Migration exchange

I know OCS has a utility to do one time migration from MS exchange into OCS. We are running a pilot project where we would like to synchronize the email from OCS and MS Exchange for six months. How do migrate emails from MS Exchange to OCS on a real-time basis?

Hi there,
I have the OCS R1 and Exchange 5.5 running at my office and would like to migrate to Exchange 2000. I'd like to know if there is any problem to use the Exchange2000 and if this version will turn easier the OCS migration to the R2.
Thanks in advance,
Kleuber

Is Exchange 2013 server added in the firewall rule to send communication over port 25?
Do you have use Front end proxy checkbox checked on the Send connector to internet that was created on 2013 (if created)?
If use front end proxy checkbox is checked, then you need to add permissions for your CAS server's IP in the Firewall for outbound port 25 rule. As it appears that the mail is originating from CAS to the firewall. If that checkbox is not checked, we need
to add the Mailbox server's IP on the outbound rule for port 25.

  • Migration; Exchange 2003 SP2 to Exchange 2013 on new Domain and DC

I wasn't prepared for this task, and it was thrown at me to do...  Eyes are bleeding from planning reading and planning, would LOVE any input from you guys.  First time posting, here and have heard great things about these forums.  The Company
I work for obtained a new client and a network that is in a cluster at the moment, so I'm having to dig through everything and restructure..
    Scenario:
    Old Domain/Server: (To be decommissioned)
Server 2003 Standard SP2 (Domain: cosco.com; NETBIOS name: coscoex)
    Exchange 2003 SP2 (6.5.7638.1)
Server is a domain controller and exchange server.
    Migrating to:
Server 2012 R2 Datacenter (New Domain ad.cosco.com; NETBIOS name: cosco)
    VM #1: Server 2012 R2 Domain Controller at 2012 R2 Functionality
VM #2: Server 2012 R2 with Exchange 2013 Standard (Not Yet Installed) Joined to ad.cosco.com domain
VM #3: Server 2012 R2 with Exchange 2010 (Not Yet Installed) joined to ad.cosco.com domain
These are probably not ideal conditions, but I have to work with what I'm given.
Host server (2012 R2) is in work group mode.  Hyper V Installed with a VM of Server 2012 R2 and as a DC at a functionality level of Server 2012 R2.  I had intended starting at a lower functionality level and raising
it later, but.... ya I forgot to change it.  If needed I can spool up a new DC with a lower functional level.
DNS, AD and group policy is all jacked up on the 2003 DC so that doesn't matter, All user accounts are going to be created under the new domain.  The concern is migrating the mailboxes from Exchange 2003 on the old domain to
Exchange 2013 on the new domain.  The client is going to provide CSV of the AD accounts that are still valid (a lot of accounts are no longer used or are from people that no longer with the organization.)
I had some ideas, but I'm not sure if they will work.  This is something I have never done before (Senior Engineer Quit).
    My thoughts:
    - Establish a two way trust relationship between the two domains.
    - Create two VM's, one with Exchange 2010 and one with Exchange 2013 (They have a 2010 licence that was not used).
    - Create the users on the new domain
    - Use the double hop method from Exchange 2003 > Exchange 2010 > Exchange 2013
    - Link Exchange accounts to the correct user accounts on the new DC.
Can this be done cleanly? Am I going about this the correct way?  Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated.
Note: We are forced to use ad.cosco.com (Obviously not the actual domain name)

    Hi,
Base on my experience, your idea is feasible.
However, before getting started, you should note that Exchange 2010 (with any service pack or update rollups) is not (yet) supported to install on Windows 2012 R2. More details refer to the following link:

After all the preparations complete, you can refer to the following articles to migration exchange 2003 to 2010, then to 2013:

  • Cross forest migration Exchange 2010 SP2 to Exchange 2010 SP2

    Hi,
We are planning cross forest migration Exchange 2010 SP2 to Exchange 2010 SP2.
Requesting you to please help us out for below scenario.
    Source Exchange 2010 SP2:- abc.com
    2AD, 2CAS & 2 MBX servers
    Database:- 4
    Total Users :- 3500
    Accepted Domains :- 8
    Total Data:- 5TB +
    Target Exchange 2010 SP2:- xyz.com
    Resource allocated same as above.
Now we have to migrate users along with data to target forest xyz.com keeping both setup live, as moving 5TB + data will be a ongoing process and the same will take some time.
    With the guidelines mentioned in
http://careexchange.in/cross-forest-migration-guide-exchange-2010-to-exchange-2010/#comment-14203 we are able to migrate test users along with data, but after migration the migrated user is not able to connect through MS Outlook even not able to login into
OWA. It gives error “The Outlook Web App address
    https://mail.abc.com/owa is out of date.”
Kindly let us know how to solve this issue.
Kindly let me know if you want any more information from our end.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks and Regards, Shashank Kudi

    Hi Shashank,
Do you have certificates properly installed and configured in the target Exchange?
If not, Please configure certificate and import the certificate to the trusted root CA if you are using internal CA cert.
    Thanks, MAS

  • HT4796 Is it possible to migrate Exchanger Server mailboxes to an apple enviornment?

I would like to find out if it's possible to migrate Exchange 2007 Server Mailboxes to an Apple Environment. If the answer is yes, does anybody knows how this can be achieved? What tools and methods will be used and are there any requirements in terms of H/W, S/W, O/S, etc...

You could connect your old MacBook to your TV with an adapter cable and play directly from it as well as stream from shared libraries. Depending on how old your MacBook is, however, you may need to use a separate cable for audio and the video quality may not be as good as with an ATV.

  • Migrate exchange 2003 to exchange online from EAC.

    Hi,
I have to migrate my local exchange 2003 to my new exchange online from office365.
I have to make a Cuteover migrate (complete migrate .... sorry for my english). I understand i have to use a batch to import my on-premise exchange to exchange 365. My question is : does the batch do a "cut-paste" or a "copy-paste" of
my local data to online data ? do i will lost all local user mailbox data(mail contact calendar) ?
    Thanks you
    Julien

Hi, first of all let me tell that the process from the ECP will create a single batch job for cutover migration, secondly, the process will consist of migrating Exchange mailboxes, contacts and Distribution Groups but the source content will remain as is
    not a cut/paste operation.
If you want more info about the process I recommend you to read the following:

  • Migrate Exchange 2003 Public folders and OAB to Office365?

    Hi guys,
I am trying to migrate exchange 2003 public folders to office 365. I have read various documentation however they were either out of date or half-solutions.
The company stored OAB's in each public folder as well, how do I go about migrating these lists into office 365? Will it just "work" if I migrate the public folders across?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hi,
If you are migrating from inhouse 2003 to office 365, then the best options for you are-
    1. Either you can go for the manaul process. You can create PST files and can upload them to mailboxes through office 365 account.
Kindly refer the below mentioned link for the same
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/archive/2013/05/31/step-by-step-migration-of-exchange-2003-server-to-office-365.aspx
    2. Or you can go for any 3rd party tool using the same you can migrate your public folders to office 365. This is required when you need to avoid the risks associated and need to keep your environment up and running even while migration process. Respond
back for third party tool suggestions.

  • Migrate Exchange 2010 public folders cross forests

    Hi,
Due to some Exchange and Active Directory issues (with remnants of old Ex 2003 server), we are going to migrate Exchange 2010 Mailboxes and public folders to a new Exchange 2010 Sp3 server, which is created in a new AD forest.
One thing we still have to decide, which is how to migrate public folders.
    Apparently there are 2 ways:
    1. To export PF data to PST and then import using Outlook in destination Exchange server
    2. To use interorg replication tool to replicate PFs cross forest in target Exchange Server.
I would really appreciate if someone suggests which one is best. We have around 100GB of PF data.
Also, should we migrate Public Folders first? We think that we should move Mailboxes first.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Regards, David Johnson

    Hi,
Yes, when we decide to migrate from one Exchange server to another server, we need to move mailbox first.
About migrating public folders, both of these two solutions are available, I think that the first one is simpler.
Here is a similar thread for your reference.

