Hi,
Has anyone migrated from sqlserver to sybase ase? is this feasible.Thanks.

Hi Ambarish,
Migration to Sybase ASE is very much feasible. Refer following SAP notes which will be useful.

    Hello
I need to know where can I find information on migrating database from
SQL to Oracle - 9i on Linux.
Are there any tools available for this.

    Prakash,
At the moment we recommend running the Oracle Migration Workbench on Microsoft Windows and connecting to the Oracle 9i server by Oracle networking (sql*net). We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause. The released Oracle Migration Workbench for linux is an old version and the current version on Microsoft Windows is much improved. I am not clear what you mean by SQL, the workbench supports migration from products by Sybase, Microsoft, Informix, IBM and MySQL, see the support and plugin download web pages for database product names and version numbers, of the databases to be migrated from.
    I hope that helps,

  • Migration from SYBASE IQ to SYBASE ASE 11/12 and then to ORACLE 10G

    Hi ,
The OWMB tool does not support migration of SYBASE IQ to ORACLE.So there should be some tool to migrate this SYBASE IQ to SYBASE ASE 11/12.And then which we can migrate to ORACLE which the OMWB supports.Does anybody have any idea about such tool(SYBASE IQ to SYBASE ASE 11/12).
    Thanks With Regards,

    Vinoth,
That's correct. However Sybase IQ is normally associated with Data Warehouses. Have you investigated the suitability of using Oracle Warehouse builder to assist with such a migration?

  • Migrating from Sybase Anywhere to ASE

I am in process of migrating from Sybase Anywhere to ASE and trying to import a table from Anywhere to ASE, I getting following error message that could not find appropriate data type for column - now this column from Anywhere has data type of datetime.

ASE does not have any wizards so you must be using some sort of GUI/tool/application.
What GUI/tool/application are you using? PowerDesigner? Sybase Central? Sybase Control Center? Something else?
Can you *connect* to the ASA and ASE instances with this GUI/tool/application? [Forget the 'import' operation for the moment ... and verify you can just *connect* to both ASA and ASE.]
Also, what is the actual/complete error message?
NOTE: I don't use GUI/tools so depending on the error there may not be much more I can assist with.

  • Data migration from ASE 11.9.2 to 16.0

    Hi all,
I'm at a customer site running Sybase ASE 11.9.2 on Windows 2000. I wish to migrate their set of databases to ASE 15.7 or 16.0 hosted on Server 2012 (for obvious reasons). I've downloaded and installed ASE 16.0 developer edition on a new Windows 2012 virtual server and and am moving to the database migration stage....
From what I have read, a single step migration from 11.9.2 to 15.7 is possible, thus I assume a migration to 16.0 might also be possible.
    What I have done:
    i) Dumped the existing database and transaction logs from ASE 11.9.2 to some files on disk.
ii) Created a datastore for data and logs and created a database with 'load on' the ASE 16.0 environment
iii) loaded a 11.9.2 database and transaction logs into the blank database on ASE 16.0 environment (successful)
iv) run an 'online database DBNAME' (failing)
From what I have read, schema conversion etc. occurs during the online database action, not the initial load. This is the error i'm getting:
    1> online database Cust201213
    2> go

As the database is not online of ASE 16.0 i've been unable to conduct must troubleshooting on that version, so I have cloned a copy of the database on the 11.9.2 instance instead to work on the 644 error.
From the error I assume that the sysindexes system table is corrupt. I've read various forum entries that talk about running a dbcc reindex etc. however the Sybase knowledge base states that such a command cannot be run on the sysindexes table.
Can anyone give me some advice on rebuilding a corrupt sysindexes table please. Go easy on me; I've only been exposed to Sybase ASE for 2 days so i'm learning .

    Hi Brad,
Banging my head against a brick wall here. Constructing an ASE 12.5.4 environment on a server 2012 VM (likely not supported) is proving challenging. It half works in XP compatibility mode but java is not happy.... To get a 12.5.4 staging environment working properly I would need to build a windows server 2003 VM and a windows XP client, get the ODBC drivers working properly etc. and test it. Software of this age is extremely hard to track down and license (particularly without an up to date support agreement with SAP)...
I am working on an option that is looking positive so far, though it's the last thing I wanted to do.... namely migrate the data from Sybase 11.9.2 to SQL server 2012. The SQL Server migration tool does support this early version of Sybase, and fortunately the 9 databases I need to convert are not too big or too complex so i'm cautiously optimistic. Analysis and dry-runs to date suggests this may be the least painful solution. Keen to rip the data out of this ancient environment before it dies.
Thanks for you help. This just demonstrates the folly of running a production system in a 16 year old environment; all good fun.

