Migration from Split Ledger to NewGL

Hi,
We have been using Split Ledger since 4.62. As far as I understand the data migration tool from Split Ledger to NewGL is only available in Enhancement Package 4 which is currently at ramp-up stage. Question: dose anybody know any organization (a ramp-up customer) that has completed or is in the middle of migrating from Split Ledger to NewGL?
Thank you very much!
Regard,
Ming

Hello Mar,
Thanks for the information.
I am particularly looking for a reference, a SAP client who has done a migration from Split Ledger to New GL. If you know any organization with that experience please let me know.
Thank you and best regards,
Ming

  • Migration from Classic GL to newGL

    Hi All,
We are planning to migrate from classic GL to newGL, in this regard we have come across SAP Note 1070629 (FAQs: New general ledger migration) and point 43 in this note says it is not possible to make any postings to previous fiscal year.
Our audit for the fiscal year 2009 & 2010 is not yet finalized and user is required to make posting into these previous fiscal years.
Our question is that is it possible to make any entries in these previous years after migration to newGL.
I hope many of you might have come across such situation in newGL migration project. Could you please share your experience on how to handle this critical issue.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Migration from 4.7 to ECC 6.0 - Deactivate Update of Classic General Ledger

My client has migrated from 4.7 to ECC 6 version. In the ealier version we had a report developed in FI Module, which was created as a local object.
Now when we are trying to activate the same development in ECC 6.0 and I am trying to use the dynamic selections option of this report, system is throwing an error and taking to this customisation node :
Fin Accounting Global Settings (New)->Tools ->Deactivate Update of Classic General Ledger (GLT0).
Can I know the implications of this option ? Can I deselect the check boxes mentioned in this node ? What could be the consequences ?
    Please guide me.
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi
GLTO is the table that used to get updated with the totals prior to ECC 6.0 (in 4.7).
After migrating into ECC 6.0 the GLTO is no more valid and the new table FAGLFLEXT replaces GLTO.
SAP also recommends to deactivate the update of GLTO via Fin Accounting Global Settings (New)->Tools ->Deactivate Update of Classic General Ledger (GLT0) once you have establised that the new GL is working correctly.
I dont foresee any consequences of deactiavting GLTO if the new GL has been activated in your new client and you are sure that the NEW GL is working correctly.
    Good Luck

  • How to migrate from a standard store setup in a splitted store (msg - idx) setup

How can I migrate from a standard store setup in a splitted setup described in
    https://wikis.oracle.com/display/CommSuite/Best+Practices+for+Messaging+Server+and+ZFS
can a 'reconstruct' run do the migration or have I do a
    imsbackup - imsrestore ?

If your new setup would use the same filesystem layout as the old one (i.e. directory paths to the files would be the same when your migration is complete) you can just copy the existing store into the new structure, rename the old store directory into some other name, and mount the new hierarchy instead of it (zfs set mountpoint=...). The CommSuite Wiki also includes pages on more complex migrations, such as splitting the user populace into several stores (on different storage) and/or separate mailhosts. That generally requires that you lock the user in LDAP (perhaps deferring his incoming mail for later processing into the new location), migrate his mailbox, rewrite the pointers from LDAP, reenable account. The devil is in the details, for both methods. For the latter, see Wiki; for the former I'll elaborate a bit here
    1) To avoid any surprises, you should stop the messaging services before making the filesystem switch, finalize the data migration (probably with prepared data already mostly correct in the new hierarchy before you shut down the server, just resync'ing the recent changes into new structure), make the switch and reenable the server. If this is a lightly-used server which can tolerate some downtime - good for you If it is a production server, you should schedule some time when it is not very used so you can shut it down, and try to be fast - so perhaps practice on a test system or a clone first.
I'd strongly recommend taking this adventure in small reversible steps, using snapshots and backups, and renaming old files and directories instead of removing them - until you're sure it all works, at least.
    2) If your current setup already includes a message store on ZFS, and it is large enough for size to be a problem, you can save some time and space by tricks that lead to direct re-use of existing files as if they are the dataset with a prepopulated message store.
    * If this is a single dataset with lots of irrelevant data (i.e. one dataset for the messaging local zone root with everything in it, from OS to mailboxes) you can try zfs-cloning a snapshot of the existing filesystem and moving the message files to that clone's root (eradicating all irrelevant directories and files on the clone). Likewise, you'd remove the mailbox files on the original system (when the time is right, and after sync-ing).
    * If this is already a dedicated store dataset which contains the directories like dbdata/    mboxlist/  partition/ session/   and which you want to split further to store just some files (indices, databases) separately, you might find it easier to just make new filesystem datasets with proper recordsizes and relocate these files there, and move the partition/primary to the remaining dataset's root, as above. In our setups, the other directories only take up a few megabytes and are not worth the hassle of cloning - which you can also do for larger setups (i.e. make 4 clones and make different data at each one's root). Either way, when you're done, you can and should make sure that these datasets can mount properly into the hierarchy, yielding the pathnames you need.
    3) You might also look into separating the various log-file directories into datasets, perhaps with gzip-9 compression. In fact, to reduce needed IOPS and disk space at expense of available CPU-time, you might use lightweight compression (lzjb) on all messaging data, and gzip on WORM data sets - local zone, but not global OS, roots; logs; etc. Structured databases might better be left without compression, especially if you use reduced record sizes - they might just not compress enough to make a difference, just burning CPU cycles. Though you could look into "zle" compression which would eliminate strings of null bytes only - there's lots of these in fresh database files.
    4) If you need to recompress the data as suggested in point (3), or if you migrate from some other storage to ZFS, rsync may be your friend (at least, if your systems don't rely on ZFS/NFSv4 ACLs - in that case you're limited to Solaris tar or cpio, or perhaps to very recent rsync versions which claim ACL support). Namely, I'd suggest "rsync -acvPHK --delete-after $SRC/ $DST/" with maybe some more flags added for your needs. This would retain the hardlink structure which Messaging server uses a lot, and with "-c" it verifies file contents to make sure you've copied everything over (i.e. if a file changes without touching the timestamp).
Also, if you were busy preparing the new data hierarchy with a running server, you'd need to rsync old data to new while the services are down. Note that reading and comparing the two structures can take considerable time - translating to downtime for the services.
Note that if you migrate from ZFS to ZFS (splitting as described in (2)), you might benefit from "zfs diff" if your ZFS version supports it - this *should* report all ofjects that changes since the named snapshot, and you can try to parse and feed this to rsync or some other migration tool.
Hope this helps and you don't nuke your system,
    //Jim Klimov

