Migration from XI R2 to Xi R3 and new server box

Hi,
We are planning to migrate to a new server and on that new server, we will install BO XI R3. We have the following issues:
1. All our users have bookmarked the XI R2 address in their browser. How can we transparently forward them to the new server. Can we do it with DNS forwarding?
2. Even we can forward to the XI R3 login page, but how can we keep running our existing Xcelsius Dashboards. The Xcelsius dashboards get refreshed using live office and the live office model points to XI R2 reports. Do we need to update the model for each of the dashboards to point to the new server?
Please let us know if anyone has any suggestion/experience.
Regards,
Tanveer.

My suggestion/experience is you will want to have access to both XIR2 and 3.0 during the migration.
A migration is one of the more complicated tasks and there could be unforseen obstacles.
In theory you should be able to migrate most or all of your XIR2 to 3.0 and then give out a new link to allow others to test. At the same time you leave XIR2 and the old links available in case issues arise you will have a backup.
Live office should be able to be redirected to 3.0 there is a legacy support built in for this (dswsbobje).
The final goal of course is to migrate everything to 3.0 and stop using the XIR2
There are many consultants both within BO/and 3rd party that can help plan a migration.
You should also have the support of the BO deployment team if migration issues should arrise.

Tim

  • Migration from 10.5.8 in PPC to new server on 10.6.x

    Hi,
Currently running 10.5.8 server on a ppc Mac. Looking, at moving to 10.6.x which will thus require new hardware.
Problem is the existing server has a valid externally signed SSL cert. for Web and email and is the domain master for the OD.
If this was a desktop I'd boot the existing box up in target mode and then migrate then upgrade, but I get the feeling the cert. and the Open Directory suff is going to really object to that.
Anyone go any thoughts on how easy this is going to be? I'm guessing new cert. will be required, then moving the clients to new mail server......

To start programming, you can use Mac OS X 10.5.8 and an old Xcode version if you don't want to upgrade now. With this, you will get a first look into the OS X and iPhone OS environment.
However, respecting to iOS programming, I recommend you to upgrade to, at least, Mountain Lion if you can. OS X Mountain Lion needs a Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook or an Early 2009 MacBook, so if you haven't got one of them, you can't upgrade to Mountain Lion.
First, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard# Make a backup of your files, insert the DVD and upgrade. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install 10.6.8.
Now, if you want, you can upgrade to Lion, if your computer isn't compatible with Mountain Lion. Lion will allow you to use the most recent Xcode version, so you can have a look at programming for the most recent iOS version, which is really useful because you can learn how to create apps for the new iOS 6 features, and if you are a registered developer, you can get access to iOS 7 beta and prepare your apps

  • HT4796 How can I take the files that were migrated from my PC to my Mac and add all those files to my current user instead of having 2 users?

How can I take the files that were migrated from my PC to my Mac and add all those files to my current user instead of having 2 users? Having to log out just to sign in on a different user to access the files is absurd.
Do I make all the files sharable to all the NOW users on the mac then just delete the files? Or can i erase my account that I made when starting up my new mac and then just use the one with the transferred files?
I just dont want to have to og in and out of 2 different accounts .. Help please.
    -Nina

Sorry. /Users is a folder path. It would be similar to C:\Users (if that exists on Windows).
So, in the Finder, select Computer from the Go menu.
You'll see Macintosh HD, double-click that to open it.
In there you'll see several folders. One is Users. That is where all the user Home folders exist. Select the other account's home folder and go to step 3.
If you have any more confusion, please stop and ask. We'll get there.
If you feel more comfortable, you can just log into that other account and move the files into /Users/Shared.
Then, log into the account you wish to use and copy the files from the Shared folder and paste them into your Home folder, wherever they belong, Documents, Music, Pictures, etc.  That just takes a little more work. Transferring them into Shared, and then copying into your home sets the permissions on the files so that you won't have a problem accessing them later. The steps I provided just prevent you from having to do the double move, since you are not going to use the old account once you are done.
Quick unix shorthand. If someone gives you a file path that begins with a /, that means the root of the hard drive, ie Macintosh HD (if you haven't renamed it). The path separator in unix is /, not \.
A path that starts with ~/ means your Home folder, the one inside /Users named with your account name.

can I interrupt a migration from Mac Book Pro to iMac and what are the consequences

    Les:
    Here are some options:
    • You could copy the data file to your laptop, work on it, and update the file on the iMac when you are back.
    • You can use an application like Log Me In to access your home computer from your laptop.
    • You can use DropBox. Install it on both computers, place your data file in a folder on the iMac, access it and work on it on your laptop and it will be automatically updated on your computer at home, even if it is not turned on, as soon as it is connected to the internet.
Please do post back with further questions or comments.

