Migration from Adobe Elements (Win XP) to Aperture 2

I am moving from a Windows XP machine with Adobe Elements 4 to an iMac and Aperture 2.1. I need to move thousands (6000 ??) of images to Aperture 2.1 and hopefully keep my metadata (keywords, tags and ratings) in the process. Both machines are connected to a LAN and I also have a network drive which I use as a backup device and shared storage. The majority of the files are JPEG (95%) with a few Canon RAW images in the mix.
Is there a recommended method of migrating Adobe Elements 4.0 files to Aperture 2.1?

I, too, would like to migrate from Photoshop Elements 4.0 on Windoze XP to Aperture 2.0 on OS X. And I'm hoping there's a way to migrate all 601,012 of my tags to Aperture instead of having to redo them all as Aperture keywords manually.
Does anyone know if this is possible? Or perhaps there's a utility to write Elements' tags as EXIF/IPTC prior to moving the files over and importing them into Aperture?

  • Migration from Photoshop Elements 4.0 to Aperture

I would like to move from a PC to Apple platform and my one concern is that I have thousands of photos catalogued in Photoshop Elements 4.0. Can I migrate all of that information over to Aperture?

I'm not perfectly sure about how aperture stores/reads metadata, but if you use the Write Tags to Files command in PE 4 before bringing the photos to your mac, the tags will show up as metadata keywords. That may be enough (don't use aperture, myself so no way to try it out) but if not, if aperture can read iphoto keywords, you can use this script to make iphoto keywords from the metadata:

  • Concept questions (editing jpegs, migrating from Album/Elements)

    Hi Lightroom experts,
I have a collection of jpegs which I have been organizing in Adobe Album, and now Elements 5.0. I was pleased to see that Elements 5 could write the metadata (keywords) to the jpegs rather than relying upon a proprietary database. It was clear to me that in Elements the keywords were in a separate database and one had to expressly write the tags to the files.
In Lightroom there is also a separate database (which requires management - like backing it up on a regular basis). What is not clear to me is how to write the metadata/tags to the original jpeg files. Does that happen automatically or must I instruct Lightroom to do so?
Must I export the files in order to write the adjusted metadata? If so, that means I have two copies (original and exported).
Secondly, I have both Photoshop CS2 and Elements 5.0. Lightroom only has an option to Edit In Elements but I want that option to be Edit in Photoshop. It is unclear how to change that configuration.
Finally, does anyone have any comments regarding migrating from Album/Elements to Lightroom for an amateur photographer like myself? Would you advise that? (I do like what I've seen in Lightroom but need to understand much more).
    Any help/pointers would be appreciated.

    Fielding,
I switched from Elements 5 after only a few weeks with it when I saw the great improvements in Lightroom from beta 4 to version 1. Several reasons for my switch. One, Elements only supports a few metadata tags, mostly keywords. I needed more to do what I wanted to do. Many people use collections in Elements for things that aren't in my opinion suitable, like for keeping trip or event pictures together. You can have that information in metadata by choosing an appropriate metadata field and using it. I'm using Job Identifier in Workflow myself. So I find the metadata support far superior in Lightroom. I was also concerned that Elements, being a product for hobbyists, would not be able to handle the large number of images I intend to put into the database. I already had trouble with the elements database ballooning so I was very concerned. I also think it has about the ugliest interface I've seen in a long time. I suppose the latter doesn't matter, but LR is SO beautiful!
I can't help you with how to get photoshop to show up. Did you try Edit/Preferences? If Elements is the first one there, the second one allows you to choose. Which Photoshop do you have? Before I got CS2 I think I did have PS find it for Lightroom.
You can ask Lightroom to write out the metadata but it does not do it in such a way that you can see it in some other applications. When it says it writes it out as XMP it means it. It's in there, but you can only see it with applications that can read XMP as opposed to IPTC etc. When you export, it does write the metadata in the way most products expect it. I've decided not to worry about this though because a) I back up my lightroom database, and b) if I do decide to abandon Lightroom, or it abandons me, I will in any case have to export everything because without exporting you don't have the Develop adjustments either. Then I back up my LR backups and my image repository, usually nightly.
My migration from Elements did not go very well but I was lucky because I'd just started entering stuff in Elements when I abandoned it -- so I didn't lose much. You can do a search of this forum, maybe on the word elements, to see several threads about the problems people have had. If you have everything in Album you might try a transfer from that first and see if it works. You can always toss your LR database if you want to try a different way of loading it. You do not have to move your files to import them into LR.
If you want a catalog, you will need a database so you get reasonable response on queries, which is presumably the reason for wanting a catalog. Both the Elements database and the LR database are standard databases that you can manipulate yourself, should you choose to do so. Elements is Access, LR is SQLite. I did look at the Elements db but haven't done anything with the LR database. I hope I don't have to because LR can export the metadata. Collections are not in metadata so I'm using collections only for things I don't need to keep.

