Migration Informix/Solaris to Oracle/Solaris

Hi,
which way to migrate from Informix 9.2 for Sun Solaris to Oracle9 for Sun Solaris is the best one? As I understood Migration Workbench is used only for Oracle for Windows.
Regards, Vitaly

Hello,
Thanks for the reply... I have already checked the note...
I have checked the parameter max_file_size which is 2TB...
No Restriction on Solaris 5.9 and Oracle...
What other information do you need....
Thanks,
RaHuL...

  • Migrate Informix 11 to Oracle 11g

    Hi,
Are there any Oracle or third-party tools to assist with the migration of a database from Informix 11 to Oracle 11g? All the stuff I've found seems to stop at Informix 9.
    Thanks
       Brian

    Hi Brian,
If your management do not want to pay for Dg4Informix then you could use the Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) which is included in your RDBMS license but needs a third-party ODBC driver.  It has less functionality than the DG4Informix but can be used for simple processing.
    See the following -

  • Migration Informix 7.3- Oracle 10g r2, no FK constraints

    I have this configuration:
    Latest version of OMWB.
    ** Workbench Repository : Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
    Repository Connection URL: jdbc:oracle:thin:@172.xx.xx.xx:1521:somesid
** The following plugins are installed:
** Informix Dynamic Server 7.3 Plugin, Developers Release 10.1.0.4.0
** Informix Dynamic Server 9.x Plugin, Production Release 10.1.0.4.0
    ** Active Plugin : Informix7
I migrated all tables and data, but... foreign key constraints ARE NOT migrated. This option was selected on appropriate panel, so there shoud not be any problem.
At the end of migration proces there were these several errors in the log:
Migrating Failed to connect to /@172.xx.xx.xx:1521:somesid. Check the password in the user's Creation Options in the Oracle Model to make sure it is correct.
Passwords are OK. Data is migrated.
Is this error connected with "FK constraints missing" problem or not?
Any idea what to do with these constraints or "Failed to connect" error?
    Noaid

I assume you see the FKs in the source model of OMWB under a certain user and if you now check out the Oracle model in OMWB this dedicated user misses the FK's, correct?
To see if the problem is related to the password error, you could perform the offline source model migration.
Run the script IDS7_DSML_SCRIPT.BAT/DS7_DSML_SCRIPT.sh located in Omwb\offline_capture\Informix7 on the Informix server as informix user. You'll get 2 directories conatining some DAT files. Then zip both directories and transfer them to the OMWB machine, unzip them into the same directory again and open OMWB and perfrom an offline source model migration by refering to the directories of the DAT files.
If the FK's are still missing, log a service request and upload the ZIP files to the sevrice request.

  • Migrating Informix databases to Oracle

Hi, I am new to Oracle so apologies if this is a basic question.
I have Informix set up on a Unix system, which consists of several databases, within Informix the databases are truly relational, i.e I can perform sql queries across rwo databases at the same time.
From what I understand with Oracle, you can only have one database per instance? is this correct?

People who come from another rdbms usually have a different concept between database and schema and instance. In Oracle a database, a single database can contain multiple schemas (independent collections of objects belonging to one user). You can have as many databases per host as the host is able to handle according to its capacity. A database is open by one Oracle instance (mutiple instances can open the same database only in RAC mode).
Oracle can query remote databases by means of database links. In this case the schemas can be queried by granting proper privileges to the users.
For further introductory concepts I suggest you to read this reference:

  • Migrate solaris 8 oracle applications to solaris 10 using oracle vm

    Hi,
I have Oracle Applications 11.5.8 running on Solaris 8 on SPARC machine (the forms and concurrent servers) and Linux SLES9 for the Oracle 9i database server.
I am exploring if it's possible to migrate the forms and concurrent tier from Solaris 8 on SPARC to a Solaris 10 Oracle VM running on x86 platform. That is, 1) install Oracle VM on x86 platform 2) install solaris 10 on the solaris container of this VM (solaris 8 not supported) 3) try to move forms and concurrent application tier to this solaris 10.
Has anyone tried this before or know whether it can be done?