  • Exchange 2013 Migration from 2010 Test (Shared split DNS)

    Hi
Im testing a migration from Exchange 2010 to 2013. I have tried to run a single DNS name to both servers, so externally mail.test.com resolves to the external IP and that NAT's to the new Exchange 2013. Then internally mail.test.com resolves both to EXC13
and EXC10 ip adresses (Round Robin).
I have moved some mailboxes to 2013. If the IP resolves to the new Exchange and i try to login to a mailbox on the old server i get redirected as im supposed to. If the IP resolves to the old Exchange and i try to login with a mailbox on the new server i
    get:
A server configuration change is temporarily preventing access to your account. Please close all Web browser windows and try again in a few minutes. If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk.
Should this be possible, or do i need to change the intarnal URL on all virtual directories on the old server to the local netbios name or what to do?

You should never use the server name in any of the URLs.  You should use either a CNAME or a load-balanced VIP with a generic name like mail.company.com or webmail.company.com.  Then you just point this name to the new server.  If
you're currently using a server name, it's about time to change that first before trying to switch to Exchange 2013.
Curently im using a generic name, mail.test.com. But that's just a normal A record on the internal DNS. So i cannot use that on both?

  • Migrating from Exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 ( special case )

    Hello ,
what is the BEST scenario ( fastest , most efficient , most secure in terms of data loss )  , to migrate from exchange 2007 ( one server , all exchange roles installed on this server , 1200 mailbox ) , to exchange 2013 ?
knowing my environment needs to be connected to their mailboxes , 24/7 !
    it's very frustrating .
and i have no clue even if this is the right place to post about this , if not please refer me as to where to post .
Also , All my domain controllers are 2008 .

It's fine to post your question here, and you are fine with Server 2008 Domain Controllers - that is a supported scenario.
If you haven't performed such an upgrade and you need to have 24/7 mailbox availability, I would seriously recommend you to duplicate the production environment on a test network and run through the upgrade at least once.
Most people neglect the Outlook clients requirements - they need to be updated and include several specific updates, which allow the automatic reconfiguration of internal clients. If you are preparing for this upgrade, you should be aware that all internal
Outlook clients switch to Outlook Anywhere. Clients that miss these updates will get connectivity problems.
Another common problem is the configuration of the Exchange URL - I mean the Exchange 2013 URL and the modified Exchange 2007 URL that will allow the co-existence. In your case, you definitely need to plan for co-existence - that includes requesting and
installing a new Exchange UCC (Multiple Domain Certificate) on both Exchange servers, configuring Split DNS (or preferably PinPoint DNS zones), and correct timing when replacing the existing Certificate on the Exchange 2007 server. Failure to configure the
correct URL (and it's quite easy to miss one, so triple check them) will get you in trouble.
Once you get through the switchover (switching the mail flow and Client Access through the Exchange 2013 server), move just a couple of test mailboxes and check the result.
Finally, if you are moving the Public Folders, make sure that the lock is really applied before you complete the process. Most people proceed right away and that get's the process stuck. If you can afford it (the mailboxes are already on the Exchange 2013
server at that point), just restart the Exchange 2007 server (after locking the Public Folders) and then complete the Public Folder migration.
    Good Luck with the project!