  • OMW supports sybase ASE 15 to Oracle 10g migration?

    Hi,
I want to migrate data from Sybase ASE 15 to Oracle 10g. Can i use OMW for this purpose if not then what is the other way of doing it?
    Kind regards

No, not the current workbench. We will be bringing out support for Sybase 15 in SQL Developer at the next release.
You could try bringing the db down to 12 if that was an option and then migrate from that.

  • Migrating from Sybase 11.9

Is there an Oracle tool still available for migrating Sybase release 11.9 databases to Oracle? I can't seem to find anything on the Oracle website.
    Thank you,
    Steve

SQL Developer migration is the latest migration tool Oracle offers to mograte foreign databases to Oracle. Unformtunately it does not cover Sybase ASE 11.9 database releases according to the manual:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/pdf/migrationdatasheet_15.pdf
To migrate a Sybase 11 ASE you might think about using the old Migration Workbench utility:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/migration/workbench/index.html
The Sybase 11 plugin has been removed from the list of available resources, but it is still available on the download server:
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/omwb/101040/Sybase11.jar
In addition I've notified develoment if they could implement again a link on the OMWB download page fro the Sybase 11 plugin.
So you need to get from the Oracle Migration Workbench download URL the common file of OMWB:
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/nt/omwb/101040/omwb.zip
Extract this ZIP file into a directory of your choice.
The plugin (make sure you save the file as it is - as a JAR file) into the OMWB Plugin directory and then get from Sybase te jdbc driver jconn2.jar and put the JDBC driver in
    to the OMWB\drivers directory.

  • Migrate Sybase ASE 15 to Oracle 9i

    Hi!
Are there any plans to support migration from Sybase ASE 15.x to Oracle (in my case it would be Oracle 9i) ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
At the moment our current focus is the redevelopment of the Oracle Migration Workbench as an extension to SQL Developer. We have published our statement of direction here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/migrationtoolsstatementofdirection.htm
Once this is completed, I would expect Sybase to be the next database we would upgrade to this new tool and we would deal with Sybase 15.x as part of this. Sorry, no dates for this yet.
Adventent tool, does support this now

  • Using SLT for migration (Sybase ASE(15.7) to MS SQL server 2014)

    Hi,
Is it possible to use SLT for data migration (Active-Active replication) from Sybase ASE (15.7) to MS SQL Server (2014) ?
I want to use a separate host to do this migration, if possible.
    Viral Dave

    Hi Viral,
What do you mean the SLT for data migration? Do you want to use Sybase ASE as the source system, and MSSQL as the target system? If yes, I think it is possible.

  • Sybase ASE 11.9 to SQL Server 2012/2014 Data Migration

I am given a task of migrating the Sybase ASE 11.9 server databases to SQL Server 2012/2014.
We have Sybase server installed on Windows server 2000.
We are going to setup a SQL Server 2012 on another server machine.
We are planning the migration using SSMA Version 6.0.
    My questions are as below:
    1. Do i need to install the SSMA Sybase Client tool on both the servers?
    2. The database is quite huge, so they want us to perform the migration on a Copy of Sybase database. Is it possible?
Also please let me know what are the requirements for all this process so we can take care of it before doing actual migration.

    Hi Lydia ,
Thanks a lot for making it clear to me.
So as per my understanding i will install both the client
application of SSMA for Sybase and the
Server extension pack on Windows Server 2012.
So, if i can access the Sybase Server from Windows Server 2012(Sql Server Destination) then no
need to install the client application of SSMA for Sybase on Windows Server 2000(Sybase
    Source).
    Thanks

  • Migration from Sybase 11.9.1 to Oracle 7.3.4

Does the Oracle Migration Workbench 1.2.2 support database migration from Sybase 11.9.1 to Oracle 7.3.4?
If not, is there any work-around or any other tool? Can we still use Migration Workbench for this migration?
    Thanks.

It is probably best to use the latest version of the workbench (1.2.5.0.0). Migration to 7.3 is not supported but should work except for the newer features, for example use long instead of blob and clob, and do not use 8i temporary tables.
