Migration is manual. When you open up a 3.x component in a 2004s tool in migrates it. There is no automatic migration available

  • Regarding Migration of Workbooks

    Hi All,
I need to migrate workbooks from 3.x to 7.0 version.I have some queries related to it..
1.What is the basic difference between single, multiple, complex and query view??
2.How to check for the VB code??
3.How to manage the pivot table during migration??
It will be really helpful if anyone of you can give me a stepwise overview of migration of workbooks and how to check whether it has been migrated properly to 7.0 version..
Points will be assigned to the helpful answers...
    Thanks in Advance,
    Regards,
    Rahul.

    Hi Rahul,
To migrate the 3.5 workbook, open it in BEx Analyzer 7, refresh it so it populates with data. The macro SAPBEXONREFRESH no longer works so you will need to  replace it if it exists with the macro name CALLBACK. Remove the SAPBEXONREFRESH macro.
you do this in the VB code.
    Sub callback (ParamArray Resultsarea())
<code> optional (or copy code that exists in the sapbexonrefresh macro)
    End
In the global settings in the EXIT tab replace the macro to invoke as the CALLBACK macro.
If no macro code exists then select the radio button for no macros.
Save the workbook (this will now be a V7 workbook). Close session and reopen the saved workbook, refresh and check that the results are displayed correctly. FEP 700 of BEx 710 seem sto be more reliable then it's previous FEP's.

  • Error while migrating discoverer Workbook

    Hi All,
I am migrating Business Area and Work book from one instance(QA) to another(Production) DB instance.
I have successfully did export of business area and import in production instance.
For workbook migration I have followed the below mentioned steps.
    1) Open QA instance and open the required workbook.
    2) Do "Save As" of the workbook to local machine as ".DIS".
3)Then Login to Prodcution Open the workbook from the local machine. But in that case it gives following error
" Cannot join tables.Item dependency "" not found in EUL. "
"Attempt to open workbook failed" Anyone can help me to solve this issue. Please.
    Thanks
    Alaka

    Hi Janet
Here are some more notes from my private collection of tips and tricks:
Discoverer workbooks are very picky when it comes to opening up against an end user layer. Basically, here is what happens:
All EUL objects have an ID number and a name. When Discoverer saves a workbook it saves both the ID number and the name of every essential object (business area, folders, items and joins) that is used within the workbook. The next time Discoverer opens the workbook it looks at the ID numbers of the objects and tries to find them in the EUL. If it cannot find an object by its ID number it tries to locate it using the object's name. If an object cannot be located either by its ID number or by its name you will get the dreaded Item Dependency error.
OK, having got that out of the way, if you delete a folder from within the EUL and re-create it you will lose the ID number of the folder and all of its associated objects (items and joins). The only way Discoverer will be able to open this workbook now is if everything within the folder is named EXACTLY the same way (including underscores and casing of the name), otherwise the workbook will not open. Discoverer will report the error message that you are seeing.
So what can you do? Well, you need to have some way of finding out what the old folder name(s), item names and join names were. Also, you need to make sure that all items that were not hidden are not hidden now. There is no need to worry about the names of hierarchies or lists of values. These are not stored within a workbook and are only hooked in at runtime.
Seems like you have to somehow painstakingly determine what all of the item and join names were in your old folder(s) and re-create them 100% the same way in the new folder(s). By the way, when the workbook gives you the error message does it also give you an opportunity to assign al alternative item to the item that it can no longer find a value for? This may work but, in my experience, usually doesn't!! It only works if the missing dependency is an item, it won't work if the error is being caused because you have got a join name wrong. Unfortunately, joins MUST have the same name exactly otherwise there is just no way to open the workbook.
    Best wishes

  • Migration Issue - Workbook with VBA

    Hello Gurus,
I have an issue while upgrading the 3.X workbook with VBA to 7.X.The Underlying queries are migarted to 7.X and I migrated the WB and ran it in 7.X. I found out the Macros was not running. When I debugged the VBA macros I found out the Query ID which was getting pased in a function is different(betwen 3.X and 7.X workbook). The WB in 3.X(even query) has Query ID as SAPBEXQ0001 and the query ID in 7.X is something like DP_4.
In the VBA code which was written in 3.X reference to Query ID is made as SAPBEXQ0001and after migrating the WB to 7.X the underlying query ID is getting getting changed to DP_4 and the VBA macros is not executing(since there is chnage in Query ID).
I am not sure how could I change the query ID from DP_4 to SAPBEXQ0001, SO the VBA macros will run in 7.X also. I dont want to chnage the VBA macros.
    Plz suggest.
    Regards,
    BR

Haven't broadcast any wkbks with vba in them, but it should work.  I've even seen posts on SDN that talk about how to add vba code to a workbook so that when Broadcaster generates it, it saves the wkbk to file server.  Broadcaster is goign to launch Excel to geenrate the wkbks and as long as the vba code is setup to run automatically, you should be OK.