  • I am unable to send pictures from Adobe elements 6 via e-mail anymore. Using windows 7 and Windows L

Old PC died. Bought new PC, installed my Adobe Elements 6 but now I am unable to send photos by email from Adobe Elements 6 via email anymore. Using win7 and Windows Live email. I have tried uninstalling the program and re-installing. Please help.

No, what happens when I try to send a photo as an email attachment is, after checking the recipient and then selecting “next” the next window says put in the code that was sent to you to verify that you are the person sending the photo.  (no code was received after installing it). Apparently I need to do whatever triggers sending the code to me. Uninstalling and reinstalling Elements did not result in my receiving any email with the code (and I checked the spam filter). Can you help?

  • Which of the Versions from Adobe elements has a gradations curve tool.  PSE 10, 12, 13 or which one ?

    Dear community,
which of the Versions from Adobe elements has a gradations curve tool.  PSE 10, 12, 13 or which one ?
    Your comment will be appreciated.
    Regards

    Yeah right ,
gradients tools are present in all these version
and curves are not present in any of these officially .
Curves are present with their own interface.
One big problem is that you'll never find them logically where they are : under the menu 'Enhance/color correstion', it's the 'adjust color curves' option.
Add to that problem the fact that this kind of adjustment is not about colours (no R,G,B channels) and you'll see why it is missed by everybody.
The interface is meant to help beginners understand how curves work : you choose the effect you want and you see the curve being drawn. Excellent for pedagogy but users of the traditionnal curves manipulations don't understand the new way.
If you want the old curves interface, you can add many free or affordable add-ons like Elements+. The most powerful and free one is the smartcurve plugin for Windows 32 bits.
    Other ideas:
    - if you don't use curves for colour correction, you can use the gradient tool adjustment layer (black to white) in luminosity mode. That's how you deal with curves in adjustment layers. Note that using gradient maps instead of curves is only a graphical way to determine the inflexion points. Same parameters, different inferface.
    - Using curves intensively was the way to edit ten years ago. Now, you can use the ACR basic tag to achieve quickly much better tone and colour correction, that way you won't need curves most of the time.

  • Migration from "Adobe Photoshop Album Decouverte" to "Adobe Photoshop Elements 12"

    Hello,
Is it possible to migrate all the data I have in Adobe Photoshop Album Decouverte and import it in Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 ?
Thank you for your advice !
    Marc

Finally I could solve the problem.
I tried to import the Backup.tly in Photoshop Elements, but without success. Even there an Error appeared. The conversion tool also still got this failure at a progress of 15% conversion... So I searched a reason for the failure in google and found this helpful article from Adobe. It says that you should look for the corrupt images in the log file. So did I, and I found the error causing picture on the old computer and deleted it. After that I opened Photoshop Album, clicked on "File > Reconnect all missing files" and deleted this picture from the catalog.
Now I didn't want to make the backup again, because the last nearly had 1h. So I decided to try it again by just copying the catalog.psa from the old computer to the new one and to convert it again with the conversion tool. The error came again, but at a progress of 22% So i had to do this a few times: Searching the corrupt image in the log file, deleting it on the old computer, deleting the missing file in Photoshop Album and converting it. And finally, it worked, no error after conversion! I let photoshop elements 13 open the new .pse13 file. Now, all tags and albums were back on Photoshop Elements. Eventually, I let the programm searching the new paths of all the images. It takes a time but it works great now. Thanks for your help, I would recommend the Adobe Community & support!