  • Migration from enterprise to HFM

    Hi
Can anyone help me with a migration from enterprise to HFM ?
I am looking at a complete migration.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
I would also like some proper documentation .If you do have one please forward to [email protected]
Edited by: rtk on Sep 25, 2009 4:33 AM

A full migration includes a lot of steps, including redefining mapping tables for all of the entities that load data in Enterprise, if you are using ledger link you have to rebuild them in FDM, define the amount of historical data being moved over, defining Metadata structure for information that is not currently on Enterprise (What information will you carry on your Custom Dimensions. Rethink the way reports are being used and rebuild all of those that are necessary, investigate if there are any retrieve files that are necessary to convert into smartview format.
The list goes on and on. If you don't have any experience, you are better off by hiring a consulting firm. Titan Pinnacle comes to mind. :)

  • Migrating from 8.1.7 to 9.2 with different character set

Are there going to be issues when I try to migrate from 8.1.7 to 9.2 where the character set in the 8i database was the default western european to utf8 in 9i?
I ran the 8i scan utility to see if there would be issues importing into an 8i db with a different char set and it said that there would.

    Hi Jim,
As your first step, I would recommend reading the white paper Character Set Migration Best Practices for Oracle9i on the Globalization Support Home page - http://otn.oracle.com/tech/globalization/index.html
Since you mentioned that CSSCAN has already reported there are potential issues (I guess you have exceptional/Lossy data ?), I would strongly recommend splitting up the UTF8 character set change and the database version upgrade into 2 distant phrases. Probably moving to UTF8 in 8.1.7 first, then upgrading to 9.2 later.
BTW, there is a separate Globlization Support and NLS discussion forum on OTN for further discussion on character set related issues.

  • Migrating from IBM-Hyperion solution to Hyperion solution

Hi,<BR><BR>in our production system there is IBM-Hyperion solution, but we need to migrate to Hyperion only solution, because IBM has decided that will no more support IBM-Hyperion solution. But looking to web page <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://dev.hyperion.com/products/">http://dev.hyperion.com/products/</a> I am little of confused there are two lines of products: "Hyperion System 9 Products" and "Other Available Products". What should be appropriate migration path? Should we migrate to "other available products" list or to "Hyperion System 9"? What is the main difference between theres two?<BR><BR>My production system:<BR>- Intel server (2 CPU using hyperthreating technology - so Windows see 4 CPUs)<BR>- Windows 2003<BR>- Analytic server (Essbase) 7.1.0 (this is equal to IBM DB2 OLAP Server 8.2)<BR>- Analyzer server 7.0.19.01830 (this is equal to IBM DB2 OLAP Analyzer server 8.1)<BR>- DB2 for Windows v8.2 (database server)<BR>- Java JRE 1.3.1_09 on clients computers <BR><BR>Thanks,<BR>Grofaty

Hello grofaty,<BR><BR>please find my answers below your questions:<BR><BR>"is there possible to migrate from IBM to Hyperion to both lines of products 7 and system 9?"<BR>- You have to check the hyperion website to exactly know which IBM version and therin the Hyperion version can be migrated to the official Hyperion version. They always told us that the IBM version is very similar to the Hyperion version but in one case Hyperion was not able to reproduce our Analyzer problem because they hadn't had the IBM code in their support laboratory. Therefore it makes sense to bind Hyperion over to make a proof of concept for the migration. (E.g. we had problems with rule-files' language setting on WAS, we migrated them via Tomcat on a notebook to WAS on our test system!).<BR><BR>"Is there a migration process between 7 and system 9 in "Essabse server" and "Analyzer server"?"<BR>- If you like we can exchange our experience which is a collection of consulting know-how and our own experience.<BR><BR><BR>"Why does Hyperion sells two products lines (system 9 and 'other available products'? Are there huge differences? Can this products be easy of migrating from one to another?"<BR>-As far as I know/read there are differences in the license model because system 9 is rebundled in comparison with 7 and you buy more products than in 7 = ergo the price is higher!<BR>You can first buy named licenses for e.g Essbase 7 and then buy an upgrade to Essbase System 9 (e.g in system 9 Essbase is split into ASO and BSO products!!!)<BR>...ask your sales rep. from Hyperion and compare with other companies about special agreements to have a better bargaining position.<BR><BR>bye<BR><BR>knightrich<BR><BR>

