Migration from CA service desk to SCSM 2012 r2

Does any one have experience with migrating from CA Service Desk to SCSM 2012 R2?
How did you accomplish the migration

This is a common misconception about IT Service desk software, and a common reason that most helpdesk and service desk implementation fail miserably; that this something that you can just swap in and out like an email system. A service desk system isn't
just a file sharing site that you can forklift your data from and move on like before. Your service desk software is an
ERP for IT. Your Service Desk software is somewhere between a model of your IT department and a 5th column manager for your IT staff.
The typical methodology for doing this type of migration is to construct a straw model of your IT department, specifically your service book and work groups, and review your service book and incident handling procedures. once we have a solid understanding
of how your department actually runs at a conceptual and work item level, we can build a model of those work flows into service manager.
At that point, once we have a functional model of your department constructed in service manager, then we can start moving config item data. For 8 out of 10 implementations, this is better accomplished using a fresh discovery of config items from original
sources, which can then be reused to create an update methodology.
Provance's DMP (and to a lesser extent, the out of the box connectors, like the CSV connector) is a great tool for this, since it lets you build import templates that can be periodically run to update new data like purchases
for work items, a Knife edge cutover day is the simplest conversion, but certainly not the only option, that is, you decide January 15th is the day that the new system is available, and all work items go into the old system until January 14th,
and the old system will be locked for new requests on the 15th. any work in the old system is worked and closed using the usual process (even after the 15th) until the old system fades into obsolescence over the next 30 or 60 days.
You might notice that for medium enterprises (5,000 employees or so), this process typically takes several weeks of prep, and a couple of months of implementation, and it scales fairly linearly based on the size of your IT department. small departments
(somewhere below 20 analysts) can be done in a month or so, and very large IT groups, this can take a year or more.

  • Error: "Cannot connect to the Service Manager portal WCF service on SSP" SCSM 2012

I have the SSP installed on a Sharepoint 2010 server.  The web portal is installed on the SCSM 2012 management server.  When opening the SMPortal I get an error message at the bottom
"Cannot connect to the Service Manager portal WCF service.  Please contact your helpdesk or UT administrator for further help."
I have manually modified the web.config on the portal for SSL and the Application Settings in Sharepoint IIS per the guidance of others.  I'm able to open the service in a browser.  Assistance is greatly appreciated.

Http and https is bound on both the content server and the portal. That didn't work. Same error message:
Cannot connect to the Service Manager portal WCF service. Please contact your helpdesk or IT administrator for further help.
Here's the IIS log for the content server

  • DFS New Setup migrating from 2003 R2 file server to 2012 Server STD

We currently have a 2003 R2 flat file server with multiple layers of nested network shares with over 2.5TB of data. We want to migrate to DFS on 2012 Server standard version with deduplication enabled. We have never worked with DFS and deduplication and
any white paper on DFS and deduplication would be greatly appreciated. Not finding anything on DFS step by step for 2012 and in particular migrating from 2003 file share to 2012 server DFS.

Thank you for the URL to your DFS write up. This was very helpful in my research of DFS. I have a couple of questions. Do I have to start DFS with two servers? I completely understand why you should have more than one server in the DFS pool (high
availability) but is it necessary? Also after setting up the two 2012 Servers with DFS, namespaces, and new shares managed by DFS manager, how do we migrate (move or copy) the existing shares to new server without losing the permissions? From what I've read
in your write-up all end users with have read and write permissions and admins have full. Also is there a best practice on how nested the shares should be setup within DFS? From looking at your write up the shares are one folder deep only. At this
company I'm migrating from a file server with shares 3-8 layers deep build up over the last 20 years.

  • Add and remove fields from web service desk

I want to customize the screen for the web service desk. I would like to remove the fields for processor as well as the field for category. I would like to replace those fields with Geographical Location and Telephone number. How can i do this?

    Hi,
In REST we cannot pass arrays like this:
    String catRefIds[] = new String[1];
    catRefIds[0] = "12345";
    map.put("catalogRefIds", catRefIds);
    This will never work.
Had done a similar implementation. The thing I did was, I wrote a logic that accepts comma separated catalogRefIds and converts it to individual catalogRefId and populate the list.

  • Help with migrating from PPC G5 to MacBook Pro 2012

I haven't even booted up my new MacBook Pro, because a lot of postings in Discussions and elsewhere warn me of problems if I try to use Migration Assistant to bring my user data and files across from a PPC Mac to a new MacBook Pro running Lion.
BORING DETAILS:  I'm jumping from a dual G5 Dual Power Mac (PPC, running Leopard 10.5.8) over to a 2012 MacBook Pro, (a 15" fast i7 quad non-retina, with 1 GB GPU and 16 GB RAM, running latest Lion). I have a lot of data and apps, including "pro apps" like Final Cut and lots of photo- and video-production software.
I know that I'll need to reinstall all my apps from scratch, even Universals, especially all my Pro apps. But, I have read some positive guidance about possibly using Migration Assistant to move only my User identity and related files across to the MBP. Then, reinstalling / upgrading apps. And, afterwards, using Firewire (target mode) to move various data folders and docs.
I'm confused. I like the idea of moving myself as User/admin across, relatively intact -- IF that's a good idea -- then reinstalling apps. Then, moving various files (docs andand data) across. Hopefully, this route wind up with minimal or zero PERMISSIONS  problems. Guidance or links, pretty please...?
I've read the great postings from Kappy and some others, in Discussions, but most don't address the issue of moving User identity and data from the PPC Mac over to the Intel. Maybe it's a "big" issue only in my mind?