  • Migrating from PS Elements 6.0 (WIN) to LR (MAC)

Hello all...tried searching the forums for advice on migrating my PS Elements 6.0 (WIN) library to LR (MAC). No success. Hoping that someone here can offer advice on how to successfully make the move. My PS Elements library is fully organized into albums, lots of keyword too.
Any advice on how t make this the move with as little pain as possible will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Buy 2.0 when it comes out. 1.x came out before Elements 6 and so doesn't support migration. 2.0 will, but only on Windows. So you'll need to migrate it on Windows then move it to mac.

  • Bring back to Aperture from Adobe Elements 12

Ok I didn't have a problem bringing the photo back with Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 back to Aperture.  I am having a problem with Adobe photoshop Elements 12 bring the photo back to Aperture.  In Aperture preferences I am pointed to the Adobe Photoshop elements 12 app in the Support file.

What are your pref settings in Aperture e.g.  what type of file are you sending to the Elements Editor Application? When you finish in PSE are you using Cmd+S or File >> Save to ensure the same file is overwritten and comes back into Aperture? If you incorrectly use File >> Save As it is more likely Elements will default to PSD. Effectively you would be creating a brand new file which never originated in Aperture and hence will not come back to Aperture.

  • Migration from Photoshop Elements 8 (Windows 7 64 bit) to PE 12 (MAC)

I am planning to move from a PC Windows 7-based system to a MAC.  As part of this move I will need to migrate Photoshop Elements from PE 8 in Windows to PE 12 on MAC.  Back in July, I previously asked what steps would be necessary to migrate to PE 11 on MAC, but I delayed making the move (waiting for the new MacBook Pro) and will now be migrating to PE 12.
Do I still follow the same steps for a (hopefully!) smooth transition of my tagged photos and catalog?  i.e., migrate from PE 8 (Windows) to PE 12 (Windows).  Then from PE 12 (Windows) to PE 12 (MAC).  Are there any gotchas or caveats that I should be aware of?  I've read a few horror stories in various places and am nervous.
    Thanks, Amy

I'm a bit slow on implementation.  So far I have good news and bad news.  But bottom line, I need some additional help.
First the good news: The upgrade in Windows from PE 8 to PE 12 went smoothly, with all tags and their hierarchical structure maintained.  Ditto for Albums which showed up under "Local Albums."
I am now stymied with the bad news and hoping for more guidance:  I just got my new MacBook last week, with my data files transfered over from my Windows PC.  Unfortunately, the migration to PE 12 MAC (installed for me with the disc from the boxed version) did not make the transition smoothly.  All of my tags came in under "Imported Keyword Tags," with the hierarchical structure totally flattened, and they cannot be dragged-and-dropped into a renewed structure into People, Places, and Events tags, as appropriate.  Also, all of my Albums have disappeared.
I'm thinking that maybe I should restore the catalog.  But when I started to do so, I was asked to choose between New or Original Location.  Then, when I chose "original location" (not wanting to clutter my new hard drive with duplicates), PE 12 gave me a warning about the potential for changes to the existing file structure.  So I stopped and decided to come back to the Adobe Forum for more help.
    Thanks in advance!  Again!  Amy

  • Upgrading from Adobe Elements 6 to 8

I recently updated to iPhoto 9 and have ordered Adobe Elements 8.
iPhoto 9 still works with Elements 6 as my external editor.
Do I have to do anything special before installing Adobe Elements 8 or will iPhoto still know I want Adobe Elements as my external editor.
    I hope this makes sense.

You don't have to do anything special before installing PSE 8 but there are some subtle changes to preferences when using it with iPhoto.
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • ASV plugin to FLEX migration from Adobe?