But you should consider implementing your Renderers only using the API and not extending the com.sun.faces.* implementation classes, or you might end up changing your code again on your next jsf updates.Hm, good thinking. I didn't think about the split between the API and the implementation.
OT question on that subject: is it really good design to have that split? JSF, JAXB, JAX-WS, even CDI has an API and an implementation part to it. But do we really need that? In the case of JSF, you have Mojarra and Myfaces (and some other obscure JSF implementation I believe). But why would you use Myfaces over Mojarra since they both solve the same problem and are both actively developed? Why do we have to deal with API/implementation conflict hell that you can often find when using JAXB, especially in a Mavenized environment? We have Weld as the implementation for CDI. What would move anyone to make a 'competing' implementation of it?
For something like JPA I can at least understand it; the persistence providers were already there before JPA saw the light of day. There was no need for Sun to create a competing implementation, so they provided the API in stead. But in all other cases... I just don't get it.

  • Continuing migration from Avid to Premiere Pro.  How 'bout these functions..?

    Hi folks,
Thanks for the continuing wisdom of this group as I continue migrating from an Avid system to Premiere.  These are some workflow questions and Premiere may or may not have equivalent functions - but it doesn't hurt to ask.  These are things I got used to in my workflow.  I can learn a different workflow in Premiere but first I'm looking for the simiarities and differences.  Unfortunately these functions are often called different things between products, making them hard to look up.
       1) "Mark clip."  In the Avid, park your CTI anywhere within a clip in the timeline.  With a given track active, hit "mark clip."  In one keypress or mouse click this sets an In Point at beginning of that clip's appearance in the sequence and an Out Point at the end without having to go find the boundaries manually.
       2) "Match frame."  Park the CTI in the sequence with a track active, hit Match Frame and the source clip will come up in the source window, cued to the same frame you're parked on in the sequence.
       3) "Find bin."  If the sequence monitor is active this will highlight the sequence in the project window, showing what folder it's in.  If the source monitor is active it will instead highlight the clip that's currently loaded as source.
       4) "Remove edit."  Say you previously used the knife (Avid would call it "add edit") to split a clip in the sequence.  Now, a number of edits later, you don't need the split there anymore.  In the Avid, you click on the seam between them and hit the delete key.  The Avid will recognize if these are contiguous points in the same clip and eliminate the cut, joining the clip back together seamlessly.  If it's anything else, hitting delete will have no effect.
       5) In the color correction effect, you can correct several (potentially large numbers of) clips simultaneously.  If you set in and out points, for instance, you can correct all the clips between them identically with all the adjustments being made automatically as you make them on one clip.  Or you can identify clips as all coming from the same camera and the correction will apply to every clip in the sequence attributed to that camera (very useful for multicamera projects).
I'd appreciate any insight into how Premiere deals with some of these.
    Thanks!
    Pete

Colin - thanks for the info - very helpful.
Todd - thanks for pointing me to the additional resources.
It's amazing how a product bundled into a suite for just a couple thousand bucks does virtually everything I paid over $100,000 for just a few years ago (and some things that product line doesn't!).
I do have two follow-up questions.
       1) What do you consider the BEST resource for getting your arms completely around how to get the most mileage out of the suite functionality, i.e, dynamic linking between applications, bouncing between Premiere, AE, etc.?  (I don't mind paying for some books or self-help resources but I'd love to know what you've had good experiences with).
       2) The Avid has an export option called a Reference file.  This exported file looks to other applications like a Quicktime or AVI file, depending on how you set it up, but it's really a set of pointers to the original media that make up the sequence.  So if you're using, for instance, a high-end software encoder for DVD (we use Cinemacraft, which I think does a better job than the built-in Adobe encoder), you don't need to export your entire sequence to another file and THEN bring that in to the DVD encoder.  You export a reference file which is a few hundred kilobytes.  Does anything like this exist in Premiere?
    Thanks again,

Now I have stopped using my MacBookPro (Leopard only OS no upgrade to Lion) my wife wants it as her machine instead of having an account on my MacPro.
So, how does one go about splitting off an account onto another machine so all her emails and settings go over to the MacBookPro. Once I have done it then I can delete her account from the MacPro and mine from the MacBookPro. At the moment her account on the MacPro and her account on the MacBookPro bear little resemblence - her mail is didfferent (all the mail boxes are completely different and her rules, well.... etc.) her address Book is not the same despite trying to keep it in Sync.
I wondered about wiping the MacBookPro and migrating from the MacPro the deleting the appropriate accounts (hers on mine and mine on hers) but it seems fraught with danger going backwards...
    Any pointers appreciated.

You put her account on her machine, when it is done you take it off yours, as you have given no information about the account I can't offer more detailed help.