Since migrating from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and upgrading to iTunes 11, the latter has frozen while syncing my devices, usually while at the “determining apps to sync” stage of the process.  If I am attempting to download app updates before attempting to sync, the problem normally occurs at the first “installing app x” stage.  In addition, the whole iTunes experience is extremely sluggish and will even freeze while searching for a track.  Everything worked fine on Windows 7.  So far, I have repaired the program several times and have checked for compatibility issues, but there is no Windows 8 option in the combo box, obtained after right-clicking the icon and selecting Properties/Compatibility.  As a result, I am unable to sync my devices. If I uninstall iTunes before re-installing, will this affect my iTunes libraries?  Does anyone have any suggestions?

After going by elimination to isolate if the problem was from (1) iTunes app, (2) my computer or (3) my old iPhone 4G, I figured out what my problem was.
    1) First I deleted & reinstalled iTunes on my Windows PC without succes, my playlist did not changed on my iPhone.
    2) I tested a successful #sync from the iMac at work.
So my conclusion is: The hard drive on my Windows PC is full and that is affecting iTunes SYNC functionalities.
So I'll do a back-up then run a "Clean Install" of my Windows OS, hoping that it will fix my SYNC problems.

What cable do I need for a full migration from a 2011 MacBook Pro to a new current one-wireless migration way too slow.?

All you need is an Ethernet cable.
Just plug it into both machines. Don't bother with a crossover cable, just a plain old Ethernet cable will do. The Ethernet ports on the Macs are smart and will adjust appropriately.

  • How best to migrate from MacPro to iMac w/ SSD and extrenal drives

Currently I have a MacPro with 4 drives - 3 1TB and 1 2Tb, the 2TB drive is my main hard drive, so it has system, apps, documents, itunes etc....and it has been upgraded and migrated from one computer to the next as long as apple has had the ability to do so (and before that by moving over targeted drive manually). I currently am running 10.6.8 on the machine. I have ordered a new iMac w/ an internal 512gb SSD drive, and after speaking with an Apple rep, I got a THunderbolt enclosure to house my current 4 hard drives. Now my question is how best to get my preferences etc into the new computer w/o dragging along all the old stuff...(ie old apps not compatible w/ Mountain Lion, old system folders, etc). Here is what I would like to do:
    1. setup SSD with OS, fresh installs of Apps, and my fonts (i am a designer and i have a gazillion fonts and they always take way to long to load into my font app).
    2. I would like my 2TB drive to eventually just include my home directory where all my files, and such will be stored. But I would like to keep the drive as is to make sure everything is working just in case, I dont want to have any down time during the upgrade process (ie if a client calls me and needs something while I am still setting up I could boot off the 2tb drive and work). But after all is working properly then I would like to make it just the home directory and main place for all files etc
    3. My remaining 3 drives are broken up for manual backups of my work on 2 of the drives, and then photos and mp3s on one, and movies and tv shows from itunes on the other. I dont currently run Time Machine or Retrospect or RAID....
I see most people saying to create 2 admin accounts, one that would stay on the SSD drive and the other which could be mapped to the 2TB drive and have its home directory there...but what do I do about moving preferences etc? is there a way when setting up that will let me import my current account and let me keep it on the external drive as is? should i move the files that i want to keep off the 2tb drive, wipe it to get rid of the old apps and system and then put back the home directory??I don't want to run into trouble with permissions, and I really dont even want to create 2 accounts because I hate having to close everything and log out for simple installs and updates...i have 2 on my macbook pro now and i run into errors all the time of i cant update this or that because of admin account...even though both accounts are set as admin.
I want to keep the whole upgrade simple, but I would like to keep this fresh system clean as  am sure there is way to much left over garbage from upgrades past. So just not sure how best to do any of it.....

I purchased the DataTale RS-M4t SMART 4-Bay Thunderbolt RAID storage enclosure. But it can do both RAID if you get their data manager software download, or it can just mount the drives and be used normally. So basically I can plug all 4 of my current drives into it...and it into my iMac and it will be same as if I had it in my tower....so really not moving over a ton of stuff. I will load all apps fresh onto the brand new iMac - so the SSD will be a clean install...my worries are trying to get access to home directories etc on the current main drive and have things get setup correctly, keychains, bookmarks, etc...as well as my iTunes which has iPad and iPhone backups, etc. I am just not sure as how to best setup the SSD to get the most of its speed while being able to get my current account working but on the second external drive.