  • Migrate Exchange 2003 to Office 365

    Dear all,
We are going to migrate Exchange 2003 to Office 365. Because of the large number of mailboxes and mail databases, we decide to build hybrid to support coexistence during the migration period.
According to "Exchange Server Deployment Assistant" I found that we can build more Exchange 2010 for that requirement
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/exdeploy2013/Checklist?state=2419-W-BwAIAAAAQAAAAAEAiFIAAAA~
I just wonder that after deploying the Exchange 2010, can we move directly the mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Office 365 or we need to move to Exchange 2010 first (as a "buffer") before moving to Office 365
    Thanks a lot !!!

    Hello,
The main goal of a staged migration is to migrate Exchange on-premises servers when:
    1. You have more than 2000 mailboxes.
    2. You plan to migrate over a few weeks and months rather than in a single batch.
    3. You want to migrate to the Cloud completely and remove your on-premises Exchange deployment.
Hybrid scenarios are useful when you do not want to remove your on-premises deployment. In some cases there is no technical possibility, it is not cost-effective etc. to move a whole organization to Office 365. In these situations you may decide that moving
only some mailboxes to Office 365 is a good option and create a hybrid deployment.
You need to consider all pros and cons, especially when Exchange 2003 has gone out of support lifecycle and then choose the better option for your organization.
    Hope it helps,

  • Migrate exchange 2007 mailboxes to exchange 2013

    Hi Guys,
im trying to move exchange 2007 mailboxes to 2013. to cut to the chase, is this possible because im getting different kinds of errors?
Please advise if this is possible and how to do it.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Below link also will help you
    Microsoft Exchange Server Deployment Assistant
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dn756393.aspx
Before migrating exchange server, Make a plan
try to practcice on lab. " Production environment and practice lab is entire different"
I dont know your environment. Hope your Domain controller and Exchange environment is residing in same place. If it is different site, move FSMO roles to that site for installing purpose.
IT is really challenge and excitement .
Try to find the solution of client outlook connectivity,
I had this problem, after I install Cumulative update, this problem gone.
Login ECP console after install exchange server,
     Certificate installation,
    DNS pointing, port forward,
    Apply auto discover.
I faced another issue as well during the installation. My ex admin upgraded exchange server 2003 to 2007. He may not uninstall exchange server 2003 properly. Exchange server
2003 record was in active directory. Exchange 2013 doesnt suport mixed version of exchange 2003 and 2013. I have to delete the Exchange server 2003 record under DNS and Adsiedit. After that only exchange server 2013 allow to continue to install.
Best of Luck " Nothing is impossible"

  • Migrate Exchange 2003-2013 and AD 2000-2012

We are in the process of migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2013. We currently have 4 Domain Controllers in Windows Server 2000. Two of them host also Exchange Server 2003 in an A-P mode configuration.
The double hop migration to 2010 was not possible as it requiered a minimal functional level of Windows Server 2003. This lead us to consider the double hop migration to 2007 first, even though it is not the recomended path. We have more
than 400 mailboxes with a size than often passes 1TB.
Is this scenario possible and may be the risks? Do you think using a third party tool to pass data to Exchange 2013 would be a safer solution?
    Looking forward to your ideas.
    Thank you,
    Megi

    Hi,
As far as I know, same with the Exchange server migration, we cannot also directly migrate AD 2000 to AD 2012. Thus, I recommend you directly upgrade to AD 2008 and then migrate Exchange 2003 to 2007 to 2013.

  • Migrate Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, Need to defined win 7 users logon to Exchange 2010 & Win 8.1 users logon to Exchange 2013

    Hi,
My organization have few win 7 and windows 8.1 clients. Now I want to migrate exchange server 2010 to 2013. And I don't want to remove exchange 2010 from the organization. Because I want to connect win 7 client through exchange 2010 and windows 8.1 user
connect to exchange 2013. Is there any way to define the win 7 users to connect to exchange 2010 and Windows 8.1 users to connect to exchange 2013?
    Md. Ramin Hossain

The client connections are proxied to the mailbox servers that hold the mailbox.
You would need to have 2010 MBX servers with the mailboxes for the XP users, and 2013 MBX servers holding the mailboxes for the 7 users. And of course, the appropriate CAS servers.
Realistically, you need to migrate away from Windows XP. It is no longer supported.