  • Migration Oracle 8.17 from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10

Is it possible to migrate Oracle 8.1.7 from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10? I find out the papers or the practices from internet that were done before. Do you have any documents said that or gurantee success?

    Perhaps contact Oracle.
    http://www.oracle.com
Maybe they will know how to make version 8.1.7 work with newer
    distributions of various OS's.
After all, it is their product, not Sun's product.

I want to know any technical doucument or metalink tech note regarding this migration.current OS

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I understand that the OP want to migrate from one server to another, and he is not going to upgrade the OS on the same machine.
If an OS upgrade will be implemented, then there is no need to use Rapid Clone or backup/restore the files, instead refer to this thread.

  • MIgration from physical servers to Oracle Solaris Containers

We are in process of migrating our Oracle Databases from a physical SUN SPARC servers to Oracle Solaris Container.
Do we need to any extra setting in the Oracle side or server side in a virtualized environment to run Oracle databases?
Any comment will be of help.
    Thanks
    Abdul

Oracle databases work fine in zones.
Some planing is required to find out if you need to use dedicated cpus or other resource management options.
Use projects to set the appropriate memory settings.
Depending on the versions of the databases the installer may choke and complain about missing entries in /etc/system (like shminfo_shmmax) but they can be safely ignored.

    Hi Bhaskar,
I would run the Migration assistant first and see what happens.
It is quite fast, so you should know pretty quickly if there are
    any major glitches.

  • Migration from AIX Oracle8i to Solaris Oracle8i?

    Hi,
I wonder how to migrate Oracle 8i (8.1.7) on AIX to Oracle
    8i (8.1.7) on Solaris?
The Oracle version is the same, but only the O.S platform is
different. I have found the migration information from Oracle
web site but it only talks about migration between different
    database.
    Thanks.

    > In our organisation, we are planning to migrate from AIX6.1 to Solaris x64. The processor which we'll be using is UltraSPARC+IV processor.
Well - I think you're mixing a few things up here.
Solaris x64 refers to Solaris on the Intel or the AMD processor (x64 == x86_64 == AMD64)
UltraSPARC IV+ refers to a CPU developed by Sun (now Oracle).
    > 1. Which guide to refer for moving the SAP System from AIX6.1 to Solaris
There are no specific guides for OS migrations. You use the heterogeneous system copy approach. However, migrating a database and/or operating system requires a certified migration consultant on-site doing the migration. If you do it yourself you'll loose support from SAP for problems during the migration and for the target system (see http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration).
    > 2. Is UltraSPARC+IV processor is supported for Oracle 10g
Yes. Solaris 10 on SPARC Is supported.

How can I solve this error?Cannot I install SAP 4.7 SR1 on Solaris 10 - ORacle 9.2.0.7?Is the problem about SAP profile parameters or Solaris Kernel parameters

  • Solaris 8 to Solaris 10 upgrade for oracle 11i

    Hi
Need to upgrade my 11i (11.5.9) apps from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10
It will also be a 32 bit to 64 bit conversion
Has anyone done this before. or can specify the any major obstacles.
    Thanks

    Dear Bansi
I did something similar on HP-UX but you can mainly follow this
1- Check Certification matrix against Solaris 10
2- Install 64 bit engine of 9iR2 using 9iR2 CD's without creation of a database
3- Patch the engine with the same patch level your database on it [9.2.0.3 is standard DB level for 11.5.9 CD's ] If you want to update this level than the existing to be latest [ie 9.2.0.6 check notes and certification matrix] you should do this step after next step
4- Attach your 11.5.9 database to that engine
5- Copy configurations files from old engine to the new engine [appsutil]
6- Copy Applications in similar locations [If migrate to another server using Solaris 10]
7- If you will change any Application paths or database path consider changing context file and rerun autoconfig

    Hi,
I have been looking for updated installation guides for Solaris 10 / Oracle 10 on service.sap.com/erp-inst and other locations, but I can only find relevant documentation from February 2005. Does any one know where I can get more updated information?