  • Migrating from BE5k to CUCM 9.1 and Unity Connection 9.1 (not BE6k)

    Hello,
We are starting to embark down the road of migrating from our BE5k system, to separated CUCM and Unity 9.1 systems on UCS Blades running ESXi.  I was wondering if there might be some documentation already existing on how we might accomplish this.  I have done upgrades in the past, and I'm sure there's a COP file or 3 that I need to install to make it all work properly.  I searched the Cisco site for such documents, but couldn't really find anything specific.
We'll also be migrating our Cisco Presence from the old MCS platform to the UCS ESXi setup as well.
    Thanks for the help.
    Cheers,
    Mark

    Thanks George,
That's the documentation for migrating to BE6k.  We are breaking away from the BE platform and doing full installs for CUCM and CUC.  Does the same article apply?
I suspected that the Presence would be that simple, but just wanted to make sure.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • MIGRATE FROM A POWER PC G5 TO A NEW IMAC - PROGRAMS & FILE - POSSIBLE?

I recall when I migrated from a Windows machine to a MAC years back I was able to move programs & files via (probably at that time) USB.
I want to buy a new IMAC & move everything from a 4 year old Power PC G5 without having to reinstall all programs &/or manually drag & drop files.
    Is this posisble?
I do have a LaCie HardDrive & have been using SuperDuper to back up everything since I had problems with ths machine months ago but I do admit I have cut down on this as I have over 700,000 files and the backups take hours & really slow machine down. Plus I notice the LaCie drive turns on even when it is not set up to do a back-up.
But mostly want to know fastest way to get everything form one machine to a new one.
There's software I have downloaded or can't find.
    Thanks.

You can use Migration Assistant which will come with your new machine, or you can use an ethernet cable and drag and drop what you need, or you can reverse clone from your SuperDuper backup.

  • Migration from 10.4.11 to 10.5.1 Server

I just upgraded a OD Master from 10.4.11 to 10.5.1 everything was installed and did a reboot.
After the reboot it was hang at license screen where you need to enter the serial number to upgrade the server. I did a restart and after entering serial number the server was not "UPGRADED" it ask me to setup new server. I choose standalone and IP and services was up except for ker and ldap was not running. I did a repair permission and restart now the server is working as i can ssh in but i am struck at a blue screen after entering root and password.
    Please help

Since you can ssh in, look at the /var/log/system.log for problems.
Kerberos and LDAP may not be running because of DNS problems. Did you use the same IP address and hostname as before the upgrade?
Since LDAP is not running, is there any local user accounts you can use to access the server through the GUI?

  • Migrating CA but CA role was already on new server. Whats the worst that can happen?

Here's a little background for this migration.
Old environment was SBS 2008. Everything baked into one server.
New environment we are migrating to is Server 2012 R2. Will have 8 different 2012 r2 VMs varied by roles. Since this is a small network we are putting the CA on the DC (Called NewDC1).
NewDC1 was configured to mirror the old servers Active Directory, etc. BUT NewDC1 when installed was given the AD CS role as well. From everything I've read it says to backup all settings on the old CA, decommission the old server then install the ADCS
role on the new one and restore the backed up files.
BUT since we already have the ADCS role on the new DC. Should I go ahead and uninstall it. Proceed with the steps to backup and uninstall the exchange server role on the old(not decommission the server since we still need it up to decommission the dc correctly).
Then re-install the role on the new server? Also what issue would you run into with the server not being the same name since that's not even a option?

Is the role installed and ADCS configured as a CA on the new server? In 2012, the role install and configuration process are broken into two separate phases. So if its just installed and not configured, then there's no issue. If however its already been
configured as a CA and it has issued certificates, then anything you have issued from it will be invalidated after the migration.
For the migration itself, since you are renaming the computer that the CA is running on you DEFINITELY want to review the migration process - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee126170(v=WS.10).aspx. There are several steps you will need to
perform otherwise the CA will not work properly on the destination server.
Lastly, it is NEVER recommended to put the CA on a DC. Too hard to migrate or manage the domain, let alone security issues. I would recommend putting it on a dedicated member server, or if you must, at least one that isnt a DC.