Joshua Coventry and sig and others:
    Thanks!
If you combine those last two pieces of advice and mix in the best of the earlier suggestions, that's pretty much what I wound up doing:
I used Setup Assistant to create a "NewGuest" account on the MacBook Pro, with minimal information submitted to Apple (basically, only my correct name and address, etc.). Then I immediately used the Migration Assistant to bring over ONLY 1) my main User admin account and its Home folder and 2) the computer settings from the G5 Power Mac.
Finally, I changed the "NewGuest" to a regular account (non-admin), rebooted the MPB, and deleted NewGuest and its home folder. Then began the long job of feeding appropriate software into my new MBP: installing or reinstalling the latest Intel versions of all of my key productivity apps and utilities.
So far, I'm getting very good results. No MBP indigestion, but it's daunting to look at a new Dock that's now almost totally populated by question marks (the G5's Dock had almost fifty apps)! There's one major benefit: a chance to reconsider whether I really needed all of that stuff to begin with, and if I need it now!
The need-it-now vital stuff is being pulled over via Firewire, and I've just bought an external USB 3 enclosure for the G5's main boot drive, and it will now be available as a handy source for various files, docs, settings as I need them, and for any "second thoughts" that I might have about what really belongs on the MacBook Pro's boot disk. All is well, and it looks like it will STAY well (but stay tuned!).
Thanks, y'all! Hope this helps someone else facing a similar challenge.

  • VM Migration from Hyper-V 2008 R2 to 2012 successful but leave duplicate source VM with "Incomplete VM Configuration"

We are in the process of moving VMs from our legacy 2008R2 Hyper-V cluster to our new Hyper-V 2012 cluster using VMM 2012 SP1 CU3. Most VM migrations go just as expected and are completely successful. I have had a couple of VMs however that appear to successfully
migrate but leave behind the VM on the source 2008R2 in the VMM configuration with a status of "Incomplete VM Configuration." Using the VMM shell, I get the following:
    Get-SCVirtualMachine | where { $_.Name -EQ "<VM>"} | fl name, status, VMId
    Name : <VM>
    Status : IncompleteVMConfig
    VMId : <DuplicateID>
    Name : <VM>
    Status : Running
    VMId : <DuplicateID>
If you use failover cluster manager on both the 2008R2 and the 2012 clusters the VM shows it is gone from the 2008R2 cluster and just fine on the 2012 cluster. I have tried everything I can think on short of removing the cluster from VMM to try
and resolve this issue and I really don't want to have to do this everytime I run into this issue. I've tried just right-clicking the VM in the VMM console and selecting "Delete" which does remove it but then it pops back in once the VMs refresh
on the 2008R2 nodes. I have tried to force the removal using "Get-SCVirtualMachine | where { $_.Name -EQ "<VM>" -and $_.Status -EQ "IncompleteVMConfig"} | Remove-SCVirtualMachine -Force" and it again pops right
back into the console. It seems to me like during the migration, SCVMM isn't cleaning up after itself and updating its database to reflect where the VM now resides. How can I permanently remove this VM that is leftover when migration between clusters without
having to remove and read the cluster to VMM?

Since nobody replied, I opened a case with MS.
The resolution to this issue is to use Hyper-V manager to connect to the node you migrated the VM from. Here you will see a VM that has only a GUID for a name and is in an incomplete state. Right click this leftover VM and delete it using Hyper-V manager.
Then go back into SCVMM and refresh both your source Windows 2008R2 and then your target 2012 clusters. This will reconcile the SCVMM database and the duplicate VM. According to MS, there is some process that didn't complete deleting this VM as part of the
migration and performing these steps cleanly resolves the issue.

  • What chords do i need for a data migration from macbook 2008 to  macbook air 2012

My 2008 macbook has a firewire port and my new macbook air 2012 has a thunderbolt port. I have a thunderbolt cable but i can't find an adapter to firewire or the firewire cord? Should I return the thunderbolt cable and surrender the 100 bucks for one-on-one or go through the tedious process of using my external hard drive as the 'messenger boy'?

