming mode (hoping to increase the query speed), the load gets terminated due to the following error : Socket read timed out.
In the Studio properties file, I typed in, oracle.jdbc.ReadTimeout=1000000000, but the result has not changed. Even if it did work out, I am also not sure the streaming mode is gonna provide a much faster alternative to working in non-streaming mode. What I'd like to know is, which Essbase settings I can change (either in Essbase or Studio server) in order to speed up my data load. I am loading into a Block Storage database with 3 Dense, 8 Sparse and 2 attribute dimensions. I filtered some dimensions and tried to load data to see exactly how long it takes to create a certain number of blocks. With ODBC setting in Essbase Studio, it took me 2.15 hours to load data into my application where only 153 blocks were created with the block size of 24B. Assuming that in my real application the number of Blocks created are going to be at least 1000 times more than this , I need to make some changes in settings. I am transferring the data from Oracle Database, with 5 tables joined to a fact table (view) from the same data source. All the cache settings in Essbase are in default mode. Would changing cache settings, buffer size or multiple threads help to increase the performance? Or what would you suggest that I should do?
    Thank you very much.

    Hello user13695196 ,
(sorry I no longer remember my system number here)
Before it comes to any optimisation attemps in the essbase (also Studio) environment you should definitily make clear that your source data query performs well at the oracle db.
    I would recommand:
    1. to create in your db source schema a View from your sql statement (these behind your data load rule)
    2. query against this view with any GUI (Sql Developer, TOAD etc.) to fetch all rows and measure the time it takes to complete. Also count the effected (returned) number of rows for your information and for future comparing of results.
If your query runs longer then you think is acceptable then
    a) check DB statistiks,
    b) check and/or consider creating indexes
    c) if you are unsure then kindliy ask your DBA for help. Usually they can help you very fast.
(Don't be shy - a DBa is a human being like you and me :-) )
Only when your sql runs fast (enough for you; or your DBA says is the best you can achieve) at the database move your effort over to essbase.
    One hint in addition:
We had often problems when using views for dataload (not only performance but rather other strange behavior) . Thats the reaons why I like more directly to set up on (persistence) tables.
Just to keep in mind: If nothing helps create a table from your view and then query your data from this table for your essbase data load. Normaly however this should be your last option.
