Migration from OWB 10.2 to OWB 11.2

Hi there!
I'd like to know if someone can tell me if there is some problem if I want to "migrate" a mdl file from 10.2 to 11.2.
I mean: I've got a mdl file built in OWB 10.2, Is it possible to import it in OWB 11.2 without problem or not?
If the answer is no, what am I supposed to do for my need?
Thanks in advance
Steven

StevenThere are some patches to OWB that you will want to get if you are doing this...
http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/2010/08/recommended_owb_patch_before_repository_upgrade_or_migration_9802120.html?goback=.gmp_140609.gde_140609_news_183727185
Your best option is to go to 11.2.0.2 if you can but otherwise get patch 9802120.

  • Migrating from OWB Version 9.0.2 to OWB 10g R2

    Hi
I have successfully exported some objects such as Dimensions and facts from Version 9.0.2 to OWB 10gR2.
While importing these objetcs into 10gR2 I got the warning :
The language locale id <en_US> in the MDL file is different from the repository language locale id <en_GB> Do you want to continue with the import ?
I clicked on Yes and the imports were successful
However, when I tried the same process for importing a Mapping I got the following error
CNV0002-0037(ERROR): Target language American English with ISO id en_US is already used in this repository by source language American English with ISO id en_US.
Can anybody provided any suggestions on how to overcome this.
    Appreciate any help
    Thanks,
    Sushant

    Hi,
i think that there´re different Character Sets between the old an the new Server , you migrated to.
It´s funny that the import of your Project ended successfully, i´m surprised :-)
Hm, maybe you can made this with a hole Project, but not with only a Mapping,
or still only one Metadata Object?
However, if i stands in your Shoes, i would try to create the Mapping by Hand in the new environment.
`Cause changing a Character Set is quit harder ;-)

  • Migration from OWb to INFORMATCA

    Dear Friends,
I have implemented OBIA 7.9.6.2 for a customer.
They also want to migrate existing BIDW application (OWB and Discoverer) to INFORMATICA & OBIEE.
I got solutions to migrate Discoverer to OBIEE.
Kindly suggest is there any utility /solution/ tool to migrate “.mdl file” (OWB repository file) to “.rep file” (INFORMATICA reporsitory).
I am using Inofrmatica Power Center 8.6.1
    Thanks,
    Ashok

Try Informatica forums, maybe they got a tool that can help you. Oracle certainly doesn't have interest in providing a tool to encourage users to stop using their products (generally applies to any vendor, right?).
I wonder why someone would choose to replace a perfectly fine tool like OWB with an external vendor that has additional costs associated (not least of them migration cost as you'll have to redo all work).

Why dont you take the rep that is in 7.9.6.x informatica install. No need to convert OWB solution to informatica using different other tools.

  • Migration of OWB

    Hi,
I have to migrate OWB 9i from Solaris to OWB 10g R2 Linux. On Linux server 64 bit I have to install OWB 10g R2. Which version I have to install to migrate from OWB 9i? I found this version in oracle site OWB 10g R2(10.2.0.1). Is it right one to install on Linux server 64 bit and to migrate from OWB 9.2.
Or instal OWB 10g R2(10.2) and apply patch 10g R2(10.2.0.2) and then migrate from OWB 9.2. This way mentioned in stallation for upgrade. Is it upgrade is same as installing new software and migrating? Please anybody can clarify my doubt.
    Thanks
    SM

    Hi,
First of, I would take a look at the upgrade training here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/admin/owbmigrate.htm
That should clarify the steps. You should start either with 10.2.0.2 as it support runtime migration from 9.2.x. So that makes it simpler for you.

  • OWB 9.0.3 migration to OWB 10G R2

    Hi All,
I am in the process of doing the Migration of OWB 9.0.3 migration to OWB 10G R2, I am doing it for the first time.
is there any manual or can any one help me with the steps to achieve the migration.
    thanks.

Hi there. I am currently going from 9.03 to 10.1.0.5.
You cant go 9.03 to 10.2.03 (paris or 11G) the leap is too large. However you can go straight from 9.03 to 10.1.0.5.
I exported 9.03 mdl's and imported them into 10.1.0.5 the mdl updater kicked in and upgraded the 9.03 mdls which i then imported into 10.1.0.5.
then after adjusting the repos to use the locations (they dont exist in 9.03). register the locations in the runtimes etc. then you can generate and deploy and it all should work just fine.
Now I am unable to go straight to 10.2 (due to the testing i have to complete) but I did test the mdl files that were created by the upgrade process from 9.03 to get into 10.1 and they in turn can be imported upgraded into 10.2 so you can hop versions if it makes sense for you.
It does involve some setup. I tend to export import OWB when doing upgrades. So installing seperate OWB repositories is what I do (as in owb design repos 9.03 in one database instance and 10.1 in another ) that way you dont break /loose your 9.03.
if you can clone your target 9.03 target runtime database and simply use the target installer in 10.1 to install the 10.1 runtime into your current target schema's. plus you can do some parallel testing. Be prepared 9.03 is faster than 10.xx its runtime engine is simply faster. there is overhead in all the extra runtime logging.
Plus the way you release code will most likely change (ok it has too) you cant run/release/deploy 10.xx maps without using the OWB deployment framework either UI or scripting via OMB Plus.
    Have Fun
    Richard.