There's all sorts of ThunderBolt to FireWire adapters out there. Here's one on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Thunderbolt-to-FireWire-Adapter/dp/B008RXYOKY/ref=sr _1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1346277186&sr=8-11&keywords=thunderbolt+firewire
    You'd also need a FireWire 800 to 400 adapter. http://www.amazon.com/elago-FireWire-400-800-Adapter/dp/B002TF0ZDQ/ref=sr_1_8?ie =UTF8&qid=1346277133&sr=8-8&keywords=thunderbolt+to+firewire

  • Migrating from late 2009 Mini to new 2012

I have tried all methods of migrating but the computer doesn't connect to the  other computer.
I have done 800 Firewire computer to computer by restarting and holding T but all I get is the Firewird logo bouncing around the screen but I have no access.
I have done ethernet to ethernet between the two computers but it just spins and I have connected both computers to the router but it still spins.
How can I get the older HD with all its settings on the new MINI?
    Thanx

Hello, just checking, is the older one the one in Target Mode?
Any other drives connected to either?
Does the older Mac in t mode show up in Finder or Disk Utility on the newer one?

  • OLEDLG.dll dependency introduced when migrating from VS 2005 C++ to VS 2012 C++

I have an application that installed and ran fine on Windows server 2008 r2 Core when it was written in C++ VS2005. However, to cope with new Windows platforms, I have had to rebuild my application in C++ VS 2012. Now, without any other functional
changes, I can no longer install my app in Server 2008 r2 core. The installer invokes several custom actions that reside in one of my C++ DLLs. Using depends.exe, I can see that the problem is that my DLL now has a dependency on oledlg.dll which is
    not part of server core.
I believe this may be due to a difference in the MFC libraries. However, is there anywhere in any of the project settings where I can say that my program definitely does not need a GUI and which I can set so that I don't end up with oledlg.dll as a dependency?

    Hi Weebo,
As far as I know, the oledlg.dll library is one of Microsoft Corporation products, and it contains core OLE tasks which allow items created in one application to be embedded in documents done by a different application.
    >>However, is there anywhere in any of the project settings where I can say that my program definitely does not need a GUI and which I can set so that I don't end up with oledlg.dll as a dependency?
Not the real VC++ development experts, but if your projects refer to this dll file, I doubt that you couldn't remove it.
In addition, as you said that you don't use this dll file in VS2005, am I right? Actually you know that we didn't support the VS2005, it was a really old version. And it has some compatibility issues between VS2012 and VS2005. So if your projects need to
load this dll file, I'm afraid that you would copy the dll file or install it in your specific Environment which doesn't have it in default.

    Icelandic DBA admin

    Hi there Jarek,
I am having now exactly the same problem; i didnt know i could find the messages in solman with DNOTIF transaction.
I could before create support messages from my satellite system, by using RFC BACK connection as log on screen, so the user was able to log on and the messages was succesfully created. Now I am trying to use this RFC connection as not log on screen, with an automatically generated user (with the RFC wizard from SMSY transaction in solman), and im getting same error as you.
I dont know if these are related, but if my explanation can help ypu, or someboday else who knows can help us please
    Thanks a lot in advance
    regards

  • Change Request Management--Create Transport Request from Service Desk

    Hi Experts,
What are the right steps to create a change request via service desk message and keep following the process until import to PRD.
    Regards.

    Hello Jorge,
You can create Change Request using two ways.
You can create a Change Request from a Service Desk Message using the action "Create Change Request" or you can create a Change Request directly in transaction CRMD_ORDER.
Please, check the links below where you can find more information about Charm.

  • ADMT 3.2 migration from 2003 to 2012 R2

    Hello,
The latest update of ADMT supports AD 2012 (and R2), and I succeed the following migration with ADMT 3.2 :
    2003 -> 2008 R2
    then
    2008 R2 -> 2012 R2
I would like to know if the migration from an AD 2003 to AD 2012 R2 is possible in one step and if someone did that (that means without the 2008 R2 transition's step).
    Thanks

Migration from an AD 2003 to AD 2012 R2 is possible:

  • Importing Release Record into SCSM 2012

    Hi,
First of all, I am not sure if what I will ask next is in the correct channel. If i am not, please do guide me to the proper channel.
I am recently working on a project that require migration of Release Record. I am working closely with the ITIL Process Consultant team where the requirement to migrate customer existing Release Record  with Activities.
I have been working with the file "Apendix A" to pinpoint all the Projections needed, and I have been using the command below to identify what is required for Release Record Projection
    Get-SCSMTypeProjection system.workitem.releaserecordprojection
To my surprise, it does not seem as easy how I dealt with Change Request, where Release Record Projection does not include Activity as Target Type. Without this, i could not import a Release Record with Activity (using XML and CSV). I have also compare with
other modules that uses Activity and confirm both Release Record and Service Request does not have the Activity Target Type in its Projection.
Would anyone advice how could i import/migrate Release Record with Activity into SCSM 2012 ?
Is there a possibility for me to extend the Projection ? (crazy idea I presume)
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, as you have noticed, there is a difference between these projections. The Activities need to be dynamically added. You need to count how many child levels of activities you have, and dynamically add components with sub components for each child
level so that all of the activities for the parent RR and all of their children are pulled recursively.
This sounds complicated but is not that bad if you know how to code.