  • Workbook Migration-System error in program CL_RSR_XLS_VIEW and from ASSIGN_

    Hi Experts,
We are migrating workbooks from 3.x to BI 7. While opening the workboon from BI 7 Analyzer we are getting the following System Error  and Disconnecting from BW server.
'Program Error in class SAPMSSY1 method UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION. System error in program CL_RSR_XLS_VIEW and from ASSIGN_QUERY_2_DP03'."
We are at support pack level 17 and GUI - 710 with patch level 8.
If you have experienced with the above errors. Please respond.
    Thanks
    DB

    Hi Naveen,
In migration you will get all these errors related to Front end. First save the Existing 3.x workbook   so that the old version of the workbook will be saved into new Excel version (2003). now try to migrate the workbook , this time you will not get this error.
The root cause for this problem would be all your workbboks have been created erlier in very old version of  Excel.
    Thanks

  • Migration of discoverer workbooks from 4i to 10.1.2.2

Currently all our users are on discoverer 4i and save there workbooks to their local network drive. We are in the process of upgrading to EBS 12 and Discoverer 10.1.2.2 and want to know the best way to migrate users workbooks so that they are usable in the new version of Discoverer. Should we have them save them to the DB before we start the upgrade process or the the workbooks created in 4i work in 10.1.2?
    Thanks

    Hi,
is there a way to import all the workbooks at once?Yes, you can run discoverer desktop from a command file and use the /savedb command e.g.
    dis51usr.exe /connect user/password@database /savedb "c:\myworkbooks\sales.dis"
Could we just copy the .DIS files to the directory on the server where they are stored and would whis maintain security? No, the .DIS files can only be opened with Disco Desktop and will not be converted until they are saved in the database.

  • Remove workbook template after migration

    Hi @ll,
we have migrated all our workbooks fom 3.5 --> 7.0. In 7.0 we have created a new workbook template. How can I remove the old template from the workbook and replace it with the new one?
    Thanks in advance..
    Regards,
    Flo

    Hi Sunil,
As mentioned earlier, the problem is not with refresh. Its with loosing the format after the refresh. As a background, someone from my company had formatted all the 3.1 workbooks using Excel formatting options and they made few settings so that they won't loose the existing custom format. It worked well in 3.1. Now when migrated, the issue has started. When migrated to 7.0. style, the format is there.
It won't let you do anything unless u refresh the workbook with new variable values.
Once refreshed, the custom format disappears.
As a temporary solution, we are migrating the workbooks, copy each worksheet and perform a paste special on new worksheet. Then refresh the workbook(now we see a workbook without the custom formatting). Then copy the format(which was pasted earlier using 'paste special') and paste it on the refreshed workbook.
Then we have used 7.0 setting to keep the custom format.
So my issue is, we just want the format to be unlost even after the refresh(the first refresh) in 7.0.
    Regards
    Shanthi

  • Workbook Migration Restore

    Hi All,
I am working on migration of workbooks to BI 7 enviornment.
I want to know the answer or pointers for the following questions,
    1. What is the best strategy to migrate -
Open the workbook in each system in Bex 7 analyzer and
         save it.
or Save in new tool in development system and transport to production.
    2. How to restore the migrated workbook to old BW 3.5 version.
    3. What kind of common issues are faced in workbook migration.
    Regards,
    Niraj

    Hi Chetan.
    Thanks for the response.
I have already read the blog sent by you. But it does not  answers the questions which I raised.
I s there any way to restore workbook to 3.5. We can restore the queries using program COMPONENT_RESTORE.

  • Workbook Migration Issues

    Hi Experts,
We are migrating 3.5 workbooks to 7.0 .  Can anyone please let me know what could be the issues in the new workbooks due to migration.
    Thanks,
    AM

    Hi,
There will be various issues like; Format issue( lost format, vba, macro codes etc.), design Issues etc.
To retain the fromat after migrating the workbook to 7.0: I did this, in following way:
-save it. At this stage the format is going to be exactly same as 3.x workbook. If you start refreshing, you loose format.
-Go to design mode and deselect 'apply format' option and save it again. Here you can see that you have lost the format.
-Format it again and save it.
-This will work now when you refresh. Refreshing takes.

  • Issue after migrate  workbook from 3.1 to BI Netweaver 7.0

    Hy experts,
We have a workbook in v.3.1 with several querys in only one sheet, one below the other.
When we migrate this workbook to 7.0 and refresh it, the system shows this message:
    <i>"Some item(s) overlap with each other".</i>
Then an unassigned navigation pane (no characteristic is asiggned to it), corresponding to the first query,  is put on the analysis Grid, corresponding to the second query, so some rows are not visible.
How can we do to avoid that unassigned navigation pane?
    Regards.

    Hi,
Issue may be due to the Excle formulae used in the workbook which do not get migrated.
One way around it is to migrated the queries first and apply Excel validations on top of it in 7.0
    Hope this helps.
    Thx,
    SK

My situation is, im am migrating queries/workbooks from system x to system z. queries are moved using a custom program (query BAPI's) Queries are created with new GUID's, hense, the workbook/query relationship is lost. • Migration of datasource

    Hi All,
I am working on BI7 and SRM standard content. I observe that the hierarchy DataSource  are in 3.x version and the classic flow is not coming up after activation.
I have tried to migrate this DataSource  to 7.x with the export option but am getting the below error.
" DataSource  0BBP_BIGURE_HIER(SRDCLNT200): Data type H not supported by object type RSDS "
If some one has had this problem below Please help in the resolution.
    Kind Regards
    Niren

    Hi,
We are currently working on BI content 7.0. After transfering we got the 3.5 flow for most of it. Now we are looking for a migration of 3.x flow to 7.x flow. It would be really helpfull If any of you could  answer my following queries:
    1. How do we migrate queries/workbooks?
    2. How much of effort it would be to migrate transformations having routines in it as part of  stsandard content . And is it just a copy paste of the ABAP routines or do we need to change it to an Object oriented ABAP?
    3. We are having around 100 info providers and 300 master objects. Will it be ok if we come up with a stratergy of migrating the info providers alone and still having 3.x flow for the master info objects.
    Thanks and Regards
    Niren.