  • Connect to MSSQL from OWB Linux.

    Hi,
This is almost an embarrasing question to ask because I should be able to find this information but Alas! such is life.
So here goes, I want to be able to connect from my OWB 10gR2 on Linux to Microsoft SQL Server on some windows box. I went into MY_PROJECT->Databases->Non-Oracle->SQL Server and hit create.
I got details for a location that I filled as follows -
    User Name: username
    Password: password
    Host: Host\Instance
    Port: 1433
    Service Name: Instance
    Use Global Name: unchecked
    Schema: username
    When I test this, I get -
ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Unable to retrieve text of NETWORK/NCR message 65535
    ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from OWB_1087
Am I missing something? Do I need to do something else? I saw this posting -
Connect to MS SQL server from OWB on Linux platform
    but it seems dated.
I don't know if there are easier ways to connect from OWB Linux to MSSQL Windows in the newer versions. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I recommend watching this viewlet: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/sql_server_source_all/sql_server_source_all_viewlet_swf.html
It shows how to setup connections to SQL Server. However, there is one major change. The viewlet shows how to do this on Windows and you need to do this on Linux. The only step that changes is step 1: setting up the ODBC driver. You will need to find a Linux ODBC driver and driver manager for SQL Server and get that setup. After that you can use the viewlet to setup the Heterogeneous Services.

Is anybody face the same issue?
Do we need to configure something before loading data from a flat file from OWB Client?
    Any help would higly appreciable.
    Regards,
    Manmohan Sharma

    Hi Detlef / Gowtham,
Now I am able to fetch data from flat files from OWB Server as well as OWB Client.
One way I have achieved as suggested by you
    1) Creating location on the OWB Client
    2) Samples the files at client
    3) Created & Configured external table
    4) Copy all flat files on OWB Server
    5) Updated the location which I created at the client.
    Other way
    1) Creating location on the OWB Client
    2) Samples the files at client
    3) Created & Configured external table
    4) Copied flat files on the sever in same drive & directory . like if my all flat files are on C:\data at OWB Client then I copied flat file C:\data on the OWB Server. But this is feasible for Non-Windows.
    Hence my problem solved.
    Thanks a lot.
    Regards,
    Manmohan

  • Import/Export from OWB-- Discoverer

    Hello,
Can anybody tell me the way to export and import data from OWB 10.1.2 onto Discoverer 10.1.2?
    Thank You,
    Mani.

    Hi Mani,
Typically you'd define a collection in OWB, and then select Project Menu -> Metadata Export -> Bridge.
Choose Oracle Discoverer as To: item and give it a description.
Next you select one or more collections to export and possibly some more transfer parameters and you're good to go.
For more background check chapter "Importing and Exporting with the Metadata Loader (MDL)".
    Good luck, Patrick

  • Problems when moving from OWB 10.1 to OWB 10.2

    Hello!
I got some problems when I try to move from OWB 10.1 to OWB 10.2.
In the new environment I have
    Oracle Warehouse Builder Client 10.2.0.1.31
    Oracle Warehouse Builder Repository 10.2.0.1.0
When I try to create a dimension I got the following errors:
VLD-0338: The hierarchy DEF in dimension D_ENGINE contains only one level ENGINE.
For Storage Type-relational along with Deployment Option-Deploy Data Objects, dimension can consist of only one level (without any containing hierarchy).
VLD-0339: In Relational Dimension D_ENGINE, the hierarchy DEF contains either only one level or no levels.
Relational Dimension hierarchy should contain atleast two levels or relational dimension can contain only one level with out any hierarchy.
When I then try to edit the dimension the Data Object Editor is not opened when I right-click and select "Open Editor". However when I double-click the Data Object Editor is opened but it is totally empty.
Another problem I have is when I try to create a Process Flow, I can't create any tranistions. When I place the cursor on the first activity I get the arrow but when I drag it to the next no arrow is cretaed between them,
I also like to add parameters to the start activity but I can't find the "Activity View"

    Hi,
i don´t think that thie Version is so full with bugs, i use it since 11 month, that way...
Some tricky Things there, thats right,
but what heres explained as Problems, i think that might not be patched away :-)

This will not work.. Ypu cannot use FTP to 'PULL' a document into the database. (Yes I know there's a placeholder for an FTPURITYPE() but it was never implemented).
However you can use an FTP client to PUSH content into the XML DB repository. If the content is schema based XML associated with a known (registered) XML schema the content of the file will automatically be stored in the default table associated with the root element of the file. If the content is not associated with an known XML schema you can then use xdburitype to read the resource that was created when the document was uploaded into the repository