I should add that the source server's AD configuration might not be perfect due to this being the second attempt at a SBS 2011 migration install.
I'd be grateful for any help I can get on this as SBS migration has been plauged with multiple setbacks already. I really need to get this done! ;)
    Thanks,
    Voon

Thank you Larry and Al for your replies.
    I used the 'official' migration
    guide plus this page (http://www.techieshelp.com/step-by-step-guide-to-migrating-to-sbs-2011/)
as my migration references. The SBS migration prep tool gave no errors on the source server when I ran it.
I have a full system drive image plus a a system state backup from before migration. Though I am very loathed to rollback the migration and attempt a new one - again. I will do some searching to see if I can resolve the Exchange server problem and continue
the migration/installation. If not, then its a system state restore for me. One of Al's links had a resource for doing a thorough check of AD - which something I'd run if I have to another migration attempt.
I am also really tempted to open up a paid MS support ticket for them to help me fix this problem. :)

  • Powershell command to migrate Exchange 2007 mailbox databases with a legacy name, & import them into a new 2007 instance, with a new name.

Hi All. I am currently at the later stage of provisioning a new CCR Exchange 2007 migration (to
virtualise old Exchange 2007 hardware) for 5,000 users & have a quick question.
I have created around 15 newly named storage groups, & have named 1 new DB per group, with the same name (let's say New-DB-1), residing within them.  The problem I have, is the old legacy DB's have different names (let's say Old-DB-1) & I need
to import them into the new storage groups, to match the new names. So far I can import/export between old & new OK if both old & new DB names\folders etc. names marry up perfectly, but are unable to if there not the same. Does anyone have any thoughts
on how best to tackle this, as this is one of the final hurdles stopping the migration? Many Thanks, John

    Hi All
    Many Thanks for the feedback.
The terminology 'migrate' was used based around the fact I will be decommissioning the old 2007 physical environment. This is after moving all DB's over to the new newly created Virtual environment that will host all roles.
The solution I ended up using yesterday, was the following:
    1) Dismounted the relevant named DB (NEWDB) in the new environment.
    2) I then ticked the 'This database can be overwritten by a restore option' box.
    3) Copied over the old named DB (OLDDB) to the same location, & overwrote using the new name (NEWDB).
    4) Re-mounted the (NEWDB).
    5) Ran the following 2 PowerShell commands:
     Get-mailbox –database OLDDB | move-mailbox –targetdatabase NEWDB -configurationonly:$true
     Get-MailboxDatabase NEWDB | ResetSearchIndex.ps1 -force
    6) Checked to make sure the clients were working ok, in the now the new (NEWDB) environment.
Rich: Many thanks for your PS script, which I will test with future DB moves & provide feedback
    J
    John.

From owa works correct active sync and outlook work correct, I can send a receive mails but, from outlook client I can not see the Global Address list.
    Step by step:

Outlook, owa active sync.. all is working fine and I can see the Global Addres list from owa and from outlook.
Move mailbox from 2007 to 2010

The user mailbox on 2010 working fine, I can access by owa by outlook and active sync and from owa I can see the Global Addres list but from outlook I can not see the GAL.
I've tried diferents outlook versions: 2003 2007 and 2010 but I can not see the GAL

Any idea how could resolve this problem?
    Thanks in advance¡

    Hi
Did you migrate your address list or create a new one? Move-OfflineAddressBook "Default Offline Address Book" -Server <your Exchange 2010 server>
    Get-OfflineAddressBook | fl *server*
Set-OfflineAddressBook "\Default Offline Address Book" -VirtualDirectories "your exchange server\OAB (Default Web Site)"