Has Adobe provided any migration path from ASV 3 plugin to

I thought it is just a pure common sense to make the

  • Migrating from Adobe Output Pak to NW04+

Does anyone have any information/documentation regarding the migration path from Adobe Output Pak solutions built on R/3 4.6 (or the like) to Adobe Interactive Forms for ECC 6.0? ; If the client would like to maintain their existing solution on Adobe Output Pak is it supported for NW04+ versions?  What are the challenges of moving Adobe Output Pak solutions to Adobe Interactive Forms?  Does this require complete rework of the solutions or can the solutions just be migrated?  Based on SAP's comments it looks like SAPscript  requires modification (but to what extent) and SmartForms can be migrated with minimal to no rework.  Is this true?

    Thanks for the questions:
Yes, the Output Pak solution will still work and is still supported with NW04 & NW04S systems.  So there is really nothing the customer has to do to keep working the way he always has.
As for the conversion from Output Pak to Interactive Forms by Adobe the answer is a little more complicated (sorry).  I assume you're working from SAPScript forms.  You need to consider the parts of the OutputPak solution that need to be migrated. There is the SAP Print program, the SAPScript layout set and the Adobe form (IFD).
There is no solution for automatically migrating the print program or the layout set into the Forms processing interface and context.  The paradigms are just too different. Depending on how customized the print program is, you will either need to re-develop it or go to the SAP standard print program for the scenario and redo any customizations.
You can convert the IFD to an interactive form.  The first thing you need is the latest Output Design to be installed on the same workstation as the Adobe Designer.  Then, in transaction SFP, go to the Layout tab to bring up the Designer. Then use the "Tools->Import" command to bring the IFD into Designer.  That will bring in the structure. Of course the data binding is probably all wrong at this point but it's pretty easy to fix that by just using drag-and-drop from the schema onto the for fields.  You may need to do some scripting as well since the old preamble code will not be brought it. There may be other parameters on subforms that you need to set to get the same effects you used to set up in the preamble.
Now for some brutal honesty - I've never done this and I don't know of anyone who has, so you're breaking new ground if you try it..  I know that this should work in theory but...
If you do try it out, please let me know how you make out.  If you have questions I'll try to answer them but sometimes it's a while before I can get back to you. If it takes too long, please just prod me at [email protected].
    Best of luck

  • Printing from Adobe Elements 6 and getting unwanted borders

I recently had to get a new Epson printer.  I previously had an R1800 and now have the 1400.  When I used Adobe Elements to open and print a photo that I have printed in the past without a border now prints with a 1.5" border on the right side and the bottom of the 8.5 x 11 glossy sheet.  But when I open the pic in other software it prints the full 8.5 x 11 sheet with no borders.  When looking at the print box it shows the pic without borders but then when it prints it has the borders.  I even click "borderless" but that does not work either.  The only thing I changed was the new Epson printer.  Please help.

mine does not look like that ....the 3 boxes are "page setup" ....."print"......"cancel"......there is no "more options" box to click.

  • Printing from adobe on win xp hangs for 3-8 sec before printing

On networked printers (any of them) Adobe will hang for a short time (perhaps while spooling job) then will continue with printing. While most users dont notice, We have had a few complaints. This happens while printing from the web or from adobe reader.

Problem solved. Does only happen with the Internet Explorer 32bit.
With Internet Explorer 64bit it doesn't happen.

  • Migrating from Adobe Lightroom to Aperture

What is the best way to do this and maintain keywords, settings, etc.. I have imported folders as projects from my Lightroom library, but I'm not sure that I got exposure corrections this way. I think that I just got the original Raw files.
    Thanks,
    Ken

Aperture can't currently read sidecar files, even though it can generate them.
But that would still only bring across keywords and metadata, not any of the image adjustments.
    Ian
EDIT - if you mean exporting converted files (TIFFs or JPEGs) then everything should come across, but of course you'd be losing the advantage of lossless changes to RAW files.
